Something you didn’t catch - Astrid wears a “headband” (can’t remember the correct name for it) throughout the three films. This headband in Viking culture symbolized a girls virginity, to be passed down after she marries. Her daughter is then wearing that headband in the final scene where her children are shown. SO much attention to detail!
You're not wrong. Remember the first movie when Hiccup first started learning about dragons? Dragon Nip Scratching around the neck the chin Like to chase light Their diet of fish Aside from appearances, the dragons are pretty much giant, flying, fire-breathing cats.
@@Pyrodragon3993 Fire breathing cats with a bit of dog and bird mixed in... Also based on how the dragons are able to feel complex emotions that reptiles aren't really capable of feeling because of the design of their brains, dragon brains would have to be completely different from any reptiles we know of so would dragons be their own class of animal? (I don't really know crap about science so maybe take that thought with a grain of salt)
@@ThatLEGOBoi Well considering how diverse they are in terms of well... everything, and that they have can traits of mammalia, amphibia, avian, fish, and even arthropoda. Not to mention harnessing the natural phenomena of nature, they could have quite a unique draconian phylogenetic tree.
Well remebering watching the first movie on tv they shared some facts about the movie, one of which was dragons(specially toothless) were given traits of many animals including dogs, horse and most importantly cats. When he is all happy and cheering he can somehow behave similar to dog in very cheerful way. But other than that everything he does is very similar to cats, specially his appearance and face so similar to a cat which makes him so much lovable as cats are.
I realy like and hate it at the same time just like with stoiks death after he says he thought he must die to see valka again, i mean these things fits perfect in the movie but there also realy sad. Those are things you know must be there to give the story just the perfect details and ending
@@Dan.Shields im going into semantics here, but hes like dark hiccup. I think drago was the anti hiccup, because he was opposite in both ideals and method. whereas grimmel had opposite ideals but similar methods.
2 major things I remember about this movie: 1: Sand animation 2: I didn't get to clearly see the last scene of the movie because of how much I genuinely cried from this movie.
Dude yes! I feel like a boy who lost in awestruck after watched it the second time! (it's supposed to be a 1:44 minutes film, but I didn't realize the amount of pausing and rewinding scenes that I did could be caused for almost three hours)
Httyd 1: fight against dragons Httyd 2: fight with dragons Httyd 3: fight for dragons Best trilogy of my entire childhood will never forget this series...
@@sokka780 damn 6 months ago was when I commented that, I was literally so obsessed over how to train your dragon. Now my obsession is Star war’s but I love httyd
"There *were* dragons, when I was a boy." When I first watched this, I actually felt my heart drop. That one line finally made me realize that this was it.. this was the last How to Train Your Dragon movie and there would most likely not be a series after this. The journey was finally over and I didn't know I wasn't ready for the end.
Miasimon There still could be, though. The Hidden World was the end of the saga, sure, but dragons had been around long before Hiccup and Toothless came about, and were no doubt in far off, distant places. So, that still leaves a lot of room for prequels and/or parallel side stories that take place in other parts of the world.
The franchise is not over yet. It has been confirmed that there will be spinoffs but probably with a new title and new characters. The original characters from this trilogy Hicstrid, toothless, snotlout and the rest of the riders and their dragons etc. Will be side characters or cameos like how stoic was in the race to the edge where he only had a few episodes of screentime
Is no one really gonna talk about Hiccup and Astrid? They are the epitome of a healthy relationship. They're realistic (most relationship starts with a crush) and not your cliche love at first sight couple They're a modern couple that we all can relate to They're both equals and no one is controlling the other They push each other to be better individuals They don't let their relationship get in the way of important things (ie. Work, friends, family, Toothless) They're one of the rare instances of an animated couple having a complete development arc. (Oh my god Hiccstrid babies!!) And I really appreciate how Astrid wasn't made into a "just the main character's girlfriend" like some movies. THW really shows how intimate and loving their relationship is. Astrid is Hiccup's voice of reason and his number one supporter. He depends on her just like how she depends on him. When the villagers protested against him, she had his back. When he was lost without Toothless, she pulled him back and made him realise his true worthiness. She understood him and knew his flaws and insecurities, but remained loyal by his side. Their relationship wasn't just pure romance,it was mutual partnership filled with love and understanding. Heck, they only kissed properly in the third movie during their wedding. And don't get me started on the relationship advices I learned from these two
Why aren't more people talking about this!!! YES! I ship them and kinda look up to them for a better relationship and to know it's okay to ease off of one another and let each other do your own thing! That and WORK TOGETHER! Thank you for talking about it :) :) :)
They're also great because, in a lot of movies with sequels where the "main couple" gets together at the end of the film, the next movie will start with their relationship on the ropes (either that, or they broke up off-screen between movies for reasons that may or may not be explained) in order to try and re-enact their "love story" because the couple being in a stable, long-term relationship apparently diminishes their entertainment value as a potential B-Plot. Then in movies where they don't do that, there's usually some sort of difference of opinion that pits the couple at odds enough to either result in an impermanent break-up (they'll be back together by the end of the film) or at the very least some heavy cold shoulder-ing. The thing that's great about Hiccup and Astrid is that, even when they don't agree on something, they still respect one another and their opinion and go to lengths to talk it through. There's never a moment where they're yelling or demeaning the other - just pure respect and a genuine desire to hear the other out and see their point of view. It's honestly one of the best, most healthy relationships I've ever seen of a couple through multiple films in a franchise, and it makes me really happy to see it in a movie that's catered to a younger audience.
