I feel like the real key to a quality lazy day is making acknowledged choices instead of moving from one thing to another mindlessly. When you do things mindlessly you feel you’ve wasted the day: “Ugh, I was so lazy today!” But of you take a moment and ask yourself what you want to do next, then decide, by the end of the day you can feel really recharged from a lazy day. 🎉

Evening showers/baths are so you get to wash off any dirt and grime from the day away before you get into bed, and relax in hot water. And it saves time in the morning! :D

i usually can't sleep properly if i don't have a pre-bed shower! nothing like clean skin on clean sheets mmm. i also can't get warm enough in the bed, like i need to be preheated in the shower 😅

Fun fact for other sweaty people: antiperspirant works best if applied at night because that’s when sweat glands are least active! The product has more time to get in and do what it’s meant to do instead of being sweat out immediately which can happen in the morning :~)

“I don’t understand evening shower people” Me about to go for a shower after watching this… I’m so knackered after work and I have no energy left to cook/eat/do anything. A shower around 5-6pm can help give me that little bit of extra energy I need to get through the evening and actually eat properly

I don't "Get" showering in the morning. At the end of the day, a shower is relaxing; you're washing the day of, coming out with fresh, clean skin and hair, which makes even a bad day instantly better. You go to bed clean, which is one of the biggest things for me. Going to bed after a full day without showering makes me just think of lying in my own grime, and that makes it difficult to get to sleep.

I don't "get" people who shower before going out-- where they will literally get dirty-- and then do not shower when they get home and just... luxuriate in the dirt and grime and pollution in their own house. I know this is stereotypical East Asian of me, but that is disgusting behavior lol

@@AllTheArtsy disgusting is pretty rough to me. There are obvious pros and cons to both sides and no one is disgusting for preferring or needing one over the other. I need to do both (personally) unless I'm too unwell for the luxury.

I do not have a "self-care day," instead I have worked to have a self-care life. I have built my life up to the point where I work when I want, the hours I want, with people I like. In a walkable city that I love being in, with infrastructure, culture and nature. It's not luxurious in a materialistic sense, but it is rich in everything that matters. I wish the same for you all.

I like that you talked about different kinds of self care. I find as a disabled mum I have to balance it between things I want to do and things that are actually good for me. Because like lying in bed all day might be what I want to do, but it makes my mental and physical health rubbish and I get more pain in the long run. Whereas if I balance in a bit of exercise and healthy eating then I feel so much better (which is really annoying obviously lol)

When my baby was a lot younger I always made time to wash my hair every day. I didn't always have time to dry it or style it or have it cut regularly but having clean hair was the one thing I could do to make myself feel better about myself.

  • @leggyegg2890

So interesting seeing what other ppl do to unwind/relax/do self care! I defs think baking is a great self care activity ☺️
I’m neurodivergent + disabled so my dishes are literally never all done - but weirdly, if I’m having a bad day it helps to wash a few dishes, slowly and lazily with a fav tv show on in the background. Doesn’t matter if it takes me an hour to wash 3 cups, it feels like a huge win!!
It feels like self care in those times because it’s a reminder I deserve clean dishes and a decent living space. It’s something I don’t necessarily want to do or enjoy doing, but I do it in a way that I can manage as an act of self love.
That was a tangent but yeah like I said, fascinating how individual and personal stuff like that is!

Yes! I have severe fatigue unless I manage my sensory input (I'm autistic), so most days have to be restful! The worst thing is when I'm too tired to focus and I end up stressed and depressed.... But the best is when I see my OT (via zoom), have enough energy to work on an art project, eat leftovers for dinner with my friend, and go for an evening walk. That's a perfect day at home!

I sleep until I wake up by self (granted it's 8 at the absolute latest XD), make a cup of tea, feed the cat and then I do as little physical acitivity as possible. I can watch something but I will keep still. I then wait until I am bursting to do something and I allow myself to do what that is. No matter if it's going out getting a pastry or doing a craft or even cleaning - what it is doesn't' matter. The important part is that it is what I feel like doing. If I end up doing nothing all day, that is what was needed. No guilt or shame,

I tried to think of what my ultimate self care day would look like, and it's so hard to decide. I've got a two year old, and I'm 40 weeks pregnant, so my brain is just thinking about all that (I do have a very very good partner, but we've both let self care slide recently).
It doesn't help that I live in a place where we've had snow for the past two weeks, so we've been snowed it at home for most days and I desperately miss the sun.
I think my ideal self care day would start with a take-out breakfast and some thrifting. Then, time out in nature taking photos - not happening in the winter, but my dream day would be in spring or summer.
After that, spending time in the garden, or reading a book. Maybe watching some uninterrupted shows on Netflix. Eating whatever I wanted for lunch and supper without having to share. Ending the day with a nice bath.
Or - having a full day to just work on whatever diy or sewing project I have on the go. That would be great too

I have 4 girls now so have so little time for a lazy day. I totally empathise with the having to watch series in 10 minute bursts - I pop something on and just watch what I can in the small snippets of time I might find. I try and get a bath once a week just so I can lock myself away in the quiet and watch something in the bath but I have to hope the baby doesn't wake up when I do. Reading is one of my favourite things but I cannot stay awake to read a book at the moment- the sleep deprivation is real.

  • @StrongImaginationA

To me there's still a difference between a rest day and a lazy day. It might be because I'm also chronically ill, but the difference to me is that a lazy day is a choice, a rest day is not. So on a lazy day I might still go out for a walk and do some things around the house, but not with a sense of urgency. A rest day is when I don't do that.

