I am mostly a Pro Controller player, and I started Project Diva 8 months ago, which is also my first introduction as a new time Vocaloid fan, and my hardest difficulty is 9.5 on both Extreme and Extra Extreme. Some songs are easy to do on it and some are more annoying. But it shows you that Pro Controller can do their work. In my opinion however, there are some stuff that are almost hard or impossible to do on NS Pro. For example, lightning fast spam (like Betty the Liar Ex Ex spam or Mousou Sketch Ex Ex spam), and really fast and long 270’s or 360’s (Grumpy Waltz Ex Ex, Intense Voice both difficulties, Negaposi*Continues Extreme). Some stuff are more annoying to do on Pro Controller but are possible, like long strings of multi note patterns (Ex: I perfected Leia Ex Ex with NS Pro, and is one of my proudest accomplishments, and I also perfected How’d It Get to Be Like This on Extreme.) or small lightning spam sections (Mousou Sketch Extreme and Bring It On Extreme). Also in my opinion, there are some songs in which it is almost required to use JoyCon grip than Pro Controller due to high technical demands some charts have. I use the joycons (with the grip of course) for all 10 rhythm games I currently have on the switch (I don't have mega 39 though since FT is just better), the separated buttons on both sides makes it pretty much impossible to missinput anything. I use the hori controller featured in this video in every other game, since it's actually quite good for those. But yeah the joycons have helped me get many full combos in Taiko, Groove Coaster, Muse Dash and more. They're pretty much perfect except for the L and R buttons, those are awful but I can just use ZL and ZR instead, which actually function properly lol.
I personally really like the joycon grip with mega39 the buttons are separate and feel nice, also same kinda buttons on each side so alternating feels real nice (imo) I have small(?) hands so the small close together buttons work for me, but I could see it not working for someone with bigger hands
Yeah, the joycons with the grip are fantastic for the game, I actually ended up liking them more than the DS4. What makes them great is that the Dpad is actually 4 separate buttons instead of just a covered up Dpad like the DS4 so it's perfect for the game. The only issue is that the buttons are really small so if you have bigger hands it probably isn't great for you, but otherwise it's perfect.

WHAT 100$? Here it's at 60€?! Anyways I prefer the pro controller as it doesn't hurt my wrist for some reason and the PS4 controller does so yeah so much better
Sorry my comment is late. I use the Pro Controller for Project Diva Megamix, and sometimes it isn't the best choice for ExEx or Ex. The position of your thumb and "Tilt" the Dpad into a different direction and get you a wrong. You gotta press securely in one direction in order to avoid a wrong.😃😃
I have tiny fingers so I don't activate the diagonal on the pro so I often use that but because of my small hands I like using the joycons too so I switch back and forth depending on if the sing has slide notes or not
I busted my pro controllers d pad playing tetris 99, surviving two whole ex songs without reducing that overpriced pieace of plastic to dust is an achievement
Do I have to have the pro controller first before buying the adapter for a DS4? I only have the joycons but I would LOVE to use a DS4 for Miku on switch as well as Groove Coaster
1 question, are japan rankings better than western ones? For example if i have 2 goods and i'm 3rd in the rankings, in japan would be the same or there they are much more better than in the western version? I ask this because im getting very quickly in the top 10 in rankings in america i have 10 songs more or less from 10 to 3 position, i hope this would be understable.
i like playing mega mix with the joycon controller because the buttons are small and easy to press, idk how I do it but I do, the pro controller is too wide for me to play, the buttons are spaced a little too far apart for me lol
I tried to learn 360s using your video, but now I can do this only in "This is Happiness and what's the name of that committee idk" and only ignoring the other charts. So, sliding on Joy-Con is now the easiest way to do this 4 me
I'm using the MagicNS adapter with my switch to use a DS4 on it, and I can't even feel a difference to FT on PS4, concerning input delay. Also, fuck asymmetrical sticks.
I picked up the 8BitDo adapter to pair the DualShock 4 controller but even after adjusting the offset, that slight input delay is hard to play with imo.
@@hisokeee oh sick, I'll have to try that. Do you think the wired option would work with the model 1 DS4 or just model 2? (Thanks again, you've been an amazing help with all things Mega39s)
Hey hiso (or anybody) i have a question... I don't have a ps4 and, is there a problem if i need to charge the ds4 or does it stay charged with the adaptor being connected to the console? :(
It takes time to learn as hiso said everyone takes a different amount of time to learn I been playing alittle over a year and I cant get the reverse 360s down yet on Intense Voice its alittle too fast of a swap for me
The real question; will they eventually port these songs that aren't in Future Tone? I don't want to buy this on Switch only for it to have less songs than Future Tone, especially after I bought all the packs. I'd be willing to buy a Mega Mix pack, but not willing to do all that again on the Switch.