What I thought was amazing was how Grimmel is literally a version of Hiccup if he had given into the urge of killing Toothless in the first movie. I think Grimmel mentions it in the movie himself that he was scrawny unlike most vikings and realized his destiny after his first kill, which was a nightfury. He also depends on building things instead of physical strength much like Hiccup. He literally IS Hiccup. Hiccup isn't facing a crazy psychopath when he first confronts Grimmel in his hut, he is looking at an alternate version of himself. That's why I think he was such a poetically perfect villain for the final movie.
Dont forget to show them the mini movies, the DreamWorks dragons series and race to the edge series and homecoming mini film, they add so many beautiful little nuances to the films and add to the story and just never fail to make me smile, plus who wudnt want more dragons content :)
@Madeline James Yeah, the Christmas one actually had a reference in this movie. It was the scene of Hiccup making the tail for Toothless and when Astrid saw it, she said that last time Hiccup made this tail, Toothless didn’t want it. That pointed out that at the end of the Christmas one Toothless deliberately destroyed the tail because he preferred Hiccup guiding him.
Agreed! It was the first time it was only me and my dad going out to see a movie together without my mom when the first one came out. My dad rarely took me anywnere, so honestly it was a special moment for me. And my mom adores these movies so we watch them together all the time.
Light fury doesnt have a name because she represents the wild and free nature of dragons. The fact that she was never tamed and named by the Vikings reflects the ending of the movie when they free their dragons. I liked the symbolism of her not having a name. And since the moment Hiccup made toothless a new tail, he didnt have riding saddle on him for the rest of the movie. Again it reflected the end of the moving and the freeing of the dragons
That's so true, but also the name he gave her in the video was so good "Liry" it sounds beautiful and is just a combined and shortened version of "Light Fury"
9:37 I love love LOVE that Toothless is a little awkward taking off. He's had Hiccup helping him fly for over a year at this point, so he'd be a little out of practice, not to mention that he can't feel the new prosthetic tail like he could his natural tail. So he's a little clunky and has to flap his wings a lot at first, but then it comes back to him easily since he's been flying for most of his life. Tiny little details like that make the HTTYD films so great.
One very cool fact that I assume to be intentional is how the endings are at different times in the day in each movie HTTYD 1 ended in the morning, claiming it’s the start HTTYD 2 ended at midday, which is the middle of the series HTTYD 3 ended with the sun setting, which claims it to be the end of a trilogy
I like how when they enter the hidden world, despite the fact that Astrid and hiccups armor is made of dragon scales it still doest glow foreshadowing how humans don't belong there
Wait...you didn’t comment on the part where Toothless and “Liry” are on the beach and Toothless draws a picture of her? To catch her attention? Exactly the same way Hiccup caught his attention at the beginning of their relationship? Does this not signify that Toothless is using a piece of his own history to tell Liry he wants to build a relationship with her? ...The drawing was such a deep scene, why not include it?
I wish you talked about the development of Astrid and Hiccups relationship. The way they have handled their specific relationship is one of my favorite realistic ones I have seen in films.
14:17 That moment when Liry is looking down at hiccup smiling is like in the end of the first movie when Hiccup and Toothless saved Astrid from falling.
I love the callback to "Gift of the Night Fury" when Astrid says that Hiccup tried giving Toothless a tailfin that he could use to fly solo before because it ties in all of the other things that don't exist in the cinematic part of this universe, proving that they are in fact canon
Also, when Hiccup says, "Yeah, we've dealt with his kind before." when Eret is taking about Grimmel, I believe he's referring to Viggo Grimborn from Race To The Edge, who was a brilliant antagonist.
@@KittyWrangler-bf9ci He definitely is. Especially because hiccup still wants to change his mind even after the second movie. I actually think Viggos character arc may play a major role in why hiccup was over trusting of even the most ruthless adversaries in the second and third movies.
@@KittyWrangler-bf9ciI loved Race to the Edge, and I loved Viggo’s first few episodes. I mean he played every rider, with EASE, I just don’t like that after that he was kinda dumbed down. Also I’m sad that all of the allies made in that show have no mention in the movies, especially this one.
When I saw the trailers, I just started laughing. My family thought it was funny too, but they didn't understand when I said "That's what birds do!" So, I had to show them videos of New Guinea's birds. After that, we all laughed every time we saw the trailer.
But who would voice Toothless’ inner monologue? It’d have to be someone whose voice can be smooth, clear, and just deep enough with a little rumble of gravel under it.
Toothless instantly recognizing Hiccup after smelling him should be another win. Just like dogs who are hesitant at first after seeing their owners again after a long separation, something about the scent of their person triggers something in their long term memory and they’re like “You’re back!!!! I’m so so so so happy you’re back!!!!”
Fun fact: a group of dragons is referred to as a “thunder” because the sound of multiple dragons flying overhead would be similar to the sound of continuous thunderclaps due to the sound of their wings
@@dromeothemonternoraptor7537 Aren't the movies and series two seperate stories though? There's no dragon's edge in the movies and a lot more dragons and dragon riders in the movies on Berk
"He's not going to eat *your father."* Just the way America Ferrera delivers the line is hysterical, as if Astrid *really did believe Hiccup was going to get eaten by his own dragon in front of their children.*
Something I noticed during the movie is that Hiccup and Toothless's eyes are green, while Astrid and the Light Fury's eyes are blue. Also I love how Toothless and the Light Fury's children are called Night Lights.
