It's in the name. Street Fighter should make you feel like you're in the streets. Street fighting is an illegal sport, and the only people doing it within the world of Street Fighter are hermits, hoodlums, weirdos, fanatics, rogue paramilitary soldiers, and elites operating in the shadows. They're either people who don't fit in with society or people who twist society to their own ends. 3rd Strike is amazing because it understands that core concept and nails it aesthetically while also delivering on complex and interesting gameplay.
Yes! Aside from the excellent and deep gameplay, and amazing technical achievement from an artistic point of view, this game had a truly cohesive and believable aesthetic that genuinely felt "in place" and right. I think Max says that here, even. It just feels _right._
The hip-hop element....THANK YOU FOR SPEAKING ON THAT MAX. This game absolutely nails it. No other fighting game does it like this does. Capcom's finest Era. 👌

To fight Q - Can't lose any rounds Q should appear after you finish Stage 7. - Not continue. You're not supposed to lose rounds - Get a grade D or better grade on every stage. - Get 2 or more "Special Points." You get these from getting better grades each match. - Get more than 5 Super Art Finishes. If you change the maximum rounds in a match, this condition's formula is basically: [Number of Max Rounds in Each Match + 2 Super Art Finishes = Condition Met] For example, if you set the matches to end after one round, you would need to use 3 Super Art Finishes throughout the game.
The simplest solutions are often the strongest. I still don't understand why the 3S universal parry mechanic did not become a SF staple in SF4 and SF5 (in which only a few characters can parry). It literally elaborated on defense mechanics in the simplest way possible. Hold back to turtle, or tap forward at the right time to create your own opening. It's such a simple and genius way to allow game knowledge to level the playing field at high levels of play no matter what tier your character may be.
Same reason as why focus and v shift won’t return in later installments. Parrying gives 3rd strike a uniqueness exclusive that game. I think it’s great what they did in five by giving it to only ryu or how tekken 7 and smash gave the shotos focus. Street fighter innovates and the mechanic they implement should service the game
Capcom may not be keen on bringing back parrying because it negates certain character arechetypes entirely. The fireball zoner is one of the greatest legacies of Street Fighter and it really can't exist in the same space as a Third Strike parry. Maybe they could bring back parrying in Street Fighter by nerfing it closer to CvS2. However, would a nerfed parry be giving people what they want or just setting them up for dissappointment? Maybe it could work. I think it would be cool if Capcom revisited a universal parry for Street Fighter 6 but changed it up a little so its more balanced. Keep in mind, parrying is so strong in Third Strike that it forces the players to strategize around it. A somewhat abusable tactic in Third Strike is to tap parry and immediately return to block in order to option select a footsies interaction. Parrying doesn't neccesarily even the playing field on the tierlist either. Top/high tiers are generally better at playing around parry than mid/low/bottom tiers.

I decided to give fighting games and actual honest try when GGST came out, and since then I've been catching up on all the classics and one of the things that impressed me when I saw 3rd Strike was how well it aged visually. The animations are crisp, the character design are great, the screen isn't cluttered. Obviously I can't speak to the mechanics of it, but it looks amazing.
First time I saw third strike I was in disbelief. Very unique SF Characters I have never seen before with cool move sets I fell for it immediately and begged my mom for quarters.
I've said this before - but I came from that 90's arcade time and TOTALLY missed this game until early last year. I instantly fell in love! If I had to play 1 fighting game for the rest of my life, this would definitely be it.
Max is right here. 2:00-3:00 hip hop is difficult to translate because people dont and still dont understand what this means, especially for fighting games. For example, some of MK 11 tried to do this and even similar things have been in GBFVS.

Definitely one of the best street fighter games and it has a amazing soundtrack that i always include in my playlist for when i just feel like drawing for a couple of hours.
I have good memories with this game. Every morning before school, my mom would take me to get a donut, and the arcade machine for the game was there. I’ve seen so many people play it and I remember fondly just seeing all the characters. The style, presentation, the cool super moves are stuff that stuck with me.
