Hi everyone, thanks for watching. With these difficult times facing us, I just want to wish you all health and safety. At the moment, watches seem a little less important than usual, however, I hope these videos can offer some sense of escape from the challenges of this pandemic. Thankfully, I did manage to shoot several videos in the past several weeks that will allow me to upload quite a bit of content in the coming month despite the shutdowns and quarantines. Again, I wish you all the best and thank you for watching!
Keep it going, my friend! It is serious out there, but we need channels like yours to keep us entertained and focused on when we can get back to normal
When I show my watch collection to my friends, the Nomos and the Junghans Max Bill always get the most compliments. People seem to like them more than any casual or sporty watches.
Bought a Nomos Orion about 18 months ago as my first mechanical watch and my first watch since a casio about 20 years ago. It’s genuinely given me a love of watches. Added a Stowa Partito about a year ago and now love it too. Just about ready to get my first vintage watch now with a blue dial Datejust top of my list. Stumbled across your videos researching that purchases and I appreciate the enthusiasm and knowledge. Cheers!
So I got an Orion 41mm 2yrs ago for my birthday. Crown popped out twice. NOMOS customer service was excellent. Stuff happens, and they had to send the watch to Glashutte. I’m in the car business and understand mechanical defects happen. NOMOS was excellent. Got me the watch back within 7 weeks. Honestly, if the budget can handle a NOMOS, I suggest one. The finishing is WAY above its price point.
Patek etc owner here. I have a Ludwig due for delivery tomorrow and I am excited. I'd opine that dress watches are not on the decline as a fashion rule. I think that unreal prices are the factor driving down usage. Great thing I bought/received most of my watches back in the mid '80s. Looking forward to Nomos!!
I dont have a huge reason for a dress watch. In most situations, I can get away with something else or just find something cheaper. I was considering the more purely casual route where I'd get to wear it more often by getting the Sinn 104, an excellent watch and one I still would like to get someday, BUT then I held the Nomos. It is STUNNING in person. I also realized, I don't need to be going to a formal business meeting to wear a "dress watch". As long as I'm not down the shore in the water or hiking or something, I can wear it. For someone like me who doesn't "need" a dress watch often, I am ecstatic to own the Nomos Orion as my first luxury watch. You'll be upset when you look down one day wanting something "nice" to wear and it isn't there, trust me.
I have two Nomos. The Neomatik Midnight Blue 1115 and the Metro 38 1108. They look the same but different movements and colors. I really like them. Great design, light weight and thin. I don’t think they’re as popular as the three in your video.
I am in a position that requires me to be both dressed in a business casual and dress fashion. Having a watch piece that I can wear to both functions and at an affordable price is a great value...the Nomos provides this luxury.
The 35 mm I think help with this. Tangente the lug length is a bit less noticeable given the sharp bend at the middle of the lugs. Thanks for watching!
I thought they would be too big for my tiny wrists as well. But after I tried a couple of them on, even the 41mm Tangente Update, I noticed they fit pretty well and the lugs give it a super nice aesthetic.
I've worn a 33mm nomos for years, very comfortable and much more appealing than many of the larger versions. With the lugs being as long as they are and it being mostly dial, it wears much larger than you would expect. The big downside is that the lug width is 17mm. This makes straps a bit tricky unless you make your own.
Orión 38mm with all silver marks & hands owner. I have 7.25 inch wrist. gotta say Nomos is a no brainer choice for people who would prefer to have a dress piece but don’t wanna break the bank. If you are into sporty watches then save all your money for those ones & have a Nomos in collection in case any occasions you need a dressy one.
Love Nomos as a brand. Being retired, and living in a sub tropical climate, I rarely don a formal suit these days so while I like the look and idea of a dress watch but rarely would u wear one, so so etching more universal and fun like the tetra or club neomatic would be my choice. Plus you rarely see Nomos here in Australia
I've always considered Cartier Tank as a quintessential dress watch. Back in the 70's I could never afford a Cartier but did get one in Seiko ala Tank style. Eventually I was able to purchase a Cartier. Even today I consider the Tank, "The dress watch". I also still have that Seiko Tank.
It was Tank Solo XL. But soon after that I bought a JLC Reverso. I liked them both, but I sold the Cartier last year. I still like Cartier but now I'm eyeing the Santos.@@randomocityvideos
Always need a dress watch. It's how I got started as well and even though a diver can be a lot of fun and a gshock makes you feel invincible, a dress watch brings a level of class and refinement to everyday living. It makes you feel like a gentleman. It reminds of bygone ages of tradition and elegance.
