Ola, set your White Balance to a fixed setting, instead of auto. The ever shifting color temperature really bothers me, and probably many other people too. Still love you, though, and this is an otherwise killer video, as usual ;)

I have the manual here, it says you have to plug a Metal Zone as a preamp in the effect loop return and Burp the name of Satan 6 times.
It does not say that. I found a PDF of the manual and there is no mentioning of those requirements for any sort of specific tone. Maybe you are mistaken.

It's weird to analyze a Dime demo cause I honestly don't love how his tone sounded by itself, outside a track.
But he was a genius, cause in the mix that shit sounded brutal, huge, violent, heavy and evil.
I'm actually impressed with how much range the knobs gave. When he rolled the bass off it literally had none. A lot of amps don't give you that range.

It's seriously impressive for a solid state rig, and it's interesting that the overdrive sounds good with it since normally using those for a clean boost is meant to push tubes more. I think I'd still miss the tube feel if I were playing it. Nothing compares.

During the damage plan days (and possibly Pantera as well) Dimebag used an Mxr zakk wylde od. There is a video of him showing off his pedal board and he talked about using it to thicken up the sound.

Solar Guitars should do a version of the Dime guitar...obviously his name couldnt be on it, but it could be a nod to Dime in its design

The name and the shape are trade marked. He would need approval from Randall and Rita to be able to do this. And deviating from the original stealth shape would be just stupid so no it won't happen. I would buy a randall one but too bad they are not making them anymore.
I had no idea that the tuning was drop G in "the underground in america". I always thought that some type of octaver/harmonizer was used. I guess I learned something today!
its not drop g, its octave G. totally different. That means his whole guitar is in D standard (well, below a bit like usual pantera tuning) except his 6th string which is down to G.
The “By demons be driven” part was amazing, you get a tone which was pretty close to the Dimebag’s one in the song, you made this amplifier chug great job 🤘
The black guitar that ola is holding, the Dean From Hell and, the Dimondplate design are the best designs Dime has made up for my opinion. I know that the last 2 guitars i mentioned were not in the video. But i didn't wanna leave my other favorite guitars.
Fast forward five years and ola launched his own x type guitars, which one of them arrives within the next four weeks in front of my doorstep 🥰

I agree. According to the video's that you made this one (the X2) does sound a hell of a lot better then the first Randall Warhead (closer to Dime's sound). Although i can totally see the first Warhead being used in a Stoner/Sludge type of situation as it sort of has that sound. The X2 has more of a high-gain sound imo.
The clean channel is all he used. He never stopped using his rg100s and century 200s for his dirty sound. He would switch to the warheads and the 2x12 1x15 cabs for clean stuff.

yes he did. In damageplan he didn't use an rg or century at all. he used a titan, an x2, and a mts modular for clean. Then right before he passed, he switched to kranks.
You can tell right away it's got that Dimebag punchiness to it. It's the Bill Lawrence pickup. I have a Washburn Dime 3 Dimeslime signed by the whole band. It's in the shop finally after sitting in the case for years. Finally gonna start jamming on it again.

WTH, this amp sounds way different than any other amp. It kinda weirdly (unique) scoops mids and even Ola's "all amps sound the same" power doesn't work.

Ola only does two tones: The Dime tone and the Ola/Satan tone

I must have tried a screwed up one back in the day, when it came out.
I couldn't wait for this to come out! I remember being super disappointed with the floor model in the store! It did not have much distortion at all! If you turned the gain up it just fell apart.

Well, in the video, where he came to Australia and tried out most of the Dime guitars the dude had - you pretty much can hear the difference in sound, so, that kinda counts as one.

Hey, Ola! You should really do a side-by-side of all Dime's Amps without any effects and see which one sounds most like Dime's tone.

