Hola from Spain. We upped sticks & moved to the mountains of Spain 18 years ago. We fell in love with a plot of land, no house & no idea what we would live in. We lived for 6 years in a little wooden Chalet, no water, no electric, no Internet ( that was definitely not a hardship ) Never been happier, oh and no tv. We finally built a beautiful house, lived in that for 10 years, then 2'years ago we moved again & bought an old Spanish Casita unlived in for over 20 years, so simple living started all over again. It's been hard work, but opening the door in a morning makes it all worth while. I spent a lot of my childhood in Ireland, a beautiful part of the world. Good luck with your new life, keep smiling & enjoying the stars. Oh, and even though our kids think we are mad, we still don't have a tv. Love, Patricia ❤
Hola! Oh WOW so inspired by your story, thank you so much for sharing. There's really something about simple living that is so underestimated in this modern time, right? Totally get the opening the door in the morning making it worth it. Hehe love that you don't have a TV! 😍

Congratulations Cori and welcome, we are a lovely little country, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else and we are very friendly and helpful. Enjoy the experience

Thank you for the video & content. Over the years I have lived in numerous countries around the world but always been a city person. Watching this is making me question my concrete jungle preferences ☺️. Big cheers from Melbourne 🍷…
Your happiness and contentment really comes through the screen. Its going to be great watching you,as a family progress in this endeavour. Are you going to get some animals. One night back in 1973 (that was a long time ago) I stepped outside our house late at night into the darkness and saw the true night sky. I saw The Milky Way. This was the Oil Crisis time and all the street lights were off. Ive never forgotten that. It might be a Townland. One lot of my forebears lived on a townland in Co. Longford.
Ah thank you! Yes we have LOTS of plans for animals for sure. It's one of our big goals. The milkyway is certainly something to behold. I saw it for the first time just a couple of months back in Bulgaria. It'll be something I never forget, totally with you on that! Have made a note of "townland" a few others have said that too so I think we're on to a winner there 😊
Congratulations! Live life love life with no regrets. I backpacked the world until I found where I belonged, looking forward to following your journey.
Welcome to Ireland to you and your family,it will get even better with the seasonal changes, spring is just round the corner when the nature around you will really come into bloom, good luck with everything 😊
That's what I'm expecting and part of the delight of arriving in the middle of winter actually, is getting to watch it all come into bloom! Thanks so much!!
Fantastic Cori - you've made it at last! Couldn't agree more, the land is what matters and living in the country. I'm moving to Ireland this year and in process of selling my home in a big UK city! Presume you are watching West Cork Wanderer and The Corner House - lovely websites and lovely people. I'm sure you'll both be fine! Kxx
Are you?! YAY! I'm excited for you! I mean we're only a few weeks in but I have zero doubt this is the best decision we've ever made. Yes we do watch West Cork Wanderers but no, didn't know about the Corner House so I know what we're doing this evening now 😍 Thanks for the recommendation!
God bless you and welcome to Ireland. You seem to have chosen the hard way. However if you can stay positive I'm sure you will be happy and achieve your dream life, eventually.
Thank you Malcolm! Wait, there's an easy way?? 😂 Fortunately I'm good at staying positive and looking forward to the journey not just the end result. But feel free to ask me again in like a year 😂
Firstly, welcome to Ireland. Based on this video I think you will fit right in. You seem to be very grounded and have a good mix of common sense and wonder at how stunningly beautiful these remote areas are. Now for the practicality of living in remote Ireland. The people are amazing and I hope that is what you experience. Be warned, the winters are long, dark, wet, cold and did I say long ? Its the 20th April and only just now is the Sun daring to appear. I cut my lawn today for the first time, up until now it was simply too wet. I wish you both the very best in your endeavours, I'll try and watch more recent videos to see how you are coping. If you haven't got one already then I'd recommend getting a telescope. It doesn't have to be expensive, I remember using my sons "toy" telescope to explore the night sky a few years while at my Mums house in the country and its was amazing. The lack of light pollution is what makes it. Even with the naked eye you can see so much more of the night sky. It makes you feel so small...... Wishing you the best with your new project.