In addition to the eyes, Hiccup has darker hair like Toothless has black scales while Astrid has lighter hair like the Light Fury has white scales. So the main couples are a dark haired/scaled guy with green eyes and a light haired/scaled girl with blue eyes. I love that the dragon main couple is a reflection of the human main couple.
i usually hate epilogues that show characters like 10+ years into the future but this is one of the few that I actually think did a great job of bringing the story to a close while still maintaining a sense of inspiration and optimism
One thing I don't think I've seen anyone mention is the tiny, blink and you'll miss it detail at 9:33. There's a small scar above Toothless's shoulder where Drago used his spear to pin him down in the last movie
The lightfuries are actually a different breed, you could say, so yes there’s a difference between them, like the differences between a German Shepherd and a Huskey. They can breed, but they’re different.
I was so sad when the trilogy officially ended bc I literally grew up w this movie. I was 7 the first time I saw the first one in theatre, I was 11 when we bought the second one and then I watched the newest one for my 16th birthday. It was so emotional watching a part of my childhood end, it was kinda signifying the end of mine in a way which was partially heartbreaking.
Taylor Winterling couldn’t agree more. Our generation practically grew up with these movies... we aged with Hiccup, making it that much more significant to us
@@wilverine5557 100% on the mark. I can see myself in Hiccup, going from an outcast to a leader. I honestly had a 2 hour convo with my girlfriend the other night about how our relationship dynamic is literally Astrid and Hiccup's. And especially the saying goodbye aspect and how hard it is, given the fact that I graduated High School during COVID and didn't really get that chance. I really do hope that sometime in the future they do bring back a spinoff or something, similar to Homecoming, because there's so much more potential with these characters and this franchise
Aye, this movie came out 2019, so I was 19 then. I in a way felt like I was growing up with the characters, they became adults around a similar age to me. In a way, this third movie kinda felt like childhood's end for me. I read the book series this was based off of, and while I would change some parts I wouldn't change the end even though I knew even before I saw the movie it was gonna end that way. They took some aspects from the first book to begin the series, and took some aspects from the last few books for the end. It's sad and I feel like there won't be movies that click like this, but that's ok I think.
same I never thought I could get so emotional about a show ending I cried more than I ever had before and I literally never cry especially over a kids show at the age of 16, my hero is literally toothless
I was also 7 years old when I saw the first one in theaters, and 11 when I saw the second one, I'm 18 now and I just watched the final one, this series really has been with a lot of us through our childhoods
I loved Astrid's "that's a king" line because it doesn't just apply to Toothless. Hiccup is constantly doing what's best for the people of Berk and in this movie he does what's best for the dragons of Berk as well. He gives up, as you said, one of the loves of his life, to keep Toothless and the other dragons safe. And that's what a good king does.
When Hiccups kids had their hands out, Toothless has a slight pause like in the first movie. If you don’t know, that pause in the first movie was a animation error that worked in its favour. Dreamworks saw that and used it again.
@@bpyrotroph3670 they said in an interview they were particularly proud with how they captured the hesitation like that. so calling that scene an animation error seems disrespectful to me.
@@krisz20000 the only animation error i recall them talking about was the scene where hiccup first meets toothless, toothless' eyes were closed before the camera pans over the wings when they were supposed to be open.. but they decided to keep them closed for impact. the rest were all intentional.
Thinking about what Stoick says about love and loss in Hiccup’s flashback... Does anyone else feel like that was the creators saying something to the audience? Like, “We’re sad that it’s over now, but it’s worth it because we had such a great experience.”? If that’s the case, than bravo Dreamworks!!
Wait, people actually didn't like Light Fury's design?! But like Toothless, she's so fucking cute like every Night Fury, especially the baby Night Furies!!!!
Can we also appreciate the final fight and the scene with Hiccup and Grimmel falling. How bit by bit Hiccup lets go(Inferno) and loses creations that exist only because he met and befriended Toothless? Which seems to add more to the goodbye being the inverse of how they met,
For me, it drove home the fact Toothless is the last of his kind and how alone that made him. All the other species have exemplars to learn from to use their talents, to court, etc... Hiccup and he became so close specifically because he had no one to truly bond with among his kind. He never had a friend till then. Add to that, he had been oppressed by a terrifying Alpha (The Red Death) One could say he didn't ever know how to be a complete dragon until he met Hiccup, Valka, and "Liry". Each one completed a piece for him and when he was finally whole, he could take his place as an adult and start a family. (I kinda, might have, screamed with joy when I saw the wee furies)
Also, I love how they agree to marry each other when the dragons leave. They just look at each other and nod, with no context whatsoever Also also, pupils. They use to represent how tamed/wild an animal is. Through the three films. When the alpha took control of 5e dragons in two, their pupils thinned a lot. Liry’s pupils are thinner than toothless’s, and in the end scene, toothless has thin pupils, meaning he is wild again, until he recognizes hiccup, and they turn wide, as he regains his “tamed” part
I think you missed something in that scene where Hiccup and Grimmel are falling that I think is pretty damn neat and symbolic. Hiccup and Grimmel, both so similar yet so different, are falling to their deaths. (One because of Self Sacrifice, the other by force) And as they fight while falling in slow motion, you see Grimmel tearing off Hiccup's wings, before the Liry comes in to save him, while Grimmel dies. I thought that was a beautiful moment of symbolism. Even if Grimmel lost, he managed to hurt them all enough to take his wings (Toothless) away from him. To force Hiccup to tell the dragons to go into hiding. I got teary eyed when watching that scene and realising what it really meant.
