This was so clever!!! I really liked this solution to “joining the funnel club”
Thank you so much!
I know I’m a little late to the party, but I really loved this one! Brilliant save!
Thank you very much!
Sometimes mistakes are a blessing. A wonderful piece. I do love your inlay pieces. 😊❤🙏🇦🇺🐨
Thanks 😊
I love this amazing bowl. The matching inlays are amazing. The blue in the sodalite is beautiful with that type of wood! Great job! Bravo!
Thank you so much 😀
I really love, love this bowl. The inlay in the bottom of the bowl is beautiful. I would want this bowl for myself. You are very talented.
Thank you very much!
"much love"... Yer... There s much love in yur way of working.
Beyond yur skills... Beyond yur wish to do it correctly... Professionally speaking.
That s what makes a nice personality. A man who found his place in the world.
Yur a lucky guy for sure...
Tks again for this new bowl.
Meeting of cherry tree, walnut and blue sand is very "apeasant" ... "Quiet" for eyes and... Soul. As a light smile from deep canadian forest may I say.
(Even I never visited canada. Neither usa where my ancestors are coming from...)
Thanks again Jean-Charles!
Very much pleasing to the eye, and warm too.
Thanks for the lesson Jim
My pleasure! Thanks
That’s landing on your feet! Love the colors, not bothered by the match of the grains. Cool bowl!
Thank you! Cheers!
Taking Oh No to an Oh Yes!!! Beautifully done.
Lol, thank you!
Hi Jim I like the bowls inlay and I like the middle inlay of cherry branch's and the soda light and brass inlay they both look really cool the finish of the bowl is awesome. I'd say all your bowls and other things you make are magnificent I love watching you turn. Thats an amazing amount of sandpaper for quite a smallish area. Thanks for another awesome video Jim xx Amanda
Thanks for watching
You have so many great ideas for fixing the worst of the best
Thanks 😊
Love your resin work, but the inlays are the best. Thanks for sharing.
Should be another on in a couple of weeks. Thanks
I just got to say after backing up to what you do and how well you do it your the man Jim. Wow i sent your link to my daughter and told her you go from here putting a beautiful bottom on a bowl to resins to really changing fire wood to something anyone would love to own..my daughter and wife doesn't know that i want them to own your art
Thanks! Anytime your interested in getting a piece send me an email to spraguewoodturning@gmail.com
I love this look! You should do some more with the decorative bottoms. ❤
Thank you so much!
A nice repair and lovely job matching to the other inlay. It's relaxing to watch you work 🥰 you take such care with your work 💖
Thank you very much
You should go through the bottoms of more of your bowls because this one with the walnut contrast and iPlayer bottom is beautiful. Great save love it
Thanks 😊
It's definitely a save but I think you actually made the bowl much more attractive. Never heard of sodalite. Now I know. It suits the cherry very well. Thanks.
There a good match. Thanks!
GREAT LOOKING BOWL VERY VERY NICE FROM DOUG
Fleets Wood Shop thanks Doug!
Beautiful! Excellent workmanship.
Thanks 😊
When sanding hard materials like sodalite use ceramic sandpaper with a hard backing paper.
Ceramic sandpaper creates very little heat. The good stuff has a friable grit so stays sharp. Sodalite looks gorgeous in your fantastic bowl. You proved my mantra, there is no such thing as a mistake only an opportunity to make something better.
So true, mistakes do make opportunities! Thanks for the info. Jim
Glad to know I’m not the only one bottoming out
Been there once or twice, lol.
Do love this colour inlay with the copper, brilliant save of a bowl..
Thank you very much!
Jim you have got a great eye when it comes to fixing your funnel bowl 😅
Thanks James!
You’re a magician! Great save!
Thanks Steve!
Nicely done! I also appreciate the info on the fridge kiln.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks
It looks like it could become a mandala. Beautiful.
Agreed, thanks!
That is one pretty bowl - almost makes me want to see you do something similar on purpose and not just to save one
Thanks so much!
Fab inlay ! bro she is pure art man !
Thanks!
I can't believe how gorgeous this bowl ended up! I love the Sodalite and Brass against the Cherry wood. Nice job! And nice save! 💜
Thanks Tracy!
Great Bowl, as to the kiln I think if you put a dimmer switch between your controller and the bulb you could use a 100 watt bulb and adjust the temperature more gradually and precisely without changing bulbs...just a suggestion! Great job and love the channel...very inspirational!!