Thank you so much for the warm welcome and well wishes! Amazing people is indeed what I have experienced so far I am pleased to report. Yeah I feel like we arrived in the midst of a particularly long winter... but we won't be deterred! Ooh a telescope... love that suggestion, thank you!
Anything smaller than a village (which usually has at least a shop or pub) would be referenced by the townland. So, Cori who lives in whatever (townland), near wherever (village). Each county is divided into hundreds of townlands. Yeah, the milkyway is very cool and visible, from north Cork, where I live. Good luck!
Thank you! Makes it much clearer and I like to use the right phrase if I can. A lot to learn but loving that. That night sky is magical indeed isn't it?
Found your channel yesterday & watched the walk through of the cottage. I love these kinds of series, so very excited to watch. Bingeing now to catch up. I'm in the US/Florida so a cottage renovation in a country, one always dreamed of visiting, will be great viewing. Look forward to each video and the process. I recently found another channel, family like yours, renovating an abandoned train station in Wales. Love the content of both. Congratulations!
Ah yay! I love a good binge watch of other people's series so I know exactly what you mean. Hello to you in Florida. Love having people join us on this journey from around the world, makes me so happy! Ooh I'll have to check that other channel out, sounds great!
I think from a few others it does seem to be a consensus on "townland" which I appreciate now knowing, thank you! Def no shop so not a village just where we are 😊 And hello in Kerry, it's sooooo beautiful there.
No that’s not an Irish townland. A townland is a small district irrespective of whether there are houses or not. The Glen I live in has 12 townlands & half of those are mountains with nothing but sheep
Only came upon your video today so look forward to following your journey. A big welcome to Ireland and wishing you every happiness. Best wishes, Lisa, Galway think hamlet would be a townland.
Yay welcome! It's going to be an exciting journey I think!! Thank you for the welcome and wishes, it means a lot. Thanks so much re "townland", I'm learning so much!!
In England a Hamlet tends to be more like what we would call a village. A group/nest of houses grouped together and maybe a shop or pub nearby. In Ireland, most townlands don't have shops or pubs and a lot don't even have dwelling houses. An English hamlet is more akin to an Irish Village really. If you go to rural Norfolk then there are lots of areas which have names but are not really considered hamlets, they are populated by farmers who farm the local land but really they are 20 mins from the nearest shop/pub etc.
Congratulations Cori!! Ahhh the property looks STUNNING. I’ve been following along your journey for the last few months and I’m so excited to see what you do with your new place!! We’re looking at doing something similar here in Australia working towards buying land and your videos have been so inspiring to watch and make moves towards our dream. All the best for the beginning of the renovations and enjoy taking the time you need to make your home exactly how you’d like it! 🥰
Ah yay love that you've been following for a while now. I mean I'M excited to see what we do with it all too hehe. I'll be sharing our plans super soon so you can have the inside scoop. Oh I am CHEERING YOU ON doing something similar where you are! I'll want to hear how you get on 😊 Yes we will take our time with this - it isn't a sprint, that's for sure!
And with some of your land you could plant some willow and eucalyptus for firewood, 3/4 of an acre to an acre could keep you supplied. Have the happy nature balance you spoke about.
@@CoriLivestheDreamLife ps apologies if I have already said this but you should include a visit to Toonsbridge Dairy over in the Drimoleague/Macroom direction. Villages like union hall, schull devine. Not being nosey but have younapplied for tge derelict house grant. you can claim up to.70000 euro for a grant. Irish people are super friendlynand helpful, so make sure you ask for advice and help x
