    When I was 13 I didn't have the money to go see Maiden live, so my friends and I went to a fortress wall outside the venue to watch them play. The only sound I could hear clearly was the monstrous clang of Steve's bass rig. A fond memory to this day

    • @belasgirl6
      @belasgirl6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      That's a wonderful memory! I was 13 when I got Live After Death on cassette tape. I wore it out on a Sony Walkman. We had one rock station, every night about 12am, they would play 2 Minutes to Midnight, I would wait every night for them to play, I was 13. I did not get to see them live until I was 19. Good times

    There are a lot of missing pieces in this interview. I will try to explain as much as I understand: All the oldschool rack units (dbx, Aphex, 81 preamp etc.) are actually for Steve's onstage sound (for his hearing). So the Marshall cabs on stage are not actually miked. He says they send DI and Tech 21 signals to FOH. So the sound the audience hears may actually be a blend of these two: To elaborate a bit more, the FOH engineer applies a hi-cut filter to the DI signal to fill in the low-end and the Tech 21 gives Steve's characteristic ding ding tone. I don't understand what the Kemper is there for, though. Because he says he uses GK units as a backup rig.
    Thanks for the rundown!

    We play a few maiden numbers in our set and I use his preamp.pedal and it's really good at replicating his sound using a P bass with his massive flat wounds. Interested to know what you use the Kempers for?

    Oh man, when Steve eventually stops playing, how nice it would be to have his speakers in my living...

    Very informative i wish acdc would do things like this go back stage and meet the crew they dont get the recognition they all deserve the hours they put in all men and women working the sacrifices they make its not a 9 to 5 job. Very very long hard working crew. I really hope the long term crew really do get a bonus and able to take some time off and spend it with families. I hope that the crew iron maiden crew are looked after i know they really do work such long hours

    I'm seriously thinking of buying one of those Tech21s as a DI.
    It's a toss-up between the classic SansAmp, Steve's or Geddy Lee's signature model.

    I wish someone would film Steve's right-hand at 1000fps so that I can just properly witness it at work.
