Jungling has been such an important part of the game for a long long time, and yet Riot has never added a tutorial for it beyond saying "Hey! Neutral monsters!" if you accidentally walk into the jungle during the laning tutorials. Hell, they don't even give you Smite until level 9.

The thing I hate the most is how unfair his level 16 is. Like he can be 0/5 in lane and have 2 items at level 15, but as soon as he turns 16 the game turns all of the sudden. If you and your team don't manage to close out the game early you almost always lose.
If there's something like a Jax on the other hand, who also scales very well with items, the situation is completely different. He still might be strong, but without reasonably good resources he's not a monster, unlike Kassadin.

David M. If he only has 2 items when lvl 16 then he is so vulnerable to cc that he’s not even useful.
Aimar Trasmonte false tho, kass just by farming isn’t enough, he needs to start roaming when he has his ult and that is how kass win games. If he just farm all game then it’s the enemies team’s fault for not ending it as early as possible. Learn to punish him. You can try out kass yourself. His early game is probably the weakest in league, that’s why he has probably the strongest late game.

Actually, everyone are forgetting Malzahar. Not needed a builded Malz, even a 0/9/0 Malz can open a window for victory with is his R. His suppresion makes enought time to kill any feeded and unbalanced enemy.

Udyr never played? This aged well
As an Udyr main myself, I really do miss when I could play him and I wasn't immediately at a disadvantage.
Problem is Udyr was built around a jungle that allowed farming and sustain to pull a champion ahead of another more focused on ganking, right now you only need to clear golems and raptors before spamming ganks and securing scuttlers/buffs. Feral Flare and Devourer extended his stay but right now his kit having huge problems dealing with modern champion's mobility on top of his playstyle being outdated is just a double combo to make him impossible to win with if youre not far ahead on farm and game sense compared to the enemy team.

You know what i really miss? Solo Baron with Shaco using Madreds Blood Razor back in pre-S1. I quit League early S8. Jax's Passive Dodge and Sunfire Stack on Garen (didn't use him, it was just absolute bullshit playing against it that i miss it).

God, I despise AP Shyvanna with my entire existence. She's way more fun to play with, as, and against as AD on-hit initiator with some tank stats
i honestly hate the whole AP shyvanna thing. i was a bruiser shyvana styled. kinda build her like yi. i go bloodrazor with BoRK, Guinsoos and frozen mallet. i built the attack speed and on-hit. when her E got 100% AP it was like...how is this playing a champ? people popping off calling themselves a god because they can press E. thats not outplay or skill. if you want skill, play it like the good ol season 6 shyvana. not just press 1 button and one shot. thats not skill. thats "i can press a button"

@@DisastrousIntentionally True, but how are you supposed to build any when you're behind? Shyvanna isn't the only one on the enemy side, and your opposing adc would most likely be building ad items and screwing you over in terms of dps.

The year of Sated Devourer may have genuinely been my favorite times playing league. The little wolf follower was so rewarding to me lol. I wish they could have done something like make kills and farming equally effective for stacks and let you benefit from objectives. Maybe require less stacks and nerf the stats on the item would help too. But Riot being Riot just bailed after doing 3 nerfs in a year

@@mafraster98 its because when they released aphelios some rioter i think he made the grave rework said that they where pretty experimented in their work and said that if you would stack the years of experience they had it would reach 200 years of experience of balance and then aphelios was a broken piece of crap and it became a meme of that .
@@theannoyer2953 pretty sure the response actually came from a rioter responding to a Wukong OTP saying that the rework was weak af. The rioter said that the collective 200 years of experience was greater than that of a wukong onetrick. Turns out the Wukong OTP was wrong about the wukong rework, given that it was OP as hell, but the meme stuck, especially because champs like Aphelios, Yuumi, Pyke, rework Akali, etc. who all had stupidly strong mechanics

Harambe (wukong otp) stated his displeasure over wukong's mini rework saying that "he does no damage now" because wukong was always played like an assassin. A group of Rioters said something along the lines of "I'm sorry you feel that way but our balance team disagrees with you. We have a collective 200+ years of game balance/dev experience and we know more than you". From there everyone's memed the whole "200 years" thing
I know the video is about the item, but you missed a couple of things:
- Devourer made Udyr jump from a niche pick to a pick or ban thin;
- This was even more true when they reworked rageblade to have the cleave passive, so true that eventually the champ got nerfed to the ground;
- This is my personal opinion, but I think the devourer passive was reworked to the rageblade because those 2 items were the core build for any auto hitting champion back in preseason 6, early season 6.
Those were the days I most enjoyed League.

