I need to say it: Move is an iPad App! I use longtime Ableton Note and everything what we see can be done on an iPad in an App. Of course, plenty of people love to have something in their hands, but it's sad that Ableton not just do that in an iPad App and everything can save $449. So maybe in the future they think about that.

@@callum6224 Thanks. That's a pitty. But i guess I could do sound design in Live and then transfer as user presets to the move. Technically, all sound design parameters should be in the box, it just doesn't have a user interface to use them.
I would say it’s an amazing modern version of the novation circuit. I can’t think off the top of my head any other groovebox in this price range with so much polyphony. And 256 steps worth of sequencer!
Yeah I mean, normal complaints about this and that but at this price point I think this is a home run, isn’t it? And a lot more is coming. Note has a hefty feature roadmap. Incredibly well designed app.
As someone who usually writes songs using a piano, but trying to update knowledge with new technology, there is so much terminology which is a challenge to getting started. It is such a shift to understand composition in this mode. Hopefully i can cross that bridge with the Ableton Move and some annoying questions
I get what Ableton has in mind with this, but it looks like a fantastic four track live instrument and midi sequencer as well. Could be very very interesting as a Dawless/Live Set tool. I wonder how it handles standard midi in and out...
It is quite interesting, but at 450€ having only 4 tracks is a let-down IMO, also it could have some audio tracks for simple recording a vocal, an acoustic guitar or something like it. Personally, I would love to be able to record an electric guitar/bass on it. Bluetooth or SD cards could be useful too. I wonder if they plan to update it with more instruments and fx. It don't seems to share the upgradability/repairability they professed for Push 3?
@@milk_bath I don't want to put samples of a synth in a drum rack. Normally I want to use at least 8 synths for my projects with full control of said synths.
I have a Lunchkey 37, Launchpad Pro, when I look at those devices and the limitations they have for the price they cost compared to the ease of use of Ableton on a laptop it blows my mind that people want to spend time on those.
Looks intriguing but I already have a Push 3 and use Note when out and they integrate well enough. Not sure if bringing hardware to the Note workflow (and do it on an Ipad Mini) would work for me but I'll keep an eye on this if they add Push integration in some useful or fun way. Maybe by then it'll be down to $400...
Wow, it looks like an end-game device. Just add your favourite keyboard for the occasion (mini midi, 37 full keys or weighted), headphones and a drink.
I like it. The workflow seems much more up my alley. One of the things I really don't like about the Push3 is the menu heavy workflow, it just seems to kill all the momentum for me so I've been making sketches on my MC101 and the exporting it to Ableton later. The price is about the same as the MC101 but so far the workflow seems much nicer.
I wondered about the recent OP-1 Hype, now we know why. Ableton was PUSHing at the mountain, now they have well and truly MOVED it. The OP-1 landscape has suddenly SHIFTED.
It's coming down the road, these are all the things they are adding to Note/Move (guessing in order of release) This is from one of the Note OS Devs: Sequencing Notes Audio Tracks AUv3 Chord Tools More FX Time Signatures Slicing Separately we're tracking pain points: Sample Editing Bluetooth Audio Note Grid/Sequencing Sample Import Capture
Does this thing have the same real time stretch/ warp capabilities? If so I’d get it just to be a looper for my MPC that sucks at warping. That’s my only use for it well and as a unique midi keyboard for my MPC
Two important simple things for me missing on Move: Sidechain and note probability. Circuit Tracks has this and for me is very important, specially the note probability.
I’m afraid to say it’s yet another thing that people are gonna buy and don’t use after a week. It doesn’t seem to fill any particular gap in the market, at least not good enough to justify 449$
These are the best kind of videos to showcase new gear. Ableton really needs to stop with all the cinematic hipster fashion shoots and just get real people talking about the product.
I’d actually like this as a smaller desktop controller for Live. I don’t think you can run this mode over WI-FI though? Still, pretty useful over USB and cool for getting ideas going. Great presentation, cheers
As a circuit user, from what I can see, this looks like a significant upgrade to me, if it works like it promises. The circuit tracks is limited to 32 steps per clip and doesn't have looping controls like this. You're also forced to use two synth tracks and two sample tracks. It's also only $50 more than a Tracks. I think it's pretty compelling.
What's lite about it? This seems mostly more powerful than the circuit to me (circuit may have a little more synth engine customization going on, and has the midi out).
@@piquantement I'm joking a little. it looks actually pretty cool and I'm an avid circuit user and thought move could be a similar workflow but more versatile. I love the super fast workflow of the circuits but I never really loved the sound of the nova synth engine inside. I use them live and built my patches in the stupid editor. Having the ableton synths and maybe an ableton to move workflow would have been super interesting to me. unfortunately I'm afraid that the current Move specs won't do that for me. give me the same thing with ableton to move compatibility (of some limited form ofc) and deeper control over the synths on the unit itself and I'm interested! :)
Does the case have a hard, smooth plastic? Or that almost rubber-like finish that the Push 2 had which would show a million fingerprints and grease after using it?
you could have 3 drum racks, one for drums, one for basses, one for chords, each pad on the drum rack can be played chromatically so no limits there, and then still use the final track for anything you want, maybe a unique sample thats really modulated or something idk

4 x 16 with drum racks.
that outro was fire.
Can you build new tones from scratch using the built-in synthesizers, i.e. do sound design?
I really want to see the synthesis features as well.