- Randall Century 200
- Randall Warhead
- Randall X2
- Krank Krankenstein
- Dime Amplification
- Randall RG1503 (I know this isn't a Dime amp, but I heard it's supposed sound a lot like the old RG 100 HT)
Dial these amps up to what you think gets closest to Dime's tone, play with them with the same guitar (with the Bill Lawrence bridge pickup) and same Pantera riff, so we can hear the difference between all of these.

Notice Ola says it sounds killer now once he has the knobs mostly in the green. I have a couple of these heads and the matching cabs. Great Dime tone without all the hassle of the earlier equipment.

When dime played Slaughtered or many of his chugging riffs he would put pressure on the floyd rose making the note a bit higher. You can hear it in the recording
Yes I noticed that too. A lot of his chugging palm mutes sound higher because of the pressure. By demons be driven for example

You should try it with the PQ-4 and 6 band EQ he used these on Reinventing The Steel and the Early part of the Damageplan tours. Also used 2 Randall Titan heads in a wet/dry setup with the X2 as the Main Dirty and 2 RM-100 heads for clean.

Gonna have to get the wife set up to tweak the phasers and get the dime squeals goin. Think they should be called Dimonics or, get u pull bends. Still alot of mourning for the best and heaviest known brother duo in metal here in Texas. I'd like to think their passing would unearth or rotate a new greatness in the metal scene. I equipped my old bass amp with a similar position marker feature. Mine was a pink paint pen and I only did it because my son was young at the time and he thought he would help daddy out by making sure all the dials were pointed straight up.
The Fortin just absolutely transforms it into the best chug machine I've ever heard. Wow.
Ola Dimebag used cabs with 15” speakers. So one 4x12 and one 2x15”. Looks like you really need it too.

I remember you answering a question a while back about making a Dimebag guitar with Solar, and you said no, saying that it wouldn't be right for you to do it. How about instead of making an actual Dimebag model, you could just make something like a Star-shaped model, to honor his legacy. You already have an Explorer type, and a Rhoadsy V type, why not include the Star as well, making the holy trinity of pointy shape guitars?
Personally, I'm not a fan of Star shapes, but I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who are, and maybe they don't like Deans, Washburns, or Jacksons, and want something a bit different. That's probably the reason that most people come to Solar guitars, they want something different from the others. Just some food for thought, Cheers Ola!

Its the reference pitch of the open A string in hz. A "true" western A = 440hz. Thats what an A from a brass instrument, woodwind, keyboard, MIDI, xylophone, standard tuning fork, etc. That is what makes one thing in tune with another. Bands have done the slightly off tuning thing forever...its hard to make the needle a little flat across the strings consistently, but lowering the reference point from A440 to A432 or A425 or whatever you choose is better. Now you can have easily repeatable results. Need to have a tuner, obviously.

Are you sure your dbmeter is reliable ? 70 db is like a crossroad with a lot of traffic and 106 db is like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club going full blast live. The numbers you get seems a bit high to me.

Someone linked his db meter in the last qa video and it was somewhere around a $700 unit. So I'd think it's probably accurate.

I believe you, actually, but it feels incredibly loud. At 106 db, we are past the "wear hearplugs" point, we enter the "be careful not to blow out your windows" point.
Not just because it's expensive, but because nobody would buy it for that price if it didn't have a reputation for accuracy. You can get db displays that looks similar for around $50, but those will obviously lack accuracy. The fact that this is a very well reviewed db unit at it's pricepoint and people would rather pay 12 times the price for this rather than a similar looking cheaper unit is a claim to it's accuracy.

Thanks so much for the videos about the dime sounds and amps. I have tried a lot of different things. Especially on a budget. I always wanted a warhead but now, no. Its not even worth it. I have a RH200 amp head and a peavey 5150 cabinet. They work very nice together. I gave up trying to sound like dime because no one can. He was just unique. But I came into my own trying to sound like him so theres that. Anyways keep up the good work.

Do you have the MXR Flanger Doubler? That's what truly makes these amps sound like Dime. There's a reason J from Zombie switched to that doubler too.
