    Teddy, honestly my english is not so good but I would like to share my feeling on omega globemaster which I finally bought last week as one of my 'apostles' collection. It's outlook is subtle but exuding an unique and light luxury temperment, three links bracelet looks simple but perfect match with the case, what a great integrated design, 3D pie pan dial is so vintage, not just appreance is nice but putting bracelet on my 6.25 inch wrist is so comfortable, of course equipping with higher level 8900 co-axal movement is bonus which making this new apostle possess both external and internal beauty, agree with you that he is underated.

    Just bought a Cartier Tank Must Large a month ago. The XL fit my wrist, but I preferred the simpler, no-date face of the smaller option. Also, in this instance, I think quartz is a benefit as I won't be wearing this piece everyday. So I won't have to worry about resetting it each time I go to put it on. Love it!!

    • @chiguy750
      @chiguy750 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I decided on the Must XL over the large. The 1847MC movement is used in many of Cartier’s higher end watches and for $3,700 I couldn’t let this one go. However, I dislike the date window but try to ignore it. Also, excepting some beater Casios, I can no longer buy anything quartz.

    I feel like we're finally moving back to my favourite category with dress watches and away from the sports watch trend, obviously the omnipresence of the Royal Oak, Nautilus and various Rolex models will linger a lot longer but I'm excited for the prospect of being able to obtain some watches at a more reasonable price point too, hype is great for an industry but terrible for an individual consumer.
    I'm also incredibly interested to see what brands like RM do during the shift to dress watches, will we see something more in that vein but with the unmistakable RM DNA or will they stay the course and hope that luxury sports hyper-watch market stays the same and doesn't want anything new? Very interesting years ahead

    • @manuel_winde
      @manuel_winde ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do think that a big of RM’s appeal is their price- it was like when people wanted champagne with orange yellow wrapping around it or shoes with red bottoms. Not everyone, but I suspect most buyers are buying it as a status symbol and less for the design.
      I’m not a fan of RM but I’d genuinely be really interested to see some ultra thin 38mm pieces with their dna- could look great. I think a lot of the Rolex/AP/PP models will stay the course as you say although maybe more leather straps, but even their sports models are considered dressy to many people. But I think we will see less if the big utilitarian industrial looking sports watches within the next few years. (Good!)

    • @Bmx2live2008
      @Bmx2live2008 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@manuel_winde I'd definitely be interested to see a thin RM with a slightly more elegant profile, they've definitely carved out a niche with the flex culture that can't see going anywhere but considering they have their finger on the pulse I imagine they be wouldn't want to miss out on a trend, as for PP, AP & VC they already have a long and proud history of dressier pieces.
      Rolex will likely just weather it until sports comes back again, refuse to innovate as always given their dominance in market share which is a real shame because with the money and talent they have behind the brand they could really breathe some life into the Cellini, proper complications and high horology, step up their movement finishing. Ahh well even if they don't we still see an influx of great dress watches incoming.

      @manuel_winde ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This video pretty much sums up my current dilemma. I am getting married in 9 months. I have spent already 3 months trying to find a dress watch for said wedding, something I can keep forever and live in the collection as a commemorative piece but it is impossible. Many of these options are on my list-in addition to the Parmigiani Fluerier 1950, which at £11,000 has the best looking movement money can buy.
    One thing to mention on the VC 1921. When shopping at VC I was told the off centre dial was created not for driving, but for C-suite/execs. It was considered rude to check the time during speeches, meeting etc. So VC positioned the dial so that whilst the hands are resting in front of you, at a quick glance you can track the time, and the time of your speech… thats what i was told anyway. Still what an incredible watch.

    My first real purchase will be the Omega Planet Ocean, because that's the watch that got me into mechanical watches. I have wanted it for 15 years. However, I need a dressier watch (lawyer) because sometimes a PO is not appropriate. My problem is that I don't really like the aesthetic of most dress watches within reasonable price range. The passable dressier watches I like are the JLC Master Calendar, Ulysse Nardin Torpilleur Moon, and GO PanoLunar (dressier in comparison to the PO). Its hard to justify spending that much on something I don't like as much as the PO. But, I really like the idea of having something a little more bespoke & handmade than something mass market like a rolex or omega. Can you recommend something around $3-7k? I really like a moonphase complication, and I think it would be really cool to have with a GMT on the same dial. Is there GMT-moonphase in this price range? If I really had to, I would just fall back on the Globemaster or ceramic bezel Constellation, but I'm not smitten like I am with the PO.

Based on my experience and those who I know working at the company, I've been saying for years that Longines movements are jointly manufactured (parts and assembly) by ETA and Longines at the Longines site itself. It is, for all intent and purposes, in house.

    Fantastic video as always, Teddy. I love GO and have heard you talk about the pano collection many times. But what about the Senator collection. I recently bought the Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase 40mm with white dial and it is a perfect dressy watch that is also very versatile for every day office wear. I highly recommend!

    Ah yes, the dress watch. Spending automobile money on a watch to wear to an occasion where it is impolite to look at your watch. Good thing I like wearing a dress watch whenever the spirit moves me.

    Dress watches are an excellent category for a vintage piece. They are generally more affordable than their vintage sport watch counterparts, making it easier to pay a slight premium to a reputable dealer. 50s or 60s manual wind movements from Omega or Longines are excellent, and the watches themselves come in all variety of case and dial designs.

    Teddy, just but 2 Seiko watches from your site, the SPB121 & SPB155. Can’t wait to get them. Just curious, what do you think about the Davosa brand as a luxury watch. I own two.

    Teddy, I agree with you starting out with Longines on this topic of dress watches. However, in addition to the Longines Heritage Classic Sector Dial, I think you also need to consider both the Quartz and Automatic versions of the Gold PVD and Stainless Steel models of the La Grande Classique de Longines. Both of these are less than $2,000 and are very elegant and classic in style for dress watches. Not enough is not talked about this model of Longines luxury dress watches.

    GO PML. Asymmetric super stylish dial, turn it to the back to see an equally asymmetrical display of rotor and DOUBLE swan neck because one is so weak. Walks off stage and here comes Piaget Altiplano. LOL that's like a new in town comedian having to perform after Dave Chappelle wtf LMAO

    Just as a reminder, the prices can vary quite a lot from place to place.
    Here in Norway, a brand new Cartier Tank Must XL costs Kr 64 500 (NOK) or $6247.46 (USD) according to exchange rates registered at 10.01.2024 17:08

    Damn! I have several of these watches! I have the Rolex Datejust 2 (41mm), I have the GO Panomatic Lunar, the Globemaster blue dial with rose gold bezel and crown, and I have the Cartier Tank Must xl. I guess that means I like dress watches.

    You know, as a problem child with Swiss made watches - I have had better luck with Japanese watches - I did buy a Frederique Constant 35 mm quartz dress watch, which was normally 900 bucks on clearance for 260 as a discontinued item. It is a very thin quartz, Bruguet hands on a textured white dial. It is gorgeous, and for the fraction of the cost, has the same impact. It is solidly built, and very elegant.

    All good stuff, big fan of dress watches too. By the way, about that Vacheron Driver's Historique watch, it only makes sense if you wear it UNDER your wrist. That way with your hands on the wheel, you can read the time properly. One rarely needs more than a dress watch, IMO.

    The F.P. Journe is amazing in every respect . . . but can you actually get one from an AD?
    If I were inclined to save up for just one pricy watch, I think the Reverso would the one. Great looks, and JLC is just exotic enough to be interesting (vs. Rolex, which is actually pretty common in crowds of a certain demographic.)
