I think what you're saying is purely your opinion and you shouldn't force me to it. And this is also my opinion so whether you agree or disagree with it is not my problem anymore but yours. Argument aside I respect whatever your point of view is. HAGD :)

      @nekogorgontheomnipurrtent4145 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @Josip Lots of strawman arguments buddy. Eloquence doesn't make you immune to your apparent cognitive disability. Multiple women just provided you with actual information on their opinion. What they said can perfectly co-exist and doesn't necessarily contradict any of the "science" you mentioned at all which, by the way, you are only cherrypicking with confirmation bias. As women and individuals, they might be, but also aren't wholly, representative of their gender at large. So it might be wise and actually more scientific to fucking listen to an actual person of the gender you're trying to impress, and not form her opinion for her because she is entirely capable of doing so herself. Since you are not a woman, you have no authority or insight into what any given woman in front of you actually thinks, feels, or finds attractive, regardless of whatever empirical 'evidence' or psychology statistic you pull from elsewhere. If you were actually concerned with real science instead of cherrypicking incel-bait to accomodate your skewed views, you would realize that when dealing with individual cases (which is always when dealing with another human being - you know, there's a reason people are called individuals and yes that includes women) you shouldn't lump all women in the same boat based on statistics and start thinking about them as actual persons with actual emotions, opinions and preferences, just like you have yourself. Once you succeed at that then perhaps you might be able to grow into a mindset which allows you to not generalize an entire gender, and have an actual back-and-forth conversation with someone (instead of holding reactionary monologues where you constantly go against whatever your conversational partner is actually saying without even trying to consider their point of view) because you're honestly just being pitiful, bitter, and needlessly dismissive. Not very sexy qualities indeed because you're just being self-absorbed in giving in to your own prejudice, unwilling to step out of the train of thought you've grown accustomed to, which is inattentive to the other person. If you're going to confidently be a misogynistic asshole than yeah, good luck with impressing any woman with 'confidence'. In the meantime, lots of women are indeed attracted to confidence and positivity which you, entirely regardless of how you look, simply fail to provide. Dickweed.

    Great video! Thank you.
    Here is summary:
    1. We hold back from opportunities in which there is any risk of ending up looking ridiculous.
    In a concerted bid never to look foolish, we don't venture very far from our cocoon.
    2. Everyone, however important and learned they might be, is a fool.
    3. Once we learn to see ourselves as already, and by nature, foolish, it doesn't matter to us if we do one more thing that might make us look stupid.

    Embarrassed? Try to think like this:
    1. If you are feeling down about something that makes you think “What will he/she/they think of me now?” try to calm yourself down and understand that you cannot know what others are thinking. It is IMPOSSIBLE!!! There is a good chance other people don’t think about you or what you said or did that you find embarrassing AT ALL - they have probably forgotten it already! So cheer up and move on :)
    2. If you are in a situation where you are trying to prove yourself and it ends up showing your weakness instead, remember the message of the video: EVERYONE is like this! We are all both strong AND weak at times, and showing your weakness is nothing bad, it is a proof that you are human and not alien (which is a good thing, assuming you don’t want to be an alien of course)!
    3. If you made people laugh at you for some reason, don’t feel sad about it. Think about how at least you made them happy! And if you hate these people that laughed at you, you shouldn’t even bother, because you don’t want their approval anyway. And I bet you can find lots of stuff about them to ROFL about!
    4. If someone have spoken ill of you or one of your character traits, remember that either the person was right and you can learn from the critique OR the person wasn’t right and in that case, what the hell, there’s nothing to be sad about! You shouldn’t feel embarrassed about something that isn’t true! So stay strong and keep being brave

      Yah I like this a lot! With your first point, though, I think you can go even further. Instead of thinking "they probably don't even think that about me," it's even better to not even value others' opinions in the first place. The only opinion to listen to is your own, and how you act authentically (without deceiving them and pretending) is the best you can do. Accepting that mistakes will be made, but making the conviction that you'll always tell the truth, i.e. be authentic, makes you immune from the opinions of others and allows you to improve.

Did I just think about what others would think? Oh I've gotta do it now. I'm afraid of oral exams and the teachers are really mean and Idk enough. Still going cause who cares? What's the worst than can happen? I already know that I suck" (btw Passed all of them 💪🏻)
    And it gets so addiciting! for some reason it just made me more and more confident! A lot of my friends started seeing a side of me they didn't know and they praised me for it! When in fact I'm just being myself with no fears of ridiculousness. I already know 2017s gonna be life changing 👀

    Good reminder that we're all in the same boat; but for those who have low self-esteem (exhibited in lack of self-confidence) negative self-talk is not a great piece of advice. Calling oneself a cretin, nitwit or otherwise is counter-productive. Try some positive affirmations in the morning, instead!

