Comparing people like govan or petrucci to sayce is absurd, philip didn't base his career around shredding, he's a songwriter who can play fantastic blues with a great tone and attitude, i also think his singing voice is great.
wait a minute though LOL...Govan and Petrucci are great song writers too! I mean Petrucci writes deep lyrics and plays more than just blues pentatonic scales or common blues progressions. Does that make him a souless player? NO. This guy is good, he's amazing and I love his tone, but just because other players are a lot more advanced or technical doesnt mean they dont play with feel. to be fair, there are players who just sound like typewriters and have no good tone whatsoever. Ian Moore is another modern blues player who never really got noticed and he is a superb player/singer/songwriter who did more than just the common blues thang...
shredders can not play like this guy... I mean to produce nice sound in that field, with this tone and attitude... people are confused about what technical skills are, It is not only scale patterns and fast arpeggios.
You need great skills to play this kind of music, i'm new in to the blues and is a different world. I was used to to play metal, hardcore and shrdng solos.
Petrucci sounds like a typewriter to me, the best of the typewriter guitarists, but even then I'd rather hear Paul Gilbert do that. Or Shawn Lane who could do it all. Or we can just put this tired 90's debate over Soul vs Shred to bed... Because Eric 'fucking' Gales is the one true king of guitar playing on this planet right now. And I defy anyone to listen to and afternoon of live footage on here and come away disagreeing.
This is the only performance I saw in my whole life that can equals the ones of Jimi. He really understood how to play and sound like him, even if I guess he does his own thing. Awesome!
Pre-ordered straight away after I got the mail this new album was coming out! Everything this lady does is just great. In recent months I ordered some last missing cd's and got a few signed things from Carline. She's a beautiful person making beautiful music. Can't wait to immerse myself in the new album.
Spanking the guitar strings with his chord, is original, and now stained in my memory forever:) I enjoyed this performance, I love the atmosphere the song gets in the middle after the peak of the chorus, some bluesy stuff! :)
He reps strait blues. its not metal its not fusion its not neoclassical. Uninhibited by any other style and its beautiful to see someone just play blues everything he needs is right there!!!!!
Philip saved up and bought "Mother" , that guitar, while just out of high school while he was on tour with the late, great Jeff Healey. It's been with him and on tour ever since. That's a real relic, 1963 Strat and all the wear is from him. You can see it in his early days with Jeff still in good shape. In person the wood is actually scooped away from his aggressive playing above the pickguard. He sweats a lot too, so a nitro finish will quickly wear away like Rory Gallagers did.
n ill be real with everyone, im also a die hard jimi n srv fan, but just listening to sayce n the things the guy can do on the guitar n also as a fellow guitarist myself, i have to admit this guy has gotten to the point where his skill probably surpasses them both, the man takes what they gave him n continues where they left off, only the true musicians will understand what im talking about.
His light does not shine brighter then srv or jimi. It's notes it's passion technique all of it. Musicians have conveyed this before jimi srv sayce. Phil can flat out bring it all. No better,no less then other caliber players. Phil is awesome! Coltrane brought it just as hard, fast, dynamically. I don't care blues, country , classical. Whatever. These types have the musical capacity to give you everything they have leaning on every note. Again Phil is in this class. There's no way he recreated this level of playing . Added his flavor to the musical soup sure. It's welcomed . Beautiful, free players. Blah blah blah. Be well brother! Keep bringing your soul to the mix!
i dont know y everyone gets all pissed off because he sounds like hendrix or srv, im also a musician myself n one thing u cannot avoid is sounding like ur influences, they will ALWAYS pour out in ur playing, so y doesnt everyone just enjoy the music n the fact that he also loves hendrix n srv n keeps em alive in todays music.
Philip rocks! I love his records and live performances. And stop comparing with Hendrix and SRV. He is so totally different. Style of his own. And Yngwie.... nah, he had his time.
man i love phillips guitar work.. i remember i saw him a while back and got the chance to sit and talk to him.. i remember i could barely mumble cause just being around him is like "whoa" seeing as how he's 6'3 an amazing guitarist and unimaginably nice.. its one of those weird occasions where you have to punch your self in the chest to make sure your not goin gay like when jamie fox met prince.. if youve ever met phillip and your male you'll know what i mean..
Lets go with Guthrie Govan's wise words: there are guitarists who are amazing players (like Philip Sayce), there are guitarists that are so amazing and unique they change the way of music ( like SRV, EVH, Jimi and yes...Yngwie) , and then there are these guitarists that push the instrument so damn far nobody gets em (i.e. Bumblefoot).
Of all the guys and gals copping SRV tone…Sayce is doing it the best…and he’s still young. Lots of room to expand and I’m sure there’s more to his playing. But let’s face it, the shadow of SRV looms large for many players. Stevie inspired and still inspires people to play with passsion and soul.
This guys is OBVIOUSLY a great player. Guitar riffs are all stolen from everybody else, guaranteed SRV even Hendrix got riffs from some poor unknown guitarist somwhere. Why can u people jsut appreciate the skills instead of doggin the man. Like someone else said ther not much more you can do!
We can always make jokes about Yngwie (sometimes I like to as well), but I think it wouldn't be untrue to say that Philip Sayce reminds Yngwie of himself in his younger years... They're both incredible players in their own territories.
Yngwie was and is a great great showman and player...he changed the game. Wish he would have gotten in a better band for his talent than Alcatraz...phillip is cool i like him. But he will never move the needle like Yngwie
MrCalifornia0 no a lot of his playing is around jimi and his songs have a lot of similarities with Lenny kravitz The only time he somewhat sounds like srv is when he plays some laid back blues when he lays into it he sounds like himself nobody else
yes my friend, you are right, his skill/technique is maybe sharper, tho stevie fans would probably disagree, like comparing purple with turquoise iv`e been playing guitar bout 35 years,so i respect where they at,and where you coming from,,what you talking about peace to us all
Great player....! Roots style music is here to stay. Yngwie`s style of Neo-classical shredding at lightening speed is no doubt clever,,,, but just a phase music went through for a period.... just like all fads.
Ywgwie's playing is technical but it's also soulful. His approach to his tone is similar to Philip's. He was vary much influenced by Hendrix & his version of Spanish Castle Magic is a vary good one. He sounds more like Jimi than he does like players like Vai or Satriani. Music shouldn't be fads & all of it should be appreciated. I love Classical, country, & fusion, but gravitate towards more bluesy styles. I dislike the modern heavy stuff, cause it just sounds sterile to me. But that's me & if someone else likes it, who am I to judge?
In my opinion this guy sounds like Hendrix or SRV on certain days. I really can't take this guy seriously because I don't think he ever sounds like himself.
i guess people are still getting upset with an old comment i left on youtube lol. although i will admit that i was being immature when i left that comment, i had only been playing for just over a year and i just discovered philip, so i was in a "philip sayce fanboy" stage. He still is my fav guitarist but i will admit that i was wrong to state my opinion as fact. i personally enjoy his playing more than hendrix and sometimes srv, but that's just my opinion, and i apologize if i offended anyone
Sayce is incredibly talented. One of the best modern blues guys out there today.
Why is this guy not more famous!! Make it happen!
Yngwie with his usual " 8 Michelobs and a bacon sandwich on my mind" stare...
harsh, funny but harsh.
LMFAO
..I'd love to have the fame and talent that goes with it, though! Maybe not so much the boooze! Hahaha
He might sound a bit much like his influences, but you have to love the passion he plays with. You can't fake that.
Perfectly said!
Comparing people like govan or petrucci to sayce is absurd, philip didn't base his career around shredding, he's a songwriter who can play fantastic blues with a great tone and attitude, i also think his singing voice is great.

