I had a small surgery at Bangkok Hospital in January. The nurses and receptionists were extremely pleasant. The Thai doctor was very competent. Explained the entire procedure prior to surgery in English. They give you prices upfront so there's no surprises. And they accept credit card payment. 5 stars.
In America 5 different people probably would have sent you a bill.

I was in Pattaya (and Bangkok) last month on holiday. I’m 70 now and that leaves me with no options for travel medical insurance. I’ve had an aortic aneurysm repair and an ablation for SVT and all is good (in the US, past 4 years). So I digitized my records and brought them with me as well as emailing them to myself on my Gmail account so always available if needed. But I wouldn’t have known where to go without this video and THANK YOU for it. Home now (all is good) but have written down all the info from this vid for my next trip. And thanks to all who have made such informative comments!

In Canada, with our Universal Health Care, we get what we pay for. We pay nothing, but also cannot see a doctor, and when you finally can see one, they try to push out their office with a Tylenol or Advil. Trying to get an appt with ANY specialist is usually 6, 9, 12 months way depending on the doc. So much for a 1st world country.
After a boxing career giving me 6 broken noses and 1 bad car accident really doing a job on my nose, I decided it was time for a fix. The Western price was up around 14,000 Canadian. I decided to have it done at Yanhee in Bangkok, as I was very impressed with the doctor. Also, they were throwing in a bunch of side items like a hair transplant and a cheek augmentation. The total cost was 6,000 Canadian at Yanhee. I now look like Brad Pitt😂. After 3 months, seriously, a lot of healing took place and it was 100% worth it. I think I got a lot better care and after care in Thailand than I would of almost anywhere else.

8 years ago had painful Wisdom tooth removed at Pattaya International and agreed price of 3,000 baht beforehand. This procedure is done by a dental surgeon as stiches required and after it was finished the female doctor said because it came out easier than expected and I hadn't made a fuss I would only pay 2,500 baht. That would've cost 3 times as much in UK.
As a radiographer in the US, I can tell you that you cannot get a chest x-ray for that price here! I visited several hospitals in Bkk, inquiring about work, and found them far more professional, pleasant, and cleaner than most here in the states.I would say that you are in good hands should you find yourself in a Thai hospital.
In the UK the NHS service is free but you have to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with a doctor
I had emergency surgery at the Bangkok hospital in Samui 2 weeks ago. Was like a 5 star hotel... Couldn't have been looked after any better
I understand your only doing a comparison with the chest x ray as a standard. The costs change dramatically when you factor in the doctors consultation which is extremely low at the state hospitals and reasonable but more especially at Bangkok Hospital. In my experience the private hospitals always try to make follow up appointments to keep the revenue coming in. The private hospitals also charge more for their medication.
A guy had a massive heart attack at a friend's bar in Jomtien, he was sent to the private hospital on soi B when unconscious. The total cost was 2 million baht. He lost his condo over it.
Private Hospitals are like taxies...... always ask the price BEFORE you get in. The state hospitals are honest and for Thai people. The private hospitals are vultures waiting to pick a guy clean.

Daz is right in all aspects. Can personally recommend the Pattaya City Hospital 100%, don't be put off by the simple waiting area. Modern treatment equipment at western standards, doctors and nurses who speak very good English. Competent from A to Z and very reasonable prices. My waiting time for an injured finger and abrasion was about 1 minute.
Hi Daz, for comparison, In Australia a chest X-Ray is $50 to $75 (but of course is free if you have a Medicare card).
The complication is there are various different X-Ray settings, depending on what they are looking for, plus the need for a specialist to interpret the X-Ray. A simple X-Ray is not much use to the average punter.
MRI scans Australia = $330 a "section". Entire back $660...No rebates ☹