Important to note that the gangreserve and datum models do not have the Alpha movement. The Alpha is only partially in-house while the DUW 4101 is fully in-house and has the NOMOS swing system.
I have the Ludwig 33 and put it on the Nomos shell cordovan strap. The alpha caliber is very reliable. I also wear an old 31mm Patek 3796. The dress watch is more versatile than many think and used to be the only watch most men owned until quite recently.
This video dropped at a good time. I'm considering a Nomos Ludwig 38 to complete my four watch collection but need to see one in the flesh to see if it's for me and my 7.25" wrist. Such a tough call in the dress watch category as there is so much choice. I started collecting with a diver but find I'm warming to dress watches a lot more recently. I appreciate the class and simple elegance they have to offer.
We have the exact same taste in watches! Well at least the "you" when you were first starting out. I got into watches from Daniel Wellington (no shame). I explored a bit deeper in watches in the same design style and eventually, I found Nomos, Glashutte Original, etc although my wallet keeps me from owning them. For Nomos I only liked the Orion at first but now I've learned to appreciate the other two. I like the rounded case in Orion the best, especially the curved lugs, and I like the dial design on both Orion and ludwig. The Orion is the cleanest for more stylish points, but Ludwig offers a more classical take on watches and I'm a sucker for that too (you can tell I like GO senator, I know). Both work great in suits with Ludwig having a slight lead with that classical dial, while Orion just rocks everywhere.... why else did you think DW could sell, right? Great video man
I have been looking at Nomos as my next piece, and I have been looking at these three models (although the silver tangente). I still haven’t decided if I want to go for the more traditional styling of the Orion, or the more funky Tangente, or split the difference with the Ludwig. All great watches!
About a Month ago I got the Noms Tantente 35mm limited "Glück Auf" Version. Its a beautiful homage to my Family Heritage. Nomos make such beautiful Watches. Great Video!
@@huehuehue-x3c Ture is that the Nomos has a thinner case, but it costs double or more. Yes you can get a Stowa Anea with small seconds and date, just look it up.
Not sure that dress watches are dwindling here in the uk. You don’t see many members of the general public wearing dive watches (so beloved and ubiquitous in the relatively small watch community) but you see an awful lot of Daniel Wellingtons and similar minimalist design fashion watches. For those true enthusiasts who like the Bauhaus minimalist design but that don’t want to buy junk these manual wind, slim Nomos watches are just perfect. As for the finishing and look of the movement, all I can say is ‘wow!’ High end luxury style finishing at a (just about) affordable price. Nice video.
Teddy, Thanks for another thoughtful video. The Nomos Bauhaus design hints are beautiful. As to dress v. sport watches. My take is influenced by my collection interests. I have six different Bulova dress watches that I share with my wife. All six (including watches from the 30s, 40s and 50s) put together cost less than a modern Nomos. When shopping for sport watches, modern technology in automatics and mechanics far surpasses the capabilities of vintage watches. But, when you are talking about a watch under a dress shirt cuff, a vintage watch from a reliable American firm like Bulova, Waltham, Hamilton or Elgin is my choice.
Went watch shopping with my son for his graduation and wanted to buy a couple of Nomos in Costamesa California as beautiful as they look on camara once we had them on our wrists and despite a great 15% discount we went for a Longines Record for my son and an Omega Aqua Terra for my self.
Two very nice choices. The Longines record is a very solid competitor in this price range and actually crossed my mind when making the title. Thanks for watching and stay safe Luis!
Absolutely love your video and this brand that you made me discover. It's crazy now how any watch looks either bulky or cheap or dull compared to these. Pure elegance.
It's not love/hate. It's love/meh. I don't think anyone can really hate these watches. However, a dress watch like this that's very understated doesn't translate to video. The problem I have with Nomos is that they don't really amaze, it's just a well fine watch. For someone like me who has a watch collection on the affordable end, if I'm spending a few thousand on a watch, it needs to wow me. If I had my prized watch already, then a Nomos would be appealing. I like them, but I wouldn't save up for one...
I came to this video just after I watched the Philippe Dufour interview where he praised the A. Lange & Sohne Datograph and Nomos. These Nomos watches are elegant. Perfect minimalist expressions, regardless of price. Still, I found a watch that is so reductive and so pure it makes the Simplicity look complicated. The Credor Eichi ll Ruri Blue. If I can own just one watch in the world, the Eichi ll would be it.
A dress watch is essential to a gentleman's watch collection. As important as sport watches even if worn less often. I don't often wear an overcoat or tuxedo, but I choose to own both. As usual excellent review of under appreciated brand.
