It's also kind of weird how Mario doesn't leave the Luigi door after rescuing him. He just kinda stays trapped in there until Luigi decides to open the door again. I know it's for gameplay purposes, but it doesn't make any logical sense that they don't just open the door from the outside so that they can both leave at the same time.

The naming of Super Mario 64 DS's King Boo as Big Boo is speculated to be a mistranslation, as it is quickly corrected in Mario Kart DS shortly after and the character is Kingu Teresa in the Japanese version of both.
Interestingly, King Boo and Big Boo use the same 3D model with a modifier adding a crown when King Boo is faced.

Given how much King Boo hates Luigi and the lengths he goes to get revenge on Dark Moon and Mansion 3, I think it would make sense for him to put Luigi under layers and layers of security if he captured him.

From what I know, that IS supposed to be King Boo, and the “Big Boo” mentioned in the English version is simply a miss translation.

Nice video! It’s an interesting theory, but I don’t think it quite holds up.
3:25 I’m pretty sure Mario shrinks to enter the cage rather than having a shrinking animation only to be teleported somewhere else. If it did have to me a location somewhere else, it’s probably near Bowser’s Castle based on how we see a mansion with the same layout in Bowser Badlands from Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
In any case, I don’t think the forest is Evershade Valley. Not only does Evershade Valley not really feature a proper forest but it’s stated that Boos are almost never found there. Their presence there in Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is pointed out as an anomaly.
“Criminy! A Boo in the valley?!
    What in tarnation?
“It's concerning to find a Boo in the
    Gloomy Manor, though”
[Source: Professor E. Gadd, Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon]
Evershade Valley also isn’t IN the Mushroom Kingdom, and if anywhere was the “Boo Capital”, it’d probably have been Boo Woods
"Evershade Valley is not located in the Mushroom Kingdom"
[Source: Yoshihiko Ikebata, Supervisor for Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, IGN, April 2013]
The boo you fight to unlock Luigi IS actually King Boo, not a Big Boo. While yes he is called Big Boo, this is only in the American script, and was an error by the localisation team. In Japanese and other languages he is correctly referred to as King Boo, the same character from Luigi’s Mansion, hence the laugh.
Super Mario 64 DS is actually likely intended to be a prequel to the first Luigi’s Mansion. King Boo doesn’t know or care who Luigi is in Super Mario 64 DS - and in Luigi’s Mansion he mentions how much trouble Mario and Luigi caused for him in the past. The original Super Mario 64 released before Luigi’s Mansion, so with the remake they decided to flesh out King Boo’s history with Mario and Luigi in an adventure we’re familiar with, providing him motivation for his plan in the first game.

I like to think that Boolosus from Luigi’s Mansion is the Big Boo from Super Mario 64 DS. After all, Boolosus is just a bunch of Boos together, forming a “BIG” Boo.

Same! I also found the background of Big Boo's Haunt interesting. I also wanted to explore out of the cage. I personally think the level is in the actual cage and that the dark forest view is how anyone shrunken down would see Peach Castle's courtyard. Like a weird side-effect of the shrinking, just like how microscopic photos often look weird in terms of lighting and colours! But your theories are interesting too!

Big Boo’s Haunt is a pretty solid ghost house level. It’s got that creepy atmosphere down and it has many weird secrets.

I think for a theory of king boo is that both king boos in luigis mansion and in any other appearances in Mario ganes are the same boo exept he doesn't have the big purple gem on his crown in any mario game and so whenever he has that purple emerald on his crown could've cause king boo to have the sunken eyes with the glowing purple puples

I find it so weird that the strategy guide said you could kill the Deadly Piano. Maybe at one point it could be done by punching it, or perhaps there was a powerup in the level that could do it. If not it was just an odd mistake on the guide’s part.

  • @KingYoshi93

I think this Big Boo is in fact King Boo. If I remember correctly, it is King Boo in the Japanese version. So the English translations probably made a mistake.

I always thought luigis mansion and mario 64 take place at the same time and in the big boos haunt level luigi may be there somewhere but mario never finds him

I’m pretty sure there’s specific dialogue where E Gadd expresses confusion over why there’s a Boo in Evershade Valley, implying they’re not native to the area.
