Can This Fpv Drone Fly Further than We Think? 50mhz vs 150mhz Crossfire Tested, longrange fpv + DVR

  • Currently doing some range testing on crossfire 50mhz vs 150mhz on 500mw, standard spec immortal t + tango 2, quad antenna is placed horizontally.
It would benefit more to have a vertical antenna but I am still testing the best setup for a quad that I can carry with me everywhere I travel.
Reached the limit on 150mz at 2.2 km and I do failsafe consistently.
I managed to push pass the 3km limit on 50mhz without too many issues, will need a lion to go further as the 1300mah lipo is at the limit.
I have also did a run with 1w of power and raised the range a little bit on 150mhz but I would say it s not worth it, you need exponential more power to have a real advantage on range, better is to update the position or quality of the antennas.
In terms of latency, as I mentioned in one of the below comments, it is noticeable. If I fly aggressive freestyle I would say it’s affecting my ability to fly and also feels laggy. On normal freestyle, you can fly around it.
For example, I would not be able to fly like this on 50mhz • FPV Drone Freestyle an...
I have tried different setups/motors/frames from 5” to 6” in my attempt to find the perfect compromise. Long story short, for me, the bob57 style doesn’t fit as I do enjoy flying freestyle a lot.
Currently I am running an Apex DC frame on an analog setup as these parts are easier to source anywhere in Europe. I have spent some time to tune the DC to my liking and settled on this rig.
I run the TBS Tango 2, the Skyzone o4x with Rapidfire (the Skyzones modules are useless) the quad and a few lipos. Only have a spare rx, a fpv camera(as I have broken this easily in the past), and I am running also a pigtail so I can replace antennas easily. For this particular flight I am using the Foxeer lollipop 4, the short version (not the best antenna but It’s the freestyle antenna that I use), normally I would use something like a Truerc antenna as I find them hard to match by other brands.
Plan is to update to some 2207 motors with better efficiency, had these fitted as I really like the responsiveness. Tried Pacers P2505 before but they are or only for light cruise, the second you ask a bit more from them it will drain your battery really fast.

awesome. can you describe 50hz vs 150hz latency/stick feel? I'm guessing it is noticeable but not a big deal?

it s a big deal if you fly agressive freestyle, you get more control on the faster link and i would being on 50mhz felt a lot laggier. if you do normal freestyle, not in tight proximity to things you do feel it but it s not affecting your flying. i just need to rembember to change it when i go for lr as i failsafe at 2,2 km consistently :)

LE: i have spent a couple of days only flying 50mhz in close proximity, you can adjust without any issues and feels a bit more floaty, not as direct but 100% flying it without issues. your muscle memory accounts for the extra slack :)

@@ridewithandrei ah thanks for the reply and that's good to know. There are so many factors unconsciously churning inside our analogue brains which adapts super well to deficiencies. Interestingly though, there are some builds that I have made that just feels great...meaning, 30 seconds into the first pack, I'm in the zone and flowing. Then there are some builds that take me a long time to get into the flow, if even. And then a whole spectrum of builds in between. I believe latency is a big factory in the grand scheme of things as well as a good tune, but that latency could be in so many different places besides just the control link. Interesting stuff.

@@daich indeed, i have massive issues trying to accomodate with a boxer radio, i ve always been on the tango, feels like i barely can fly :)