yeah me too. I started playing in season 6 and quickly loved udyr and mained him. S6 was the only season that felt like udyr was actually a good jg. I still play him of course and people either assume its a troll pick or youre just going to do bad. In season 10, i sometimes go ap because of my team comp and I immediately get flamed. But later my team realizes how good/decent it is. I just miss season 6 :(
It was this season that I started to main Jax in both top and jungle. As a toplaner, just build rageblade, triforce and gunblade, then 1 armor and mr item to cap things up. As a jungle, build devourer, triforce, gunblade, rageblade and warmogs.

I kind of think it's the opposite. AP Shyv has fewer map options and ways to teamfight. AD can do it all but just isn't as effective at one thing.
AP Shyvana of course more dynamic than AD Shyvana. When you are jungling or top laning with Shyvana your main goal is r e w q all the way. If you don't have your r you just go your camps stack some aa till your ris activates again and wait for another opportunity to r again. While when you play AP Shyvana you have to position better if you don't want to get one shotted, think how to use your r e better and if it's not 35+ game your r doesn't come back easily. You have power farm and jungle. See, you have to consider a lot of elements while going AP Shyv.

Champions didn't die as quickly back then, tank items were better and more effective, and there were no 1000 hp true damage nukes back then

As a Vi Main i feel this every game. I've had one buff in the last several years and they instantly took it away. All they did was make it so that my 10 min cd ult wasn't wasted if interrupted. Nope can't have that, delete. But don't worry we'll add a patch that makes random supports able to go in the jungle instead.
It's crazy how three years later this is still completely valid with the new buffs to Morgana, Brand and Zyra so they can play as junglers

Honestly Udyr right from the off set was designed as one of the most underwhelming stance swap characters to ever be featured in a MOBA and Riot has learned so much about proper stance swap styles over the last 10 years. They literally refuse to budge though because the small collective of people that love Udyr in all of his exceedingly basic game design are so animalistic towards anyone that suggests even slight changes that it makes them impossible to work with. His rework has been stalled for YEARS now because people look at his kit, which is entirely built on toggling on hit effects and nothing else, and say "He's perfect the way he is". The guy with zero interesting gameplay beyond different ways to right click people is "perfect". He isn't allowed to become cool or interesting like Sion, Trundle, Yorick, or Urgot. Nah, "he only needs a visual update". Look at any other MOBA's stance swap equivalents and Udyr just strikes you as a complete joke and frankly he should have been one of the first characters to be reworked but it just keeps getting pushed back and pushed back because of how stubborn his fans are.

Riot generally takes a fun idea they had when they started this game gets neutered to fit a singular role and identity that kinda ruins them.
They are also outrageously fucking busted to the point they continuously HAVE to nerf each and every patch.. Yorrick, Trundle(and even in the modern era, literally getting neutered), UrgoD was actually WAY better before and not as fucked up to play.
Sion was way better before. The diversity of being able to go Full AD glass Canon, AP glass Canon, or Bruiser was way too fun. Now he's just a boring shell of his former self that just builds tank and ints turrets.
He got nerfed and barely buffed. He just kinda exists now.
A lot of their releases are so shit that they're either WAY too strong or not strong enough..
Fiddle looked pretty fucking cool, but feels like he just releases silent farts on you as you laugh his damage off, needed buffs, but now they buffed him too much, and he will be nerfed.
Volibear was DOG SHIT on release, cool design 100%, but the removal of his core identity and gameplay is just..why? And now he got hard buffed but now they overly buffed him, and he will get nerfed back to DOG SHIT.
Udyr mains don't want that bullshit on their champion and just accept that his nerfs to his AP ratios and damage nerfs to Phoenix are just what it is.. But he has hardly been touched. Which is great.

