  • The favourite in the Conservative leadership race is in the Daily T studio for a cuppa, in our fifth and final interview with the remaining candidates.
In this frank conversation, shadow housing minister Kemi Badenoch takes aim at her rival Robert Jenrick over his migration promises, addresses claims she’s too inexperienced to lead, and reveals her little-known talent for poker.

I hate listening to politicians interview because they always answer a different question than what they ask them.... but Kemi always go straight to the point and doesn't twist here words. Kemi gives me hope of a future for the UK, a future Conservative winning Government, Conservative views & values & the Conservative Parties future. ‘But’, the way Conservative MP’s of recent years have been self destructive to the cause of Conservatism, makes me fear, the current cohort continues this inner self destruction & not allow the Conservative Party to decide themselves between Kemi & another candidate. If we put this amazing articulate young lady ‘in-charge’ of the Conservative Party, the Conservatives have a real chance of winning at the next general election, as already the smoke screen is clearing away from the Labour management of Governance. To do this we need strong, decisive, yet reflective investigative belief based leadership to deal with problems effecting the UK & Kemi is the ONLY candidate evidencing these qualities. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE allow the Party to have the ability to vote for this brave courageous woman.

I agreed with every word that Kemi said there. However Kemi is not the Conservative Party. Being a life long Conservative voter I switched to Reform at the last election. Even if Kemi is elected leader I don’t think that I could trust the party again, how long would it be before she was brought down by internal rivalry? Reform appears much more aligned in terms of its policy thinking, there is no “wet” or “europhile” wing waiting for a chance to reassert itself.

Kemi has referred to herself as Nigerian, has lobbied for higher levels of Nigerian immigration and grew up in Nigeria. She said that she would work for the interests of Nigeria if British Nigerians voted for her.
Kemi knows she has no chance of implementing any of the things she says.
There are 5 Kemi's in the Tory party and 100 Caroline Nokes’s; the Carline Nokes’s in that party, will always win out, even if Kemi was the leader and Kemi KNOWS this, so she is being disingenuous with conservative voters.
Kemi just wants to lead the Tories, as part of some childhood dream. I applaud her dedication but being rude to Nigel, was a sign of who she really is and shocked those who were there.
To me she’s a Kamala Harris figure. One day she's a Nigerian, the next an ‘upper class English women’. One day she’s lobbying for Nigerians for votes, the next the British.

Charismatic, intelligent, erudite... but wise? She's too much on the culture wars stuff for starters. Okay yes, it plays well with the handful of Tory members that are sticking with the party and will win her the leadership, of that I am sure. But the broader electorate? Forget it. The ECHR? Okay, even Tugendhat, (the person I suspect Gove would support if he thought he could win), has come out with leaving a distinct possibility on his watch even though he's wise enough to know it's a daft idea. Belarus, Russia, UK... not an attractive club. But Badenoch is one of the true believers. Again... great with the Tory membership, but not credible for most of the country. So, I think she will win then, having won, will get. Precisely. Nowhere with the broader electorate. The Tories will spend the next few years sinking deeper into the mire under her leadership, then the persons in grey formal clothing will make sure there's another leadership contest which, if they have their way, will circumvent the nutjobs that are the Tory membership. But while those who elected Liz Truss to be our Prime Minister continue to have the final say there will be no sense whatsoever coming out of the Tory Party as an electoral force. I would put money on Badenoch winning as a transitional leader this round. But taking the Tories into 2029? I'm going to suggest someone not on anyone's radar. Alicia Kearns.

The Labour party literally fought a culture war in the 2000s they simply disguised it as "reforms" that simultaneously miraculously reengineered the way Britain thinks.
