    This song is criminally underrated

    This song always gives me chills. What a wondrous time to be alive and yet know there is a storm brewing for the future.

    "I am altered now for good" hits different when you know what it did to Peranza and Alter-Peranza.

      Eliezer did not actually ask me before attributing my work to his medianworld. I am unhappy that he did that and I wish he had not. I do not like planecrash, I especially do not like the peranza plotline, and I would really prefer not to get this kind of comment.

      I know how to get in touch with Eliezer and can ask him to remove the link and reference to your work from his story, if you like.

      @@CronoDAS From a fan of this video (though not its creator, now), who only discovered the video due to planecrash, and who would like future readers to share that experience, I ask that you don't allow your respect for the preferences of this video's creator to supercede your respect for the preferences of those who might only discover the video through planecrash.
      TL;DR: If you do get in touch with Eliezer, please don't ONLY mention the video creator's preferences. Because his fans have preferences too. That preference, in the case of this fan: don't remove the link.

      I too discovered both this video and Vienna Teng as a whole through planecrash. While the story is very much an acquired taste and full of issues both structural and content wise, it's ultimately just another fanfic on the vast internet. I don't think there's any reader who sees an actual misatribution in the main character's claim that an unnamed artist from a fictional alternate Earth made this song or this video.
      Personally all of it in combination touched me a lot, during a time of mental health issues. I'd be poorer if I had never discovered this. The idea of denying my experience to others over a matter of creative disagreement makes me sad. Especially when all the clicks and views still end up here (as opposed to say the official Vienna Teng channel).

    Came here from Project Lawful. It was my first time ever hearing this song. I love that it extols the achievements we've made since the Industrial Revolution, rather than demonizing them; while still pointing out that it all comes with a price. And it doesn't portray Nature as wrathful or vengeful, but as a loving caretaker doing its best to provide for us - but it can't keep up and we need to slow down.

      Nature is not your friend nor is it a livening caretaker. Only someone in the modern world would think such insanity.

    No idea what Project Lawful is, I'm just here to comment on the song.
    I'm surprised everyone connects it to humans. You're probably right to do so, but I interpreted the role of the mystical entities as spirits. Made the whole thing a lot more intriguing.
    "Delve ever deeper in my alchemic arts
    Crack the cyphers to free up your mind"
    "In the bed that we've made
    may every nail be shown"
    Essentially just telling humanity to allow for negative experiences to be a part of the journey, instead of damning every moment that they're not perfect as waste.
    Letting go of desires, focusing on the moment, and treating **both** the search for enlightenment, and the temptations that detract from it as the same meaningless dribble - only working for one's body's true needs, and spending most other effort on creativity, kindness, and appreciation. (Which would then not have to entail abandoning industrialisation at all - just not enslaving yourself for it, and helping others free themselves from the treadmill, too.)

    God I love capitalism

    • @laurenpinschannels
      @laurenpinschannels ปีที่แล้ว

      this ain't capitalism's output - this is the result of markets. capitalism is the leech of security contracts allowing no-contribution traders to suck away the benefits and redirect the logistics' output to just themselves. we'd have this under a more open trade system too, one that also protects the workers bringing us these wonders; if the customer and worker were properly connected, without the intervention by the workers' organizations' owners, the customers and workers could be in much tighter discussion about what to ship where.

    • @laurenpinschannels
      @laurenpinschannels ปีที่แล้ว

      the bettors who can find the mistakes others made and exploit them, to suck any positive externality away - that's what the left named capitalism originally. the malicious traders tried to rename "markets" to "capitalism" to hide behind the benefits of markets. that's not what the left was ever mad at. it's the owners who suck away the gains from trade that us lefties are mad at.

  • @elliewuzzup7689
    @elliewuzzup7689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Wow! Really amazing interpretation! I do feel that at the end of the song she experiences disillussion though, in the face of commercialism and how damaging it has been to the Earth. Like, there is a need to return to a simpler way of life and "shield my eyes no more" refers to a longing to see the wholeness of earth and agriculture not just the endless aisles of commercial goods stacked perfectly in the grocery store. Rather than glorifying globalization and industrialization it feels like a cry for help and the gentle man's voice I always imagine as the climate itself asking to be heard.

    • @williamkurtz8703
      @williamkurtz8703 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I see no need to return to a simpler anything. There is no way to do that without subsistence agriculture; we need essentially the entire modern system to produce and distribute the resources to robustly support ourselves; if you want to drastically reduce the population and become vulnerable to famine again, well, you do that without me, please.

      If you don't want your daydreams criticized, read no further. As a daydreamer myself, other interpretations often disenchant me with the song altogether, and I don't want to ruin this one for you

    • @Trepur349

      She extols the benefits of capitalism, globalization, technology and progress but she now realizes they came at a cost (mainly the environment). She wants to know more about the costs but she still values the benefits and think it was worth it:
      "The Price that we pay, time that you made it known
      I want to be your bride in full, shield my eyes no more
      I am altered now for good, shield these eyes no more"