Now I only use 100w bulbs and control them with the controller. At higher temps I use two 100w bulbs, thanks. Jim.
I love that little piece of walnut under the cherry. I probably would have done it to size, and negated the inlay. But the inlay is also an ingenious option for saving the bowl.
Thanks Thomas, not everybody’s a fan of the inlay stuff, there’s a lot of purists out there 😜😜
@@SpragueWoodturning I love taking crushed stone like rose quartz to use in my projects. I used to use them on carving eggs. Now, if I get situated enough to be able to set my own resin, I know this can be done.
Jim, that inlay is stunning.
Thank you very much!
Very pretty looks great!❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful work
Thank you very much!
I have 3 bowls that I went through the bottom and was thinking of the same fix using a plug of contrasting wood but had not considered an inlay. Excellent save! Your videos are very helpful and I am glad I found your channel!
Tex
Thanks Tex!
Stunning! ❤❤❤
Thank you very much!
I just found you on You Tube this weekend and I have been binge watching you down here in San Diego, Ca. Picking up logs, inlaying shells, wire, pewter and what not... I have watched them all. All your bowls look great. I love the branch inlays as well. Thank you so much for sharing.
Awesome! Thanks Thom!
Lemonade from lemons. Great video.
Thank you very much
I just knew you come up with a beautiful fix!
Thanks 😊
Beautiful Jim
Thanks 😊
This is so unique. I'm tickled that it went from funnel to fabulous. One of my Favorite pieces. I'd like to see more bottom inlays. The Salad might be gone but when you look into the empty bowl you get a special surprise.
Totally, thanks!
I could never spoil one of these gorgeous bowls.
The cherry you use is absolutely gorgeous. I certainly wouldn't have guessed that it had been funneled and repaired. I would have thought it was creative and unique, which it is!
That’s the idea 😉😉
Came out beautiful
Thanks 🙏
Really liked your fix. Nice job.
Thanks George!
Nice fix well done as usual
Thanks 🙏
Nice way from an OOPS to a great looking bowl!!
It sure is, thanks 🙏🏻

Great! Thanks!
Great looking repair and content
Thanks Jim!
Love the inlay ❤️
Thanks mike!
Nice save Jim
Thanks 🙏
have made my funnels i like to call them infundibuliform bowls, slightly unrelated i am working on my first inlay with Pewter inspired by a previous video of yours. i have learned so much from you and other youtubers. i thank you and all the others in exploring this turning adventure. keep up the good awesome work.
Thanks Ryan, glad I can help, Jim.
Wow. I love the sodalite too!
Thanks 😊
Beautiful recovery Jim.. Hopefully this will inspire more bowl makers to save their funnels. And thanks for the continued updates on the kiln - really useful.
Thanks Gareth, I never like to give up on a bowl!
That’s just gorgeous Jim..I know it’s fiddly and a repair but oh boy it was worth it ,so glad you repaired it ,I thought you would have just put it to one side..Great work love it 🥰
It sure is pretty, thanks again!
This came out so awesome
What a wonderful way to take an accident and create a bowl that rises beyond what the orbital would have been. I wonder if maybe router deliberate patterns up and down the sdes. Like a swirl on the outside or inside of a bowl. This one came out so beautiful.
I meant original not orbital. Lol
This was enough work without adding to it, haha. Thanks.
You are real artist , I love your style in wood turning, with all confidence 🙏
Thanks 🙏
What an exquisite “happy accident!” Beautiful results.
Thanks 🙏
That blue sodalite and brass was phenomenal, great save! Never would know about the hole.
That’s the idea, thanks 🙏
That is a GREAT recovery! I too am a member of the funnel club. Next time I will definitely be trying this out.
We all are eventually, lol.
You a very smart guy to be able to recover from that mistake. great content 👌
Thank you 🙏
Great result
Thanks 😊
Hi, I just fell across your channel and now I’m here to stay. I love the way you incorporate different items into the bowls, gems, stones, resin, glue etc...they look fantastic! Never heard of anyone changing a fridge to a dryer? Something I may have to look into! Well done, the bowl came up a treat! Cheers, Sean
Great! Thanks Sean
Amazing job
Thanks 😊
Great comeback!! 😂😂😂
Thanks!
Holy crap I can’t get over how shiny your bowls are! Your work is amazing brother. I did get some of the wood bowl finish you use and am looking forward to using it soon!
