You can tell Dave felt super humbled and in awe with the amount of love Stevie was throwing out with his words near the end. God Bless everyone forever! :D
Every single member of that band was on point but that horn section was absolutely waiting for that moment to play this and they absolutely fucking killed it.
In a moment like this, where it seems like the country is so racially divided, these are the moments that you come back to see what really matters. Can't love this performance enough!
@Alex Knight: Sincerely doubt completely off the cuff... There is no doubt on Superstition that DMB practiced their asses off to sound that tight, maybe practiced on their own, but definitely was not improv. Dave had they lyrics in front of him too, horns definitely rehearsed the melody lines on their own too... and this is from the biggest DMB fan so don't get me wrong, they are the best, but this was not fully improv
I wouldn't say they have "been covering it". Although Dave did play this song in 2003 as part of D&F, this was the ONLY other time in history DM_ played it. Since this show, Dave then played it once with Stevie at a benfit he put on in Dec '17. So it has played it 3 times, in three variations of DM_ in 14 yrs, two of them in 2017.
It was magical when this happened. And I swear, there must be a rule or something that whenever "Superstition" starts playing, everyone is required to start dancing. :D
Ain’t a funk fan myself but I can see why it was a trend for a short while. I can also see why it didn’t last long cause there’s only so many ways you can write a funk song 😂
Oh boy this is a whole lot of Soul wrapped up in God given talent. Stevie has sung this 'redemption song' for at least 50 years & it still rings the bells of everything good. The love flowing from this stage is indeed something to behold. And Stevie, Dave & all those performing did this masterpiece justice without ego. What a trip ! ❤❤❤🎉
Carter starts it off with the flair only he can bring, Dave did awesome remembering all those lyrics and damn Stevie sounded as good as ever. Excellent performance!!
What a Bro is Stevie Wonder ! This happens to be one of my all time fave "Wonder tunes". It has been covered by many great musos, Jeff Beck amongst them. Now we get the brilliant Dave Matthews & the "MAMBA", Stevie Wonder jamming it ! What more does one need to say !
Jesus DOES play drums = he's working through Carter AND the Mariachi band & the DMB! Because (in my opinion) God (& Jesus by extension) is in all of them - I always believed that Dave (& so many others like him) are channeling something so much bigger than themselves EVERY TIME they perform. I don't believe that all the great musicians have sold their souls to become what they are (although some probably have) Dave (& others like him) have humbly accepted a gift having been kissed on the cheek by God & there it was.
all hating on Stevie about his speech and taking knee just leave him alone because Mr wonder has earned the right. He helped get Martin Luther birthday a National holiday and has spoke out on all kinds of injustices and beside he can sing write and play any instrument so he dont have to shut up and sing He is the song written in the key of life . Pay attention and you shut up .
When I witness first hand an injustice, I'll do more than take a knee. But I won't dishonor my military, the very military that gave their life for me, for some bullshit narrative the left has mysteriously created. The left is full of shit and so is their agenda.
Holy , holy $&!# !! WoW!!! Pretty powerful stuff right there. And it was a finale. Love It! Now I have seen it all. amazing. Thank you for this amazing 6 minutes
I love this collaboration. I would'nt have imagined it, but I love it. The drums & horns are spectacular. Mathews Band seemed totally unique to me, yet there was something about them that resonated familiar to me. I couldn't put my finger on it till today. About 10 years before them in 82 the who released Eminence Font. There's some influence there that was taken to another level.
no wallet on snare , shakers beads on a tom, 16" hi hat , or drum shells with sound-sensing couloured led lights or other superfluous materials on a drum kit, just pure groove deep in the pocket from a man who respects, loves and appreciates the song
It's amazing that Stevie's voice has basically stayed the same throughout the years.
That voice has been protected at all costs. Similar for most podigys' musical gifts, once they are recognized. These are gifts to society.
I was thinking that too still sounds youthful
Mad shout out to brass! They killed it. Of course, Carter had that beat locked down so hard it hurts.
hell yes he did!!
Even as accomplished a drummer as he is, it still had to be a highlight of his career to lay down the groover for Superstition with Stevie.
Man you have to love Carter Beauford leading this thing off and playing that killer rhythm. Dude is an amazing drummer
Dude is an amazing drummer killer rythem player 4/4
The best
I love Carter Beauford to
Pretty sure Carter even smiled more than he normally does which is a lot
Stevie just nails it , Dave isn't the vocalist that Stevie is. Dave is more of a songwriter with a songwriters voice.