Thank you!! I certainly think we live in the most gorgeous part of the world and don't care if I'm biased ;) We haven't applied but are looking into it and seeing what all it involves. Irish people are the BEST and we've been so blessed with help and advice already 😍
Dia duit. Congratulations on moving to Eire. I’d love to too. A beautiful place, beautiful people and stunning culture. Slan. Ps have you every thought of being a writer?
Thank you!! Well I have written the odd thing in the past and while we were travelling I did write some poetry (no idea if it is any good lol). It's definitely the sort of place that inspires you to pick up the pen here, that's for sure
I don't think I've ever heard those two words in the same sentence before. "lovely" and "English". I'm joking, I agree, you have a delightful Sasanach accent. Very refined, don't worry you will soon be struggling to pronounce "Twenty Two and a Third" like the rest of us. ;-)
@@CoriLivestheDreamLife He has several good uploads here on YT, he may also have a podcast or at least he has been featured on podcasts (? irish passport podcast).
@@CoriLivestheDreamLife Hmmmmm very common in rural Ireland basically one neighbor asked the other could they put it just the otherside of the fence and it was no problem they flushed the toilet and forgot about it. Difficulty will be its not your land so either you can purchase it, get it as a gift or move the tank to another location as you will never be able to sell without it sorted. There might not be another location though ......which is why its there in the first place.Good luck
We did this 16 years ago and ended up coming back to the UK. Before putting too much money in, I would research the following topics: Health Service and PHI costs, Schools, Jobs, Long mileages to everything, Heat and Light, Septic Tanks, Water Supplies, Re-sale values. A nice view means nothing if you are living in poverty. Visiting and actually living somewhere are very different things. We moved over at the same time as other people and they got trapped, whereas we kept our property in the UK and was able to bail out much easier. Good luck with your venture though, it might be perfect for you.
Sorry you had a bad experience of Ireland 11 years ago, this was when the world was recovering from the financial crash of 2008, so no wonder your experience was not good, hope it improved when you got back home.
No house pics 🥲 anyway I’m sure you’re already aware but Ireland has derelict house grants.. I’m sure a local would sort you out with someone who’d dig or connect up a well for you too so you can at least get running water. Also with living rural you’ll find locals will sort you out with plenty of turf if you wanted to go the stove and back boiler route to heat your house, radiators and water. Solar can be tricky in Ireland as you alluded to yourself in the video. I think you’d like the rustic element of a stove and backboiler set up too. Oh and not too far away in Ballinskelligs in Co. Kerry there is a dark sky reserve or gold sky reserve where in there is absolute 0 light pollution and the star gazing is supposed to be out of this world. Perfect little trip if you have a camper van! Just plan ahead with a clear sky!
I know, I am DESPERATE to share the house pics too! Don't worry, bit of a hold up but will will be doing a house tour soon 😍We have been happily meeting all sorts of locals who are experts in things such as wells etc (more on that next week!). Ooh hadn't thought of the turf, good tip thank you. I think I'd like the rustic beauty of a stove and backboiler, too! I've written down Ballinskelligs, thank you so much for sharing that one. Can't wait for an adventure there in the van 😍
Extremely happy that you have found your dream home and life ,however having followed your journey from the start I am disappointed that you couldn’t even show us your new home and land .As a subscriber it is disappointing you have openly shared you his and downs finding your dream home that you couldn’t share this with your subscribers
TOTALLY get that it's disappointing not to have seen the house yet @andrealball1840 !! It's not that we don't want to. Just figuring out some things so we can find the middle ground of sharing and still preserving privacy/security and whatnot, which I'm sure you understand. I have full intentions of doing a house tour soon though, rest assured 😘