and something else worth pointing out about that scene is that hiccup had come to terms with his fate and wasn't trying to fight Grimmel as he was tearing off the wings and as they both fell to their fate but if Grimmel had not tried to rip off hiccup's already broken wings, then he would not have drifted away out of the reach of hiccup as he is saved.
The Whisperer of Death Another symbolic piece: Grimmel is the Hiccup that Hiccup didn’t become. He decided to draw blood, and became fixated with the sensation of being accepted for it. Hiccup decided to show mercy, and helped unite Berk and dragons. They are the same, separated by only one choice in their lives, one choice that caused identical lives to diverge in pathing greatly.
HTTYD is the best film with many aspects. 1.Bonding of a son and dad. 2. Friendship of a lifetime. 3. Best romantic animated movie. 4. Best team work. 5. Best plot. 6. Best Graphics. 7. Best textures and effects. What else do u need!!!!
@Shabaka Smkss I kinda want to see hiccup's and Astrid's kids teaming up with Heather/fishlegs, ruffnut/snotlout, and dagur/ that blonde woman from rtte kids. I think it'd be pretty interesting.
@Shabaka Smkss The director has stated that there won't be any sequals, cause they don't want one of those messes that has been made several other times when people were re-creating a trilogy.
I like how Liry subverts the expectations of "small woman weak must be protected by big strong man" that society has come to expect, instead she seems to be actively trying to protect both herself and Toothless at all times. Also, on the subject of her design, a lot of people brought up that her being white wouldn't help her camouflage as a nocturnal species, but in the hidden world everything glows so being white and sparkly would help you camouflage because it would be easier to reflect all of that glowing light making yourself harder to see. Okay I'm done now.
@@TSkillessB even more interesting. If you look closely at the other light furies in the hidden world, they all look like her. The only difference is some are bigger and some are smaller. They all have the same chest shape and tail shape. There's really nothing that different that could tell you the sexes. So people getting mad that she's too feminine is kind of ridiculous
“There were dragons when I was a boy” comes from the book which at this point is almost a completely different series from the movies so to bring that back was brave and connects us to both endings (both of which were heartbreaking)
Fun fact: during the movie when Hiccup is making the "new" tail Asrid asked "didint he have one of there before?" and hiccup even said "yes" (something around those lines) this was a reff to the FIRST HTTYD x-mas movie How to train your dragon- Gift of the nightfury- but now that he meets the lightfury this kinda re enact something that was a main point if HTTYD race to the edge: the episode where hookfang challenges a titan wing nightmare to protect a female he cares for but in the end hookfang came back to his rider. so kinda also explained why toothless didint freak out when he opened his tail and the new one mimicked, he has had this tail before but just not this upgraded! i love how they add in those tiny snip hints of past things like GotN and even some scars from fights (if ya dont know: toothless has a few scars over his body at at around 9:33 we can see a scar around his wing joint) (im sorry i have loved httyd and been with it from its first trailer drop! XD)
You could literally just play from “When I was a boy, there were dragons” all the way to the end. That whole section was about as perfect as it could get
HTTYD 1: Best in terms of simpleness and bonding. HTTYD 2: Best in terms of World building and action. HTTYD 3: Best in terms of emotion and nostalgia.
Xperts Reviews Best in their respective series? I can name many better movies than those three. The visuals may be mind blowing but the story is generic, boring and predictable.
HTTYD 1: well executed and written HTTYD 2: best in terms of writting and well executed HTTYD 2: well executed and worst at writting but which is best at execution ? I dunno
7:55 except Liry isnt a Night Fury so she wouldnt look like toothless, its some kinda subspecies or something and we do see more Light Furies later on in the hidden world, its just that Toothless is the last night fury and they wanted to keep that so just invent a new species compatible enough with him and bam, i really respect that theres a subversion to "person who thought they were alone finds a hidden colony of more of them" and rather its brutal and honest that Toothless really is alone and the man whos responsible is coming for him
I mean considering how tense world relations are the the fact the Governments would def capture and experiment on dragons to weaponize them? oh and the fact humans fear anything different from them?... yeah no time soon
There is actually a new TV series coming out from Dreamworks Dragons this December that is set, I believe, 1300 years in the future of the originals -- in other words, modern times. There is speculation the boy is a descendant of Hiccup and the dragon is a descendent of Toothless. It's called Dragons: The Nine Realms.
@@Adjel1 I’ve seen that trailer, but I’m really not sure that I’m going to watch it. It seems more like they’re just milking the series for money by continuing it, instead of letting the series rest and starting something totally different. I’ll give it a look, but I’m not sure how good it will be, especially since the animations don’t seem anywhere near as good as the original HTTYD series.
@@renren981 but Kung fu panda 3 was significantly worse than Kfp 1 and 2. Still a good movie, just when you compare it to 1, or especially 2, it falls short
9:33 *...And more than 8 years later, Toothless still has that scar on his left shoulder from his childhood fight with his lifelong nemesis, the Whispering Death.*
I love how the beginning of each of these movies show the progression between them. The first one starts with dragons attacking berk. The second one starts with Vikings playing a game with the dragons. And the third one starts with Vikings actively saving dragons. Just a cool way to show that Hiccup and the other riders have basically come full circle.
Stickpaw SOS Actually the Night Lights featured may not be the first in existence... Hiccup and family meet them ten years after the film’s events, it could be possible Toothless and Liry had offspring already which were already grown, or at least juveniles... 😃