The art, graphics and animation in this title are, and will always be absolutely timeless! 2D Capcom games in general will always hold a special place in my personal videogame history. Works of art!
The esthetics and music work so well together, even the roster fits so well together, even when you have necro, gill and twelve, it all still fits as a group and vibe and tone. I love that a lot of the stages are characters just fighting in the neighborhood and it all has that street vibe.
@@arcadejunki9313 you are right a lot of them are iconic like Dudley, Elena, Urien, twins, ibuki most of the new characters are great. I just wanted a bigger roster size.
I was a freshman in college when this game came out. It took over our student rec room by storm (right next to the Gaunlet Legends machine). Still, to this day, the closest to perfection any fighting game has come.
I recently got to play 3rd strike for the first time. Me being new to the game played my first arcade ladder on the easiest difficulty. When I went up against Sean he spent the whole fight spamming the move where he goes "tornaa". So going through the whole fight hearing "tornaa tornaa tornaa tornaa tornaa" was pretty frustrating.
I remember playing this in my buddys basement on his dreamcast for hours on end, this game and CvS2 were games we spent nights on trying to polish combos and learn new ways to get past eachothers defenses.

My number 1 arcade go to, back in the day. The days when you got rep for being dominant, and when you put those quarters down, the other players got scared. Fun times😊
oh man....family fun was the best. I remember cruising up there from SD on Friday nights. Miss those days and miss those big chunky 3rd strike machines!
I miss playing at family fun, SHGL, and arcade infinity so much!! Those were some of my most fun gaming memories! So many good players of every genre; fighting, music, racing etc!
Where I'm from, at the time, Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag took all the fame at our local arcade, and nobody cared much for 3rd Strike, if only to pass the time while waiting for their turn on the Tekken queue. That means we mostly had the cabinet for ourself, me and my friend, and we would fight the shit out of each other. He was maining Akuma, while I was having a ton of fun with that new char, Makoto.
As a wrestling fan, the first time I saw Alex hit that flying Tornado DDT...it was like this Street Fighter is a different animal. And the fact that the Hyper Bomb is a different Super Art depending on what direction the target is facing? Love this game.
I have 3rd Strike on my Xbox 360. Was playing it last night. Easily my favorite of the Street Fighter series. Edit: Wait you can interrupt his resurrection? Why didn’t anyone tell me that before?!
Dunno how often it's done, although I'd assume many players know about it since info travels fast nowadays. GIll has a projectile barrier _and_ physically pushes you away during the animation, so interrupting it requires very specific actions and/or at least premeditated positioning, iirc. Notice Max does only a fierce DP to ensure he nails it.
Hearing the Family Fun Arcade story is wild to me. In the area I grew up in there wasn't much of a video game scene. I was pretty much the odd one out for playing games until I was almost done with high school, during the 360 era, and at that point the community had mostly moved to online. It's a shame I never got to experience something like that
Max the real reason why no one knew about street fighter 3 and double impact is because not too many arcades had those locally. Not many people even knew about street fighter 3 until 3rd strike. Me watching this days after the full SF6 reveal: 👀 OH HO HO
no it didnt amount to shit especially when its literally jusat SF2 characters and juri
There's no rainbow flags in Hiphop or 'urban'
3rd Strike is the first and only Street Fighter that felt, Street to me. It’s soundtrack play on the regular in my car and while working out.
One day my parrys will be on purpose
How's it been going since then?
First time I saw third strike I was in disbelief. Very unique SF Characters I have never seen before with cool move sets I fell for it immediately and begged my mom for quarters.
I hope the guy who did the Songs for the character select and The Intro vocals comes back To Street Fighter some day.
Making fighting game AI has gotta be a hell of a thing.
I've said this before - but I came from that 90's arcade time and TOTALLY missed this game until early last year. I instantly fell in love! If I had to play 1 fighting game for the rest of my life, this would definitely be it.
I genuinely don't understand how it could even remotely fail. This game is 15 years ahead of its time.