Thanks for this comparison Teddy, I have had my eye on the 35mm Orion for a while but now I like the other two options almost as much! I am surprised to hear that Nomos outsells Junghans in volume? I adore my Max Bill, and Junghans is what got me interested in the Bauhaus aesthetic. It is sad to hear that dress watches are losing popularity. Having 6" wrists, dress watches have great appeal to me. I keep hoping the sports watch craze will fade a bit so other styles can get more of the attention they deserve.
My preference is dress watches and field watches. I like the Nomos Tangente, it's unique compared to other dress watches and would like to own it oneday.
The older club is my favourite. Very clean design yet sporty at the same time, only complaint is that yes the lugs extend way out but it's not a deal breaker I'll still rock it.
In my opinion the Orion is the best looking of the three, although they all look great. I don't know if the SARB033 and Tissot PR100 (white, with aftermarket black leather strap) are considered dress watches, but those are my two favorites that I alternate during the work week and when I'm going out on on the weekends, with a diver and a field for outdoorsy stuff. Nomos is out of my price range, but that Orion sure has me drooling. Thanks for getting my mind off all the troubles just for a few minutes.
Hey Teddy, Great video all the way. I bought my Metro 38 last year after the thorough research (I was going to buy tangente at first) After I found your channel, Istart following the watches industry because of you, please continue making the great videos. Cheers!
Love Nomos, been saving up for one the past year - probably a Metro 35 in midnight blue. I think they are making really unique, timeless watches, great movements, all at rock solid prices. I’m mostly a tool watch guy but I’d like to expand the dress watch side of my collection. I’d love to see you review the Metro!
Very nice overview Teddy! I’ve recently ventured from sports watch to the realm of dress watches thanks to reviews from yourself and the good folks at Hodinkee. I’ve become captivated with the simplistic beauty of Nomos, particularly the Orion 38mm Midnight Blue Ref. 389. Dollar for dollar it’s the best value dress watch IMO. Overall I feel like the brand is definitely deserving of a spot in the “Modern Day Trinity” alongside Grand Seiko and Tudor for producing affordable options to the likes of their more expensive Swiss competitors. Thanks again for the great video and keep up the great work!
I own the Max Bill but won't go for the Nomos. For me, a Small second watch is no-go. I love to watch the sweeping seconds and small seconds is just too small. Keep strong, Teddy. Hopefully soon we'll be sophisticated enough to really actively collect watches again. Strength to you and your family and friends.
The quality of your videos has become insane! Keep up the good work! Personally, my style is smart casual (Shirts & chinos or dark jeans), but I love dress watches so much they make most of my collection. I try to dress them with strap. But usually, the elegance of a dress watch cannot be beaten
Teddy, I love and appreciate Dress watches and I am supporting your belief that Dress watches are important. To yourself and myself. Thank you I have learned a lot about watches and there movements. I àm new to the watch collection of my desire thanks for the education. Take care and I look forward to my love of Dress Watches.
They are simply so classy - fantastic design and craftmanship! Manual wind and no screw down crown is the way to go. I have quite a few chronos/sport watches, but have recently discovered the world of more dressy watches. No Nomos yet, but..... Great video, as always 😉👍
Love my limited Tangomat Norma, and Zurich worldtimer in blue dial. Nomos watches are the best for their functionality, and modern aesthetic for the money. It is especially appealing to designers and architects for example myself. And I think that is the audience they are targeting for too.
You make great videos. I have a bunch (7 or 8) of vintage Omegas from the 50's, 60's an early 70's I use as dress watches. I understand the attraction to the very clean and fresh look of a Nomos but a bit of patina also suits a dress watch.
Great video Tedd. I love NOMOS and currently own the 38.5mm club datum and the 35mm Tangente blue. My next will be the 35mm Orion that you own. I feel that NOMOS is such a cool brand that offers looks and quality at a great price that few can rival.
Man... I have like 4 watches that I bought thinking I would wear them when I get exceptionally dressed up, but when the time came, all of them felt lackluster and didn't complete or compliment the look like intended. I've been looking at the Tangente Datum for a few years .. I think I just need to pull the damn trigger on it already..
I really don’t know why, but dress watches always seemed the most beautiful to me, ever since I was around 17 years of age (first time I came in contact with watches). They have an understatement, classiness and timeless beauty to them that only seems to get more handsome the closer one looks. They aren’t loud and seem to be bought because the owner likes the look and not because they want to show everyone how rich they are because they own a big fat Rolex (big thing in Germany). Don’t know why, but I’d rather be the understated, underestimated gentleman than the big watch guy, who drives a leased AMG for 2k/ month and lives in a tiny apartment because he can’t afford more as car and watch are too expensive. (Only annoyed by the „blenders“ who don’t care about the watch other than its brand, yes another big thing where I live- this just doesn’t happen with dress watches)
Thoughts on the Stowa Antea v the Tangente? You get very comparable finishing/quality, more heritage (IMO, since Stowa's been producing that design since the 30s), and a smaller more 'boutique' brand for a significantly lower price. You lose the in-house movement and that's a definite drawback, but the Alpha is basically an updated iteration of the 7001 anyway.
