Illegal 3000W 72V E-Bike Build Conversion Kit

- Putting together a 3000W rear hub drive electric bike. 16AH 72V battery. It is illegal to use on public roads in most countries. This one will be used off road only. The most important part of this build is the custom torque arms. With this much power, the small torque arms can snap the dropouts on this frame that was never designed to have power put through it like this at 11:17. From stop, if you twist it to 1/4 throttle or more, the bike will pop the front wheel up and flip you over. It is very unsafe, I wouldn't recommend doing this build to anyone, it just doesn't make sense.

Nice video! I used UPP cell batteries on my ebike and atv, and they are extremely well built as seen in tear-downs. Highlighy recommended. They make universal tq arms I show in my bike video. Yours are gnarly, and in a good way- should have room to grow with that setup; thank you!
Upp are poor quality. Banned in UK for fire hazard.
@@Tomas-ml9nv It's like places banning Juul, they just target the biggest manufacturer representing a market. I've used, tested, opened many lithium battery packs. UPP , in my experience, uses better BMCs, double solder points on cells, and they're internal wiring further showcases their workmanship. Others I've purchased have came w wrong power supply, have shody wiring or BMC failed. And even more I've purchased were actually UPP batteries rebranded. Nonetheless appreciate your reply and input! whatcha using in your builds?
Did the same but with a 1500w motor on my mountain bike. 35mph feels scary on a bicycle but really fun at the same time.
@Bikes0420 there is nothing the law can do man.
You can do up to 50 mph before bicycle frame without proper wheel alignment, balancing etc will become unstable and you start getting wobble in the front
@@user-oy9zy4ds9m i start feeling a bit unstable only im approaching 40mph downhill at full throttle, i limited the bike to not go beyond 35 and generally with the resistance of the motor it wont go faster than that even downhill.
Yeah I got 3000w ebike with 52v 28.8ah 29er on slicks it will do 45mph and you can feel how light the steering is because of trash weight balancing
Wanna upgrade the battery to 72v at 40ah but unsure as the balance of the bike is way to far back for my liking
I made my torque plates and bolted them straight into the frame. 10000 watt hub and controller. 84v main and 12 vt booster all together 96v

Everything is different, The brakes are 205mm rotors
I wired the lights and turn signals. It outruns most mopeds but I never race.
You should be able to swap the 5 speed cassette with an 8 speed one and have it take up the same amount of space. The 8 and 5 speed are the same size, just on the 8 each chainring is closer together.
Edit: Also, pretty sure the pedal assist sensor goes on the opposite side of the cranks to the front cassette.
I put basically the same motor on a stealth type frame in 2021 (3000w) and I love it. It's my daily driver...weather permitting. The frame is quite heavy of course but I decided to go for something that absolutely wouldn't fatigue over time. I wish more people could experience how much fun these big motors are, thanks for posting.
This is like a daydream I have about building one! Very nice

@BoscoLe not of yet lol admittedly I missed last part as the phone rang the door knocked and I needed a forest gump.
I never had problems with my axel drop out. Only made one side torque arm set up
Pretty cool.. Yeah, some controllers you can program to have milder start up or delayed power at take off. Or the display will actually have settings for take off sensitivity.
This is great to know
The pedal sensor is designed for the left side and seats in to the bb
Yes, that is correct on my ebike DIY build you will see I put it on the non-drive side.
Should i do 3kw or 5kw?
Were you eventually able to get rid of the check engine light?
Having a check engine light on your display can be due to multiple factors. You should look for the error code written on the screen and refer to your display manual to see what is the error related to.
As for the pedal assist sensor and magnets don't put it on the crank side put it on the other side that's what I did and it works just fine
How is it climbing steep hills?

Can this be put on a regular 20" ebike? Would putting it on the front wheel for front wheel drive be more stable?
Probably not since the motor is so big, front would be fine but would put a lot of force on the fork.
Looks like there is 20" versions of 3000w, scary.

Very good point to check.
I was in the same trouble. I had to grind and reshape dropout too. Very hard.
Hello mate im a fan, absolutely love the brillant torque arm design but i have got one question. How do you stretch out the frame by 2.5cm like what u mentioned in the video.
By pulling it with your hands, its not permanently stretched, and its not good for the frame.

