I’m a mountain biker and love your videos! This is cool. Great job. You made it! Seat up when climbing helps, but I find myself climbing seat down on my Ebike, feet closer to the ground always gives you that confidence to go faster🤘🏻

Hey dude, climbing with the seat down is terrible for your knees, and waaay less efficient. Also you shouldn't be scared to climb, descending is the far scarier part haha

I've been into diy ebikes for 2 years now and I'm saving to build one myself since Sur Rons in Europe, if not registered, are only offroad legal, you can't ride them on the street with no registration and license and get away with it. So it's very exciting to see you step into the Diy ebike theme. That's some amazing content to look forward to!
same bruh. Only thing I'm afraid of with DIY are the battery fires lol. Don't want a multi-thousand dollar investment to go up in flames.
@@painexotic3757 Make sure you buy a battery with battery cells from a certified company like Samsung or LG. Cheap chinese batteries are the ones that burst into flames and burn houses. And probably look to buy it from a certified site too or even better, from a shop close to you.
Sure you can, just avoid cops and ride slower during the day and faster during the evening/Night when there is less people around report you.
It will be this 1 time getting caught by cops for not having a licence plate which is enough for your bike to be gone, you can't always escape them
sur rons are not road legal in any US state to my knowledge (might be a few exceptions). they are not mopeds because of power/speed/lack of pedals. I dont know how people get away with not being registered/insured, etc
Probably in many states you could equip them with road legal lights/mirrors, register/insure them, but no one seems interested in that

I have owned a Bafang BBS 2 mid-drive 750 watt kit with Panasonic 10.6 Ah battery. Used it on more than one bike. Absolutely fantastic. More bulky and heavy than what is shown here, but for a unit that is over 5 years old, it is a weapon. It has never let me down.
In saying that, I'm tempted by the lighter and more compact Photon!

When I usually climb hills with my acoustic dollar store mountain bike, i usually would recommend to start at a high gear, gain speed, then right before hitting the hill lower the gear. I'm not a expert biker, but this usually works for me!

I have a BBS02 on my Kona Stinky and love it. My only complaint is its size so if I ever need to replace it then the Photon seems like a good option!

I started with a cyc x1 pro two years ago and after seeing your Chanel i upgraded to a sur ron but i love both my bikes
Awesome vid, nice to see the Photon in action! Great choice with CYC motor and BMW battery combo. I guess 12Ah should be decent capacity for 750w but when you start running it over 1000w you'll want more capacity to help with voltage sag. Also fyi I don't think they pronounce it "psych" motor, but it does sound pretty cool that way, heh.
just a tip to get faster and easier to pedal lock out the front forks and add more compression to the rear shock

On my Surley Wednesday fatbike conversion, I used 2" wide pipe wrap tape to secure the triangle battery to the frame, Sounds half ass, but like yours, it works real well. Then I had a shop sew me a vinyl cover for it, so it like like a frame bag not a battery.
You need to check out the Chimera BMX. That would probably be a good fit for you.

The part when you showed the kid and his replica was so great, The video of your red surron before was the very first video that I came to know your channel.
You should look into a MTB bike that has a mid drive HD bafang motor on it because it has pedal assist and throttle assist as well to because I’ve bought one with that motor on it and when switching gears on the bike it’s self then it becomes more faster.

no he didn't - it is ACTUALLY called a shaft, and you DO slide it in - you just have a dirty mind
on the hill climb, extend the seat post so your weight is balanced better over the front and you will make it to the top easier
Awesome video. I am also a SoCal local. :) This is a great video on how to get started with the DIY electric mountain bike setup. I love Surron's but there is no way you are going to get away with riding one on the local mountain bike trails around here without getting a lot of complaints from mountain bikers and the cops. This setup solves the problem. Its still a mountain bike with the addition of the fast motor but keeping it stealth. That will get you on the trails without the harrasment.
I just built up a full (Downhill) full suspension mountain bike with the mid-drive motor, 52v battery and it is FAST! So much fun, super quiet, looks like a mountain bike, no complaints. Top speed is around 35mph. It will climb any hill no problem. Bike model is the YT Tues. Best bike I ever built! Ton of fun!

There are “Chinese options” for bolt-on too. Bafang and Tongsheng. I have both these motors, one with 750w and one with 500. Pretty strong community as well for these motors.

Try standing up when going up the hill and lean forward into the hill to keep the front wheel down. On the mtb gears you want the chain on the physically biggest gear when climbing and stand up on the peals with your weight forward.

for an hill climb go in a harder to pedal gear to get speed then get into a lower gear to climb up keep weight on the back wheel for traction
