What a huge compliment as that is my goal! It has always bugged me how convoluted this stuff seems to be based on what is out there. So glad I can help!

Best thumping tutorial I've seen. Thank you so much. If you don't also play some violin, you might enjoy giving it a try...you'll grasp the mechanics quicker than anyone because of your insights into how the body helps to make your sound. Thanks again brother -
Thanks! Glad it was useful for you. I would love to try violin if I got my hands on one. It definitely helps to have a general understanding of the mechanics for learning stuff when picking up similar hobbies. All the best
Unfortunately, there really isn't much at all out there. That's why I'm making all of this stuff! A lot of my videos have free pdf's you are welcome to download to start working on some things. :) And thanks for the sub!
I would like to ask a few more questions :) 1. What about string action? I would think, a lower action would be better? 2. What kind of string gauge are you using? The Abasi guitars seem to have relatively thin strings with its 9.5 - 74 string gauge. My 8String has a 28" Scale lentgh for the lowest string, and a string gauge of 0.80, and it still seems wobbly.
@@PhilHarmonic87 I always try to have my action as low as I can for ease of playing, but making sure there is no buzzing introduced by it. Also has to do with neck curve. And you're right about the string gauge, that's what I continue to use. I would just say use whatever gauge you like and find how hard you have to hit it so it slaps and responds in a lively way without sounding too harsh and noisy.
Thank you very much for this tutorial! You mentioned that Tosin most of the time uses the Coil Sound in Bridge Position, so this would be according to Fishmans Wiring digram for Abasi Pickups, Bridge and Neck Inner Coils. I'm planing to change the Pickups in one of my guitars to the Tosin Abasi Pickups from Fishman, but I only have a 3-way-switch (all of the Abasi Guitars with two Humbuckers come with a 5-way-switch, if I'm correct). Wiring the Abasi Pickups with a 3 way switch, there would also be an option in single coil mode (middle position in voice 3), where Bridge and Neck Inner Coils would be used - that should basicly produce the same sound, no matter if 5 way switch or 3 way switch, right?
@@PhilHarmonic87 you're welcome for the tutorial! I will be honest though about your technical question, I have very little experience with pickup wiring/instillation. You're correct in that the Abasi models have a 5-way switch but I wouldn't know any details about wiring for a three-way. Best talk to an experienced tech if you can. Good luck!
By far the hardest thing so far is getting calluses built on my thumb, already like 30 mins and its forming a bubble this shi hurts but ik itll be worth it so im not giving up
I'm new to the 8 string party as well. If you want cleans, check into Rob Scallon's signature C-8 by Schecter. That guitar is what really got me interested in getting an 8 string to begin with. I've seen them used for around $1200. I almost got one, but went with their MS SLS Evil Twin, which is a more "metal" C-8 version. While the strike hits the string differently, I can definitely see how the wrist motion and finger plucks would translate over and make learning this technique easier. A good advantage to have!
@@arunkarthikma3121 awesome! Keep up the good practice work. And absolutely it is a bass technique. That may be one thing I forgot to mention in the video but some other TH-camrs lay out the origin of the technique.
I wouldn't say it's impossible if you absolutely need to do some muting and there is no other way, but for me it's not worth the effort and pain in the wrist. I also don't see really anyone else doing it. If you need to do some muting, I recommend checking out muting techniques of bass players that have been tried and tested for decades where you use your left hand fingers to lightly touch the strings right next to the fretted note. Hope that helps!

I guess that really depends on your price point. There are very few 8-strings under $1000 (cad) from what I can tell. What price are you looking for?
