I think it's because Blitzcrank does the one job that is the most vital to any moba - poor positioning. If you misposition in any moba, you're pretty screwed. Blitzcrank capitalizes on this one root MOBA aspect, and so he will always remain relevant imo. This is why a 10/0 Blitz will serve the same impact as a 0/10 Blitz assuming you're landing your skillshots.
There's other hook Champs in the game that can do this. Blitz is unique in that he punishes micro mistakes and still applies pressure even in a neutral lane state at the start of the game
that's exactly why Blitz was absolutely useless during the time when pro-play was just split-pushing, macro play, never fighting, and ending a 55 minute game with 2-3 kills.
@@fabexgaming2238 not really, because the nautilus hook also puts nautilus in a compromised position. Blitz can hook, then knock-up, then silence, without moving a single pixel and just stay safe. Nautilus has better mobility overall and his ult is a guaranteed point-and-click stun, which is also great, but it comes with a delay, so the other person can react, before it hits. Nautilus is great and overall probably a little better than blitz, but just the pure safety of the hook+cc+silence without moving is incredible. Nautilus can't do that as well as blitz.
As I've seen in many games before, many smurfs can lock in a Blitzcrank and just roll bot lane in just a few minutes, then snowball his team all the way to victory
The best part of it is that even if we on the bot lane can avoid the blitz, our other 3 mates are willing to give him a handshake after he walked by 3 wards.
An extra fact: Zilean achieved his 1st Pentakill on a competitive stage today in the European Masters. Don't remember which teams were playing* but the player is called HawHaw.
I'd argue Orianna is more honest, basically a zero bullshit champ at any stage in the game. No overwhelming strengths, and her ultimate is reliant on good awareness and punishes the lack of it. If she wins an interaction it's either because you played poorly or because she played better, no ifs or buts.
Blitz 1 trick here: The core gameplay that makes up his champion might be really simple, land hook and CC, but the devs have actually done a really good job at keeping him relevant in small ways. Surprised you didn’t mention his hook range buff on top of the damage buff. Really made his hook better against champions with dashes or other mobility options because it can hit them even if they try to dodge it. His ult silence is so good for counter play against champions with good mobility or spell shields because it allows you to set up a hook in the .5 second interval where they can’t cast an ability. Drastically changes matchups post level 6. And this is all without talking about how they made his ult kill shields, makes a Blitz pick insanely good into champs like Lulu, Tahm, Sett, destroys shield bow and stone plate, etc.. he might not have had any drastic changes to his kit since his release, but damn have the devs given him those few crucial buffs to keep him relevant.
mmm yes screw over dashless champs by making skillshots faster so they can only dodge by flashing just to (maybe) hit dash champs more often instead of removing one of 12 dashes from new champs.
Sylas really is the counter to a lot of these old-but relevant champions. TF, Malphite, Zilean, Tryndamere all get their core ability copied by Sylas. And he has e cc along with everfrost as well!
It’s crazy how a once upon a time self proclaimed riven one trick. Has become one of the best researched, most informative and overall enjoyable league content creators in the games history. You always slay man. Keep it up. And thanks for the content
That's what I've been saying this past season. In the old days, a Morgana Q would lock you for 3 seconds. But a regular teamfight would last for 20+ seconds, and time to kill was pretty long, so it wouldn't be game breaking - just annoying. Nowadays, a teamfight lasts for 5 seconds. If a Lux binds you, you're dead. An Irelia hits her E on you, you're dead. Even a Qiyana ice Q, which is a 0.25 second stun, can be the difference between life and death, so extremely CC-heavy champions are THRIVING with all the damage and oneshotting in the game. We need more tenacity options and less damage in the game. But Riot recently gutted lifesteal, killing sustain, and lowering time-to-kill even further. Lol
The problem isnt damage itself, its peopel hating to play tanks, the only tanks who are seeing playing are shen, the most reliable tank, and ornn, the most broken tank who can give himself and allies thousands of gold in stats parried with stupid cc and unexpected burst
Lifesteal needed to be nerfed into the ground. It killed certain champions that relied on slow steady poke damage with how proliferate it was. Nerfing it made some of them that were borderline valuable again. Arguably it's still too high. League has a lot of problems on a meta level. Itemization has front loaded damage spiraling out of control which leaves some champions out in the cold. The proliferation of dash type abilities and items break the movement speed soft cap balance system allowing champions that are supposed to be balanced by being slow to straight up outrun champions that are supposed to be fast. And keep in mind with that one, movement speed is the single most OP stat in the game, it's always useful in all situations. So it being so out of whack messes with the entire game at it's most basic level. Everything has slowly power creeped out of control. By itself a change to lifesteal may seem bad, but if they follow it up with more global nerfs.. hopefully... they can start to bring things back under control. Hopefully. Please hopefully.
