I'm so glad the game will continue on through the fan game, it's a very bittersweet feeling. It hurts knowing the game and movies i've grown up with will come to an end, it took me a week to convince my mom to get a month long membership shortly after it came out lol. I turned 19 in may, this franchise was, like many people my age, my childhood. I still remember that unforgettable experience of playing with the little toothless figure on my cup as I watched the first movie in the theater. I fell in love with this franchise because I loved dragons. My love of dragon has always been apart of me and so will the memories of every movie, tv show, and game. As long as we remember it, it will never truly die, cheesy I know, but How To Train Your Dragons will always be apart of me, and, just like that little girl who was in awe of the movie I was watching so many years ago, I will forever love this franchise and it will always have a place in my heart.

The game is called Dragons of Berk and yeah it will need at least a year of development but the devs have enough funds to make the servers run for approximately 3 and a half years.

I grew up watching these movies as well and can't tell you how many tears I shed in the theaters watching the last movie and then only to have my heart smashed by the shutting down of School of Dragons. I'm a fully grown adult now and I never once lost interest in this amazing world so I have to disagree in that regard

Simply put, the games and movies themselves may come to an end, but our experiences and memories of them will still be around to fill us with nostalgia and joy as we reminisce on simpler times. Maybe one day we will have another game to fill SoD’s shoes, but if not, I’m happy with the time I got to enjoy the game despite its issues

The Httyd franchise is a franchise that ill never stop loving because i remember watching as a kid in my living room eating my mcdonalds happy meal and getting a toothless toy. It truly grew on me and i became a growing fan as time went on.
"The decision of making the story end instead of milking it to death." Yeah, the main story might be over, but the dreaded live action remake they're making and the horrible show that is The Nine Realms makes me feel like they're still milking it anyway. AND Homecoming. That retconing mess was just the start of it, imo.
Ironically enogh, I haven't seen neither Homecoming nor The Nine Realms and I'm not even bothered to watch them because to me it finished with the end of The Hidden World.

As far as I know, at the end of HTTYD 3, the kids are 3 and 5 years old while in Homecoming they're 5 and 8 years old. And the one scene that I've heard of the most was when Zephyr actually meets Toothless and they have a friendly encounter, yet at the end of the third movie, Zephyr is scared of Toothless and doesn't seem to recognize him. Toothless, which supposedly visited New Berk in the last Snoggletog and didn't stay in the hidden world for a decade or so according to Homecoming, doesn't recognize Hiccup or Zephyr, even though he saw them fairly recently. So, as someone who reads Warrior Cats, I'm well acquainted with retcons and promptly dislike them, that's why I don't count Homecoming as canon. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk? I remember growing up with this franchise waiting for the movies to become available in the local library. Just to Place a order so I got to watch it for a week before having to take it back. Watching the Tv series finish school early just to race home to watch it. Fun times.
this is really what i was hoping would happen to sod after i heard it would be shut down. something similar actually happened with alicia online, the game was shut down in 2014 and a small team of original players picked it up and remade it not long after, since many people missed the game. its entirely f2p now and still regularly updated. i really hope the same happens to school of dragons, i really enjoyed playing it and it was a pretty big part of my childhood. the news of the game being shut down actually made me quite sad, despite not having played in a long time :(

I remember when my grandpa gave me the 2nd and 3rd one because I was 1 when the first movie came out but I loved it so much as a kid and I will miss all my dragons and I hope the fan made one will be as good as the main or even better I love dragons so much but our world isn’t ready for them not yet And yes it did quote what hiccup said when all the dragons left
Visited the server and sat in on a dev Q&A stream. All in all, the team is very optimistic and has big plans…with very little to back it up in every way. There’s a lack of organization among the team and a glaring lack of maturity, which could mean that the project is doomed to self-sabotage. As nice an idea as the fan game is, I doubt it will come to fruition with the current state of things. It may be worth keeping an eye on, but I wouldn’t get your hopes too high.
Thanks for sharing your perspective, I agree that we must be critical of how the devs are acting although the process is only at the initial stage yet so its natural that things are a bit messy because they are getting started.
Our Dragons have to go to the hidden world they will be ok. Even though we miss them they will be ok. But I will miss my first dragon shadow the most but he will take care of the rest of my Dragons.
I am so glad that someone took the initiative to kind of continue this amazing game, since I found out SoD is ending I have been looking everywhere for a game to play so that I could still see my dragons. Is there a name for this game being developed yet?