I really like Nomos! They definetly have there place in the watch industry and I love there Bauhaus design language. I just graduated from collage and now I'm looking for a dress watch... I'm absolutly in love with the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso but I can't afford it yet. I really like the Nomos Orion too and I could pull the trigger on it already.. Not sure if I should wait and save on the reverso or if I should get the Orion
Have a Stowa Antea 390 klassic. Very similar to the Nomos. Don’t wear it often. But have several Stowas and happy with the brand and quality. Down side it’s a 4 to 6 week wait. Since they only sell direct. I did get a Junghans Max Bill Chronosopy and a plain anthercite Max Bill. Love them all. But when and if I get another Bauhaus. I’ll save my pennies and get a Nomos. Probably in blue so not to duplicate the Antea.
Teddy. Could you get your hands on the JLC blue and silver “sector dial”? And do a review of it. It may be the classiest and coolest watch I’ve ever seen.
I love the minimalist design. But the lug lengths just didnt look right to me. Plus, they are so light that the pieces just seemed fragile to me. Ultimately I went with the JLC Geophysic 1958 Limited Edition. Not at all in the same price range, but sooooo worth it!
That's what I think. I was in Vienna with my partner a few years ago and she pointed out the Nomos display - I'd never heard of them but I spent 10 minutes gazing at them and bought a Tangente later that year. Just added a Midnight Blue Club Campus 39 with the Neomatik movement.
I feel Montblanc delivers excellent value also. I would personally go with the Timewalker, with its Bauhaus design rather than the Tagente. At the moment, it's much more underrated than Nomos. And let us not forget that Richemont, owns Montblanc which also owns Vacheron Constantin, A Lange Sohne, IWC, Jaeger Lecoultre, Cartier. Of course not in the same prowess in horology, but it gives you something to think about. -Cheers
Have the Ahoi, and love Nomos, I do believe you were the person who have influenced me. I think later on this year I want to get a Nomos (maybe a Junghans) in blue, leaning towards the Tagente in arabics, For some reason I feel Nomos do not want a date, but it isn't a datebreaker the Club also interests me in 41mm which like the Ahoi and a bit of a different look than other watches in their stable. sad part is I like them all except (for me) the Tetra,. When and if the time comes I will see which watch in blue that I can get the best deal (new and would look into grey market) I can get. I love the look o Nomos, looking at the open case back can be hypnotic. I do have a Stowa Antea which I would attempt to sell, luckily they have a decent resale or trade in value. Like like the Nomos are extremely well made.Teddy you do extremely well made video's and do the best reviewing Nomos and other bauhaus watches. When searching for my present Ahoi, got the best deal going grey from a reputable dealer, matching or beating clean used, and was surprised it had a filled in. warranty card. And yes it's a love it or hated watch, but can't argue over its quality. I hope Archie doesn't have a stoke over this.
I really wish Nomos made a dial with a traditional second hand instead of a small subdial. Wonder if anyone here has heard of Sternglas - microbrand that designs some beautiful looking stuff, love their Naos. Yes it's not an in-house movement but sapphire glass and great looking case/dial for a cheaper great looking watch.
After torturing myself over which Junghans to go after as a dress watch, I saw a listing for a Longines Legend and just had to go after it. It's definitely not a dress watch, but it's subtle and versatile enough to pull it off.
Both the German and Swiss watch makers left a gap which was then filled by Seiko: Watches in every style for any budget. Seiko is a great brand without a shadow of a doubt.
This Nomos is dead sexy. I didn't see the price in the video title until I had fallen in love. Huge bummer!!! The movement just looks so elegant, the entire watch really.
I think my dress watch would definitely beat these three. It’s a Omega Seamaster 30 286 cal 18k gold. It has a power reserve 45 hours 18000 A/h. It is dead bang accurate. It is in mint condition. I bought this two weeks back for $1,150.00. I got a great deal On a fabulous watch. In my mind there is no comparison. Which watch comes out on top. This one great dress watch from 1963.
I agree with you on the fact that it's getting harder to find dress watches. I like the Nomos designs but I prefer the Junghans Max Bill, that is a personal opinion of course. Great video and thank you. You are one of the few you tubers doing the German watches. How about something on Muhle Glashutte, I have one of their watches and it's become a favorite of mine to wear. Just a suggestion from a southern Ohio native.