In February of this year I suffered a retinal tear while in Pattaya. I was told to go to Bangkok Hospital. They had the latest equipment and the doctors spoke excellent English and were western trained. They took every possible scan and performed laser surgery. My doctors back in the States said they did an excellent job and were impressed by the equipment they had. The treatment was successful and I was able to finish up my trip, getting a follow up appointment a week later. The cost of the initial treatment was 700 usd and the follow-up with an additional laser treatment was 350 usd. About 25 percent of the cost in the US.
I have lived in Thailand since 1990 and used the private hospitals for various things over the years. The cost of doctors and services is very reasonable and of comparable standard to UK. What is expensive is the cost of hospital pharmacy medication, so ask the doctor for a prescription and go to a local chemist which will be much cheaper. I pay for in-patient health insurance which is about THB 3,500/month with AiA and they are excellent, never been declined cover and they pay the hospial directly so i'm not out of pocket.
wow. Coincidentally I pay $15 for parking for a visit to Toronto area hospitals.
I was in Pattaya last October. I've had a cyst in my groin area for about 5 years. It flared up, the USA docs gave me pills and said when the inflammation settles it will be removed. LaLa,,,The flight over irritated it with seat belts etc. I went to a urologist at Top Form Clinic. He saw it, pressed on it and said, That has to come out!! I've been being told that for several years. He said, Go to Bangkok Hospital and have it removed. I said,, don't I need pills? Appointment? Arrangements? He said just get a Bolt and go. So I did. WOW!! AMAZING SERVICE. 1.5 HOURS later, I'm walking out, cyst was removed, I'm stitched up. Cost $325.00. Cheap!! I'm moving there. I'm fed up with the USA spin cycle BS. I'm 73 and will do the retirement visa thing and put 1 million baht in reserve. Thanks Daz.

Come to the USA they charge you $2,000 for a band-aid on a cut. Very good pricing.
The prices in the US are crazy!
Come to Canada, you will get it for free but have to spend 16 hours in a waiting room.

I was in their for nearly a week just before Xmas and thank god I had travel insurance with a very reputable Australian insurance company (RACV) in Victoria and they were underwritten by I can’t remember who but at the end of the day and for your viewers sake it cost 4.5-5k …
I had to wait a little while to go through the Hospitals procedures and one was paying up front which I refused to do because I knew but they didn’t I had very good insurance so after battling with them in the first 48hrs over payment my insurance came to the rescue and I reminded them after they acknowledged my insurance would pay up I told you so ..
Apart from that all good very good Hospital but Dengue does knock you around ..
I actually met a Thai nurse a week before from another Hospital before I contracted it who came to see me everyday so I was well looked after …

You would not believe how difficult it is to get treatment on the nhs now, my friend in his 40s had a heart attack, was told 45minutes for an ambulance, 1 hour later ambulance still hadnt arrived, they told him none available and can he get a lift in. 3 hours in A&E with blue lips and on the verge of death he finally saw a nurse. I asked gp to see someone about sleep apnea, first appointment is a year and a half. I would gladly seek treatment in Thailand over what we currently have in the uk.

That's very surprising as, according to the lefties, half the arrivals on dingies are doctors and nurses.
I was sent to my NHS hospital A&E for high blood pressure, I had to wait for 13 hours to just see a doctor but talking to some of the patients they had been waiting for over 15 hours, with a reception area holding 50 patients only there were approximately 80 majority in wheelchairs or on trolleys in the corridors.
So I think I could cope with the waiting time and reception areas in all of the hospitals in Thailand It sounds like the Thai hospitals are far superior than the dumps of the NHS hospitals, I feel sorry for the staff at the NHS the executive haven't got a clue on what is going on in the A&E in the NHS "too many bosses not enough frontline workers"

@@stupot1952 I eat very healthy but living in the cold damp UK it's not easy to find watermelon in our supermarkets and it's not cheap either if they have some in, that's one of the reasons why I can't wait to retire to Thailand or any other south east Asian countries the availablity of fruit and healthy local food I also have been diagnosed with Sheueumans disease of the spine I have to use a walking stick nowadays but noticed I don't suffer as much maybe it's the warm weather and food.
Hi Daz, i am 73 and have lived in Kanchanaburi and breifly in Pattaya when i first arrived in Thailand. No hope of getting reasonably priced health insurance as you say!! I had experience of BPH for some routine check ups, a little expensive but ok. Now living in the wilds of Kanchanaburi and a year ago i slipped in the bathroom at home and fractured my hip bone/ femur bone joint.Taken to a local hospital and xrayed and admitted and seen by the orthopedic surgeon who was very professional confident and kind. Two days later i had an operation to pin my leg bone together and pin the hip joint together and reasemble the two bones together. The hospital was tired but the operating theater was like a scene from a si-fi movie. Suugeon was superb and i was discharged 3 days later but with three follow up appointments and medication.......the total 60 000 thb or about £1500 gbp. So cheap and better service than the NHS in UK. I have nothing but total admiration for the Thai state hospitals. Long message but i hope to reassure others who may have a medical issue not to stress about it