@@alekss223 dude, most tanks cant tank nowadays. there are so many anti-tank options that being "tanky" still gets you shredded in seconds. be best tanks tanks arent ons that can deal cc and be durable, their the ones that can deal a lot of damage and either be durable or deal cc. heck, lethality poppy is still a thing and its still better than it has any right to be. AP Nunu and AP malphite wreck ARAM. heck ornn is a tank that deals a rather high amount of %hp magic damage, as well as the item upgrade buffs he gives his team. and its not like sustain is going to help the situation since it was highly abused by everyone and got nerfed. Riot honestly need to do some form of Damage type rework, because there is too much % and hybrid damage going around, to the point where the best tanks are the ones that deal absurd amounts of damage.
@@JDReC100 thats what i was saying, the only tanks who can actually face tank (obv if no vayne/fiora/camille) are cho, sion and ornn cause their passive give them stupid amounts of stats
kind of surprised you didnt bring up corki for the old champs that have been super effective recently. hes just as old as the others and while he only popped off recently, he was secret op since the item rework (i used a tank build that would still do the most damage and one shot people with package last season). Either way great video as always, its always good to get some league game design perspectives and history talked about.
I always ban blitzcrank in all my games. Him in my game makes me play like so safely and restrictively. Haven't fully watched the video yet but i guess the rise of enchanters made blitz a prio ban. He also has the strongest hook among all champs; I can survive a thresh hook, nautilus hook, a pyke hook but never a blitz hook
underrated post. it's the same reason why i ban zed when i play mid, literally no other champion in the entire game can restrict my options like he can. is he overpowered? no not really, but if he's the only champion that can close some of the most consistent doors for me to translate a lead into a win, why even bother dealing with it in the first place? Blitz is kind of the same deal, i dont generally ban him because i find naut ulti far more restrictive, but any champ that can straight up remove your ability to play based off their existence and threat are ban worthy even if you can play against them just fine.
@@CoffeeKitty. Big issue with Zed and LeBlanc as well is that they have no bad lanes, despite the champs having weak base values(Zed at least). Its impossible to miss CS on these champs in most matchups, in the sense that you as their opponent can't stop them from scaling, likewise it is near impossible to kill them unless they missplay. They get to poke you for free like no other assassins can, Talon, Fizz, Ekko, Katarina and even Exodia(Qiyana) all have windows where they are open to taking damage when they try to deal damage. LeBlanc adds another layer to this because she has probably the best gank setup of all midlaners because she can gapclose and cc you. I feel like I never lose 1v1 to a LeBlanc early, but after recieving 3-4 ganks in the earlygame(while my jungler wouldn't even look mid because who wastes time ganking LB?), and me either dying, blowing my flash or being forced to not to play the lane for a while, then LeBlanc has her Sorc Shoes, Dark Seal and Lost Chapter before I get a relevant spike and the lane is just over for me. I do feel like Zed has been overnerfed to the point where this champ isn't really a problem anymore, at least I can personally feel the nerfs when I play him and against him, compared to Talon and Qiyana, Zed is just much less powerfull. If you have probems with Zed(more popular champ in common elo), wait till you get to a rank where people start figuring out how good LB is, you will never let this champ see the rift again.
when i saw Zeri's kit, i was like "hmm her ult movement speed having no cap might be dumb, they should put a 70% cap on it. her lethal tempo q range is a bit too long, and her massive 20% max health magic damage chunk might make it too difficult to build against her, but i don't think she is too game breaking. Zeri just needs some numbers tweaks." and now we are on to numbers tweak 4287...
