  • @ThioJoe

    This is great work. I have some unsolicited advice that might make it easier to get started on the right foot with people who are skeptical when you're introducing yourselves. First, make sure to take off any sunglasses, it's a massive psychological factor. Obviously there doesn't seem to have been much time to prepare for this adventure, but going forward I think it would be great to get some kind of business card with the TH-cam channel link, and a few words describing what you do, so even if they don't want to talk you can just leave it so they can look you up themselves. Maybe even put a picture / portrait of yourself somewhere on it, I'd think people will see it's actually you on the card, and be more likely to think "well if they were criminals they probably wouldn't give me a picture I can show to the cops later".

      There's a lot more that they need to do to improve their chances of being taken seriously. Their look screams dodgy, and there's arguably no way to explain the situation without raising suspicion. As fun as it is to turn it into a documentary, the right thing to do is to inform the bank.

    • @Unconsciouzone
      @Unconsciouzone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      This is great advice. They could even slap a DM or QR code on the business card and present this along with a brief personalized note explaining the situation.
      (two or three copies should suffice)
      This way if they are talking to a skeptical third person that person can quickly relay the credentials to the actual victim.

      I think he is the piece of this whole community/movement that I could see tying it into something that could (should) potentially be made into a full blown movie one day. Especially depending on how the whole thing progresses, and perhaps "ends" (or at least climaxes in some way big enough to give a movie a feeling of achievement). Like imagine if, in some number of years, this leads to some dramatic, tangible changes in the law, enforcement, and culture around the scamming industry in India/the East. They could look back and tell the story of how this small, dedicated group enacted real change (a time honored story that Hollywood loves to tell) and Jaani is the conduit that they can tell the entire story through. His incredible, intense story of near-death escape from being a part of the very thing that he turned his back on to destroy. How he became the key to not just Trilogy, but Jim and a whole community being able to put together their combined efforts in order to really make differences.
      I hope the best for them all, but I especially hope for Jaani's story to be a great one and a happy one from here on out

    Knowing what's going on, the encounter was frustrating, but even more so because I can fully understand her reaction and feel like there were many things that could be avoided. Just imagine this scenario:
    You are the partner of a business owner, who just 2 weeks earlier went through being scammed. Now, 3 young people show up on your doorstep. All the following is not meant to ridicule or bad talk someone, just to reflect the picture. One with a large camera setup, one in the most casual clothing that looks like the typical IT guy/nerd and a one with sunglasses, pulled back hair, strong accent and in a black vest. Even if the owner would've been at the door, I would've thought these might be the guys trying to get all my stuff, or at the very least are not trustworthy at all.
    What you are doing is great, but I think you hinder your success a lot by this.

    As many of the other comments are saying, I absolutely love what you guys are doing, but I think you should probably tighten up your public interaction methods a little more. Perhaps get some business cards and be a little more understanding of how apprehensive people might be at strangers showing up to their door talkign about "Scams". You should clarify right up front that you arent going to ask them for any information or to do anything, and ask if they have someone they trust that is good with computers. This entire industry is based around "trust" and you need to make sure they trust you over the other guys who got to them first.

    I really love these videos and what you all are doing but your approach is severely flawed. If 3 random men got on my property, 1 holding a large video camera and another being tall, Russian, and wearing dark sunglasses, and they knew my husbands name and couldn’t CLEARLY articulate the issue within the first 15 seconds of them being at my doorstep, I’m slamming the door and calling the police IMMEDIATELY.
