To everyone saying you can just beat Ruby Weapon and get a Gold Chocobo that way...You can't do that until the END of disc 2. By doing this method you're getting it at the BEGINNING of disc 2 which means you can get KotR a lot sooner.
@Andrew Daigle I don't. But I have it equipped so I can level it up. Much faster mastering it that way rather than starting on disc 3. The only time I really use it is against Emerald Weapon.
I honestly want to try to do this without the inbreeding. it is technically possible just a lot more work because you have to catch a total of 3 wonderfuls and a total of 2 Greats. So one wonderful and one great makes the river, then you let those 2 go, you dont need them any more. Then the next wonderful and the next great makes the mountain, you let them go you dont need them any more. You mate the now NON-brother and sister Mountain and River to get the Black chocobo, and then you breed the black chocobo with the only remaining Wonderful. And boom no cross breeding...... but a lot of extra work.

Amazing, after all these years this dude basically proved that racing is an inconsequential waste of time...I loosely followed this guide (male great, female wonderful, didn’t do the save immediately outside of chocobo farm, different food numbers, etc) and I still ended up with a gold chocobo with zero racing in an hour-ish time....incredible
J Brown yeah man, I had to do a little bit of trial and error for sure, my genders never matched this guide, there were times when I had to breed, reset, breed, reset, etc in order to get the right color/gender combos that I needed, I was feeding random numbers of greens, and I would have to battle a bunch more than stated in this guide to get the chocobos ready to breed again, but I inevitably still ended up with a gold much faster than I ever have before by just loosely following this dude’s guide, pretty awesome

This is incredible. Like many, I'm playing through FF7 again before the release of the remake. As soon as I got the HIghwind I followed your guide to the T and got my gold chocobo with ZERO issues. I remember as a kid this would take me DAYS. I did it in under a half hour, got all the powerful materia, completed the Ancient Forest, and now back on the main story, overpowerd AF. TO PEOPLE GETTING A BLACK CHOCOBO ON YOUR FINAL MATING SESSION: Change the amount of Krakka Greens you give if you are consistently getting a Black Chocobo instead of Gold. The guide says to use 6, but I had to use 5 to get it. The Krakka Greens advance the RNG so adjusting this value is what gives you the Gold Chocobo. I kept getting Black and I gave 5 greens instead to get Gold.
The thing is, that you reset the global timer (for RNG manipulation) when you restart your game, which this video didn't explain at all. If you're too slow going in to the stables you need to change the amounts or try to be faster.

Just a few things i'd add playing on Playstation 1 with original PAL discs: 1) You need to hard reset to achieve the desired effect ie. turn the console off (soft reset doesn't seem to achieve the desired effect) 2) Chocobo sex doesn't seem to be determined until after you enter the farm (or talk to billy) so if you don't get the wonderful / great sexes you want, don't go through the laborious task of catching them again, just get in some random battles to try and change up the RNG before you enter the farm 3) how fast you go or how close to the farm you save (as long as you don't get into another random battle) seems to have no effect.

Nintendo Switch Confirmed - Works flawlessly. I had originally tired this video with Cloud after rescuing him from Mideel, but it didn't work. I couldn't even breed the River/Mountain chocobo. So... I played through the game again to try immediately after getting the Highwind, and with Tifa as the main. Success. I was able to breed a gold Chocobo following the video exactly. It may be you can only do this method with Tifa immediately after getting the Highwind.
Yeah I had a problem at this spot too on the Switch. Pretty sure I just did 7 instead of 8 battles. The game told me the Chocobos were not ready to breed yet, so I tried one more battle. Then the breeding result was not correct. So all I did, having already saved and quit accidentally with battles, was to reload and fight 8 more. The breeding then worked exactly as it should. This method saved a massive amount of time, thanks! And I did keep 3x speed mode on the whole time too... @@scotius

I too played the game over 20 years ago. Lots of things I remembered, but also a lott I forgot. So also I forgot how to exactly bread a gold Chocobo. Never new I could get a gold one without racing. The playthrough book didnt told me that. Your vid made it look easy, It wasn't realy. But after using nine different saveslots and over 3 hrs of trying to get it right, I finaly did it. At 8:25-8:40 you mention repeating the process if their genders don't match up. Chocobos have no gender until you look at them for moving into a stable, therefore you can reload the save and rush back into the farm and hope for the right result without having to repeat the catch process. That tip about monsters determining rank, I never knew so thanks for saving me that little bit of time!!
(switch) I've only found female wonderful by this method. I've caught 6 separate wonderfuls and reset a bunch of times. Been at this for hours but no luck. What should i do?
@@DumpsterFyre38 You need to do something different in the choco stables, buy greens or feed a choco so it changes the rng counter. Buy 1 green, check if not correct gender buy greens twice check again. It's all manipulation of the rng counter
it got surpassed in literally every way by its immediate successor, but this game was what most people used as their gateway to RPGs(yeah yeah I know, you played 6 on the SNES and chrono trigger before that, thats the same lie everyone else tells too) and they refuse to see it as an inferior game to 8, and possibly even 9. 7 is looked at through rose colored glasses
@@TheGhostofMrArthurs I never got into 8. I hate the junction bs and it doesn't grip me story wise in the beginning to keep me playing. I have it and maybe one day I will finally force myself to play it, but it just doesn't do it for me. I also tried 9 but the disc froze near the beginning at the same place so never played much of that either. I love 6 and 7 equally. Both were amazing on their respective consoles.

