- The KV-220 in War Thunder is one of those infamous tanks that no one likes to face on the battlefield. Now I own one, I can definitely say it lives up to its hype.
The KV220 houses an 85mm cannon that doesn't look great on paper of its Battle Rating but this thing can eat through angled armour like it's flat. You can kill a Jumbo by a single shot to the upper front plate and even if you get a slight glimpse of a Panthers side, it's all over for him!
The armour on this thing is INCREDIBLY strong. It has 100mm thick plate the entire way around the tank making it pretty much invulnerable when angled. The turret has one weakness and even then it will only take out the breach.
Overall the Russian KV-220 Heavy Tank is one of the best vehicles pound for pound at its BR. Almost nothing can stop it.

For a vehicle suggestion, have you tried the T32? It’s got 300mm on it’s turret, albeit at 7.3
Also, have you tried out Sprocket?
I got this tank out of a crate a couple of years ago, not knowing really what it was or why I'd ever want another KV tank variation when I had so many in the tech tree. I put it up in the marketplace for $179 USD and it sold in under 24 hours. I was luckily able to buy a lot of other cool stuff on the marketplace from that one tank sale, but I've been bummed ever since after I learned how monstrous that vehicle is.
Yeah its a lot of fun.

@@stevenortiz9008 if they were to raise it's br I can only see it going to 6.0 maybe 6.3 the highest as the T-44 is on par with firepower; ofc the KV-220 doesn't have the APCBC round
@@stevenortiz9008no it doesn't. i do agree it needs a nerf but just a tiny one to make it as good as a kv1 but slightly better gun and armour than the kv1. i say this because if your a good player the kv1 can be a very good heavy even bouncing german 75 sometimes and i think that makes it somewhat balanced.

@@ZETH_27 Yes that's true. But then for the sake of the challenge I would suggest that he picks one without a matched mg. It would be somewhat easy with a milktruck too, but more of a challenge without "cheating" like that.
Just over a year ago I got one of these in the very first WarThunder loot box I ever opened. I wasn't anywhere near 5.7 at the time so I asked Odd if it was worth hanging on to. He said he wished he had one - that was good enough for me! I've played one game in it and the experience was very much what we saw here, it's a monster. :)
how did you get KV 220 in a box, i had understanded that you were only able yo get it in the 2016 S.U.M.M.E.R. event
@@martiabellan696 I don't know what box it was, I seem to accumulate loads of them somehow. I got around to buying a key on the marketplace and opened one of them. I don't know how you get keys normally or if you even can?
@@martiabellan696 You can get it from usual crates each update gives. I got it from Ground breaking crate, which i had opened for very first time
since a lot of people have been playing the pt76 57 recently, and it can swim in water making it a boat, u should try to kill a pt76 57 with a torpedo as a challenge
And i got PTSD when I heard that name, today this "thing" ate 2 MILAN ATGMs to the turret and hull without it being overpreasured. Gaijin added set another "balanced" premium vehicles they are not gonna thouch because it was in the Battle pass.
And to be honest I would love to see Odd do this challange with swordfish like past time.
3 fuckers playing that piece of shit were spawn camping my whole team today, together they got almost 30 kills, it took us ages to kill them but then they would respawn with it again

haha, I remember when the Ka-Chi came out and everyone was spamming it. Made a challenge for myself to kill one with a torpedo and actually managed to. That was a lot of fun!
I think that trying to get a PT-76-57 with a torpedo is a great challenge idea :)
I think the KV-220 was initially introduced as event vehicle, at BR 5.3 (in ABGF, it has moved to 5.7 since). Therefore, for a time you would see them all over the place. But, because the only way to obtain one of these was through the event, only experienced players would have one. That made this already completely overpowered tank into a death sentence if you faced one (there were even full clan squads driving this disgusting thing!). There are very few tanks in this game that actually frighten me, and the KV-220 is the king of them all.
It's only saving grace really is the fact that the original generation that played this tank has either left the game or moved on to other tanks. The KV-220 I see nowadays came likely into the game through these box things and were sold over the market place. This means that pretty ordinary players, maybe even outright bad ones play the tanks mostly, and it is not the battle deciding factor it used to be. Thank the gods! The downside to this is though that these bad players screw up the statistics of this tank, with means it will likely never move up in BR as it should do 😑
It's one of the only event vehicles I missed out on getting along with the FJ-4B and honestly I hate myself for missing those events. Two of the three most OP event vehicles ever introduced (the Obj279 being the other, now no longer OP) and I missed them both.
@@JoviaI1 I would have loved to get my hands on the KV 🤓 I can not remember what the conditions of the event were or when it took place, but I guess it was too much. Back when I still played the events I usually got the first tank, which are sometimes great ones like the Pakwagen, but I almost never got to the second tank.

the changed pen for all shells back in 2020 i think ruined it,panthers are dealing with this tank easily now
the russian APHEBC as a whole is broken, likely from old damage/pen models. The game makes those shells normalize against angles in a manner more akin to APCBC ammo. But APCBC doesn't get the buff. The Soviet shell lacks a cap, which would actually help the normalization. To see this in game, compare the t34 85's ammo vs a Jumbo. The UFP has an effective thickness of 170 ish to the soviet APHE and all other APCBC shells. But with the soviet APHEBC the effective armor goes down to 120-135mm.
I know a lot of people joke around about “Russian bias” but… come on Gaijin, seriously?

