My car has trouble turning over sometimes. But if i give it a little gas it starts up. Sometimes it revs itself up to 3k rpm. I checked my fuel pump relay and was thinking it could be a MAF sensor. Wondering what your opinion is, hoping i dont have to replace the fuel pump.
Hello, if you are mechnnically inclined, check the full preassure to the rail first , if low to no pressure the issue lies outside of the engine such as pump or filter. Please consider subscribing to my TH-cam Channel for free if you haven't already to show your support.
My boy, you have a carbureted engine system, of course its gonna take time to prime the engine. And when it revs itself up to 3k rpm, that means it’s idling and trying to warm itself up, so let it warm up.
It should , but remember BMW maf sensors are very sensitive, I would rather you plug in a scan tool than do this as BMWs are very touchy . I own an E60 and a small unplug like that can make the car feel different. Please consider subscribing to my TH-cam Channel for free if you haven't already

@jamshaid20091 It could be MAF but modern ECUs have a way of limiting the RPM to prevent damage , so the issue could be bigger or minor. This is crazy and untrue. Fords stay cranked. If you think it's a bad mass air flow sensor aka maf map mass. Or whatever you wanna call it, just remove the old one and put on a new one. Remove battery terminals for 5 to 10 mins so it will reset. Then put cables back on and crank it up and let it idle for about 10 mins. On other videos it says do this. @jorgealvarez1690 That is a good question, it is most likely electrical component that is bad, but yes best to try to clean it. I have a specific video for that. Would you like the link ?
I don’t think this is done correctly. It’s not unplugging it from the connector. It’s unplugging it from the air intake pipe with the connector still plugged into the sensor. If the engine stalls the sensor is working cos it is detecting no air flow. What you are doing is you disconnect it from the power and feedback to the ecu, how could the sensor possibly work? Duh.
What I am trying to do is to establish if the MAF was working to start off with. If you unplug it then you can check if the engine stops, if it does then the sensor was having communication and normal resistance to start off with. It isn't a solution, it is a basic test for those who don't have a scan tool. I know the MAP can play a part in the result
I would say best to start off with checking ignition coils , injectors and Plugs if you are getting it at that speed. Get it scanned if you get P0301 to P030* based on Cylinders then it's Plugs, coils or injectors . Please Subscribe to my TH-cam Channel for free if you haven't already.

Hey, thank you for the video, I have done that but my engine was still running ? So definitely it means I need to change that
You are most welcome, I would say to just use it as a guide first . What model and year of vehicle? Next step would be to get the car scanned . Autoparts stores do this for a small cost . See what codes get returned . You also need to see the symptoms and if you have check engine on .
@@DocMackGarage its E250 ( 2012) there isn’t any code on dashboard, but seems like the car is on limp mode..
@jamshaid20091 It could be MAF but modern ECUs have a way of limiting the RPM to prevent damage , so the issue could be bigger or minor.