6:00 If they had stored the velcro straps wrapped around the bag as apposed to around itself it would have been more obvious how they are supposed to be used to secure the bag. The velcro goes on top. at 6:13 you have the bag upside down trying to install the bag as though you'd be wearing it as a fanny pack. Advantage, leaves space on frame, disadvantage, puts all the weight on the rear tire, front end would be very light.
Hallo, erstmal, wie hast du eigentlich das Hinterrad hineinbekommen? Put it on the left. Flip the PAS magnet over.
5 speeds on a 3kw hub is actually decent. Many are so large they're strictly 1x
Sounds like a lot i might as well just get a acutel motorcycle, for as much money as this will cost right?
No, its not that expensive. But for many other reasons a motorcycle is a much better idea.
Yes friendly advice you can't stick pieces of metal on top of weak metal and claim that is strengthened it because it won't what you've done without sounding rude is you bogged it what you should really do is cut the whole part out and put in stronger metal you're basically Dublin the speed of the bike but you're not doubling the strength of the frame to carry that and you will pay the consequences because you'll start cracking Worlds stability at high speeds my device is cut the whole back part out and easy peasy to world of fresh bit in you can weld it wider to fit the wheel in and you can weld it stronger which will last and will be a solid piece of metal always always uses less metal as possible because that's where your strength comes not by putting one piece on top of another piece unless it runs down the whole length of the frame good luck don't gamble your life on I'm sure that'll be alright
You're wrong, I'm right. Buy us an aluminum welder and training and I might do what you said.
@porkecon is right because these hub motors are not powerful enough to rip apart whole rear triangle of aluminum mtb frame. These torque arms ar mainly to strengthen dropouts because without toque arms you will break original dropout slots when accelerating and motor will rip off it's own wires😂 cool project btw
Bike name like the bike u put the conversion on?

yes it has a lot of torque
I don't understand why you build something like this if you are so negative. Then spend more money on better parts, frame, controller, etc. Btw, you don't have to install the pedal assist if you have a throttle

Why do people use disc brakes on bikes?? Doesnt the v-brake have way more stopping force because it is farthest from the center of the rotation? This is just basic physics. Or do people get discs for vanity?
Rim brakes are good yes, discs allow you to have a more predictable braking surface, better modulation, better pad material that you can't use on rim brakes. Way to many reasons to go disc when the only reason to go with rim is the distance from centre of rotation.
Biggest advantage would be if he installed hydraulic brakes. Mech disk brakes are about the same stopping power as good v-brakes, but the disks do work a little better under certain conditions, like if the rim gets wet.
@@miket.220 th-cam.com/video/NCdobNDttMM/w-d-xo.html
V brakes are fine for pedal bikes. Leverage isn't the only factor to consider. Pad surface area and cooling play as much if not more of a role in terms of stopping power. That's why you don't see v brakes on motorcycles. You won't even see them on manufactured e-bikes unless they're cheap or underpowered. That little thin strip of rubber operated by cables is not sufficient enough when you add a 30lb+ motor serving as an unsprung flywheel outputting 10 times as much power as your legs can do. V brakes are designed for leg power, pedal bike weight and speed. Disc brakes are designed for high speed performance on a motorcycle or downhill racing mtb. A good set of hydraulic disc brakes vs v brakes is like the difference between night and day on an e-bike this size.

Hey man, decent build and good tutorial, i was considering something like this but also was worried about the frame handling the torque, so my theory has been to downgrade to a 1500w 48/52v and just be happy with that for some fun around town and off road weekend rides, do you think i can get away without using a torque arm, or would you say to at least use the original 🤷🏽♂️👍🏽
yep, 1500w is great, 3000w is overkill. My friend has about 6 eBikes right now and he uses the 1500w the most
@@porkerconthan you for your quick response 🙏🏽👍🏽with or without torque arm, I also know of the trick to remove the plastic spacer on the disc brake side from factory, but I'm having slight issues, so the rim fits my frame with all the nuts and spacers but the spacers only fit outside of the frame if I put 1 behind and the other outside with the nut it won't fit between my drop out but it is the correct hub for my drop out,,, any suggestions please.
I'm not sure @@DarkTriad6
I have a 1500W/52V kit (does about 1750W fully charged), you're gonna need at least 1 torque arm, or it might spin out of the fork at full power...perhaps not directly, but certainly over the months. I haven't removed my wheel in 2 years since I built it
If you're gonna use regen braking, you might even need two torque arms, as the force applied reverses when braking.

Such an inspiring comment. Not very hard to swap this onto a different frame down the road when the BUDGET for this build gets HIGHER.
Tbh with a triangle battery 72v that size, you’d struggle to find a full suspension bike that could fit the battery, you’d have to get a 48v

All that extra strength? Off road use only? My 3000w motor with an 80 amp controller on a 72v 20 a/h battery does 65 mph on a 25 year old Kona mountain bike and I use it everyday to go to work on. Most times I am at full speed going to work and I only use 2 torque arms with no welded frames for extra strength as its over kill and it's perfectly safe if you know how to handle the immense power it can throw at you. Nothing is too powerful !