I saw the dpad, its a cross like the pro controller, so it may not be the best but I do not have one so I cannot give you sure answer. At the least you can connect any controller to it so if it turns out to suck, you have backup plan
@@hisokeee yeah, that was the idea if I feel so horrible the Mini experience. Also thanks for the answer, I didn't know it was the same dpad as the pro controller. Btw Hiso, did you know about the new Arcade pannel to Mega 39's? It's pretty sick. I saw it on a channel called NihongoGamer if you didn't know about it.
Is there another option for a ps4 controller adapter? The one you have linked is sold out and I honestly have no idea what I'm looking for when I'm searching on amazon :( Also, do you have any tips for figuring out your input lag? I'm having a Time trying to figure out the delay on my TV with my joycons. Thank you!
I have heard of 8 bit do adapter but it is bluetooth only while the one i linked is both usb and bluetooth. Input lag can not be changed, that setting ingame offsets the music only. So you have to play on a better monitor or enable game mode if you havent already on your tv to reduce lag
@@hisokeee Oh, i see! that makes a lot of sense about the lag, because nothing I did seemed to help. Guess I'll stick to handheld until I can get a capture card for my laptop! Thank you :]

It looks like either the last adapter one is the best option with joycons in second. But, I don't have a ps4 and don't know what to buy if I go with the first option, or if it's even worth it. If you have any advice, please let me know!
try joycons first and if it really bugs you then buy the ps4 controller + the adapter but I would probably try to test it out first before u spend all that money. some people still dont like the feel of the ps4 controller
Hello Im a beginner with this game and I dont really like playing with the joycon lol also this is my first miku game ever what would be the best controller I plan on taking it seriously and I have a budget ?
I would test a ps4 controller from a friends house if you never tried it before. If you like it then buying the adapte+ps4 controller would be my recommendation. but the combined price would be a bit more than a pro controller from nintendo
Did you mod that DS4 in any way to keep it from imputing random diagonals if you wiggle a d-pad button or hit it from the wrong angle? Both of the ones I have have done that since they were brand new, it's very annoying.
Hmm I believe you may just need a bit more practice, I've been through multiple ds3 and ds4 and I found its always been my fault when I miss on the dpad. Then again it may also have to do with how you grip the controller since everyone's hand size is different. I suggest recording your hands while playing with the gameplay somehow so you can see when you make a mistake what you did wrong. It helps a ton when I was first starting out
As he said in the video you buy a adapter. If you rewatch when he was doing the PS4 controller test it shows the adapter not the controller before he started the test
the only downside I have heard with that adapter is it is bluetooth only, and compared to the one I have it allows usb option. As long you are not playing too far from the switch and you don't notice too much of a delay you should be good. I've had different opinions on it people complaining it drops inputs or adds too much delay to play seriously and other people saying its been fine for them

He said 100 CAD which is a bit different than $100 usd. It's about $75 which is still really expensive
@@kidayagaming956 yea in aus it's $90
Canadian dollars are weird
@@thisperson8168 Still we have better quality/security protection bill compare to US :P
Did you try popping the d-pad off of the horipad? There's d-buttons underneath like on the Joycons
I recommend the horipad JOYCONS. They work great! And there only 50$ in the USA and 70 in THE CAD
"The dpad is so f*cking fat" 💀💀
Sorry my comment is late.
I use the Pro Controller for Project Diva Megamix, and sometimes it isn't the best choice for ExEx or Ex. The position of your thumb and "Tilt" the Dpad into a different direction and get you a wrong. You gotta press securely in one direction in order to avoid a wrong.😃😃
the gamecube controller is the only way i can play on tv, my joycons broke 😔👊
I have tiny fingers so I don't activate the diagonal on the pro so I often use that but because of my small hands I like using the joycons too so I switch back and forth depending on if the sing has slide notes or not
Dual wield arcade sticks when?
I busted my pro controllers d pad playing tetris 99, surviving two whole ex songs without reducing that overpriced pieace of plastic to dust is an achievement
you know the D-pad on that Hori controller can be removed to reveal four separate buttons, right?
I do now lol, I updated my pinned comment about that
You can take off the Horipad D-pad to make it easier.
Do I have to have the pro controller first before buying the adapter for a DS4? I only have the joycons but I would LOVE to use a DS4 for Miku on switch as well as Groove Coaster
No the pro controller is nothing to do with the adapter, all you need is adapter and ds4
@@hisokeee Thank you so much for replying! Ordering the adapter right now
1 question, are japan rankings better than western ones? For example if i have 2 goods and i'm 3rd in the rankings, in japan would be the same or there they are much more better than in the western version? I ask this because im getting very quickly in the top 10 in rankings in america i have 10 songs more or less from 10 to 3 position, i hope this would be understable.
i like playing mega mix with the joycon controller because the buttons are small and easy to press, idk how I do it but I do, the pro controller is too wide for me to play, the buttons are spaced a little too far apart for me lol
I have a pro controller but I bought a knock off pro controller for $30 that has a better D-pad than the actual the pro controller
What do you do to have the hold notes keep being held?
