    Great job, very educational to someone like me who knew nothing about shoe care before I watched one of your videos. You are clearly a craftsman of great skill and justifiable pride in your handiwork. Thank you for sharing.

    Hey Doc, A great video and a well explained method I think I would like to work on a pair of shoes that I thrifted, where can I get a brush like yours

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use e.l.f. makeup brushes. The foundation brush is around $2.00 on Amazon and Target etc. I also use the eyeshadow brush for some shading sometimes. They are cheap and work better than the craft store artist brushes I've tried. Good luck on your project 💪👍

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't have a favorite brand of dye. Sometimes I just use what I have available and sometimes the color I want is made by a different company. I really like some of the light Fiebings for a base coat like beige and buckskin. I haven't found such a base color from another maker. But the fiebings dark brown looks just like their mid brown to me. It has too much red and not dark enough. I like Angelus dark brown better. I have had no issue mixing brands like this. I hope that answers your question.

    Great video! If you can add the tools and materials you used in your video would be great.

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought I did mention all materials used. I started with isopropyl alcohol to strip any wax off the surface, then Fiebing light brown dye, then Saphir havana dye, wipe down with Venetian Shoe Cream, and finish with Saphir Pate De Luxe wax and Saphir neutral Mirror gloss. I believe I even mentioned the cloths were from Mr. Renworks on IG and Hangerproject high shine chamois. The only thing I failed to mention was the brush perhaps which is actually an E.L.F. foundation makeup brush. Hope that helps.

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh forgot Fiebing yellow only on the belt to help its tone match.

    great job!, I have a pair of A E Merlot Mcllisters that I want to do some patina to them what colors do you recommend since the merlot is kind o dark to lightened the shoe and start fresh

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you will have to stay in the red family as these won't lighten to tan. However the merlot is fairly dark and could be a more vibrant color by lightening the overall shoe and then adding contrast with black if you want a burnished toe and to accentuate the broguing. I just finished a museum style patina on a Burgundy Carmina and will post the video this weekend. That may give some inspiration too.

    Have you considered using Cobblers Choice or Bick-4 to moisturize after dyeing? I think it might preserve the color a little more. Not a criticism because your work is fantastic!

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't but definitely would like to try Bick 4. I don't really feel that Venetian shoe cream or Renovateur harm the color any. They will pull off any surface dye that didn't absorb but Bick 4 should do the same. I know Bick 4 isn't supposed to darken the leather but in this case it will be dried from stripping and dyeing so even with Bick 4 it should darken a touch from rehydration. I'll get some soon...almost out of VSC.

    • @anangelshero0410
      @anangelshero0410 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mbshoedoc Stridewise reviewed 5 conditioners and had high praise for Cobblers Choice. I just completed my first patina and I liked the Bick4. I used just my fingers and didn't see any pull, but next time I'll use a t-shirt. Thanks again for sharing.

    Hey! I was thinking of dyeing a belt. However, I am afraid of color transfert to my pants or jackets. Is Renovateur or Bick 4 enough to lock in the color?

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have many custom shoes and belts both. I have never seen any dye transfer from either. After dyeing the belts I do wipe them down with a conditioner like you said to remove any surface dye. Then I go over the entire thing with neutral wax to further seal it.

  • @matthewmilantoni3961
    @matthewmilantoni3961 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    16:30 after dying is that just a plain neutral cream?

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I was usingng Saphir renovateur I think on these. I use that, venetian shoe cream and Bick 4 all in neutral to recondition after the dye work.

    • @mbshoedoc
      @mbshoedoc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is but I really like it. I also think that when worn they are separated enough so its no overwhelming. I love the Manistee belt so much I got one in walnut, brown and merlot. I wear it with all my brogues and use a smooth calf skin belt with cap toe oxfords, wholecuts and monkstraps.