      I'm drawing the line at self-esteem issues; if you have them, you're not likely to suffer from a feeling of self-importance - just the opposite, in fact. Generally, the message "we're all going to look like fools sometimes" is a good one; but they went a bit overboard with the reco for negative self-talk. It's just not helpful.

      I love being average! If I don't try my very very best, I'm painfully, painfully average. And that's great, being average is a great place to be. Being average keeps me humble and down to earth and makes me ambitious and terrified of failure. There's no other way to boost my own productivity than to remind myself of how average I am. Because average people have to put in work to reach their goals, they're not naturally gifted so they get nothing for free. And whenever I think I've progressed past being average, there's another - higher - goal to reach and another score to settle and I'm back to being average.

    • @rachelkarengreen99
      @rachelkarengreen99 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @Hal - It's what the video says at the beginning, the common thing people (and motivational videos) tell you is to just push through challenges like speaking on stage (the example in the beginning) by thinking of what matters to you, maybe encouraging yourself or pumping yourself up. But this video is saying this can lead to other problems and not be a healthy response to the original problem, which is the anxiety. It's better to understand the true nature of the situation and the root of the feeling, which arises from you not wanting to make a mistake because you think that other people in your situation would not make the same mistake. But reality is that they do. Noone is perfect and everyone is a fool. So it makes little sense in being afraid of making mistakes. So say, "it's okay if I make a mistake" instead of "you can do this, you're going to rock it".

      the point though, is to get comfortable with your failures and awkward moments so as to not let them hinder your attempts at improvement. Then you will have less to lose and more to gain by trying. Don't see yourself as a fool compared to everyone else, but as a fool because everyone is a fool. This will guard you against the prejudices of those who look down on you.

      So I’ve felt both ways about this and I’ll just give thoughts on what changed for me and made me fine with it. I can’t speak for anyone else...
      When I start talking down to myself for making a mistake or not doing something quick enough or whatever reason...It’s because I’m frustrated or somehow dissatisfied with myself - and usually a lot.
      This isn’t that. First, I think it was my intent that hurt me and my potential. I’ll similarly at times now think myself a doofus - the difference is the intent, I’m usually chuckling to myself if I’m thinking like that now.
      I think what this video says to frustrated me is: if I’m a fool for making that common mistake that everyone makes, then everyone is a fool. That was enough for me to realize my self sabotage. I did realize this a few years back (again!! I was hard on myself in my early 30’s) and a lot of the negative intent behind what I thought or said about myself went right out the window.
      So while I agree if we’re calling ourselves fools out of frustration or failing in some way, and the intent is negative it’s no good...the video for me is just one out of several possible techniques to change and improve the mindset that leads me to have that negative intent toward myself.

    I don't consider myself an idiot or a cretin (I state confidently hehe) but like everyone I do stupid things all the time out of just human error which I know in my head is a universal thing. Nobody's perfect. Just imagine, even the Queen must sit on the toilet and take a poo. Well maybe don't imagine the act itself but the idea is enough to make me laugh and forget about my own foolish pride and self imposed dignity. Being able to laugh at ones self is more important than most people realise.
    Also what this video didn't point out is the fact that no matter how "cool" we all will die one day, so why care so much about what others think about us. Plus confidence is extremely sexy :)

    I think it's fantastic advice, too often do you see people unwilling to communicate or participate due to fear of embarrassment. We're all people yet we tend to place worth on a phantasmagorical image of ourselves, then in a circumstance where this image is contradicted we shame ourselves for not living up to the expectations set in our head. Simply allowing yourself to not take yourself too seriously allows you to take the stress off and grants you more freedom to express yourself honestly, then in the circumstance where you fail you have the option to laugh and learn from the experience instead of loathing it. Reminding yourself that you have an inkling of foolishness inside of you helps in appreciating the absurdity of the world, turning a hard situation into a joke that everyone's taking part in.

  • @sharrk_34
    @sharrk_34 7 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    This is spot on. To go a step further, it's important that we also become intimate with the accompanying emotions. When we do experience an embarrassing moment, it's important to be mindful of our emotions at the precise moment it happens. A burning shame will come up. With practice, we learn to see that it is just an emotion. Accepting that we are inherently screw ups AND that shame will arise when we do screw up AND that it's perfectly ok is all we need to rise above our limits.

    I remember a quote and try to always remember it when I’m embarrassed or anxious about something it’s simply “Others opinion about you is none of your business.” It shouldn’t matter what they think about you cause you’re you and no one else will ever be like you, it’s quite amazing really.

    This is advice I wish I knew 10-15 years ago when I was still in my early 20’s. The difficulty I found is growing up with not much money, makes you risk averse sometimes. Easier to take risks and fall on your ass when there’s a safety net. Or a parent that’s says don’t worry. I didn’t feel I had much of that!

    Of all the “alpha male” strategies and TH-cam videos on confidence this makes the most sense. I finally don’t have to learn how to bungee jump with a specific lotion and cologne from an airplane while going to the gym to be a confident guy