@@Coal_XVII That may be true for some animals in our world, but we are not entirely sure if that would be the same for dragons. Also, they could just be of the same genus and have the same number of chromosomes. Taking on how closely Toothless and Liry are in body style, abilities, ect the most likely scenario is that they are NOT infertile. Just like with literally all species in the genus Canis (dogs) can interbreed and produce fertile offspring. Though this trait isn't possessed by all genera, like with the genus Felidae. Most Felidae species are actually infertile with each other.
How to Train Your Dragon 3 is one of the greatest animated sequels like its predecessor, but one thing about the film that is beyond phenomenal is the emotionally mature (big understatement) ending. It could even be the greatest part of an amazong franchise that could have stayed its welcome *FAR* more than the film franchises made by Crest Animation Productions and Illumination Entertainment!!!!!
Hopefully they don't come back in 10 years or so and do a HTTYD 4 and ruin the way the first three tied up everything so perfectly like they just did with You Story 4. I loved that they tied it all into a beautiful ending with just enough hope for the future generations of Berk.
Hiccups reaction with the closing of his eyes when soaring with Toothless again will always make me realize how much effort there was to make this movie for real for the viewers. 20:34
all the people with tear ducts who have watched all the dragon movies were crying for that scene, believe me. It made me cry, and I don't cry a lot for movies at all
I wailed like crazy on the inside. On the outside, I barely remained composed. Every move in the trillogy is an emotional bomb waiting to explode. Best trilogy ever.
I love hearing you talk about this movies. You sound genuinely happy to the degree that I feel happy too. I just love how you talk about how good the graphics are. Thank you for making me happy.
On the note of there being more light furys in the hidden world scene, one might think once they noticed their kin(the night furys) dying off quickly and dissapearing, their natural instinct told them to retreat to safety before they were hunted as well(or once they started being hunted for their similaritys)
What is the thumbnail from? (I know what my brain immediately thought it was, even though I know that I'm wrong, so now I'm curious about what the actual answer is.)
Can you fault him tho? This trilogy has brought animation to a new level again and again. The attention to detail that wouldn't be noticed by the many, yet the fact that they did so to make the movies as great as they could make them. They didn't just make a movie for money, they made it as something that would last, something they succeeded in amazingly. Plus, it's a wholesome movie with great storytelling and adorable yet powerful dragons, what's not to love?
@@brycejohnson9627 Agreed. It's very nice to hear someone speak so passionately about animation details. Something that is just... UGH!! SO GOOD!! For God's sake, even the Frozen 2 TRAILER was soooo detailed. Like, trailers are scenes that aren't yet FULLY FINISHED. I'm geeking out for a trailer, I geeked out so hard during the Hidden World. I had to watch a second time just to see every detail as I can, hehehe.
I've never seen a movie series done so perfectly. These three films have changed my life immensely and have led me to pursue music after school, something I've struggled over deciding for a long time. I owe so much to Dean, John Powell, and the author of the original book series.
With the Light Fury being a different species, I’m pretty sure it is. Even Grimmel refers to both of them as ‘furies’ when he talks about the fact that they mate for life.
I grew up watching HTTYD and even the TV series. The hand gesture when they tame their dragons or what not? I’ve incorporated that whenever I say hi to my cats before petting them. It’s just so meaningful to me and they seem to enjoy it. I will never forget this trilogy and I can’t wait to show it to my kids.
Also I just realized another amazing detail after watching the ending for Odin knows how many times. After the 10 or so years that passed before they see each other again, you can see some slight discoloring in the fin that Hiccup replaces showing the amount of time has passed and why it maybe needed some fine tuning.
Also the fact that to the end Light Fury does not let any human ride her or get close to her. She is wild, she is the symbol of the world of dragons and she will not be tamed. Amazing movie, excellet finale to one of the best animated series ever.
I don't undesrtand yet why they decided to add the lines of the book series at the end. Hiccup literally say that people don't know where are all the dragons, but we know that not all the dragons could have gone to The Hidden World, I refer to the dragons which eat other dragons, (please someone explain me this).
@@evaniar6502 They still living in their islands I supposse. Also, I think that most of them have managed to deal with the trappers in a way. Putting things like that, I am going to assume that Toothless started a proyect of take all the dragons to the Hidden World.
13:47 It's like they don't even give a damn about what they're doing and they just can't take their eyes off each other. Romance and comedy packed into a few seconds
I'd argue that there are pieces of older, better written franchises that used different terms for that..... (out of all my personally favourite is Glory of dragons)
I was in the movie theaters as well, the place was packed and everyone said Aaawwwwww when we saw the babies. They are so cute and adorable that it brings tears to my eyes every time I think of that scene
As someone who read the entire book series the ending to 3 was a pleasant surprise. It was the one thing when I watched this movie I thought "they won't do that, they haven't got the guts". The ending in the books is honestly even darker and more bittersweet than the movie ending, but I think that's the point. Hiccup tried and tried to make dragons and humans coexist but in the movies he realised that there will always be people who want to harm dragons and in the books he realises that he can't change the world in a single lifetime. The book ends on the note that the world is far form perfect and that while Hiccup was able to make things better, he nor any one person can do it all, and he leaves it up to the reader to make the world a better place so that the dragons can return. I think the movie gets a bit muddled as it wanted to emulate that ending but also have the whole "next generation" bit with Hiccup's kids. I'm happy they tried to match the end of the books while also putting their own spin on it, it wasn't perfect but it was a great effort and I applaud them for that.