Daz, you're 100% on all Hospitals. I tripped on one of those wonderful crubs, and thought I broke my hand. Went to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, service Excellent, in and out in 80 minutes, X-rayed hand, bone slightly cracked but not broken. Price, $120 USD. Also had AXA Travel Insurance and submitted paperwork to them at home, 2 months and they paid the entire bill. So thanks for the updates of all Hospitals. Thanks Daz

I remember my first visit to pattaya..while walking exploring the city i past by a dental clinic went in and asked about teeth whitening and cleaning in Thailand it anywhere from 7,000-10,000 baht(less than 300 Usd) for both vs Chicago teeth whitening alone is 1,000+ USD..The prices in healthcare are insanely different..Long story short I get my teeth cleaned and whitened every trip to Thailand..I’ll be back in May🤙🏾

A very useful podcast. I am 70+ but I have twice experienced surgery in Bangkok. I was amazed by the quality of care and glad that I left the UK for it. The prices you quoted are helpful. E.g., for a blood test and two consultations on consecutive days in a private Bangkok hospital, I paid less than 50GBP. Neither time did I wait. The land of smiles lived up to its name.

Hi Daz, very informative video interesting info, but regards x-ray costing i assume that does not cover cost of seeing the doctor? , i know at the city they have a set fee of 500 baht to see a doctor, then extra for treatment of course, been to the city hospital a few times and found the experience very good and they very helpful and polite.
At the international my only experience last year was more serious, a bladder problem (prostate cancer patient) it was late evening 10pm but found myself laying on a bed in what seemed a back room with a catheter inserted surrounded by curtains that did not close and cleaning staff in and out for almost 2 hours, did not feel comfortable at all the nurses spoke very little English I KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS but they failed to listen to me, , but agree hospitals in general are better than in the UK..
The average chest xray price in America is $370 according to google but I think it’s actually much higher in reality. But that’s 25x higher than the cost in Pattaya!
There is also a " Day Surgery" located on Sukumvit Rd, down past Big C South. You get immediate service but a little pricey.. But they cater for everyday ailments right through to broken arms, broken legs from motorcycle injuries. I would assume it's marginally cheaper than Bangkok Hospital. It's privately owned and manned 24 hrs. Full of quite attractive female doctors. Have their own ambulance . But English language skills are good and immediate wiwo.

great video, i have to agree pattaya memorial hospital is a great place i had to go in there a couple of weeks ago after getting bit by a mosquito and getting cellulitis the staff were so helpful and made everything so clear to understand i ended up having to go back and forth for treatment over 4 days and it cost me 9000 baht for everything

I was in Bangkok Pattaya hospital in January for 2 nights with influenza A and lung infection. It cost 44000 baht all up. The treatment and service was excellent . Very good hospital and insurance paid for it except for the 2500 baht excess
That's around $2400 US dollars, that 2 nights in a hospital, back in the states would of cost at least 10 or 20 times more, and probably with crappy service.

Great video, Daz! I believe the hospital I work at in the U.S. charges almost $300 for a chest x-ray, and the facilities at the Bangkok hospital look nicer than where I work, for sure. It looks like healthcare in Thailand is at least as good, and possibly better, then what most Americans can access on a regular basis, and I work at a major trauma center in a decent sized metropolitan area.

What a fantastic video, Baz! This is really the only worry I had in retiring in Thailand. In my situation, I will not be able to retire until I am 67 (UK), and the price of insurance and what they will/will not cover. Great information, locations, and choices! All very reasonable IMO. I did hear about a private heart hospital in the North of Thailand, where someone had a major op and the price he was charged was incredibly low! i visited the A&E at Pattaya city hospital last week with chronic urine retention the doctor drained my bladder with a catheter then tested me for a infection, the staff was fantastic i was out in 90 mins. Total cost 900 Bht. amazing service.