If you use it like I do and use 0000 steel wood between coats it should be great 👍
That is a beautiful bowl. Almost makes me want to go turn a funnel so I can join the club! 😃😃 I’m sure I will be a member someday soon. Now I will know what to do about it. Thanks for the information! Great video! 👍👍👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
I rarely do this now, but sometimes when I’ve not had enough coffee, it’s funnel day, lol. Jim 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Your videos are always so interesting, educational and entertaining. That bowl is gorgeous...I love the blue soda-lite inlay.
Thanks, sodalite is a really nice inlay.
I liked the darker wood as a base so at least to me it was an added bonus to see an OOPS turned into a contrasting base for the bowl that added character.
I agree, I also like the contrasting colors too, thanks.
Nice save Jim. Looks great. Enjoyed as always.
Thanks Dave!
Beautiful job looks awesome
Thank you so much!
Perfect timing for this video. Just a few days ago I joined the "funnel" club. Wasn't difficult at all!! It was a very small bowl, about 3 inch diameter. I drilled a pilot hole through the bottom so it was a clean hole. Then I made a base something like a wine glass and glued it to the bowl. Now it looks like a chalice. Yours looks really nice!! Sometimes it's good to make mistakes!!
Wonderful! That will work too, good save, Jim.
Nice save! No matter how much experience we have, we make the occaional funnel! Did one recently, that I repaired with a plug and a pool of colored resin instead of inlay.
We certainly all do make mistakes, lol. Thanks 🙏🏻
as anew turner i have made many funnels but i was able to save them, with a foot ,i like your sanding block, thanks,BM,aka woodbutcher
Thanks Bryan!
What a great save! Well done!!
Thanks 🙏
Fascinating.
Thanks for watching
Love it you always do a grate job
Thanks again!
Another great job. Really appreciate your thorough explanations.
Awesome thanks 🙏
Stunning! Thank you very much for sharing.
No problem, your welcome. Jim
Beautiful bowl Jim.
Thanks Tim!
Looks awesome Jim
Thanks!
One hell of a repair. Looks great.
You never would know, would you? Thanks.
BRILLIANTLY DONE! 👏That bowl is worth spending money on! I WANT it! 😍😍
It’s nice! Thanks
Do you have an online store front?
Just my website but it’s sold out right now. My main source of income is going around to juried art shows here in Ontario but everything is canceled this year. I’m in the process of making finished bowls now and hope to have lots for sale here soon. I’m also debating on starting a Etsy account and doing TH-cam full time and just selling on Etsy. Jim.
Sprague Woodturning I highly recommend Etsy!!!! I buy a great deal off of Etsy from around the world. It’s an awesome platform to display your superior world class products next to others. It also makes it easier for people to purchase items because of the many payment platforms. Some people also have personal websites that offer more products. But most, if asked, will set up one-off items on Etsy.
You, sir are an artist. Thank you
Thanks Bill!
That inlay with the cherry looks great!
It’s a beauty! Thanks.
Beautiful bowl, great result
I have done a few similar repairs and decorated the repair with colouring and Robert Sorby texturing tools but I love your inlay work
Thanks James!
That is a beautiful bowl!
Thanks James.
Neat recovery
Thanks 🙏
Wow an amazing bowl brilliant again, be safe
Thanks George!
from funnel to fun bowl or reusabowl welldone
Thanks Dave!
That’s beautiful, I wish all my mistakes turned out as gr8 as yours 😁👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks 🙏
Ok so now I know what to do with my "funnels" - lol - very cool and thanks for sharing
Do t give up on those funnels, lol.
Nice job.
Thanks 🙏
great video
Thanks auntie, lol.
Solid surface counter top material works great crushed for inlays and it doesn't dull the tools like the mineral products
Thanks for the info.
That is some hard rock! Turned out really nice. Been there done that! Cheers from MT.........
It’s pretty tough stuff, lol. Thanks 🙏
I really appreciate your clarity of understanding and workmanship. Is it something to do with the video but are you working on the right side of your bowls instead of left?
I’m left handed and work on the outboard of my 20” General lathe, thanks 🙏🏻
that is really nice!!!
Thanks for watching
It is absolutely stunningly beautiful and magnificent.
Thanks Kobie!
gorgeous 😍
Thanks 😊
Hello from Mississauga. Another great Friday video Jim. Excellent save. Love the sodalite look. Had actually never heard of that material before. BTW, love all the colours of your new T-shirts! very fancy 😁 LOL!
Thanks, I designed them myself, lol.
