      Guys, if you enjoyed Fleabag i think you would also enjoy Killing Eve. Pheobe WB wrote and directed the first season, i think she still was very hands on with the 2nd and 4th season. She was not as involved with season 3 and you can really tell; Pheobe really is a great great talent

    Something that few people realize is the fact that Fleabag can see the priest's fox and the priest can see her break her fourth wall is them breaking down each other's defense mechanisms and actually seeing each other. Basically them seeing each other truly vulnerable. So good yet so incredibly heartbreaking. :(

      The fox is not imaginary. The fox is real. But it means something. The priest feels hunted by the fox, says the fox once seems to say "I see you". So the fox stands for the priest doubts. He reminds him of them. Comes after him. And Fleabag is the living proof. So it's no coincidence that the fox appears, when he is with Fleabag or that he almost mistook Fleabag for a fox

    I think Fleabag has one of those endings where you kind of have to reflect on it, and then looking back on it with the full context of the show, you realize it's kind of the most perfect ending you could get. She's on decent terms with her sister and her father, she's got her statue, she knows the priest loves her even if they can't be together, and she's in a place where she doesn't need us anymore. I think Boo is something she will always be working through, because grief is like that - not really something you can resolve or face all at once. But it's okay, because it's like the song at the end was saying - though she's still going to keep working through things (because that's just life), we know she's "going to be alright" :)

    • @shanudiyapage
      @shanudiyapage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      exactly. the ending was perfect without everything being resolved because that is just how life is.

    • @concettasorvillo3719

      They stated in the writing "she had all this love and didn't way to put it when the mother is gone. Then she gives to Boo but her dies and Fleabag blames herself". She thinks she can't love, because her love hurts people, which is what her father says to her. And then that she is unlovable and just her body can be loved.
      But with Priest and Claire she realizes she can put this love in other people and other people can genuinely love her back, as Claire and Hot Priest do. Sh she passes through her grief and starts to heal.

    • @marslara
      @marslara ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah for sure, the ending seems a bit optimistic to me as it's basically stated that only person fleabag feels she can confide in is the audience. But when she leaves the camera behind it feels more like she's ready to open up to others rather than silently reflect on it with us

  • @HangrySiren

    I’m honestly very fond of her saying goodbye to us at the end. We were kinda the replacement for Boo, a friend to lean on, someone who sees her when the rest of her world can’t…but bye the end she doesn’t need us anymore…she lets us go. I actually think that was about as happy an ending as the show could give us. What would a super happy ending actually look like? Maybe a time jump to the Fleabag and the priest happily running the cafe together? Let’s be honest, that’d be terrible.
    Fleabag has properly started on her road to coping with the deaths of Boo and her mother, as well as learning to love again. She’s no longer “a girl with no friends and an empty heart” as the therapist described her and she no longer needs to use us as a coping mechanism.
    I think the brilliant final song, This Feeling by Alabama Shakes, gives us all the conclusion we need:
    “See, I've been having me a real good time,
    And it feels so nice to know I'm gonna be alright.”

    I actually feel like things kinda resolved with the fleabag and the stepmother. Her forgetting the dads name and Asking for fleabags help to find the dad. That to me kinda symbolized that she still knows they will always know him better , and be closer to him than she ever can. And having to ask for fleabags help in finding him kinda diminished the feeling of abandonment she felt from her father.

    I do think the ending was pretty perfect as is, but I also secretly harbor a hope that years down the line, after he's left the priesthood, they find their way back to each other. Maybe the most interesting thing about how it ends is that she's pretty well got a handle on her demons, but his are still chasing him (i.e. the fox). It suggests that he's still perhaps in the thick of it and he hasn't yet reached the end of his journey or whatever you want to call it. That's what I tell myself anyway lol

    I just like the layers of how it’s a love story. It’s the love she had for her family, for Boo, for herself, and learning how to fall in love again with the priest. It’s not a traditional love story but a deconstruction of what love really means in its full spectrum.

  • @MsSera21
    @MsSera21 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Her leaving 'us' behind is kind of the resolution for Boo. At least, Fleabag has moved on in her healing process enough so that she doesn't need us any more. Love is hope, like the Priest said, and she's not in her grief hole of brokeness any more

    Fleabag is one of my favourite shows of all time and I'm so glad you guys experienced it! I like how there's little closure and how Fleabag leaves us behind at the end. It symbolises a new beginning. As heartbreaking as the 'breakup' between her and the priest was, I think she needed it as a character to grow. And her leaving us behind is her 'growing up' and healing from Boo. I could write a whole essay but I'll spare you but there's so much detail and symbolism in this show that tells a whole other story.

    It is a bit crazy given how short this series is (basically 6 hours, total), with how invested in these characters we get. Just goes to show the amazing writing and performances, of the whole cast. When this series ended I felt an ache like I was losing a friend, and I don't tend to get that attached to characters even on shows that go on for several seasons. Obviously Fleabag and the priest are the central characters this season but honestly the whole cast was freaking amazing...I can just imagine how the dad's lines are written in the script, and him (the actor playing the dad) having to figure out how to deliver them, it's pretty impressive when you think about it!

