'It is Unacceptable' - Minister of Sport Summon NFF on Finidi. NFF Protest National Anthem Mix-up

In response to the Super Eagles’ disappointing performance during the June FIFA window, the Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has called for a detailed technical report from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). The Super Eagles secured only one point from a possible six, drawing 1-1 with South Africa and losing 2-1 to Benin Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series.
Senator Enoh stressed the need for accountability and answers from the NFF, citing immense support from President Tinubu and high expectations from Nigerian football fans.
Additionally, the NFF expressed frustration over the Beninoise Football Federation’s mix-up in playing the old Nigerian national anthem before the match against Benin. Despite this, the Super Eagles now face a challenging path to World Cup qualification.