I tried this yesterday and it didn’t work. So I bought the 6 stables, bought the greens and the nut at the stables. Then I still the 2 carat nuts by those dinosaur guys near bone village, stole the zeo nut from the goblins on that island, then I caught the Chocobo in the snow area that had only bunnies with it and no wolves. Sent it back to the stables and then caught the choco by mideel that spawns with that weird purple rolling bug thing. Went back to the choco farm, saved and went in to move the choco is, but upon moving them I found that I had 2 wonderful chocobos, ass opposed to 1 great and 1 wonderful like he said you’re supposed to have. The only thing I did differently was the character and the Materia, I used Tifa cid and Vincent and I saw that his Tifa has no Materia on other than the choco lure, when I tried the strat yesterday she had other stuff equipped but other than that I did everything to a T
I'm playing the Switch version and this technique worked like a charm. I was surprised how easy it was to do. The most difficult part was just catching the excellent and great chocobos at the beginning. Thank you!

I bought an android phone version of this game and have been playing without any references and somehow made it to the end, by which I mean Sephiroth. Then I knew there's a lot more stuff to this game such as materias and limits. The disappointment I felt when I found out many of those could only be reached with a gold Chocobo which I ignored all through the gameplay. Then I ran into this video and got one nice gold Chocobo just now, Dec 20, 2020 00:50 KST. I am silently smiling when everyone's asleep. I am a happy guy in my 40s catching up the dream game I so wanted to play in high school but couldn't due to several reasons. This sure is the happiest moment in the past few weeks. i didnt mind the breeding or the racing,, it was the how the prize system worked, nothing like racing for hours waiting to finally see that one prize your looking for just to win a cheap potion instead because Joe blow got second place

21 years I have been playing this game. 20 YEARS! This is the one thing I always wanted to do was get a gold chocobo before going to mideel but the farthest I ever got was a black chocobo. When your title said it could be done I was skeptical because Iv'e tried many fake things in the past ( Sephiroth X ::Cringes::) I can't thank you enough, I tried this and it worked first time! Damn tried this on the Switch version while on lockdown 2020, worked the first time I tried it, was amazed at how easy that was! I even did it at the same time in the game with Tifa as party leader, feels super OP grabing KotR so early :P This is great because I always hated trying to grind the races to get goldie, so glad to have found this video ^_^
After getting the chocobo this way, are you still able to max out it's racing potential with sylkis greens? I don't like grinding 4 generations of chocobo through the racing, but having 1 that can dominate the track is good for getting rewards later in the game, and if the gold you get from this method is not as good at racing then I might just do it the old fashioned way...

Thank you man, I’m an older gamer and I played FF7 as a teen when it released, I took the racing route but the highest I achieved was Black. My first run I made a mistake feeding the great and wonderful chocobos krakka greens to capture them, DON’T. Went back and got them again with gysahl greens, WORKED PERFECTLY!!!

I totally agree. The enjoyment from the game comes from the dedication and persistence. I'm not a fan of these videos. Or the Speed Run gamers. They are part of the "Instant Gratification" generation who just wanted everything handed to them right now. It felt amazing when I earned a Gold chocobo the long/hard way! Nintendo Switch Confirmed - Works flawlessly.
I had originally tired this video with Cloud after rescuing him from Mideel, but it didn't work. I couldn't even breed the River/Mountain chocobo.
So... I played through the game again to try immediately after getting the Highwind, and with Tifa as the main. Success. I was able to breed a gold Chocobo following the video exactly.
It may be you can only do this method with Tifa immediately after getting the Highwind.
I did it after rescuing Cloud. I had to battle 9 times prior to breeding the mtn and river, but maybe I miscounted.
Yeah I had a problem at this spot too on the Switch. Pretty sure I just did 7 instead of 8 battles. The game told me the Chocobos were not ready to breed yet, so I tried one more battle. Then the breeding result was not correct. So all I did, having already saved and quit accidentally with battles, was to reload and fight 8 more. The breeding then worked exactly as it should.
This method saved a massive amount of time, thanks! And I did keep 3x speed mode on the whole time too...

