Canon T2i is canon 550D its an APS-C Sensor which is 1.6 Times Cropping.that makes 17mm is 28mm on 1.6Times cropped sensor! For (only) canon 5D and 1D its 17mm

i edit on premiere pro cs5 i generally film in 720p but i filmed this in 1080p so i dont have the setting i used. not sure about quality wise, but i film in 720p all the time and it looks fine.

havent used the 17-40L, however, any L lens will blow the EF-s kit lenses out of the water, they arent called L series for nothing :D i myself and torn between the 17-40L or save a lil bit and get the 24-105L with image stabilisation :)