Last movie messed up the characters and the moral doesn’t make sense. In the original books they left because they where slaves for vikings and Hiccup finally gave them their freedom. The Hidden World they leave because what? They give up after all they’ve worked for? The fight in the second movie was even more devastating! Stoick died, Berk was destroyed, and they had to fight a Dragon Hunter army AND a giant dragon. This movie was like a casual Dragon Hunter fight from a spin off series (Race to the Edge). Everyone leaves because “Poor Toothless can’t fly on his own because of evil Hiccup and they can’t keep running! 😡” The characters are so out of character, dumb, weird, and pretty mean especially forwards Hiccup. Instead of agreeing that Hiccup is to controlling for the whole movie I was like “Wow his friends are jerks, I wonder how he corrects them and shows that he isn’t controlling over his best friend and how Toothless doesn’t believe he’s under control.” And they’re right?! They even contemplated a scene where Hiccup steps on Toothless and yells at him that he’s his alpha! That’s NOT at ALL what the characters are. They based HTTYD:THW COMPLETELY off the books and forgot everything about the original characters. So yeah, I guess the end of SoD is also the same. Company gave up on the franchise and good working people for profit and because of bad management (the company Jumpstart is going to be delisted and won’t exist anymore), remove the beloved game, and uh yeah sure, the dragons leave. Also, they have milked it to death! 😂 The Nine Realms, Homecoming, The Live Action (which is going to go the woke money route because that’s just how you make money easy now). I’ve heard of the fan game and I hope it doesn’t get taken down, thank you for the information. It’s still sad to see such talented people and such a interesting game disappear.
Last movie was grate, they had to leave the dragons because toothless wanted to live in the hidden world with the light fury and all the other dragons, and if u think u will understeand that all the dragons from the hidden world cant fit in their island. Also "Homecoming" wasnt bad, idk why u mentioned it.

Would he rather live in a world he’s always known with his friends and the Light Fury because they defeated the most powerful hunters in the world and will do it again, or leave for a pretty lady he’s known for 2 days in a world he’s never known and abandon all his friends. Homecoming was fine but still a cash grab, also the director and writer of the movie said Toothless completely forgot about Hiccup, so have fun with that.

Highly disagree that this was never meant for adults, and that the fans who became adults don't still like this beautiful franchise. I do agree that it's a good thing that the movies ended though, cause I'd hate to see something so beautiful be over-milked
That's fair, I think the franchise isn't meant primarily for adults but like other great stories it holds important lessons relevant to kids growing up and parents trying to help them at it.

I don't know honestly because I'm not working on the game myself. There is a Q&A section in the discord page (link in the description of this video). I heared the developers say that the game might come for mobile but not on Steam because it is a fan game.
Ngl, the last film was bad. And the first film is watchable as for kids and adults alike. I still regard the first film as the best one, because it was the most mature out of three, even tho the character was the youngest.

Im not sure if they closed it or not but I believe it was a section named viking-data although even if you do that it's not actually the viking data as it does not consist of the script/code of your account data so its basically useless :')
I remember that to access viking data to submit your screenshots you had to first verify your account in the server and it was a very quick thing to do. There is a verify section if I'm not wrong.
I am afraid that discord links expire once a week but you can correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not entirely familiar with how discord works. Also I can't update the link because I am travelling through Europe without my working computer that has access to discord. I think the only thing you can do at this point is wait for the fan-game to release and get the same dragon species and give them the same names and colours of the dragons you had in SoD.

I just hope that this newer version these people will be making will be awesome. and while I hope for it to be for free like School of Dragons, I wouldn't mind if I had to pay a little money to support them to buy it. While I have grown up on HTTYD, I'm never going to let it go since dragons are awesome. I'm not sure when the game will close today, but I've said my goodbyes to my dragons, as they will be set free, like the movies, and go live in the hidden world where they will hopefully never be harmed.

According to one of the developers that I chatted with in game, said that they were going to make another game that was a sequel named Project Edge.

I remember growing up with this franchise waiting for the movies to become available in the local library. Just to Place a order so I got to watch it for a week before having to take it back. Watching the Tv series finish school early just to race home to watch it. Fun times.
this is really what i was hoping would happen to sod after i heard it would be shut down. something similar actually happened with alicia online, the game was shut down in 2014 and a small team of original players picked it up and remade it not long after, since many people missed the game. its entirely f2p now and still regularly updated. i really hope the same happens to school of dragons, i really enjoyed playing it and it was a pretty big part of my childhood. the news of the game being shut down actually made me quite sad, despite not having played in a long time :(

I remember when my grandpa gave me the 2nd and 3rd one because I was 1 when the first movie came out but I loved it so much as a kid and I will miss all my dragons and I hope the fan made one will be as good as the main or even better I love dragons so much but our world isn’t ready for them not yet

Visited the server and sat in on a dev Q&A stream. All in all, the team is very optimistic and has big plans…with very little to back it up in every way. There’s a lack of organization among the team and a glaring lack of maturity, which could mean that the project is doomed to self-sabotage. As nice an idea as the fan game is, I doubt it will come to fruition with the current state of things. It may be worth keeping an eye on, but I wouldn’t get your hopes too high.
Thanks for sharing your perspective, I agree that we must be critical of how the devs are acting although the process is only at the initial stage yet so its natural that things are a bit messy because they are getting started.