Something you didn’t catch - Astrid wears a “headband” (can’t remember the correct name for it) throughout the three films. Miasimon There still could be, though. The Hidden World was the end of the saga, sure, but dragons had been around long before Hiccup and Toothless came about, and were no doubt in far off, distant places. Is no one really gonna talk about Hiccup and Astrid?
They are the epitome of a healthy relationship.
They're realistic (most relationship starts with a crush) and not your cliche love at first sight couple
They're a modern couple that we all can relate to
They're both equals and no one is controlling the other
They push each other to be better individuals
They don't let their relationship get in the way of important things (ie. Work, friends, family, Toothless)
They're one of the rare instances of an animated couple having a complete development arc. (Oh my god Hiccstrid babies!!)
And I really appreciate how Astrid wasn't made into a "just the main character's girlfriend" like some movies.
And don't get me started on the relationship advices I learned from these two
I’m surprised this doesn’t have more likes...it’s all true
(And Hiccstrid babies are my dream come true!!!)
Why aren't more people talking about this!!! YES! I ship them and kinda look up to them for a better relationship and to know it's okay to ease off of one another and let each other do your own thing! That and WORK TOGETHER! Thank you for talking about it :) :) :)
Really well said. Hiccstrid forever! ❤️❤️❤️
Truee
I loved that too, how he was pretty much what could have happened if things had been different!