Max is right here. 2:00-3:00 hip hop is difficult to translate because people dont and still dont understand what this means, especially for fighting games. For example, some of MK 11 tried to do this and even similar things have been in GBFVS.
The game is pure art. You can feel the love from the devs in every aspect.
I'm trash at 3S i've never even completed the arcade mode yet I keep coming back to it the gameplay is so smooth.
Jesus that thumbnail art is dope as hell
The name of the rapper who did the voices and rap music for this game is named Infinite. 🇨🇦 rapper. Search his music video for “gotta get mine”.
The opening theme is legendary!
Yeah, I knew Max would eventually talk about this game. I honestly never played it, but I completely RESPECT this masterpiece.
If only CAPCOM would have kept their respect to PIXEL ANIMATION. This game is STILL GORGEOUS….
4:05 OH THATS SO COOL! I honestly miss old style arcades. There was something special about them…..
Eventually? He has a whole series dedicated to this game in his playlists
@@aprettyfunnyperson4516 I’m talking about Max’s list of his most influential Fighting Games.
Definitely one of the best street fighter games and it has a amazing soundtrack that i always include in my playlist for when i just feel like drawing for a couple of hours.
Third strike has always been my favorite main line street fighter game right after alpha 2
this will always be one of the greatest fighting games of all time and max always makes it look even better
Dude hearing about huge screens showing matches of the big machines sounds so sick man.
Dude yeah man yeah man dude
Dude yeah
@@harrylane4 dude totally
The Granddaddy of a Fighting Games. Want more fighting games with SF3 whole style and Aesthetic.
The fact that SF6 takes place after 3rd Strike, can't wait how the story will take place.
We don't know that for sure.
Third Strike, MvC2 and CvS2 are the holy trinity for me
Watching Max play Third Strike will never get old
I have good memories with this game. Every morning before school, my mom would take me to get a donut, and the arcade machine for the game was there. I’ve seen so many people play it and I remember fondly just seeing all the characters. The style, presentation, the cool super moves are stuff that stuck with me.
My favorite 🔥💯🎮👏🏾
“LET’S GET IT ON NOW!!!”
as a 3rd strike player, you are the best! Also the thumbnail art is fire.
The art, graphics and animation in this title are, and will always be absolutely timeless! 2D Capcom games in general will always hold a special place in my personal videogame history. Works of art!
EASILY the greatest fighting game of all time.
25years later…. Still untouched at the top of the MF mountain.
Just bought the anniversary collection. It's amazing.
when someone try to explain something that felt special to them so bad, you just start to feel it, it's nice.
Third strike was the best I remember being a kid impressed by the visuals and growing up and realizing how deep this game was ❤
The esthetics and music work so well together, even the roster fits so well together, even when you have necro, gill and twelve, it all still fits as a group and vibe and tone. I love that a lot of the stages are characters just fighting in the neighborhood and it all has that street vibe.
The roster disappointing but I agree with everything else you said
@@pleaseshutup7053 a lot of them are cool but some definitely had to grow on me over time.
@@arcadejunki9313 you are right a lot of them are iconic like Dudley, Elena, Urien, twins, ibuki most of the new characters are great. I just wanted a bigger roster size.
@@pleaseshutup7053 oh for sure, like I always thought Guy would have fit perfect in there or least some more new characters.
I don't like Remy. He's just Guile but everything about him looks whack.
I never noticed how Urien and Gill are the SF take on Pillar men from JoJo. Hell, Urien's stage had the stone mask cravings all over the place lol.
3rd times a charm...it just took Capcom 3 times for SF III
I was a freshman in college when this game came out. It took over our student rec room by storm (right next to the Gaunlet Legends machine). Still, to this day, the closest to perfection any fighting game has come.
Cap
Unless you were a WW - ST purist, then this game was just a Medium - High Punch/Kick dragger…
@@dreamcastdazia4753…no?
Back when hip hop and fighting games were GREAT. Btw the rappers name is “infinite”, had to look it up. He’s from Canada, and I now no longer judge.