But, when you are talking about a watch under a dress shirt cuff, a vintage watch from a reliable American firm like Bulova, Waltham, Hamilton or Elgin is my choice.
same here, NOMOS got me into watches due to their designs and a great story behind the brand.
Longines heritage 1945 is much better than nomos I feel, long history, perfect case size and classy dress watch.
My Orion datum 38mm on my 7 inch wrist is just perfect. Nice review. I like dress watches. Let's review some dress watches!!
Stay safe everyone!
Hey Teddy,
Great video all the way.
I bought my Metro 38 last year after the thorough research (I was going to buy tangente at first)
After I found your channel, Istart following the watches industry because of you, please continue making the great videos.
Huge fan of Nomos, I own the Orion 38 and the company are fantastic to deal with.
Agree 100%!!!! I just pull the triger with a Tangente 101 with the Peseaux movement and I can't be more satisfied
Teddy! I love all the time you take to make these Quality videos. One thing I'd love to see more though, is more time spent on wrist shots.
They are simply so classy - fantastic design and craftmanship! Manual wind and no screw down crown is the way to go. I have quite a few chronos/sport watches, but have recently discovered the world of more dressy watches. No Nomos yet, but..... Great video, as always 😉👍
Thank you my friend! And agreed on the pieces!
My Junghans Driver Meister has a Perseux movement and I already thought this Nomos ”inhouse” movement looked familiar
The blue autobahn is my fav but a tangente is probably what I will buy.
Thanks for the videos and keep them coming. They do provide a sense of normalcy.
Love my limited Tangomat Norma, and Zurich worldtimer in blue dial. Nomos watches are the best for their functionality, and modern aesthetic for the money. It is especially appealing to designers and architects for example myself. And I think that is the audience they are targeting for too.
I’m so pleased that I have little need for a dress watch. That midnight blue Tangente though would be a contender if I did.
Several of these were absolute beauties. I'd like a Nomos Neomatik in midnight blue (Arabic numerals).
Someday I'll get one. Mostly thanks to you. Want to see one in person before I'll buy. Probably the Tangete 38 date.
Thoughts on the Orion White for a two watch collection?
Man... I have like 4 watches that I bought thinking I would wear them when I get exceptionally dressed up, but when the time came, all of them felt lackluster and didn't complete or compliment the look like intended. I've been looking at the Tangente Datum for a few years
Wouldn't necessarily call without an in-house movement a drawback
Tbh I see those 2 lines as similar. Just take one according to your looks preference
I’m definitely a dress watch guy. I love that Ludwig. And I love the size of these watches, especially their thinness.
I’m team Nomos. Ref 384. Checks all the boxes I require in a dress watch not named Patek ref 5196G.
Ludwig for sure ❤️🎄
Love the video content, but just wanted to say, absolutely love the stuff you do with your videos in terms of editing, photos, and more. Keep it up!
My grail watch is Nomos Orion 36mm Neomatik but that's almost £3,000 in UK.
Please do a similar format video with the Minimatik.... I think it's disregarded and overlooked quite a bit and is definitely worth checking out
Love them! Really love them. Perfect designs
-Cheers
This is coming from someone who owns both watches.
Long live the dress watch! Those Tangente and Orion watches are amazing! Ludwig is cool but for me the Orion and Tangente really take the cake
They had two of these numerated in Iceland and somebody had bought them.I think it was the 2016 model. The Orion was better than the tangente model .
I am missing the Nomos Zurich in your fine review. Phantastic watch.
Definitely need to cover that in the future
Wish they made this color way of the Orion in the 36 mm neomatik
Beautiful. However i have my eye on the Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic, white dial.
The cinematography is 👌🏻
Personally prefer the lugs if the Orion over the others.
That shirt jacket is killer!
This Nomos is dead sexy. I didn't see the price in the video title until I had fallen in love. Huge bummer!!! The movement just looks so elegant, the entire watch really.
I absolutely love Nomos watches, especially the Ludwig. It's a shame you see the Bauhaus design everywhere nowadays because of daniel Wellington...
The Tangente is my dream watch 🥺
I think my dress watch would definitely beat these three. It’s a Omega Seamaster 30
286 cal 18k gold. It has a power reserve 45 hours 18000 A/h. It is dead bang accurate.
It is in mint condition. I bought this two weeks back for $1,150.00. I got a great deal
On a fabulous watch.
I love how he models it himself hahaha. Awesome dude!
I think the Hamilton Intramatic and some Seiko mechanicles are better value and offer great quality.
