Very nicely done and I thank you. I just purchased a 43 year old Airens Sno Thro with a 5 hp Tecumseh. I have the carb parts coming and while I wait I can verify the points. I've messed with the easy parts but I haven't been inside the points area. I didn't really know what to expect. Now I'm not nervous at all. Let the fun begin! Thanks again.
Thank you for this series of fixing these old Tecumseh engines. I bought an old Sears Roto spader tiller, and was looking for some info on the coil, and now I know it also uses points. I'm not getting any spark from it, and will check what you have shown in your videos to figure it out. I couldn't even find out what spark plug to buy for it(it didn't have one in it when I bought it) I will pick up a couple of the Champion J8C sparkplugs, check the points, and see if I can get my rototiller to run. 👍🏽😁
Great videos, best on the web. I have borrowed a tiller with a Tecumseh HS50 67062A 4141B engine that has a key that seems way too thin for the flywheel/crankshaft keyway. There are many websites that sell keys ("Gold," "Silver" and "Black," as well as "assorted"), but I can't correlate my engine to a key part number. Any help? Many thanks, and all the best!
can you possibly show a video on how to properly set the gap between the magneto coil "iron bar" to the inner rings, or magnets, on the flywheel? or is there no specific phase as its just trial and error...
Don, is there a way to know if an engine has points w/o taking the flywheel off? Some kind of visual indicator from the exterior of the motor. I've got an '86 Tecumseh 8hp. off a snowblower. Thanks.
I have a Tec8HP (Ariens ST824) that one day I had no spark....I'm pretty sure the on/off switch is ok, but when cranked with starter the plug has no spark....Question> would you suspect a bad condenser or perhaps the coil? (it ran good a week ago!)
I got a 1973 Tri-Sport trike with a 73 8 horsepower Tecumseh four cycle I put new points coil and condenser in it and I can't get it to spark what should I do
Be nice to have an engine stand for Horizontal and Vertical shaft engines.. At one time you could by them, I took a basic small engine class and they had some really kewl engine stands. I am thinking about making one and if I do I will send all of you a link on thiis page by Dony. Have a good day folks. Happy small engine fixing. I just love it.
Is it possible for flywheel magnets to be too weak to start the engine. I put a socket within 1/2 inch of the flywheel and feel nothing. A screw driver right next to the magnets is a little loosely held. I haven't used the engine in 10 years. It is 40 years old. A tecumseh 4.5 hp engine. I replaced the coil , the points and condenser ten years ago and it ran, but now there is no or little spark. I have a meter to test condensers. I may do that next. I don't see anyway of timing the engine. There are no screws to loosen to rotate the coil. I am also going to check to be sure the grounds and wires aren't corroded.
hi, can u make a video on how to reapair or set an ignitiom if you hav no sparkm plz!!!! i really need help, my plug is brand new HAD spark and i tore down the motor and i think i may hav set the igniyion wrong, plz help!!
Nice vid. again, you get the camera right where it needs to be, that motor is older than you. I plan to watch all your videos... Think I will live long enough? So, I didn't see a reply to "why do you prefer J8C spark plugs over RJ17/19 LM. Is it cause they are not resister type. We need to know. You are becoming an Icon to us like some rock stars are to teenager. But we aren't interested in what brand of clothes you wear. Rather, we need to know what kind of chainsaw you use:))

nice work, i watch all three and like them all. my mower is acting up and needed to get it running right away. thanks for sharing
Hey I really admire u, u know so much about engines.
You're the best man! Great job on the videos. I also used your carb vids and had great sucess. Thank you.
EXCELLENT SET OF VIDEOS -- JUST WHAT I NEEDED --THANKS SO MUCH. WONDERFUL STEADY CAMARA WORK. KEEP THE VIDS COMING. RGC 2017

Curious...why do you prefer using the Champion J8C over the RJ17/19LM for the older Tecumseh engines?
That engine belongs on my Heald Super Bronc VT8!

you're welcome mark
@Provic90594 thank you sir!

sometimes just sanding the points with 600 grit emery paper works, could also be coil

on the older tecumsehs with points , yes the 2 little magnets can become too weak

Just wondering, how much can you sell this engine for you think. Thx
why didn't you reset the coil gap?? How do you know if the timing right

lol, j8c was mostly used when points and condensers were still on those engines
donyboy73 Yes, those resister plugs weren't invented back then. I remember when the neighbor cleared his driveway of snow it was picked up by our TV.
@fredbrill1 side cover gasket
what brand of ractchet is that
What muffler is that?
good engine for a gokart
probably $150
Did not show how to set the timing on a ariens snow blower that what I asked for