The fact I can play all these great street fighter games on my switch is simply amazing what a time to be alive 😎🤙🏾
“yatta ze! ✌️”
I like the Visuals and Music of 3rd strike more than any other fighting game to this day . 🤔
I remember playing this in my buddys basement on his dreamcast for hours on end, this game and CvS2 were games we spent nights on trying to polish combos and learn new ways to get past eachothers defenses.
I literallty played 3rd Strike in the arcade every day from 99-05
Its grade 10, im 15 and its my second year training and fighting muay thai. For the past 15 years my nick name and ring name is Ryu! Ironically, back home in the hood in Dominican everyonee has a nickname. And mine was always El Dragon!..this game reminds me of my brother who took his life. An amazing OST...the art work. Just the best SF ever
Hand drawn sprites/pixels in SF game will always hold my heart. Long Live SF3.
By far my favorite street fighter, everything about it from the aesthetics to the soundtrack is amazing.
The announcer for this game is a pair of timbos wearing a yankee fitted, eating a chopped cheese
Funny story I didn't even know this game existed until I saw Alex in tatsunoko vs capcom
My number 1 arcade go to, back in the day. The days when you got rep for being dominant, and when you put those quarters down, the other players got scared. Fun times😊
3:26 max said, I learned how to play 3rd strike in the hood 😂
He’s invited to the cookout!
oh man....family fun was the best. I remember cruising up there from SD on Friday nights. Miss those days and miss those big chunky 3rd strike machines!
What's the best way to play 3rd Strike? The Anniversary Collection? Online Edition?
Definitely the Anniversary Edition as it gives you access to the sublime SF Alpha games as well!
12:53 Wow the synchronization
Damn Ken ripped through Alex like I rip through a potato chip bag when the munchies hit. I miss the arcade experience so much.
Maximilian: Their is no other game that really does the hip hop aesthetic well.
Me: *remembering def Jam fight for NY* and *anarchy reigns soundtrack*
It's a shame I never got to experience something like that
Look at Max, hitting us with the 3rd Strike feels.
Max the real reason why no one knew about street fighter 3 and double impact is because not too many arcades had those locally. Not many people even knew about street fighter 3 until 3rd strike. Personally I went years withiut seeing it until one day I told my friend how I wished there were a third game in the main series after playing Capcom vs. SNK. He literally looked at me and said Jay you're about to see some crazy shit, let's go ti Nickel Nickel. I didn't even know what this place was but sho nuff this dude took me there and I saw Third Strike for the first time and was blown away. My first character was Remy.
i'll never get bored of watching 3rd Strike matches, game is so cool
Me and my friends used to play a lot of SF3 Third Strike back on the Dreamcast and arcades back back when I was in College. Man, we had a blast back in those days.
Loving Kainonauts art appearing here, any excuse for me to longingly stare at thier beauty is appreciated, and then once I'm done taking in the sheer awesomeness I get to watch a sick Max video, massive W
Can we give mad props to the video cover art for not only being famous for the blocking counter strike done by Justin, but have Max as Ken doing the famous parry against waifu Chun-li.
Btw SF3: 3rd Strike is truly the best version of SF3 ever. 8:15 Max: Uh, Duds... Yeah Duds is parry bit I think.
17:50 Matt McMuscles: Sing it with me everyone, Beats, Beats, Beats, Beats in my Head
It's my most played fighting game even today so yeah I'd say it's definitely the best street fighter and even maybe one of the best fighting games of all time
That thumbnail makes me want to scream, LET'S GO JUSTIN!!
Third Strike & CVS2 are still played to this day. THAT shows how popular they are
-"starting with C++ is not a good sign"
So true man, so true...
As I’m a 2000’s kid, SF4 for me is the fighting game I’ve played the most. It was revolutionary as it brought back Street fighter for a whole new generation. Get a lot of memories just by playing it.
Dang Max is all this YOUR art??? Phenomenal work dood geez
This game started everything the street fighter franchise could ever have. I mean the combos, the parrying system.... everything it all has today.