    I love that ending. I feel like it's her way of saying that she's going to let herself be okay. I think the whole time she was talking to us, we were a surrogate for Boo. All her someones had gone so she did what she could. But that was just keeping a placeholder. It was part of the guilt she was carrying with her. And she decided to leave it behind. Not because she's going to forget Boo or the decisions she made to get her to the point in her life she is at. But as always, she's the one who knows how to move forward. It's like her dad said, she was made to be a punching bag. I dreamed of this last night. Being the human version of soundproofing, in the analogy where pain is sound. There's no passing through, it's just absorbing. And through that new things are created. That's also why she knows she's going to survive the priest's choice being God. He is nowhere near her first loss. And every loss has been piercing. So deciding that she's still going to be okay inn no way means that she's not wounded. It just means that she's learned that she is still a person even with the wounds. They aren't something that slow her down, they are part of the tour. How do you get to a finish line except for through. The through path though sometimes is full of thorns that'll tear you apart. I think she's lovely.
    Also, fu** yeah Claire!

    Just some of my random thoughts about the show's finale.
    I think it's appropriate that Boo wasn't in this episode - I think Fleabag needed to let her go, and it looks like she did. Fleabag also needed to open up to love again, and the Hot Priest helped her with that. Oh, and about the fox, I think it represents his inner turmoil, like his desires vs. beliefs, and since he chose to pursue the latter, the fox stayed with him. Boo "left" but the fox stayed, and it shows that Fleabag found peace in the end and the Hop Priest didn't.
    I think that this episode shows very nicely that although the Father and the Godmother have a weird relationship, they kinda work well together. Remember when at the Fleabag mom's funeral the Father said about the Godmother "She is a bit annoying actually"? Fleabag said exactly the same thing about the Hot Priest when he came to her café. I feel like it's a nice parallel between these two relationships. Like, the couples are not perfect together but they work.
    I also think that Fleabag had a redeeming moment with the Godmother when she told her that the sculpture was based on her mother, and I think that this time Fleabag stole the sculpture not because she needed money or out of spite, but cause she wanted to reconnect with her mother (as her father told her to), which is a nice callback to the first episode and shows how much she had grown as a person.
    So, even though she lost her love, she didn't really, cause now she is free of guilt over Boo and ready to find love with someone again❤‍🩹

    I think the 2016 “Crashing” was her first show on TV. It was written and created by Phoebe, she also acts in it. It’s one season, and really interesting to see how she grew into creating Fleabag.

    I've just come across you & really enjoyed your Fleabag reactions. Have you watched Our Flag Means Death? It's a silly heartbreak comedy, and a quick watch just 10eps. The first 3 establish everyone, before the shenanigans ensue for the rest of the season.

    I appreciated how the show didn't fully wrap up in a neat bow, I appreciated how the "villans" on the show also never got their reckoning. I like how we were just dropped in the middle of fleabags life, and we'll never know how they ended ip

    the word on the bus stop is in Cyrillic letters and it says Животе which, at least in Serbian, means Life, but the way it's written, it looks like the vocative form we use when we're talking to someone. it's used as a phrase when you're frustrated, disappointed, or angry like "oh my god" or "dammit". it's pretty suitable for the end actually, cursing your own life

    This episode is the narrative I relate to most out of every single story I have ever seen or read.
    This is how love has worked for me too in my life. I felt so seen. Not the priest specifically, but the general conundrum of falling for someone who fell for you but did not feel they could choose to be with you because of other features of their life.
    I've never seen anything else deliver the truth of that pain so clearly and humanly.

    it's funny that you guys mentioning Atlanta, because Donald Glover said that he watched Fleabag when they were creating Atlanta and made everyone in the writer's room watch it because Glover wanted to catch what's so special in Fleabag and bring it to Atlanta.

    Not only does she learn how to love again, after Boo, but she also learns that she can BE loved again. Her Sister, her father and the priest. Familial love and romantic love. She’s “healed.” I’m glad the priest stick to his conviction. It would have felt cheap if he’s have quit the priesthood to be with her. I’m he’s a stronger man for following through with his faith. That’s the closure Fleabag actually needed.
    Such a bitter-sweet ending to an amazing series.

    If you think about it, the names of fleabag, Dad and stepmother were never mentioned in the whole series, that's why the stepmother couldn't say his name to introduce him to those people.

    If you want some more PWB, I would recommend "Crashing" (the British version). It is a Channel 4 show, it was also created and written by PWB, and she's one of the main characters. I think it has the same, although less mature, vibe as "Fleabag". It's one season - which kills me to this day - but I go back to it very often. It's amazing in my opinion.

  • @bethhogan8008

    Fun fact: “Fleabag” was originally written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge as a one woman stage production! I think it makes everything sort of click, thinking of the whole story as just PWB doing one long stage soliloquy/monologue. And the series finale was very theatrical. I would’ve loved to see it while it was running!

  • @DelGuy03

    I just loved your reactions to this wonderful series. (Subscribed because of it.) Probably others have mentioned this at some point, but the only thing the priest did that "priests aren't supposed to do" is have sex with Fleabag -- and that's serious, but within the Catholic faith he can (and will) confess it and be forgiven for it. Many priests have had a "slip" like that over the years, and recovered. But socializing, having a drink or a smoke, indulging in colorful language... that's all within bounds. (It's nuns and monks who may renounce the world.) I think everyone loves the character of the Priest, and the actor who played him.
    As for Boo, I think we're to take it that that story was basically concluded with Season 1, and the year that Fleabag spent working on herself before Season 2. We notice that in this second season, Fleabag was basically the responsible "normal" one, and it was others misbehaved and caused embarrassment around her.