I saw the the parallel between them but I fill like the could have executed it much better by giving the Villain a flashback of when he was child

Yeah, the Christmas one actually had a reference in this movie.

I love how when toothless is trying to court the light fury it shows that he forgot a little bit of how to be a dragon in a way and is super awkward
They just look at each other and nod, with no context whatsoever
Also also, pupils.
20:36 That blissful sigh Hiccup has after being able to fly with toothless. He looks like he has returned to his true home.
"xenomorphs, but less cudly" is 100% accurate, 100% hilarious, and 100% unexpected. I lost it
Did you find it though? Lol
I think you missed something in that scene where Hiccup and Grimmel are falling that I think is pretty damn neat and symbolic.
Hiccup and Grimmel, both so similar yet so different, are falling to their deaths. (One because of Self Sacrifice, the other by force)
And as they fight while falling in slow motion, you see Grimmel tearing off Hiccup's wings, before the Liry comes in to save him, while Grimmel dies.
He was an amazing villain. I hated him so much.
I noticed that too! That was a powerful symbolism, Grimmel was absolutely an outstanding villian.
and something else worth pointing out about that scene is that hiccup had come to terms with his fate and wasn't trying to fight Grimmel as he was tearing off the wings and as they both fell to their fate but if Grimmel had not tried to rip off hiccup's already broken wings, then he would not have drifted away out of the reach of hiccup as he is saved.
HOLY SHIT YOU ARE RIGHT
The Whisperer of Death Another symbolic piece: Grimmel is the Hiccup that Hiccup didn’t become.
Don’t forget score
Don’t forget best runner up for best animated feature
another movie
I like how Liry subverts the expectations of "small woman weak must be protected by big strong man" that society has come to expect, instead she seems to be actively trying to protect both herself and Toothless at all times. Also, on the subject of her design, a lot of people brought up that her being white wouldn't help her camouflage as a nocturnal species, but in the hidden world everything glows so being white and sparkly would help you camouflage because it would be easier to reflect all of that glowing light making yourself harder to see. Okay I'm done now.
also clouds
Being white also blends her into the clouds. I don’t know why there were so many lash backs on Liry’s design. I really like her design actually
Also also she can literally turn invisible
i just think she should be more arodynamtic !! she looks like a aquatic dragon more than a air dragon (to me at least)
20:33
hiccup's son has a little sword and a toothless belt accessory im crying
And Hiccup’s shoulder pads have toothless on them
My guess is that the Night Fury (Toothless specifically) became the family crest, a symbol to represent the family and what they stand for.
And Toothless is smiling at him I'm sobbing
Oh my god I just noticed that and I love it 🥰
“There were dragons when I was a boy” comes from the book which at this point is almost a completely different series from the movies so to bring that back was brave and connects us to both endings (both of which were heartbreaking)
*theme song of HTTYD start*

