Mr. French, thank you for taking the time to visit all the towns in NC. I've watched most of your videos and thoroughly enjoyed them. I've noticed in the comments that some people say "well you should've done this or that" but I notice that aren't doing any videos so again thank you for sharing yours. I completely agree with you about how most towns have moved out and included all the franchise type places. It makes me sad that virtually every town now looks like every other town. Like you I miss the days when there were more "one of" type stores to visit and enjoy. Lead on my friend, lead on. Your cousin in eastern NC, Mike
I grew up in on the outskirts of Coats on 27. Went to the old school in my elementary years and still remember when that heating and air place was the train depot.
Creative critters owned by Ann Jones was a ceramic shop, lots of crafts and art done in there, my aunt Inez Poole worked in the beauty shop in down town main street. I grew up there,
I saw my first Star Wars toys back sometime in the 80's in the white buildings at the beginning of the video. Everyone from Coats will remember that the Mexican restaurant used to be Doyle Barbour's store. So many memories of this town.
Hey Mr French. I’m just seeing this now. It would be good to know some folks before you come to town. Those old buildings are all owned by one elderly gentleman who doesn’t develop them and won’t sell.
It's a shame you completely missed a huge part of history regarding this wonderful small town. Alton Stewart was the first licensed aviator in NC and his gravesite is on the opposite side of 27 where you were. He was from Coats and his pilots license was signed by Orville Wright engraved on his headstone.
You never disappoint us.....thanks.

Library used to be in an older building up the block from that intersection you're at
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the buildings. It’s always good to hear from people who grew up in a town

That’s a shame. It’s a beautiful town center. Albermarle, NC had a similar problem with a lot of their rundown buildings
Yea. Your video is good and I appreciate it. The older fellow is a retired doctor who owns the crematorium. We all wish the situation was different.
Born and raised!
My grandpa was first president of chamber, and built the community center there you weren’t far from. Love my small town roots of Coats!
@@RaleighLivingwithStephen looks like an awesome place to grow up. Thanks for sharing.
Me too!
