I think it was Brandon's description of the shoulders curving over an imagined PVC pipe and the abs doing a crunch position. Thanks for the clear instructions.
A mechanical queue that may help passers keep their back/shoulders rounded is tucking their chin to their chest as they track the ball to their platform, and then exaggerate/hold the chin tuck for a split second after contact.

That was actually a slip of the tongue/edit mistake and an oversimplification. Stick with starting by facing where the ball is coming from and always try to have the "tilt" of your shoulders slightly towards the net to make sure the ball goes forward. Sorry for the confusion.
My coach always told me "Try to look at your shoulder while extending your arms straight." There's only one way to do it - round the back. I struggle with that form all of the time, and I can tell when I'm tired and not doing it correctly.
@@betteratbeachvolleyball The first thing that happens when I'm tired is *bent elbows* ... ugh. After a couple of shanks I have to dig deep and focus on really pushing those arms down, out, and together -- shoulders at my ears and square to the net and elbow eyes looking toward my target. Rounding your back helps you keep your shoulders and platform FORWARD - many amateurs or people who haven't received coaching tend to pass with their back very straight up which leads to your platform being parallel to the ground (which causes your pass to be off the net) or even leads to your weight falling backwards which pulls the pass even farther off the net.

How to pass float serves?
What is the purpose of rounding the back?
Why is it necessary?
Rounding your back helps you keep your shoulders and platform FORWARD - many amateurs or people who haven't received coaching tend to pass with their back very straight up which leads to your platform being parallel to the ground (which causes your pass to be off the net) or even leads to your weight falling backwards which pulls the pass even farther off the net.