Mhmm yeah true

Fun fact: during the movie when Hiccup is making the "new" tail Asrid asked "didint he have one of there before?" and hiccup even said "yes" (something around those lines) this was a reff to the FIRST HTTYD x-mas movie How to train your dragon- Gift of the nightfury- but now that he meets the lightfury this kinda re enact something that was a main point if HTTYD race to the edge: the episode where hookfang challenges a titan wing nightmare to protect a female he cares for but in the end hookfang came back to his rider. so kinda also explained why toothless didint freak out when he opened his tail and the new one mimicked, he has had this tail before but just not this upgraded!
i love how they add in those tiny snip hints of past things like GotN and even some scars from fights (if ya dont know: toothless has a few scars over his body at at around 9:33 we can see a scar around his wing joint)
(im sorry i have loved httyd and been with it from its first trailer drop! XD)
You could literally just play from “When I was a boy, there were dragons” all the way to the end. That whole section was about as perfect as it could get
But he kind of already had some issues with claims, so that wouldn't be the best idea. You are not wrong though.
That saying was from the books. A nice little callback
I love the name you gave the Light Fury, I'm gonna call her Liry now lol
This needs to be top comment.
The thing is, a sizeable portion of the fandom calls her *Nubless.*

HTTYD 2: Best in terms of World building and action.
HTTYD 3: Best in terms of emotion and nostalgia.
Xperts Reviews Best in their respective series? I can name many better movies than those three. The visuals may be mind blowing but the story is generic, boring and predictable.

HTTYD 1: well executed and written
HTTYD 2: best in terms of writting and well executed

7:55 except Liry isnt a Night Fury so she wouldnt look like toothless, its some kinda subspecies or something and we do see more Light Furies later on in the hidden world, its just that Toothless is the last night fury and they wanted to keep that so just invent a new species compatible enough with him and bam, i really respect that theres a subversion to "person who thought they were alone finds a hidden colony of more of them" and rather its brutal and honest that Toothless really is alone and the man whos responsible is coming for him
in my theatre:
"they'll come back when the time is right."
"So not soon?"
I mean considering how tense world relations are the the fact the Governments would def capture and experiment on dragons to weaponize them? oh and the fact humans fear anything different from them?... yeah no time soon
İf dragons existed they would be extinct in a couple of years to be honest
I did not watch this movie for political commentary, but there isn’t a better time for it.

@@mastersio3647 It's called "Toothless' Nemesis"
I love how the beginning of each of these movies show the progression between them. The first one starts with dragons attacking berk. The second one starts with Vikings playing a game with the dragons. And the third one starts with Vikings actively saving dragons. Just a cool way to show that Hiccup and the other riders have basically come full circle.
Toothless- last night fury
"Liry"- one of many light furies
Toothless and "Liry's" children- the first three night-light furies
Stickpaw SOS Actually the Night Lights featured may not be the first in existence... Hiccup and family meet them ten years after the film’s events, it could be possible Toothless and Liry had offspring already which were already grown, or at least juveniles... 😃
and the last 3 night-light furies because they are hybrids and hybrids can't breed...

I started crying watching this video.... I am broken
@@Joreel I actually really like toy story 4
The ending of this film single-handedly made me cry in under 3 minutes.
I was at the theater watching it and I started tearing up and I was like “no. No. I will not cry at a children’s movie. ... 😭”

You know it’s a great movie when the comments section isn’t just requests for future movies
Truest statement
On the note of there being more light furys in the hidden world scene, one might think once they noticed their kin(the night furys) dying off quickly and dissapearing, their natural instinct told them to retreat to safety before they were hunted as well(or once they started being hunted for their similaritys)
“Saving your BF’s BFF”
Don’t ignore the fact that Liry’s position is almost exactly like when Toothless at one point in the past movies
Omg I just realized that
She's in the exact situation as when Toothless was saving his BFF’s GF

This Should Be Called "CinemaWins Geeks Out Over The Attention To Detail In How To Train Your Dragon 3"
ItzDestroyerMC that’s pretty much what I came here for. No one else wants to geek out about the level of detail in The Hidden World.
They're more like Sub Species, not quite the same as a Night Fury but very close.

14:14 THIS MOMENT.
There is NOTHING in the entire series, nay, animation that capture this sheer level of utter triumph and victory
The sound plays so well with the scene

I was in the movie theaters as well, the place was packed and everyone said Aaawwwwww when we saw the babies. They are so cute and adorable that it brings tears to my eyes every time I think of that scene
My entire head felt light(I saw it in theaters)