@@Impalingthorn beauty lies in simplicity. Modern champions are literally bloated with hundreds of dashes, blinks and a ton of other weird tools. That type of design makes room for outplay potential, but led to dashes no longer being a unique tool. A champion without a dash and based on basic attacks entirely is "a breath of fresh air" (even if it sounds a bit weird).
Our love for Udyr comes from years and years spent on playing him. It's a type of bond you can't understand if you weren't loyal for one champion, no matter the meta. Us, Udyr players love being a big, tanky guy who runs fast and slaps. Not only his simple gameplay is an entertainment for us, because we don't have to care about some weird ability setups, but also it allows us to focus on macro play rather than micro. Most of us acknowledged that changes are necessary, this is no longer 2010. But Udyr mains' attachment to the champ is not the reason he doesn't receive any changes.
Crucillus Thorn Udyr receives no changes because of his 53% win rate which they think is viable. It’s not when the only people playing him is 1 tricks. Not many other 1 tricks have that low of a win rate. If you go on udyr main Reddit’s there’s plenty of people asking for reworks entirely and have given decent examples but riot refuses to budge. His visual rework would also be the hardest in the game due to the stance switch and his ultimate skin. Riot doesn’t want to bother when they know not very many people play him so he won’t sell skins as much, people will complain if he’s dogshit after the rework, and his “win rate is stable.” He needs a rework way more than fuckin mundo and any other champ. I’ve been playing him since season 4. Idgaf what they do give him a basic rework on his abilities or fully change them and keep the theme. I’m tired of being at a disadvantage when I select him in champ select.

This video put a lot into perspective for me. I was a jungle main back in league's early seasons and left just before feral flair came out. I saw the patch notes where the item was happening, but never actually used it. I spent the entirety of the time between that and season 9 out of the game and this helped me figure out both why the game has evolved into the gank\invade heavy meta and what happened that made riot shut down the old builds and strategies so hard. Thanks for putting all the info in one place. It helped clarify a lot of the changes that I had been seeing.

I think some iteration of this needs to come back though. I feel like the game as a whole has been balanced more for early game champs. (Season 8 and 9, I havent played enough this season to know.) The game is so much more snowball oriented now than it was when I started. I miss being able to say "play for late" without being immediately labelled a troll.
Yeah. Before it was "want 15 min game or less? Play dominion. Summoners Rift takes at least 30 mins, most probably 45+" and now most of games end before 30 min (I look on you elder and baron)

@@sulfur3684 You had the possibility to carry your mates even if they were loosing their lanes. It's kinda harder right now, you are mate dependant, when at that time you could 1v5 games (which was pleasant even if it's toxic for ennemy team).
While you still can play “power farming” junglers, the Meta has been for long time to constantly gank. To one point where they even almost didn’t need to clear camps, and still be same exp with other jungle and gold, therefore the mini exp reworn. And just like afk jg it’s not “fun” to play with, only ganking is not “fun” to play against either. You basically gotta hope your jg it’s the one camping you and not the enemy one, otherwise you don’t get to play for most of early game if at all (top struggle). Oh on that note I rather be on the afk jg Meta, than this only gank Meta, cause atleast if jg afk farming and ganking less you may have a chance to play lanes, while mostly now it’s either play 2vs1 or 1vs2 if top/mid or 3vs2/ 2vs3 in bot. Which is usually worse for top, since most people tend to help/tp to bot not the other way around. But eh I even got games where their jg camp, their mid Roamed and even their bot lane support and once adc, decide to pay a visit, and all of that for 15’min straight not stop.

You videos make me want to go back and play League, but I open the launcher, stare at it for about 5 minutes and just close it. SO many memories, but I just can't bring myself to play it again. That said, thanks for the memories. I loved playing Shyvana, she was always one of my favorites.

I still miss Feral Flare to this day. Yeah, power farming junglers had their golden age but it lasted much shorter than anything else. And to say that AP Shyvana is more dynamic is a bit hyperbolic, given the only thing you do is transform and press E to legit oneshot like a Rengar. Don't know if that is more fun to play.
But i'm totally biased here so whatever, great video nontheless ^^

Can you do a video on the history of runes & masteries? I feel like preseason 8 was the worst thing to happen to LoL and it just made a huge mess of the game. I also feel like we have been slowly getting closer to what runes & masteries used to be since then.

10:55 - 11:02 really showcases how strong the shit was on yi, just like I remember. I think feral flare was the most busted jungle item in the game at the time, made jungling so much fun.
Edit: Also old Phantom Dancer was so fkn good, just stack two of them and u were good, also the ORIGINAL blue build with ezreal and spirit of the elder lizard was fkn great. I really wish they would bring it back