Macros, you can search up controller tutorial on my channel I made for future tone
4:36 Pffffff always doing like that, but... On the Joy-Cons
I tried to learn 360s using your video, but now I can do this only in "This is Happiness and what's the name of that committee idk" and only ignoring the other charts. So, sliding on Joy-Con is now the easiest way to do this 4 me
If the Joycon suffers from stick drifting won't it cause a WRONG to trigger since that would be a slide note input?
Since they're sliders it shouldnt effect the notes
I just want an arcade machine styled controller for this game PLEASE
I'm using the MagicNS adapter with my switch to use a DS4 on it, and I can't even feel a difference to FT on PS4, concerning input delay. Also, fuck asymmetrical sticks.
Just get a joycon and move on the menu with dpad then compare to the ds4
I picked up the 8BitDo adapter to pair the DualShock 4 controller but even after adjusting the offset, that slight input delay is hard to play with imo.
should try the one i got since it has wired option
@@hisokeee oh sick, I'll have to try that. Do you think the wired option would work with the model 1 DS4 or just model 2? (Thanks again, you've been an amazing help with all things Mega39s)
it works for even wii u controller, don't worry lol it will work
Get the charging joycon grip as then it becomes a wired grip
Hey hiso (or anybody) i have a question... I don't have a ps4 and, is there a problem if i need to charge the ds4 or does it stay charged with the adaptor being connected to the console? :(
Can't you turn down the sensibility from Controler settings? (From the main Switch settings)
me who just got a pro controller for pd:
Any advise to get better at this game? been playing for a wile and can get some extreme lvl 9 but not the 9.5 or 10 lmao
Practice mode on those parts you cant do and break it down
It takes time to learn as hiso said everyone takes a different amount of time to learn I been playing alittle over a year and I cant get the reverse 360s down yet on Intense Voice its alittle too fast of a swap for me
I actually tried to play it with a gamecube controller and it was the worst idea i had
I have pro controller and sucks for this game. I always use the hori where u can take off the left spas and use 4 buttons. The best one for me.
i use an xbox one controller for ft and its been fine?????
Do you know with that HORIpad, you can rip off the D-Pad and it becomes 4 buttons? Would like to see you try that out.
Yeah I did after, it's in the pinned comments my feedback
last time i was this early the video was premiering
The real question; will they eventually port these songs that aren't in Future Tone? I don't want to buy this on Switch only for it to have less songs than Future Tone, especially after I bought all the packs. I'd be willing to buy a Mega Mix pack, but not willing to do all that again on the Switch.
iirc they will. May be not the theme song one, that might be exclusive to the Switch game.
@@jingz6225
I sure hope so! If they do, I'll buy it instantly.
I think If enough people beg then yeah but ofc they will be dlc
How you get those aqua colored controllers?
It was wired to see him fail
What about Switch Mini?
After playing so much on Vita, I gonna use it a lot on my Switch Mini, then maybe it would be nice despite the Dpad buttons
How do i unlock co op mode
What's your opinion on playing the game in handheld mode?
Just realized, if you don’t wanna replace your Joycons then you can try the 8bitdo Lite lmao
HI IF YOU'RE READING THIS PLEASE HELP ME.
I'm buying a switch soon and don't know what controllers to get for mega 39s.
@@hisokeee aaaa i didn't actually expect a reply lol so thank you so much!! and keep up the great content too :)
It helps a ton when I was first starting out
I'm gonna buy a pro controller, but that's the best option/controller? I still don't knowing what's the best controller for Project Diva Mega39
if you have ps4 controller thats the best, I would buy the adapter I showed in my review + ds4 to play this game seriously
@@hisokeee Okai thanks!
its like... triggering u do the “triplets” at the end of intense voice like that. im pretty sure they are a continuous spam instead of triplets
Can you do better? Cause you can't switch fast enought to make it not look like triplets and it feels more natural as well
@@ded8491 i can actually :)
You can put ypur ps4 controller on switch ??? How ????
As he said in the video you buy a adapter. If you rewatch when he was doing the PS4 controller test it shows the adapter not the controller before he started the test
0:48 you're Canadian too????
Yeaaa vancouver
Yo what the FUCK is wrong with IVOHM's extreme chart
joy-con w/ no grip
grip w/ no grip
joy-con w/ grip w/ no joy-con
I have a PS4 controller with 8bitdo. Is it good enough?
the only downside I have heard with that adapter is it is bluetooth only, and compared to the one I have it allows usb option. As long you are not playing too far from the switch and you don't notice too much of a delay you should be good. I've had different opinions on it people complaining it drops inputs or adds too much delay to play seriously and other people saying its been fine for them