The story of the blitz hero resonated. I SUCK at supp, genuinely my playstyle of 1v1ing (I'm a top/JG main) makes me go against any supp strats. I genuinely suck at support, like absolute trash. I was auto filled, and told my team this. They didn't care, told me to play blitz. First 30 minutes, ADC/SUPP went 0/4 and 0/8 because of me not knowing supp. Was getting flamed, and we almost surrendered. I landed 1, not even hyperbole to say it was one of my only hooks in the entire game, on the fed enemy ADC while they were doing baron. We stole baron, steamrolled with the bounties and won the game in a couple of minutes after that. I got 3 honors that game for pretty much feeding and inting the entire game but landing 1 good hook. It was insane
10:14 man i miss matt making league vids, i understand why he stopped but I swear it held a special place in my heart when I was just starting out league, and still now.
Can’t stop the ol beep boop crank machine. A blitz in the bot lane is a menace, able to turn matches around with one ability. I still remember him from when I first started playing and he’s still the same funny robot.
Simple answer would be that blitz has 1 job to focus and master. While akshan needs to play like an adc jungler midlaner and really his kit is a toolbox with diffrent tools insted of beying full set of tools built around doing 1 job. (landing hook for blitz)
There were 5 things in Akshan's kit I didn't know about: 1. Avengerang gives vision. 2. Avengerang grants him movement speed when he hits an enemy champion with it. 3. Akshan can see trails towards "Scoundrels" when he's using Going Rogue. 4. Comeuppance applies lifesteal at 100% effectiveness. 5. Comeuppance bullets execute minions.
Akshan main: do not rely on avengerang vision, it works sometimes, like in bushes, but in stealth, it is a coinflip. I sometimes us it vs akali, i get the movement speed and she stays invis lol
@@sloesty that is because akalis invisibility is not detectable unless you have true sight (like towers). it is not like the camouflage of twitch or rengar.
Managed to hit top 10 blitz oce in 2020. He was my boi when I first started playing in season 7 and has always been my "I'm not here to mess around" pick 😂 Out of my entire career playing league, blitz ult getting shield removal was the most hyped moment. Made versing enchanters, tahm kench and sett so much easier 👍
I was talking to some folks on Reddit about lissandra. I haven’t seen her picked or banned in literally any of my ranked games this season, and I’ve wondered if that’s because her rather simple kit gives her two options- all in or run far away, and in the high damage meta you mentioned neither are that efficient for some mages like her.
Actually she is really good. Take Aftershock/Glacial and you can then dominate game with no problem. Even if you feed like crazy you can still lockdown somebody easily.
Blitz is strong because of how anti-meta he is. We're on a hardcore enchanter meta and Blitz is the most direct counter to them, not just because enchanters are especially punished by his hook, but because Blitz pop shields instantly. TF isn't outdated, his passive and his E might be, but he stood the test of time. Same for Malphite. He is simple, but he works. I agree on Tryndamere though. As you have stated, %health damage, penetration, true damage. All are higher than ever and that makes dedicated tanks worthless. But against squishies, that's no better or maybe worse than just having high base damage/ratios. In addition: those types of damage do nothing about healing and shielding. You know what are the best sources of these out there? Goredrinker, Sterak's Gage, Immortal Shieldbow and Divine Sunderer. The only item in the game that gives %damage reduction isn't a tank item. That means goredrinker/death's dance/sterak's gage will probably make you tankier than sunfire/randuin's/thornmail. But going to the point: league has a damage problem. But it is not a burst damage, instead, its a tank shredding damage problem. An assassin basically has to basically kill his target twice through all the healing and shielding acessible for squishy champions, but now that Eclipse is a thing, they can kill tanks almost easier than the champions they were designed to kill. Not too long ago all assassins were going conqueror+goredrinker. Mages were dead in season 11 because even the squishiest AD carry can easily become a mini-bruiser. In season 12 they came back not only because crown became a thing, but because HP has been distributed to pretty much half all AP itens. Even Shadowflame, which is the closest we have from a snowballing AP second item gives HP instead of haste.