AFAICT, sound design is limited - there are 8 macro controls that are automatically assigned, but the full synths’ parameters seem to be unavailable
No, there’s like 8 parameters they allow you to edit, but you can’t change, or even see like, what waveforms or how many oscillators or whatever, are being used.
4 tracks that can all be drum rack. 4 x 16 sequencers.
Education is fundamental.
@@milk_bath that wont give me 64 synths...
@@pcfirebeats Why do you need 64 synths? You know you can put samples of synths in a drum rack, yeah?
@@milk_bath I don't want to put samples of a synth in a drum rack.
Normally I want to use at least 8 synths for my projects with full control of said synths.
@@pcfirebeats Why do you need 64 synths?
The novation circuit on steroids, you were really good nick thanks
I don't get the tiny display. Would it hurt them to include a display showing all 8 knobs parameters? I hate this kinda stuff.
Added cost.
@@milk_bath Sure, i know. But were talking something like 20-30$ probably. OLEDs aren't expensive.
Something inside tells me that pairing Ableton Move with the Roland SH-4D would be a proper setup. No idea why...
I have a Lunchkey 37, Launchpad Pro, when I look at those devices and the limitations they have for the price they cost compared to the ease of use of Ableton on a laptop it blows my mind that people want to spend time on those.
. Definitely a good move to simplify the push. (KO2 was an influential device🤩)
Amazing and sonic state is the best!!! Glad I got my Ableton tattoo years ago
it's something beetween the Novation Circuit and the MC-101, it looks interesting
Wow, it looks like an end-game device.
Just add your favourite keyboard for the occasion (mini midi, 37 full keys or weighted), headphones and a drink.
This looks like a lot of fun!
No audio over Bluetooth? And is it possible to switch between controlling live without stopping the audio of the move so we can extend the 4 tracks?
audio over Bluetooth isn't really worth it. This isn't something most musical instruments do. The latency is horrendous.
@justingoers true but on the iPad/ios it is ok, if you'd want to pair both might have worked
Pretty sure it doesn’t have Bluetooth, only WiFi
I was being skeptical when I first saw it, but the workflow is genius. I may need to write to Santa :)
This looks great and is cheaper than I would have expected for the feature set.
My big question is can it chop samples with simpler in standalone and controller mode?!
not yet it seems like but they said they have a roadmap of updates commin!
Not having simpler and sampler from the start is wild to me
Same question here, and if it can how easy is it.
Why wouldn't they add sample chop, SSD card, and arrange. Could have been a MPC Live competitor.
It's coming down the road, these are all the things they are adding to Note/Move (guessing in order of release) This is from one of the Note OS Devs:
Sequencing Notes
Audio Tracks
AUv3
Chord Tools
More FX
Time Signatures
Slicing
Separately we're tracking pain points:
Sample Editing
Bluetooth Audio
Note Grid/Sequencing
Sample Import
Capture
Hello and velcome to Bad Gear!
Florian’s jams on this thing are going to be fire, though!
At first i thought it was too expensive but given that it is standalone i think it is ok. Just wish it had a bigger screen.
at least it has one, unlike the Circuits.
I’m afraid to say it’s yet another thing that people are gonna buy and don’t use after a week. It doesn’t seem to fill any particular gap in the market, at least not good enough to justify 449$
They added a lot of features from akai mpc, now I just hope akai will also soon add some features from ableton, it would be a great emulation :)
Features such as?
These are the best kind of videos to showcase new gear. Ableton really needs to stop with all the cinematic hipster fashion shoots and just get real people talking about the product.
@@justinsomuch6324 you realize this is Ableton you’re talking about…
But you only load up presets from lets say wavetable, you cant actually control the synth right?
That outro jam is nice.
I’d actually like this as a smaller desktop controller for Live. I don’t think you can run this mode over WI-FI though? Still, pretty useful over USB and cool for getting ideas going. Great presentation, cheers
Soooo they've 'invented' a novation circuit 9 years later! so edgy
I was hoping for a push standalone with more horsepower, but oh well
As a circuit user, from what I can see, this looks like a significant upgrade to me, if it works like it promises.
The circuit tracks is limited to 32 steps per clip and doesn't have looping controls like this. You're also forced to use two synth tracks and two sample tracks.
It's also only $50 more than a Tracks. I think it's pretty compelling.
Can we get some cv and gate out?
Will they do also the medieval version?
So it’s kind of like a novation circuit lite but more expensive? :D
@@fabiantombers4966 and it has a screen
Great tool to separate beat ideation/ creation from producing. so important!
Finally something to go toe to toe with MC-101. Wait, can you sound design on it? Also can you have different sounds per clip on the same track?
you could have 3 drum racks, one for drums, one for basses, one for chords, each pad on the drum rack can be played chromatically so no limits there, and then still use the final track for anything you want, maybe a unique sample thats really modulated or something idk
Has anyone seen if there are any probability or chance functions? I couldn’t find anything about it in the TH-cam videos or the user manual.
not yet, hopefully a future update
@@Maurizio_909 highly doubt it. It’s designed to be simple and then you take the sketch into Live or Push for these features
with link does that mean i can link to dj software and plug into a mixer and use in a dj set?
Can you save your tracks directly on this unit ?
looks awesome
Looks great!
A damn clever interface I would say. This is minimalism done right! Really like the form factor. Internal mic and poly aftertouch are just fantastic! (Edit: just heard about the price, damn yes!)
Buying this because of this video.
