      DevinDTV when you factor in transportation costs (which that analysis surprisingly leaves out), it most certainly is. I wasn’t even factoring the cost of the location. Seems a strange to include the entire cost of the location, when most music videos that film on the interstate highway don’t include the entire cost of producing that infrastructure in their budget. The average space shuttle launch is 450million.

    Ever since I first watched it, I've always thought that this was the greatest TH-cam video ever made. I'm not saying that in a hyperbolic way, I honestly think that it's the best video ever made. It has, by nature of its location, a transcendence few TH-cam videos have or can really hope to have, and it makes perfect use of that. It elevates a song already generally well-known and beloved to a huge amount of people, to what feels, given the topic of the song, like what will be its ultimate state, at least for the foreseeable future. It is essentially the actualization of Space Oddity, or at least the closest we'll probably get for some time.

      In an interview, this is what Chris had to say about Bowie:
      "Bowie described my song as the most poignant version of the song ever done, which just floored me.
      I think, for him, he knew he was ill - it was getting to the end of his life. He wrote that song at the beginning, when he was still 19 or 20, before we had even walked on the moon. He had always fantasied about flying in space - Starman, and Mars, and all that other stuff, and I think for him it was just like a gift, to have that song updated with the lyrics, performed actually in space, just a couple of years before he was taken.
      To me that might be the best part: that he got delight out of my particular version of the song."

      @ArnoldSig 7 ปีที่แล้ว +166

      Robert Weidner Well as fun as it is to think it like that, that's pretty far from the truth. The ISS wasn't built for this video so this was most likely veeery cheap to make (just one performer and self edited). The same thing if Nicki Minaj shooted a music video in a city you don't add the buildings in the background to the cost of making the music video...

    • @Voodoomancer
      @Voodoomancer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +244

      I'm pretty sure the ISS would count as "on location," not a set. Still, if you only count the cost of launching the weight of a guitar, a camera, a laptop for editing, and Chris Hadfield, into space it's probably the most expensive amateur-made music video ever.