The damage problem is about who does what amount of damage, supports fuck over adcs in the earlygame because of how much damage they do. Something that should be left to junglers. But they gave supports high damage to solve queue time issues when supports were supporting champions instead of early game carries
@@jole5468 You see, mindsets like that are the reason "support" should probably be renamed to something else, because they're not meant to be babysitters. They are champions who can function on a low income. Champions who are well known for being weak early game to lose early game fights should not be a surprise. "Supports" don't have high damage, but when the opposition has low survivability, it'll sting. As it should be.
I swear you planted something on me, because i always think about how you haven't uploaded in a bit, and then the next day you post a video. 4x in a row now...
Exil, I love your videos, and they have even changed the way I approach competitive league. You are absolutely my favorite league content creator, not to bash the other guys, just to tell you how great you are :-)
Akshan has surprising stuff in his kit like: ult executes minions. Increased mana regen when moving towards scoundrel. And most suprisingly his stealth has about a 5 sec cooldown at level 18.
Akshans kit might be overloaded. But there are a lot of more broken older champs but no one cares cause they arent new. If karthus got released today he would be considered broken cause his ult hits everyone
Karthus ultimate has long cooldown and channel time is already a huge setback. Overloaded kit is fine as long as people know how to counter them, like Jhin. His imnate is complicated but most of the time people only need to know his 4th shot hurts as fuck and he has to reload after that
@@cloudynguyen6527 Im not trying to say karthus ult is broken, only that it would be percieved to be broken if it was new. Yeah that is true, but theres still plenty of old champs that have no counter play except out stat them or CC them.
It feels good knowing multiple old mains of mine are getting played again. Won't make me pick up the game again, but still, nice to see old champs can still find a place among the new ones.
It’s funny right, because new champs are super strong but some champs, ESPECIALLY champs with 1 job and 1 job only, can still be extremely strong because they do 1 thing very well. Garen isnt super strong but if he catches you with a Q, good luck getting away from the rest of his murdering combo. Blitz grabs you? Get ready to burn your flash (unless you are ezreal or a blinker) cuse you wont get the chance after the E and quickly followed up ult afterwards. Skarner manages to catch you? Pray to the love of god you are a champ that can get QSS. TLDR: new champs ARE overloaded and strong but old champs doing 1 job very well are still strong in their own right. Also love the video Exil! You always find the most interesting topics!
The problem is that for old champs with simple kits to be as good as new champs with overloaded kits, those old champs need to be a ball of stats. That’s not healthy for the game either.
One thing about blitz being forgiving is that Blitzcrank’s hook is the most forgiving hooking ability in the game. It doesn’t pull you towards the enemy like Leona or to the mid point like Nautilus. It has low startup frames and good travel speed as well
That's the same reason I love Lissandra so much. AoE Root, and Point-and-click Stun/Selfheal+Zhonyias if you go deep and root 4 people. She's slow, but a E+Flash wins you a teamfight lategame 7 out of 10 times
the value of a grab in any kill lane like if you pick thresh, nautilus, Pyke or blitzcrank is astronomical. the problem with a lot of these older outdated champs is they either have not enough mobility or not enough cc to do anything meaningful. they are also stat sticks. blitz crank has plenty of cc.
another huge reason for the meta-change is again... money. but very differently than you might expect. back in the early days of competetive League, there was a lot more teamfighting and it was more focused around the skill of individual players. This caused games to be explosive and interesting and volatile with many possible upset victories. Then competetive became more like "traditional" pro-sports, where a lot of money was put into trainers and coming up with strategies until it got the point where games would be almost exlusively about macro-plays and many games would end with 3 or 4 kills. This wasn't fun to watch, pro-Leagues got less views and sponsors weren't willing to put as much money into big tournaments. That's why Riot "re-balanced" the game to be more about things like Baron, Dragon-Souls, Elder-dragon, etc. Now we are basically guaranteed to have at least 3 big teamfights per game, where player-skill, positioning, focus was again more important. We got back the flashy plays. the 1v5s, the penta-kills and the viewers came back, bringing with them the sponsor-money. Champions like Blitzcrank, Tryndamere, Zilean, Malphite are just so damn good at positioning either yourself or the opponent in an advantageous manner to win these teamfights. A blitz-hook, even if it doesn't get the kill, can force the enemy to retreat. a Tryndamere can survive a 4 second stun with his ult, spin to the ADC and still get the kill. A malphite ult in the dragon pit just straight up wins the teamfight. These very basic champions were made during a time when the game only had Lane - Teamfight - End and so they excel in this meta. When a pro-team finds a comp that can reliably win without focusing on Dragons or Baron, just by split-pushing, dragging the enemy over the map, but never fighting, these champions will fall out of the meta again, and competetive League will once again be absolutely boring to watch.