Philip Sayce shreds a lot on his solos. Govan and Petrucci are great songwriters, and both are very melodic and soulful.
Petrucci sounds like a typewriter to me, the best of the typewriter guitarists, but even then I'd rather hear Paul Gilbert do that. Or Shawn Lane who could do it all.

Yngwei is a huge hendrix fan so he probably dug this
You don’t want to go on after Sayce. While the majority of the dudes backstage are masterful technicians. Phillip is that and an amazing entertainer.
One of the greatest players on the planet.
This dude is just a sick player.
100%
This is the only performance I saw in my whole life that can equals the ones of Jimi. He really understood how to play and sound like him, even if I guess he does his own thing. Awesome!
No Way In Hell! Sorry !
agreed!
yea. no way in hell. he's way better than jimmy :b
@@ubdejones1As proven by Sayce’s irrelevancy till this day… right?
Philip is THE man! He does his thing really well and to the max!
this guy is an extension of stevie and jimmy
What does that even mean?
No, he’s an extension of phillip
Perfectly said.
Jimi*
I remember when Philip showed up at Rumors in Arcadia CA over a decade ago. He was doin' his magic back then too. AWESOME!
Cool to see John Cruz from Fender's Custom Shop standing next to Yngwie.
Pre-ordered straight away after I got the mail this new album was coming out!
Everything this lady does is just great. In recent months I ordered some last missing cd's and got a few signed things from Carline. She's a beautiful person making beautiful music. Can't wait to immerse myself in the new album.
Though he harkens back to SRV and Jimi, he freakin' RIPS IT UP!!! Exciting to watch and hear!!
Spanking the guitar strings with his chord, is original, and now stained in my memory forever:) I enjoyed this performance, I love the atmosphere the song gets in the middle after the peak of the chorus, some bluesy stuff! :)
This guy is an absolute killer.Emotion, tone, guts and balls.COMPLAINS Dont think so

Yep ........."Jimi and Stevie"!!! ...together at last!
The best blues guitar player today

Holy shit, energetic performance! It's like Blues rock on speed... no wonder Yngie took notice.
i dont know y everyone gets all pissed off because he sounds like hendrix or srv, im also a musician myself n one thing u cannot avoid is sounding like ur influences, they will ALWAYS pour out in ur playing, so y doesnt everyone just enjoy the music n the fact that he also loves hendrix n srv n keeps em alive in todays music.
Jesus Christ I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this guy until this moment
The best insane vibrato in The word.
First time seeing this guy. Off the hook good. Love the tone. He's got it.
Yngwie is... there.. in the shadows.. checking..
Love he
Philip rocks!
I love his records and live performances.
And stop comparing with Hendrix and SRV. He is so totally different. Style of his own.
And Yngwie.... nah, he had his time.