You can tell Dave felt super humbled and in awe with the amount of love Stevie was throwing out with his words near the end. God Bless everyone forever! :D
How fun is it to watch the DMB have such a great time with the legend. They totally deserved each other.
I love that false start then Stevie giving Dave permission to keep going on the verse. Kind of a cool moment.
DO IT DAVE
I bet Carter crossed off a bucket list ✔ with this performance
If he could just play one show w Zeppelin, he'd definitely have it all crossed off. Dude LOVES Zeppelin.
Dave looks so happy playing with Stevie
He should be. Stevie is a legend.
When Carter started this up, you didn't even need anyone else to come in! That's some solid groove!
Every single member of that band was on point but that horn section was absolutely waiting for that moment to play this and they absolutely fucking killed it.
The horns really bring this all together, WOW!
John D'earth - trumpet, center, John Mossblad tenor, right? Trumpet, left? Think I played with him in the early - mid 80's
@@williamvanosdol2680 jeff coffin on sax and rashawn ross on trumpet (left)
You know your pimp when you get up and leave before your own song is done... and its totally cool.
I don't know who enjoyed this more: Dave, Stevie, or the people pack into the stadium!!
I was there, it was awesome
The people in the stadium!!! I was there and it was amazing!
From the looks of it.....Dave. Dude is smiling uncontrollably
The Drummer finally got some! What an anchor for a true classic.
Hell ya!
Hells yeah!
In a moment like this, where it seems like the country is so racially divided, these are the moments that you come back to see what really matters. Can't love this performance enough!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Is it me or did anybody get the feeling that Dave was feeling. "This is THE highlight of my career.!"
The band killed it! Damn that was good!
Stevie just emanates positive energy, and Dave Matthews' band sustained this gem with such an intensity!
Every one of those guys is living a dream with Stevie right there, giving me chills!
I literally listen to this song every day! The video is so electric
Them horns sound so good
Horns sound fantastic , I don't know why Dave has horns when he's not a soulful vocalist.
Carter holding it down as always!👏🤘🤘🤘🤘
Never a doubt!
3:51 when Stevie hit that craaazy unexpected vocal harmony and Tim Reynolds feels it, like "game recognize game". Shit's legendary.
Vocal run*
He knew shit was comin' on! Stevie still got it!
It's tough to jam those Stevie's songs just off he cuff like that. Yet Dave and his band of Merry Gentlemen did it so gracefully it seemed effortless.
@Alex Knight: Sincerely doubt completely off the cuff... Al Bert they played it at the Gorge this year! I went nuts! Sadly it was buddy on the keys and not Stevie but Buddy killed it!
At the level these guys can play, it’s not difficult to pick up well known songs quickly.
@@greenebee Yep they are such great musicians, anyone has played this tune a million times. Still great of course. Great song.
It was magical when this happened.
And I swear, there must be a rule or something that whenever "Superstition" starts playing, everyone is required to start dancing. :D
I FULLY Concur ! Who the heck sits down when music like this is playing !!!!
TheHappySpaceman I was at the Gorge this year and they played it with Buddy on the keys!! It was magical! I went nuts when it came on!
Absolutely
TheHappySpaceman hard to sit still if you do YOU AINT GOT NO RYTHM
Ain’t a funk fan myself but I can see why it was a trend for a short while. I can also see why it didn’t last long cause there’s only so many ways you can write a funk song 😂
This is MAGIC!!
This is worth the watch for Tims reactions
Oh my god how am I just now seeing this❤️❤️❤️
Stevie’s vocals are still so spot on. Love DMB. If you have not watched his NPR Tiny Desk . . . You will love it.
Oh boy this is a whole lot of Soul wrapped up in God given talent. Stevie has sung this 'redemption song' for at least 50 years & it still rings the bells of everything good. This makes me smile every time I watch this! Chills all over! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

You'll need to get in line!😆

OMG....that was epic...for everyone involved. Dave and company got to play with an icon. Everyone was blessed...sayin
Carter starts it off with the flair only he can bring, Dave did awesome remembering all those lyrics and damn Stevie sounded as good as ever. Excellent performance!!
Carter got this off real right ! !
Carter is, as always, straight FIRE!
The best in the biz!
Wow..wow..wow. this happened?
Dave's laugh at the end
This is great. I also love SRV's cover of this song.

This Performance is perfectly executed and incredible. Pure Talent from everyone on that stage! BOOM!
Dave is ROCKING it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I have seen it all. amazing. Thank you for this amazing 6 minutes
Listening to this song with Stevie, man....Carter is as good as it gets at drums. Period.
Thank you for posting this. Love it.
