One thing to remember in the tactical overview is that the midfield has to fit within the front 5. While I like a BBM/CM in theory, it has to be paired with wingers wide. If the wingers want to come inside, you've reduced the space for all players and weakened yourself in rest defense. For me, if I'm gonna use a BBM, it's going to be with either an RPM or a DLP(S) next to him, which will allow my fullbacks and wingers into the front 5 instead.
It's great how you describe each role so comprehensively. The problem with FM's own in-game descriptions with roles is that they don't give a good explanation how different roles work in different phases of the game. For example midfielders are practically completely missing the part how each role participate in the defensive part of the game, when the team is out of position. This makes it difficult for seasoned players like me for example to pick up roles even for a double pivot as I want my double pivot to work well especially in terms of protecting the defensive line. With FMs own information it's more of a guessing game and trying things out instead of immediately knowing how the roles are supposed to work.
Yea I agree, and that was kinda the goal with these videos. I get why SI does it; they make them a little more obtuse in the description so we don't know *exactly* what they do, but for us as the players it can be difficult to figure out exactly what they do lol
This was so calming and educational to watch. Amazing content. Please do as many guides as you can. Describing all the roles and the way they change based on their duties, describing all the team instructions as well the player instructions, and describing attributes as well. Now I'm gonna watch your other videos (NOTIFICATIONS: ON).
thank you so much for the kind words and I'm really glad the videos are helping! It's been a balance for me to make the guides in a (somewhat) fast matter, while still giving each role a worthy video!
You're welcome mate. I absolutely love this style of content, it's both calming and educational, also, high-quality. Slow tempo, deep analysis, just perfect. Forget the trend of fast-paced content, just do what you're awesome at ♥@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
Box to box midfielder are my fav midfielders, play him with deep lying playmaker are my fav tactics, box to box will score when i needed the goals to sometimes
INCREDIBLE WORK! Love the way you break everything down with the role, give examples, and even tips. Reminds me a lot of my Tactic school videos where I utilize data to showcase the roles. Love the work you are doing my man! Keep it up, you have a new sub in me sir :) P.S. great to see another North American in the FM community!
Awesome reply thank you for the compliments!! Checked out your channel and love your video ideas and subscribed! And us NA guys got to stick together XD
Feels like this could be the next big channel in the scene unbelievable 3 videos to just start. I mean I dont know if you’re inspired by TIFO in your delivery but this is like FM X TIFO X Jazz fusion Love it
Look how balanced your tactic is! I love this approach. Keep them coming! PS: I'm not asking to do this right away, but in the future (and if you can) I would love your explanation of mentalities. It doesn't matter how much I read and how long I test them in-game, I can't tell how to use them, if I should cange them mid game or etc.
Glad you liked it!! Always love a good balanced tactic haha. And thanks for the recommendation; I'll see if I can start implementing that in the upcoming videos
Love the aesthetic of the channel dude. Cool to see another American in the creator space for FM too! Its crazy you are doing a CPL save too, I run an online league of 8 users on twitch in it. Its such a fun league.
Thank you for the kind words!! And I grew up in the late 80s/early 90s so this aesthetic is very familiar to me hahaha. And I love the CPL; my favorite part is that the teams are so new it's a great chance to write your own history with them
I watched this a couple of times but I'm not sure I understand what it does compared to a CM on support. On paper I used to love this role because it reminds me of the childhood classics like Roy Keane, Gerrard, Lampard, Vieira who do everything. But in practice I can't get it to work too well and tend to move to CMS if I need a support role, just seems to do the support thing better and play more reliable.