I hope I am very wrong, but after watching you, listening to you and your words. I honestly do not think that you will achieve what you are hoping to achieve regarding your Irish home dream . Only a major mindset change is going to help you fulfill your dreams and to be honest you ain’t every going to be willing to do that cos you’re never going to be willing to sacrifice yourself, or to fully commit yourself. Both parters need to be willing to suffer, forego, to endure severe hardships. I see you taking far more from your partner than ever you are going to be willing to give in order to achieve your dream. I guess what I am actually saying is that I don’t see you stood behind a cement mixer, or wheeling tons of mortar and concrete in a wheelbarrow. 🤞
Shouldn't you be more worried about people who can't/won't assimilate into your country i.e. those who hassle people eating their lunch during Ramadan?

I am with you that countryside is bliss for me too! Do love popping into a town or occasionally a city, but for me the peacefulness is good for the soul! Yeah you're so right about the wet gear! No such thing as bad weather and all that 😂 Thanks so much for well wishes. That campsite is Top of the Rock 😍
A very warm welcome or as gaelige chead mile failte to the shamrock shore with your wonderful attitude all things are possible but be advised when some tradesmen might issue you with a time in Ireland that could be anytime best of luck in your adventures
Welcome to.Ireland Cori. I love your enthusiasm and joi de vive.. I think your living in west cork which is tge most gorgeous part of the world. Towns like clonakilty, kinsale are gorgeous.
Irish people are the BEST and we've been so blessed with help and advice already 😍
welcome to Ireland 🌨🌨🌨🌨🥶👍😁
Hehe she's blustery right now but no less beautiful for it
Hope ye’d a nice walk down to “the rapids”
Welcome home
Wow... that made me well up. It really does feel like a homecoming.
@@CoriLivestheDreamLife Ireland will do that to you, excited to follow your journey, enjoy
@@PaulBrennan. thank you and glad you'll be following along!
You are very welcome to Ireland but I am confused. You spend years in Spain yet you have a lovely English accent. ☘️☘️
I don't think I've ever heard those two words in the same sentence before. "lovely" and "English". I'm joking, I agree, you have a delightful Sasanach accent. Very refined, don't worry you will soon be struggling to pronounce "Twenty Two and a Third" like the rest of us. ;-)
Insulation is key!buy Insulation plasterboard.
YES! Good tip, thank you!!
❤
A recommended read before doing work on the land would be An Irish Atlantic Rainforest by Eoghan Daltan
Great suggestion - about to write the same. BTW, it'sEoghan DaltUn.
Oh my days that's such a coincidence... I literally saw that in a bookshop today and it caught my eye. That's decided then, I'll get it! Thank you!!
@@CoriLivestheDreamLife He has several good uploads here on YT, he may also have a podcast or at least he has been featured on podcasts (? irish passport podcast).
Where in Ireland?
Having a rooster 🐓 would be a bad idea they are noisy 😂😂😂
That's my worry! So far our rooster is not too antisocial... but we'll see ;)
Welcome to Ireland.
From an English guy from Cornwall, now in West Cork.

Where about in Eire are you?

Does the house have a septic tank?.......good luck
The answer is yes and no... haha! It did but now it seems that it is on someone else's land maybe?! 😂
There might not be another location though ......which is why its there in the first place.Good luck
boreen may be the word you are looking for
Ooh! Thank you!
Fáilte go hÉirinn welcome to ireland
Thank you!! 😊
Hamlet = townland... although technically no town!!
Ooh thank you, now I can use the correct lingo!! 🙏
There is a halting site just up the road from you. Good luck.
The bible is written about Ireland, its Gods land.
Now I'm here I believe you to be speaking the truth. It really is.
@@CoriLivestheDreamLife Mark, John, David, Luke, Matthew etc aren't Israelis names, the capital of Scotland is Edinburgh which is really Eden Borough, I live in the garden of Eden in the north near the Giants Causeway which was built by giants, its definitely Gods land and he's coming back real soon.
What a pathetic comment.
Thanks mate for taking the time out of your day to cheer me on, I appreciate it 😂😂😂
Fáilte róimh in Éirinn !

Eh not for a beautiful blonde English girl it's not. Don't be a spa.
and you are full of shyte
Shouldn't you be more worried about people who can't/won't assimilate into your country i.e. those who hassle people eating their lunch during Ramadan?
Your enthusiasm and vision will carry you through, even on those days when it feels overwhelming. 🏚❤🏡🐓🐔🐣🐑🐄🐐
Thank you Jane! Hoping that proves to be true 😍