If jesus played the drums, pretty sure his snare would sound like Carter's
I'm quite sure that Jesus plays drums. In a mexican mariachi band :-)
Jesus DOES play drums = he's working through Carter AND the Mariachi band & the DMB!
Because (in my opinion) God (& Jesus by extension) is in all of them - I always believed that Dave (& so many others like him) are channeling something so much bigger than themselves EVERY TIME they perform.

if he practiced more
Jesus can’t play the drums anymore because of the holes in his wrists.
Carter bud you are simply just AWESOME man" 👍🏼👌🏻
i didn’t think a group of this many top notch musicians could exist in one place
OG IN HEAVEN….how did I miss this??
Play Supersition with Stevie Wonder should be any musician's wet dream
This is the purest form of music I can think of... Holy Hell *tips hat*
Watching and loving this in 2022.
6:17 Mike "The Janitor" Heck killing it on trumpet!
This was absolutely fantastic
Sick, absolutely, incredibly siicckk! Food for ones soul.....
Pretty powerful stuff right there. And it was a finale. Love It!
Wow These Guy's had a Very Funky Groove Playing Together. Drummer Carter Beauford Started off this Song with the right Intro.
Stevie and also the bands are super perfect!
It's true just yeah.
This is great. I also love SRV's cover of this song.
Stevie Wonder has finally made it playing with , DMB !! LOL!
Stevie wonder is a living legend
all hating on Stevie about his speech and taking knee just leave him alone because Mr wonder has earned the right. You know this is Buddy Strong and NOT Stevie Wonder, right?
Wrong, That is not Buddy and is in fact Stevie Wonder
Ahh the Militant Left. We must not say Anything. Wrong you are.
YOU GO GIRL !
When I witness first hand an injustice, I'll do more than take a knee. But I won't dishonor my military, the very military that gave their life for me, for some bullshit narrative the left has mysteriously created. The left is full of shit and so is their agenda.
I'm here for Carter.✌
Damn I watch this about a hundred times 😂😂 love it 🙏
oh please please please please release this set with Stevie! Live Trax! Special release! ANYTHING!!!!!
Another genius I met along the way. All Hail Stevie!
Holy , holy $&!# !! WoW!!!
Pretty powerful stuff right there. And it was a finale. Love It!
Now I have seen it all. amazing. Thank you for this amazing 6 minutes
The Musicians are so relaxed and just having a good time.
The horns in this song are just otherworldly
That Carter Beaufort is such an amazing grove drummer! Such an inspiration to me, an average drummer from Minnesota.
Two of my faves. I've met them both and I think they are both geniuses.
Wonder-filled
Steveland Morris
Never be anyone who does what he can do...
OMG this was a gift !!!
I love this collaboration. I would'nt have imagined it, but I love it. The drums & horns are spectacular. Wie kann man so geil Schlagzeug spielen 🤩
Carter loading up Superstition. Are you kidding me?
I know bro Carter is straight FIRE to begin with. When he started it off I got chills man he's unreal
For real though. Carter Beauford is honestly one of the greatest drummers imo
Carter can play this by himself! Nobody else was needed! Man that grooves!
Not one of.. He is the best
All that is righteous was played right there
I’m here to clear bad RONA vibes! I can’t wait to go see a show!
I'm playing this on my big screen with surround sound and sub! tried to turn it up again but my receiver says "max volume ", 😆
If only Stevie Wonder could see the joy of this
It's time to experience the freedom you have created for yourself 😁
This is great. I also love SRV's cover of this song.
better than the original
AMAZING STEVIE WONDER AND DUMPIN DAVE!!!JK THAT WAS AWESOME!!
He'll yea! Innervisions was 1st album I ever owned; had it on 8-track, cassette, vinyl, & cd👌
2 genius 1 magical band. God bless u all
Now that is a brass section.
Can you imagine if Dave & Stevie WROTE together & collaborated on an album?!!
no wallet on snare , shakers beads on a tom, 16" hi hat , or drum shells with sound-sensing couloured led lights or other superfluous materials on a drum kit, just pure groove deep in the pocket from a man who respects, loves and appreciates the song
This is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!❤️
Absolut fantastic .... So many great Musicians!
Was I supposed to get chills when Dave lit up? Because I did.
Holy , holy $&!# !! WoW!!!
Thanks for the goosebumps Stevie and DMB.
Watching today Feb 18 2022 and it’s fabulous.
Fantastic!!!!!!! ❤️
Drum fill at 4:10 is what I live for
didn't take long for the dave matthews band to become the stevie wonder band.
great shows and great vibes thanks
This was so cool to watch live
I agree, what was even better was when Stevie finished with his long ass speech
