honestly think crossout is a must, either insulating yourself vs handtraps or setting up a shif or paces means it's never a dead card like in other decks. Great bubble reef, the link 4 marincess could be a good use for all your extra bodies, banishing a snopios or psiics in stand by for draw.
So happy that more people are putting time into this archetype! It’s crazy how much more complicated it became after the new support. Going with only 1 of each Ghoti fish seemed weird to me at first, but I get what you mean about them being kinda dead in hand. I do think your list could benefit from adding Deepest Depths, though, since it’s an easy way to get Psiics, which can unbrick your hand in a pinch I’m hyped to see how this deck pans out when Phantom Nightmare drops!
Just glad that a TH-camr is helping give people methods to madness, I have no doubt this deck will be highly explored when the set drops, and that some wonderful minds will try to make the deck as effective as possible, but before the set, no one is trying it yet and it’s been hard to assemble a list that I want to use for the initial release so thanks for the hard work brother
it's really good food for thought this - because it's so true that the in-archetype cards are both insane recursion but also terrible later game draws. Thanks for making me think!
After testing this deck alot myself I found out that the deck has a really good endboard that's kind of hard to interact with however, you have to keep in mind that the deck has no true 1 card combo, therefore I decided to up the leaffish to 3 and also play white mirror since it synergizes really well with leaffish and white sardine aswell. I also agree that each ghoti shouldn't be more than one and honestly i'd even cut the second "white" monster to 1 as it only combos off with sardine or the spell that searches it. Also, crossout is a must in this deck, in ep you just activate it banish a ghoti and have an interruption ready on the opponent's turn. Also i'm not sure it struggles that much going second when you have a raigeki in white aura, non targetting banish in chengying and icejade gymirine and deep whale. This deck's really hard to play but it's really decent and is currently under the radar which is good.
White Mirror sounds very interesting, will need to see how many times that thing is dead. Thoughts on the Beautunaful Princess? While I agree that she gives you access to the entire Deck I personally hate the fact that she banishes itself and therefor looses so hard to ash it's not even funny
Sorry for wall of text, just felt the need to dump some thoughts somewhere! You mentioned that the Ghoti monsters are bad draws... it's very true, and that's why I was trying to play Spright Ghoti when the cards originally came out. All of the Ghoti monsters are cards that you don't want to see in your hand. I'd rather have the Ghoti monsters live in the deck and pull them out with Spright Sprind, Gigantic Spright, or Arionpos, or even Beautunaful Princess. Spright Smashers has decent synergy with the Ghoti Tuners too. But the problem that I faced with that build was that I could almost never make Arionpos on turn 1 because of the level 2 restrictions on Gigantic and Spright Starter, which made the deck even worse at going second than it already is. Ideally I think Ghoti needs more starter cards that pull their engine cards out of the deck or get them to Arionpos so that they can run minimal engine and maximise on utility and hand traps to compensate for how bad they are going second. The engine itself is really solid and sticky once it gets going, even with only 1 of each card. I was thinking that with Psiics it might suddenly be good to max on Paces since opening Paces is a starter if you also opened Psiics. But a 2-card starter is never good enough to justify maxing on cards that are otherwise bad in today's game, even if they're searchable with Most Distant Deepest Depths. And that same logic kind of makes me wary of the White Sardine and Sunfish plays - it's great when you draw them together or are able to search them, but if you can't get to both of them it's kind of weak, and the statistics for having access to both in an opening hand aren't as good as one might hope. I've been thinking about having a look at Ice Barrier (the Trap, not the archetype) with Foolish Burial Goods. It can search for Abyss Shark, Snopios, or Psiics, (or Coelecanth if you want to go in that direction), depending on what you need to access, and since you're already locking yourself into Waters with White Sardine the restriction is kind of meaningless. And if you draw the Ice Barrier you can ditch it with Crocodragon or set it and hope they pop it, then it still lets you search Snopios or Psiics in your opponent's turn. And you can also play a copy of Most Distant Deepest Depths or White Circle Reef to make Foolish Burial Goods more versatile, although that seems maybe a bit excessive.
All good no worries I appreciate it I like the idea of the sprights but the deck would obviously have to be built in a much different way to utilize them more effectively. Foolish goods I've looked into but the bricking aspect doesn't help me enough. The reason why I chose mermaid shark was because it gives you a fish on field for the abyss shark that you are adding so it can be a (technically) 1 card starter. Those max paces and psiics follow the "draw them later they dead logic" sadly. Same with field spell. I think I got everything important I appreciate the help and suggestions :) thank you!
Speaking of the Ice Barrier (archetype) in Ghoti Spright, you can make an Arionpos turn 1 with Lifeless Leaffish. Send Nimble Angler to summon two Nimble fishes, link them up into Spright Sprind to send Mirror Magic Master, MMM add the Freezing Chains which can special summon MMM from the GY, from here you could either make Arionpos or use MMM tribute Sprind to make bigger Synchros. I'm still working out on more combo lines, but MMM has a lot of potential. Swap Frog can also be played to send MMM to GY, increasing the number of 1-card starters to at least 8 (3 Beautunaful, 3 Swap Frogs, 1 Lifeless, 1 Nimble Beaver and any other cards that can make a Sprind). The problem is making Arionpos on your turn doesn't enable further playing through disruption on turn 2, and doesn't extend your Synchro play turn 1 either. You have to wait until next turn if you banish the Level 2s. Banish Psiics can get you a Fish, but there's nothing you can do with it once you used up your normal summon. That said there might be lines that I haven't thought of, looking forward for your opinions!
Your my hero. I love your channel. I love all the content via all channels but you provide actual commentary about the cards and more importantly...INTERACTIONS!!!!!
I like this list, very thoughtful! In my ghoti lists I find that you get really screwed if you open just beautunaful without any white aura support. One ash leaves you with an empty board.
Oh meant to say, idk why I talk about lampfish being a line with the 3 level 2s. That's just not true. I think I was just super tired. Its comes up with sardine sometimes but its pretty situational
Have you heard of Synchro Zone? I use it in my Ghoti deck and it plays very well. It only allows synchro monsters to attack and can resummon arionpos making it a tuner AND allows an additional synchro summon on your opponents turn by tributing the trap. It also doesnt lock you into water which means that you can use arionpos and any lvl 4 to synchro into baronne or anything else you fancy on your opponents turn. Its honestly insane. Additionally, if youre using the OCG rulings, Gozen Match is broken. Gozen and Synchro Zone can both win games.
@@tora148 no problem, happy to help. If you play the TCG ruling and you’re interested in using gozen, I’ve been trialing Beatrice (lvl 6 XYZ) to send gozen to the graveyard (foolish burial goods also works) and then knightmare gryphon to set the trap from the grave, it helps with consistency since the traps limited to 1. It’s a good turn 1 option.
@@tora148 another good trap for ghoti’s is Draco Utopian Aura, it’s a monster effect negate that destroys but you get the option to banish a card from your hand to take control of the destroyed opponents monster (its effects are negated though)

You don’t get a of card advantage sadly with this deck until the ghotis are going, so discarding for the ice jade I just found too much. BUT I do think both of those synchros are incredibly good!
It will be a 1 off in pure/WA ghoti, but if you play the coelacanth version it is a very good starter. It ends on double deep bubblereef, toad, kiif and tuners plus snopios and colossus

Also shifter is just too good not to play and you can usually activate it later in your combo since a lot of your cards get banished or get revived.