This whole pen mechanics are rubbish , a simple steel plate can't change the effective thickness against different ammo types . Against AP rounds you got 400mm and against HEAT 200mm and the plate has real effective 220mm .
And it will never be fixed... The HE filler on them also does ridiculous stuff like kill people as far from the explosion as possible, it's almost always a one-shot even though they have less filler than some other rounds that perform worse.

I had this tank in world of tanks before they removed it from the tech tree years and years ago.
This video brought me nostalgia, it was my favorite tanks of which I played more than 4000 matches with.

I play the ARL-44 (ACL-1) a lot which when properly angled works very well. However it’s always a KV-1 or something like that that just magically grabs my side-armour and destroys my crew.

I'd love to see you try out full lineups, especially ones in a particularly weak spot atm, like british 2.7 which used to be great, but all the 2.7's have been moved to 3.0 and 3.3, and all the 2.3's that dont belong in 2.7 are now 2.7
for example, the crusader 2, matilda 2, valentine and 2 pounder bobble head (though the 3 inch gun carrier is 2.7 now and that belongs in 3.0, but its so shit that it doesnt matter)

British 2.7 was balanced, but because players were doing well (because Bri’ish players are good) they up-BR:d a lot of the vehicles into 3.0+ making the Valentine+Crusader lineup much less effective now that they faced KV-1s much more often.
AC 1 is now in the lineup if you got at least 5 stars.
British 2.7 is excellent in my experience so I'm not sure why you'd think it's in a weak spot. the Matilda II is great, the Valentine I and XI are good and the SARC 2pdr is fun aswell, plus with the event vehicles like the Matilda Hedgehog and AC.1 it's even more fun.

This thing was originally at 5.3 on release. Absolute menace.
It took me a long time to work out why a lot of shots never made a difference when hitting a tank but it was nice to know it was not because of my lack of skill to know where to shoot but at no point was i ever going to get the tank kill because of "pay to win".
I think they only made something like 1500 tiger 1s in real life, I feel like I saw more than that destroyed in this video! 😂

I've only seen about 4 of these in my WT career. 1 got killed by someone else, 3 I shot in the side. Seeing people struggle against it kinda makes me happy I never faced one head-on so far

Panthers easily easily deal with it and so do VFWs, Waffenträgers etc. Its a trolly tank, yes but 6.7!? It would be completely useless there. I feel like you think the T-44 belongs at 6.7 as well🤨

Use the BV 138s 20 mil turret cannons to kill enemy tanks. It is difficult but possible, I find that using it as an AC 130 and circling above an enemy you can kill it with the ap belts
This thing is essentially a Russian Tiger with better armor because of its angles. Its just a monster. I played this thing in its hay-day when it first came out. It was insane.
The only time I managed to kill this tank was when I shot its mountlet with M4A1(76)W and it bounced inside. But I normally just run when I see it :D

I've only fought one once. He was all bushes up and had a EBR helping him. I almost got all of his crew but the EBR bailed him out when I pushed him. It was a big change even in a 76mm Jumbo
This tank is magnificent but I have zero respect for anyone who covers it in bushes.

I played on a friends account for the past two weeks and he had a nasty 9.7 US lineup, and I fell in love with the M60 AMBT. I want it so badly but it’s $400 on the market 😂 I tried my luck with 50$ worth of trophies but no luck. I got the VK 45.01 at least so it wasn’t a total bust
You’re very lucky even getting a vehicle because I’ve used well over 30k in GE and still only gotten 6 rares and nothing but commons

You know i also paid 150 dollars for that thing but i have to say even for it being nerfed slightly it still the best 5.7 tank i played in years i got it last night and i was getting more then 7 kills pergame with the thing its still a very op tank and i am very happy i got it because i have been wanting that thing beside by Russian TV panther for awhile

The look of this tank reminds me of the alt form of the old transformer warpath. even if I believe he was supposed to be an M551A1 sheridan

i like the KV-220, its a rare vehicle, not many people ever faced it, possible that even some Veterans never saw it.
overall quite fun to play, unless you face some HEAT slinger.

M24 but in reverse the entire time.. it's at least quick and wouldn't be too detrimental to the team unlike doing the maus entirely in reverse
I don't know why I've had such a unique experience with the KV-220. I don't think I've ever been killed by one, and whenever I see one, I've been in the perfect position to kill it. Latest one was with an IS-2 maybe a week ago, he fucked up a shot and I just hit him right in the flat part below the gun and blew him to outer space.

APCR challenge - play anything 6.7 or higher with an APCR round and only use APCR and go for an ace. The M48 is a good example, but you could use the T26E5 or the T34 or any country's APCR rounds.
ramming people isn’t always bad It gives them a speed boost. I try to do it for the slow heavies to get them closer than the enemy would expect.
You can’t push a tank faster if it is heavier than you. That’s the games logic. You can push a lighter tank than you faster, though.

It would be cool to see you bomber hunt in the ki-109 with the 75mil HE ammo. I find it to be a bit fun to obliterate bombers by just hitting the tip of their wing and commit a war crime on the poor fighters i hit with it.
I bought the P-59 when it was pretty cheap. Now its almost 120 euros last time i checked.

I'm sure you can do it. I received the plane as a gift and had fun collecting points at 3.0 in the 1.3 mini beast. I used bushes to be extra sneaky.

I'd love to see you just try and max kills with something basic. Specifically, a centurian 5-1 or strv 81. Basically 'cause i suck at them and would love to see someone good play them for inspiration. Or the italian m60. They're all kinda in the same ballpark and I am terrible with all of them.

I miraculously got the kv220b off a crate and I don't play Russian so I had to scrap it
It also has good camo you basically look like a old rusted tank that's just there for extra decoration of the map
