Sinn Fein's Martina Anderson tops polls in first round of counting

Sinn Fein's Martina Anderson (pictured), the DUP's Diane Dodds and the cross-community Alliance Party's Naomi Long are set to fill Northern Ireland's three seats. The results mean that Northern Ireland, which voted 56 per cent Remain in the 2016 referendum, is now on course to return two Remain supporting MEPs and one Brexiteer. Sinn Fein's Mrs Anderson topped the poll with 126,951, votes, while the DUP's outgoing MEP Ms Dodds registered 124,991 first preferences under the single transferable vote system.