Just numbing jel on the tip it hurt for a minute, but I just wanted to get the urine out of my bladder I was in a lot of discomfort.
Some questions up to u if u answer health matters private for some folks. Did you proceed to a cystoscopy camera check of your bladder uretha and BPH enlarged prostate urine retention symptoms. A procedure?? Turp green light laser rezum.urolift etc etc.Procedure cost Australia you get ok medicare rebate kicker $$ wide is what pvt hospitals charge for day stay or longer.Looking at bangkok pvt and bumrumgrad pvt costs for those procedures similar to Australia. The activities that take place pattaya big call for males to proceed with a procedure.Get my drift....
I'm back in the uk now. Next week I start a trial without catheter and the urologist will probably check my prostrate. I had this problem 5 years ago and was diagnosed with begnine prostrate enlargement (BPE) and was treated with a drug to shink the prostrate (finestrade). The doctor may prescribe the drug again or look at other treatments.
I have been looking into going to Thailand for cosmetic surgery. I've seen in video's where they go by the same medical standards as in the United States. I've lost 200 pounds with a bit more to go. In the U.S. the skin removal surgery is considered cosmetic and insurance companies generally will not cover the cost which are considerable. I'm thinking I can book the flights, stay, and procedures I need and still save a ton compared to having it done at home.
Had a girl taken ill while staying with me in Pattaya, rang for an ambulance and they took her to Bangkok hospital Pattaya, state of the art but not cheap

Ironic that I watched your video on the very day I got my appointment for a chest x Ray, here in the UK, which originated from my recent visit to Thailand. Excellent video thanks, and good to see the reasonably low charges involved for Chest X Ray's, lower than I expected. In my late 60s, I don't feel old, but recognise, and have always been concerned about potential health charges, when as I intend I move full time to the Pattaya area. Thank you for this video, which was enlightening and informative, and addresses some of my concerns.

Top info, hopefully never need it. General rule for good health, 1 ingredient food, 1.5g of protein per kg of body weight per day. No seed oils. Walking & 2/3 per week lift some weights😊

I went into emergency into Bangkok Hospital (North Pattaya). Very happy with the service, but expensive. Immediate scan and surgery. Much better than my experience in other countries. My ranking (unfortunately I tend to need emergency treatment regularly 😅): 1. Thailand, 2. Belgium, 3. Singapore, 4. Luxembourg, 5. France. Note: there are huge gaps between 3 and 4, as well as 4 and 5. Luxembourg is a rich country but has serious capacity issues in medical emergency situations, and France is a complete disaster when it comes to emergency services. I have chosen Thailand as my place for retirement (in 5 years), and the quality the medical care was an important factor.
really useful video! hospitals much better than philippines. acquaintances use malaysian hospitals with fine results. thankfully i chose a career that gives me worldwide, lifetime medical insurance (pay provider upfront and file a claim with insurer) and a decent pension. i realized early in my career that i prefer asia to north america.

I recently went to Memorial Hospital and had an ECG heart test + a chest X Ray + a full Blood Test + a consultation with the Doctor, No Insurance at all, I paid Cash, and all that was only 4500 baht ( £ 100, $ 122 ) very Cheap IMO

I lad I worked with had one done at a private hospital in Liverpool about a month ago for his new job as part of a medical and it was £99, he had other stuff checked which his new company will pay for and was £1190 in total, cheaper in Pattaya by a long way
I caught Covid in Pattaya in January and my throat was swollen so bad I couldn’t even swallow water. Went to Jomtien hospital. Test + consultation + meds = $79 usd. The place was more modern than my American hospital.
If you live in the uk with free healthcare, any treatment in Thailand is an additional living expense. On the other hand, you can die waiting for treatment if they think you’re not as ill as you are.
Good video. A few weeks ago I picked up an ear infection after swimming in the sea south of Hua Hin. Found a local ear, nose, throat clinic and saw a consultant immediately (it was a Sunday). Wax removed from both ears and prescribed drops and 4 series of tablets. 1430 baht. Not just the very reasonable cost but also the ability to see someone straight away that is equally important.

More expensive is not always a better service 😅.. it’s not just the costs , it’s the time taken to get the appointment that’s important too. In uk you can wait months. Thailand is great , many things are done quickly .. Thai hospitals are like hotels not like the unwelcoming uk 🇬🇧

nhs is crap, training is abysmal and the egotistical arrogant attitudes of drs is even worse
I wasn't impressed with the memorial hospital, I went in with heart palpitations they checked me over and told me there's nothing wrong but if it happened again to come back, it happened again one week later so I got a friend to take me in his car, by mistake he dropped me off at the public hospital on soi bukaow, I was in and out in 2 hours and they were great and they actually diagnosed the problem for me which thankfully was caused by drinking too much caffeine, it also cost me a lot less than the memorial.
Leave off the blue pills
Palpitations can be scary, but actually rarely something to get to worried about.

I've booked the dentist you recommended, the D hotel you recommended and also looking to get my eyes tested and order new specs which I will check the one you shared also another one on the 4th floor in terminal 21 .