The best advice I was given when I was a very tired new mum was, when the baby sleeps, you sleep. I was able to carry that on when I went back to full time work when the baby was 16 weeks old by going to bed when I put the baby down. Sleep matters more than dusting.

It cleans all of the germs I bring home from working with kids before I relax with my family. C. The hot shower helps me decompress from the day and relax as I transition to evening times.

Evening showers are the best. Just wash down the entire day down the drain and blow dry out the day 😌 (can't go to bed with wet hair). Moisturize your body, get on your clean jammies, cuddle up with tea, a blanket, and some chill night time music with the lights low. Ahhhhhhh.

Showering in the evening can help if you have allergies (not bring allergens to bed), want to raise your body temperature a bit so the cooling off process makes you sleepy, or just find running shower water soothing. If I had the day to myself, I'd rest mind and body in bed a lot with ice packs, and take little excursions to the couch, desk, or kitchen to journal, read, do something artsy, or listen to comforting videos. I'd want to reheat leftovers or order delivery.

So interesting this concept of 'laziness' or a 'lazy day' and how our society truly is driven by this notion that anything other than chaos and maxed out 'productivity' in service of others is somehow immoral or a sign of weakness/weak character. I also cringe thinking about how people dealing with depression, chronic illness, etc. could easily be labeled as lazy for doing things like spending the day in comfort clothes and not cooking bc it helps them save their energy, when there is nothing lazy at all about taking care of yourself and doing what you need to do for your body/mind/spirit to recover. ❤️

    • @andielove
      @andielove ปีที่แล้ว +2

I also think it's so awful how many moms I see online or even supposed 'resource' accounts geared towards moms label something as simple as taking a shower as some really special form of self care when it's really just a basic hygiene need! It doesn't say anything good about our world that moms taking a shower or being able to have time for themselves is considered a novelty luxury. All moms/parents deserve more than just being able to get their basic needs met.

I know this was more than likely part of the brand deal situation so this is more at Lush than Hannah and they probably won't see it, but I've been starting to see QR codes online recently and I genuinely do not understand. The entire point of QR codes is for a phone to scan something physical to go to a virtual thing. If you're already virtual, that's literally what links are for. If a QR code is a virtual graphic you need an entire second device with a camera that can scan QR codes. Vs a link is infinitely easier. Yes I may be watching this on my computer with a smartphone next to me, but that's probably not the case for most people, and even if it was, what kind of scenario makes it easier to open a second device's camera, scan it, and get the site open on the device you might not even be using in that moment? Like even if i wanted to continue watching youtube while looking at the link I'd just open a new tab lol. It just doesn't make any sense and kinda makes it look like whoever created it (in this case someone at Lush I would assume) doesn't get how technology works.
...Sorry that turned into a weird rant, this is just not the first time I've seen an online QR code in the past few weeks and I'm very confused

Also a shower where you are trying to make sure the baby doesn't escape, or taking your baby for a walk isn't really a self care day. That's still caring for a baby.

I think that "lazy" just gets thrown around a lot, including times when people do just mean taking some necessary rest, and I don't think that's a correct use of the word. Let's get rid of that use of the word. To me, "lazy" should only be used for when we means someone is perfectly able to do something, probably something they're responsible for, but they just can't be bothered. No particular reason. They're not tired or busy or whatever. They just are shirking their responsibilities. And honestly, I don't encounter that real kind of lazy very often.

So funny. I think the exact same thing about morning shower persons...what is that?why would you take a shower in the mornings? Haha so funny how different people are...but its ok as long as we even take showers ;)

"I do not understand evening shower people"
I do not understand MORNING shower people!! In my country it would be really weird to shower in the morning becuase you want to be clean right before you get into bed!! If you shower in the morning, you just get oily, sweaty, dusty, dirty and then you get into BED with that??? EW! But also, I live in a country with pretty bad housing, so having a shower allows you to get to a good temperature to go to sleep. If it's 30 degrees at night, taking a cool shower before you get into bed is very soothing, if it's 6 degrees at night, you want a really hot shower so you can be nice and warm before you sleep.
Or at least, that's how my reasoning is!!

The struggle is SO REAL Hannah, single girls or ladies without kids have no idea of the simple luxuries they have that I’m missing😅 like combing my hair in peace, 💩 in peace, reading a chapter of a damn book, randomly going to the grocery by myself, going anywhere or doing anything in a matter of minutes… a winter trip with kids, wether car rides, walks around the block etc. take an whole half hour routine to prep for-for what 5 mins outside or 20 mins down the road🤣that or u can just sit at home and rot🤣🤣🤣not really but SAHM have a lot of mental strength that ppl don’t even know about😅☮️

Trust me, some of us know and for me it is at least part of the reason I choose to be child free, but also why I always offer to babysit for my friends that do have kids.

We do have an idea of what's missing - and for some of us what's missing is a child. Living through quiet, lazy days is yet another reminder that I long to be busy and looking after a mini human. Hats off to you as I know it's not easy at all, but please remember this when posting somewhere where those going through sub/infertility can read it!

I'm an evening shower person because I don't want to get into my nice bed with all the dirt and sweat of the day on me! I like a morning shower too but given the choice I'm an evening bath/showerer all the way :D I love the idea of having children but as a childless person most of my weekends look like this already and I don't know if I'm ready to sacrifice that yet!