Our Dragons have to go to the hidden world they will be ok. Even though we miss them they will be ok. But I will miss my first dragon shadow the most but he will take care of the rest of my Dragons.
I am so glad that someone took the initiative to kind of continue this amazing game, since I found out SoD is ending I have been looking everywhere for a game to play so that I could still see my dragons. Is there a name for this game being developed yet?

@@chrissy_the_httyd_lover That's a very specific one, I heared the devs say that most dragons from SoD will make it to the fan-game so I think it should be alright.

As much as I hated to admit it when I first heard about the game sunsetting, when you put it the way you did, you're right about them choosing this as the best time for letting the franchise end and not trying to keep it on atrificial life-support. When I first watched how to train your dragon I instantly wanted show my sister's and we rolplayed alot it was and still is my childhood
I'll always have a dragon in my little body and maybe one day suggest this magnificent movie to some young ones in the future
Last movie messed up the characters and the moral doesn’t make sense. In the original books they left because they where slaves for vikings and Hiccup finally gave them their freedom. The Hidden World they leave because what? They give up after all they’ve worked for? The fight in the second movie was even more devastating! Stoick died, Berk was destroyed, and they had to fight a Dragon Hunter army AND a giant dragon. This movie was like a casual Dragon Hunter fight from a spin off series (Race to the Edge). Everyone leaves because “Poor Toothless can’t fly on his own because of evil Hiccup and they can’t keep running! 😡” The characters are so out of character, dumb, weird, and pretty mean especially forwards Hiccup. Instead of agreeing that Hiccup is to controlling for the whole movie I was like “Wow his friends are jerks, I wonder how he corrects them and shows that he isn’t controlling over his best friend and how Toothless doesn’t believe he’s under control.” And they’re right?! They even contemplated a scene where Hiccup steps on Toothless and yells at him that he’s his alpha! That’s NOT at ALL what the characters are. They based HTTYD:THW COMPLETELY off the books and forgot everything about the original characters. So yeah, I guess the end of SoD is also the same. Company gave up on the franchise and good working people for profit and because of bad management (the company Jumpstart is going to be delisted and won’t exist anymore), remove the beloved game, and uh yeah sure, the dragons leave.
Also, they have milked it to death! 😂 The Nine Realms, Homecoming, The Live Action (which is going to go the woke money route because that’s just how you make money easy now). I’ve heard of the fan game and I hope it doesn’t get taken down, thank you for the information. It’s still sad to see such talented people and such a interesting game disappear.
Last movie was grate, they had to leave the dragons because toothless wanted to live in the hidden world with the light fury and all the other dragons, and if u think u will understeand that all the dragons from the hidden world cant fit in their island. Also "Homecoming" wasnt bad, idk why u mentioned it.

Would he rather live in a world he’s always known with his friends and the Light Fury because they defeated the most powerful hunters in the world and will do it again, or leave for a pretty lady he’s known for 2 days in a world he’s never known and abandon all his friends. Homecoming was fine but still a cash grab, also the director and writer of the movie said Toothless completely forgot about Hiccup, so have fun with that.

Man...like... I've spend with this game whole 9 years. Always dreamed about making some SOD content after end of my studies (Wich is in 2 years) and now...I've spend whole week playing in this game, recording every DLC, my fav dragons and every location to have something more then just memorises that might be a bit foggy in future. Tho it's a really good news that there is a fan base who want make this game again and bring dragon lovers more fun 👌

Highly disagree that this was never meant for adults, and that the fans who became adults don't still like this beautiful franchise. I do agree that it's a good thing that the movies ended though, cause I'd hate to see something so beautiful be over-milked
That's fair, I think the franchise isn't meant primarily for adults but like other great stories it holds important lessons relevant to kids growing up and parents trying to help them at it.

Ngl, the last film was bad. And the first film is watchable as for kids and adults alike. I still regard the first film as the best one, because it was the most mature out of three, even tho the character was the youngest.
Yeah that's a fair assessment, although I wouldn't go as far as considering the third film bad. I'd say it's good just not great while the first two are S tier films.

The new discord link should be working now. As for the date of release I am not able to say because I am not part of the developer team for that game.
In the meantime, School of Dragons is already available to play in the form of private servers, there are lots of videos on TH-cam that cover that topic.

Im not sure if they closed it or not but I believe it was a section named viking-data although even if you do that it's not actually the viking data as it does not consist of the script/code of your account data so its basically useless :')
I remember that to access viking data to submit your screenshots you had to first verify your account in the server and it was a very quick thing to do. There is a verify section if I'm not wrong.

Yes, the fan-game will be free due to copyright laws from DreamWorks.
I just hope that this newer version these people will be making will be awesome. and while I hope for it to be for free like School of Dragons, I wouldn't mind if I had to pay a little money to support them to buy it. While I have grown up on HTTYD, I'm never going to let it go since dragons are awesome.
I'm not sure when the game will close today, but I've said my goodbyes to my dragons, as they will be set free, like the movies, and go live in the hidden world where they will hopefully never be harmed.
