      how was the tournament?

  • @Mikkarus

    I trained float serve myself - and exactly with the same targets: elbow is high and behind the head before serve, short and stiff contact with a ball, trajectory low above the net, targeting far line. And from 0 level (I had some weak unstable and unpredictable overhead serve before) I really came to a serious mid-level players serve in 2 months. Now I can precisely place a ball between players near the line - very effective. Or stronger float serve to a corner - diagonal or along side line. After all I started to learn shortened serve. And it all works just amazing together - with a lot of aces even against players of higher levels (sort of few years of intense experience in beach volley).
    Actually my strong serve is now a game changer and all the efforts return huge value. You just need to spend 20 dedicated hours on it, most of them even without court and net - focusing on strike, hand contact, no ball rotation. Say, against wall with marked net height and measured distance for it. Then if you're stable with it - it's very easy to adopt on court. I'm playing beach volley for 3 months and my serve is just killing against people with less then 3-years of solid experience.

    Im here to learn so I can teach my 12 year old daughter how to serve volleyball for middle school. This is the best video on serving I have seen by far. Thank you so much for the great content. She wants to make the varsity team and I think she will be moved up if she can improve her serving to become more consistent. Thanks again.

    When I float serve I'm always aiming for the top tape. It's a lot easier than visualizing the antenna (or the 3-foot box in this video) and trying to serve between the top of that and the net.

    • @betteratbeachvolleyball
      @betteratbeachvolleyball  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That can help but might be a little risky. Aiming for the tape means hitting 50% of your serves into the net.

    I’ve watched so many videos on overhand serving and this one is the one that actually helped so much, it made me realize the tighter and stronger my pullback for my serve was and the tighter and stronger i flexed my hand open the stronger my serve was 💪💪

    I’ve only played beach volleyball (and volleyball) for a bit, but it’s amazing how effective placed, short float serves work against other teams. Not sure how well it works against more experienced players, but I love using the short serves and occasionally mixing more powerful ones into the mix (like the concept you mentioned). Awesome vid, thanks for the tips!

    • @betteratbeachvolleyball
      @betteratbeachvolleyball  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, you have to use your hands in wrists to control the ball in much more strenuous ways than you use your hands and wrists in regular life, so it makes sense that they would be sore!

    This is very interesting! Thank you very much for all your videos and explanations which are always very clear and easy to understand. I was wandering about power serve vs float serve. I'm an ex indoor player and when I want to power serve I do the complete opposite of what you describe here and was wandering if that is a mistake I've been doing : I serve from 2-3 meters behind the line with full downward spin and "cupped" hand... I must say that it often woks pretty well (especially if I regularly switch with float serve), but not sure if I should anyway try to change it and simply to get a more powerful float serve.

    Thank you for the video. I had a biceps inflammation and have tried different float serving techniques such as the one presented in this video. However, float serving and the "stopping" often causes me shoulder pain. Any hints on how to properly execute float serves without stressing the shoulder to much?

      I’m not saying this to be funny but if you are having pain from stopping your arm, your focus should be on strengthening your shoulder not finding a technique that doesn’t hurt as much.

      Yup! seconding what Brandon said. But I'll just point you in the exact direction.
      When you join our program, you'll go straight into the 60 day vertical program because it provides A LOT of shoulder work. The shoulder work in the first 3 weeks is where you want to focus for a while. Don't even push through the upper body strength parts. JUST DO THE SHOULDER WORKOUTS with very light weight.. Come to the meeting and make sure we do a little assessment so we can set you on the right track.

      I like that tip! but I always imagine bear paws with the finger tips curled... I hope people don't try to do that for serves. hehe

    Kevin needs to work on drawing arms back, he appears to be a bit of a shot pusher.

    I feel like he could have more wind up for more Power

      possibly! good coaches can't pile on too many keys in one practice though! and if we're talking float serves. wind ups shouldn't be huge
