I'm really glad we live in a timeline where Quilfish, noboby's favorite pokemon, let alone a pokemon anyone actually remembered or cared about can get it's own day in the sun with more interesting contextualization. It really goes to show what a genius idea regional variants were and why it was one of the few modern ideas in the games that have stuck around past the region it was introduced in

I must have insane Quilfish luck. Whenever I went looking for one for the pokedex I found it within like 3 fishing rods drops. I registered it, boxed it and then never thought about it again until I went looking for it for Pokedex purposes and found it in less than 5 minutes.

What's wrong is I couldn't use an Overqwil on my team because I had a massive weakness to the Ground type, and since Dark and Ghost overlapped, both types were not good for my team.
I think I got almost half of my partially complete Pokémon collection (complete up until Sun and Moon) by breeding Qwilfish and asking for pokémon I didn't have or couldn't catch and other people trying to complete the Dex would trade even legendaries for it. I guess it became somewhat rare because people just forgot about it most of the time.

Statistically, you'd want to represent a 5% chance with any number on the d20, but a 1 or a 20 would've made more sense than a 5 in my opinion. Technically each number on the d20 is a 5% chance of course, but 1 and 20 are the more 'interesting' or 'exciting' numbers to see.
So excited to see Qwilfish in the game. He was one of my favs ever since I played coliseum. Wasn't too happy about Overqwil at first but I'm starting to like him.
personally don't like overqwil (feels too bloated and stretched as a design, ironic for a puffer), but really like qwilfish's hot topic look, hopefully they will be usable later like the alolan variants so I can try an eviolite set with it

@@jaschabull2365 Look at peppers and other spicy plants, the spice was meant to be a deter creatures from eating the plants but us humans ended up loving it. Sometimes a defensive adaptation just makes you better to eat.
Throwing a bit of additional info in: Fugu fish raised in a controlled environment will not have the poison, since they're not being fed the bacteria that would create the poison to begin with. But not being potentially lethal makes it unwanted...
I love how even back in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, they hinted that Qwilfish would not only get an new regional form, but also a new evolution that evolves into Overqwil in "The Sea Legend" book in Canalave Library

to me the irony of fugu is that it’s mostly tasteless. it’s a very subtle and nuanced flavor. you’d think for such a risk it would taste incredible.