I too played the game over 20 years ago. Lots of things I remembered, but also a lott I forgot. So also I forgot how to exactly bread a gold Chocobo. Never new I could get a gold one without racing. The playthrough book didnt told me that. Your vid made it look easy, It wasn't realy. But after using nine different saveslots and over 3 hrs of trying to get it right, I finaly did it. At 8:25-8:40 you mention repeating the process if their genders don't match up.
Chocobos have no gender until you look at them for moving into a stable, therefore you can reload the save and rush back into the farm and hope for the right result without having to repeat the catch process.
That tip about monsters determining rank, I never knew so thanks for saving me that little bit of time!!
Is this confirmed? Of the 20 resets I've done to do this, they've all been female. This chocobo was caught with 2 bunnies.

@@DumpsterFyre38 You need to do something different in the choco stables, buy greens or feed a choco so it changes the rng counter. Buy 1 green, check if not correct gender buy greens twice check again. It's all manipulation of the rng counter

it got surpassed in literally every way by its immediate successor, but this game was what most people used as their gateway to RPGs(yeah yeah I know, you played 6 on the SNES and chrono trigger before that, thats the same lie everyone else tells too) and they refuse to see it as an inferior game to 8, and possibly even 9. 7 is looked at through rose colored glasses
@@TheGhostofMrArthurs I never got into 8. I hate the junction bs and it doesn't grip me story wise in the beginning to keep me playing. I have it and maybe one day I will finally force myself to play it, but it just doesn't do it for me. I also tried 9 but the disc froze near the beginning at the same place so never played much of that either. I love 6 and 7 equally. Both were amazing on their respective consoles.
@@joshuakegley3524 ff8 is better than ff7 as its more polished but the story is shit. FF9 was just a return to FF roots so ypu can't compare it to the two. And we all know FF X is the best

Awesome! Followed the instructions to the letter and worked great on PS4! First time I've EVER managed to get a gold chocobo, thank you! Hardest bit was getting the right monster combinations near Bone Village... all in all it took about 2hrs, but well worth it 👍

I tried this yesterday and it didn’t work. So I bought the 6 stables, bought the greens and the nut at the stables. Then I still the 2 carat nuts by those dinosaur guys near bone village, stole the zeo nut from the goblins on that island, then I caught the Chocobo in the snow area that had only bunnies with it and no wolves. Sent it back to the stables and then caught the choco by mideel that spawns with that weird purple rolling bug thing. Went back to the choco farm, saved and went in to move the choco is, but upon moving them I found that I had 2 wonderful chocobos, ass opposed to 1 great and 1 wonderful like he said you’re supposed to have. The only thing I did differently was the character and the Materia, I used Tifa cid and Vincent and I saw that his Tifa has no Materia on other than the choco lure, when I tried the strat yesterday she had other stuff equipped but other than that I did everything to a T

I bought an android phone version of this game and have been playing without any references and somehow made it to the end, by which I mean Sephiroth. Then I knew there's a lot more stuff to this game such as materias and limits. The disappointment I felt when I found out many of those could only be reached with a gold Chocobo which I ignored all through the gameplay. Then I ran into this video and got one nice gold Chocobo just now, Dec 20, 2020 00:50 KST. I am silently smiling when everyone's asleep. I am a happy guy in my 40s catching up the dream game I so wanted to play in high school but couldn't due to several reasons. This sure is the happiest moment in the past few weeks. I actually liked racing chocobos. I think it was if u held in L2 & R2, ur stamina wld regenerate when not using the boost
i didnt mind the breeding or the racing,, it was the how the prize system worked, nothing like racing for hours waiting to finally see that one prize your looking for just to win a cheap potion instead because Joe blow got second place

21 years I have been playing this game. 20 YEARS! This is the one thing I always wanted to do was get a gold chocobo before going to mideel but the farthest I ever got was a black chocobo. When your title said it could be done I was skeptical because Iv'e tried many fake things in the past ( Sephiroth X ::Cringes::) I can't thank you enough, I tried this and it worked first time! Damn tried this on the Switch version while on lockdown 2020, worked the first time I tried it, was amazed at how easy that was! I even did it at the same time in the game with Tifa as party leader, feels super OP grabing KotR so early :P This is great because I always hated trying to grind the races to get goldie, so glad to have found this video ^_^

After getting the chocobo this way, are you still able to max out it's racing potential with sylkis greens? I don't like grinding 4 generations of chocobo through the racing, but having 1 that can dominate the track is good for getting rewards later in the game, and if the gold you get from this method is not as good at racing then I might just do it the old fashioned way...

Thank you man, I’m an older gamer and I played FF7 as a teen when it released, I took the racing route but the highest I achieved was Black. My first run I made a mistake feeding the great and wonderful chocobos krakka greens to capture them, DON’T. Went back and got them again with gysahl greens, WORKED PERFECTLY!!!

I totally agree. The enjoyment from the game comes from the dedication and persistence. I'm not a fan of these videos. Or the Speed Run gamers. They are part of the "Instant Gratification" generation who just wanted everything handed to them right now. It felt amazing when I earned a Gold chocobo the long/hard way! This video makes it seem like the guy is trying to get FFVii to be over quicker?! I wanted the game to last longer!