Hi DLP! Thanks for posting such awesome videos in such high quality! I fell in love with your channel and subscribed after watching all of your videos! I am a Moderator of an FM Group on Facebook and my gimmick per se, is that I give both the No-Nonsense Centre-Back and No-Nonsense Full-Back-Defend a hard time because I feel those roles are worthless, and I've never had success using them, even on lower league saves! It would be hugely appreciated if you could do a breakdown on those two roles and hopefully convince me to give those roles another go in my tactics. All the best, and I hope your channel becomes one of the most renowned FM channels on TH-cam 😊
haha that's awesome!! I don't know if the no-nonsense roles are on the schedule for the upcoming videos, but they are on my radar if it helps lol. I'll see if I can find a way to get them to be productive haha, though I do love that their name tells you exactly how they're going to play. And thank you for the comments! Glad you're enjoying the channel
Another great video. I was using a B2B for a while, but he wasn't getting involved enough so I swapped to a CM-A and I made my DM more defensive. I do like the role though
I know I say a lot of roles are underrated, by the CM(A) is maybe the most underrated haha. My favorite role in the game (well right behind the DLP lol)
what a coincidence i was playing with almost the same tactic that you're using in this video, a little bit different like sk(s) instead of G, one bpd on the right, and using a false9 intead of dlf(s) (i know f9 is more inconsistent compared to dlf(s) but i'm still trying so hard to make f9 good as a single striker since it's my favorite role because of my idol bobby firmino lol). on the midfield i was using carrilero before but i realise when iwb go to the midfield and anchor move to the other side, the anchor sit too close with the carrilero so i'm planning to change it to cm(s) or b2b. and it seems i already find the answer in this vid thanks 😂
The Carrilero can be tricky some times; cause like you say they can be in the way of other roles. And I love the F9 too. I usually use a Mezzala with it and can get some good results
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker yeah sometimes i switch the cm(a) to mez(a) if the cm can't score in that game so mez goes to the wider areas and give the f9 more space in the middle. I start with cm(a) so he can focus on the mid area to make the run
hi dlp, there is one interesting thing that i saw in some of your videos. Why did you change the color of the player attributes to be the same? and one more thing, your videos really help me to play fm better and make me more enthusiastic to make my own tactics rather than using other people's tactics. thank you very much. (sorry for my bad english and love from indonesia)
hey there! and thank you my friend! Really happy that these videos have helped start to create your own tactics 🙌 And for the attribute colors, I think I was trying out something new at the time. I was using faded colors instead of bright colors, and I think the video process made them look the same.
great video as always! your midfield combinations are excellent and well balanced. but wouldn't combinations like cm(a) - mez(s) - dlp (d) and cm(a) - b2b(s) - a(d) leave your midfield exposed, since 2 of those 3 roles come with the 'roam from position' instruction? especially on the higher levels where other teams can overrun your midfield, would one anchor or a dlp(d) be enough to hold the midfield on his own? i realize that mez(s) will track back to some extent, but he'd still be roaming. really wondering your thoughts on that, thanks!
Great points and I love the thought process!! Some of those trio combinations have the potential to leave your midfield exposed (a CM(A), Mez, DLP) but this is where your other player roles are factored in. An Inverted Wing Back for example excels at providing another player in the midfield. A Libero does this job as well, giving you a center back in defense and a midfielder in your attack. Or as you reference the Inverted Full Back to give you a back-3. So you can always balance out more attacking parts of your tactic with more defensive ones elsewhere. In the tactic from this video for example, a B2B midfielder and a CM(A) have the risk of being caught up the field if we lose the ball. But the IWB will sit in the midfield with the Anchor to still give me two midfielders. Hope that helps!
I have a midfield setup of regista, mezzala (su) and box2box in my Soton save. so far I've won 1-0 against United and kept a CS in a draw against Milan.... wondering if it's necessary to tweak the role my Mez and change regista completely. Wdyt?
hey if it's working keep it rolling haha. what's the striker you're running? You could try a mezzala (a) and then a central midfielder (s) to give you a little more attacking threat while having the other midfielder less of a "roam from position" role. That's only if you feel you're not getting enough quality shots. As you get a few more matches, you can always check your xG versus your opponent's xG to see if you're getting enough quality shots
Basically their aggressiveness. The segundo volante will get into the penalty area and can be a primary attacking threat, the box to box will usually just hang out around the outside of the penalty area

Doesn’t necessarily need to be a 5 lol can be 6 attacking too