That face of yngwie looks like ''' I miss my bacon hamburger and my Budwaiser beer'' xD
STEVIE STIL LIVES IN KWS AND PHILIP... salute my man... where ever u are...
Two of my favorite virtuosos, but Sayce has soul & affects me emotionally...
That was just fucking awesome
Amazing
Yngwie : "Nah, too slow" 😁
perfect tea etiquette -- love that extended pinky!
This guy fuckin rips!! BTW, Yngwie is thinking "Fuck, I'm gonna have to find a new line of work!"
very good player, always like finding new guys on this there TH-cam
Yngwie would probably love this man, what on earth are you talking about ?.
man i love phillips guitar work.. i remember i saw him a while back and got the chance to sit and talk to him.. i remember i could barely mumble cause just being around him is like "whoa" seeing as how he's 6'3 an amazing guitarist and unimaginably nice.. its one of those weird occasions where you have to punch your self in the chest to make sure your not goin gay like when jamie fox met prince.. if youve ever met phillip and your male you'll know what i mean..
Ha ha ha. I concur!
I honestly don't think Philip is 6'3" man
That's one NAMM I'm damn sorry I missed!

Sayce shines!
Philip is a monster!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool...the dude in the red shirt next to Yngwie is Woody Weatherman from COC.

This guys is OBVIOUSLY a great player. Guitar riffs are all stolen from everybody else, guaranteed SRV even Hendrix got riffs from some poor unknown guitarist somwhere. Why can u people jsut appreciate the skills instead of doggin the man. Like someone else said ther not much more you can do!
fuckin great guitar playing

"Let your influences shine through". - Albert Collins
world of his own :)
Greaaat music,,,
Never heard of him, but I like it. Does all his stuff sound like Stevie?
Yeah
MrCalifornia0 no a lot of his playing is around jimi and his songs have a lot of similarities with Lenny kravitz
The only time he somewhat sounds like srv is when he plays some laid back blues when he lays into it he sounds like himself nobody else
@Wiseman501
That strat is actually a '63 with '58 pickups. Its not a relic job
He’s so sic!
Great..........
yes my friend, you are right, his skill/technique is maybe sharper, tho stevie fans would probably disagree,
like comparing purple with turquoise
iv`e been playing guitar bout 35 years,so i respect where they at,and where you coming from,,what you talking about
peace to us all
Yes, you´re right.
philip is awesome..but he uses big jumbo frets??
Yes. Better for bending and the guitars sounds a little different.
Anybody know if those amps are reissue models or vintage?
i wish he would leave a little more space between the notes!!!!!!!
He's good though.
Dont be decieved he can play anything he wants he just prefers the blues greatest guitarist in th world i think at the moment
Even Yngwie stood up and listened to Philip here. I out.
This guy is a good player , he does not bring new tricks to the gtr world but he's really good like a thousand more...
How many times he tried to burn his guitar?
Wow
Hendrix + Blacmore = Philip Sayce 👍
Great player....! Roots style music is here to stay. Yngwie`s style of Neo-classical shredding at lightening speed is no doubt clever,,,, but just a phase music went through for a period.... just like all fads.

Lots of SRV influence in Sayce’s playing here....
Philip-Hold my beer Yngwie ....
Have any of you guys saying he copied Jimi heard of this guy named SRV? If not, that's who he is ripping off, not Jimi.
Why Yngwie's in the same room, I don't know!
Lol, Yngwie
I wonder if that sweater comes in men's?
This comment did not age well ever.
My question is Did Yngwie speak to him afterwards?
In my opinion this guy sounds like Hendrix or SRV on certain days. I really can't take this guy seriously because I don't think he ever sounds like himself.
i guess people are still getting upset with an old comment i left on youtube lol. although i will admit that i was being immature when i left that comment, i had only been playing for just over a year and i just discovered philip, so i was in a "philip sayce fanboy" stage. “More than Hendrix, and sometimes srv”
I’m pretty sure you just offended everybody else, good job, you still got it!
Is he feeling it or what!!!love me some PHILLIP SAYCE...
RIP STEVIE,JIMI&JEFF.
I want to see Sayce and JoBo jam together 🎉😮
What's the song he sings at the end called?
Just another one...is there anything new there???
hendrix would literally push this guy off the stage rather than totally embarrass him and play HIS music like HE made it
Only Two second
Monster Musician
What song is he playing here?
Not enough Yngwie! 😂 I jest.....