I belive that bringing up high elo onetricks is not pracrical in analaysis of champions because we have long known that it is possible to climb to challanger with high winrate with any champion. Also loking at a single player is anecdotal evidence. On a happier note this is quite a great video you have made and I enjoyed it.
0:46 Firefox has a built in tool where you can Rick click a webpage and take a custom screenshot where you can scroll down the page without canceling the tool.
The main problem with Blitzcrank and others that have mega stupid high impact basic abilities (looking at Gangplank) is that you can miss it 10 times. But you land it ONCE and it can be huge. And mana costs are much less of an issue because everything has mana on it these days and lots of it.
I don't remember the patch but one day Blitz ultimate was buffed in order to DESTROY shields so his winrate skyrocketed. Nowdays i use that pick if you see an enemy Sett or TK cause you will ruin their day (it counters shieldbow too).
Blitz is such a good tilter champion, I never bothered with ranked but in smaller tournaments with best of 3 series, you really see its effect, land 1 good hook on the adc mid game and they are potentially tilted for the rest of the series (plus a blitz perma ban instead of your junglers rengar, who proceeds to make their adc forfeit game 3)
They buffed blitzkrang q by 20%ap and 20 base dmg. You don't get too much ap, but always something from zombie ward, maybe adaptive and shourelia (if builded).
If we look at it overall, Blitz is better because items on his teammates are better. 13 year old champs, which were never seen in pro play are viable just because new items. Any 10 year old tank jungler could solo baron at 20 just because of new sunfire. Do you remember what Riot does about their overpowered items? For example chemtank Udyr? They nerf the champion instead of looking at the item being too strong for 20 plus champs.
Hi, I love your videos and your hard work, especially the champion history ones. Is there another one coming soon? I feel like some champions with a rich history like Vayne, Rengar, Ryze, Jax, Vladimir... could deserve one. Vayne is most likely the most important and popular champion that doesn't have a history video yet, having so many iconic players and montages, being famous for being the ultimate 1v1 champion. Her kit didn't change much over the years, but her strength always fluctuated depending on the current items and meta. Bloodrazor, Guinsoo, BotRK... She went from being a tank-killing late game hypercarry, to being more evenly strong at every stage of the game. Also, how over the years, with the release of overloaded champions, her dueling capabilities fell significantly. Would be interesting to go through her eleven years of existence.
Thank you for going over trynd. Im so tired of people calling for nerfs for him, when the champ hasnt changed just that the items he uses are so freaking broken that hes strong. Like if galeforce as an item didnt exist I dont think trynd would be half as strong in competitive solo q.
its not that the items are broken it is just that he uses them better than any adc adc use his mythics galeforce or kraken slayer very differently. Galeforce is used as a dash to facilitate kiting or to execute a lowhealth retreating enemy, tryndamere uses it to engage to escape to fight etc. while kraken slayer is built to coutner tanks as an adc, tryndamere uses it to melt tanks and establish dominance over a sidelane.
Older champions has been in game for years so we had the time finally optimize them compared to new champs where you would need practice day in day out to play them or like with aphelios case, you almost needed degree to finally understand his passive and skills and how they work
read akshan kit and knew everything (not akshan main), but did heavily look on him and try him out on release. Although will probably forget some of these things in a few moths
Blitzcrank, Zilean, Gragas, Corki, Kennen and Alistar need mostly a Morgana like rework. The abilities stay to 90% the same and get only some or no adjustments.
Im not surprised that people finally caught on to tryndamere, what im more surprised about is that no one in proplay has still caught on to kayle and taric being kinda op. All of these death defying champs will always be good pretty much no matter what the meta is.
Same thing about ahri's charm. 99% of people don't even realise charm makes the enemy walk TOWARDS you, and given how teams stay ''just outside of X skillshot range'' - one lategarm charm flash (yes, charm then flash) = guaranteed win.
I still play mao jungle since s2 until diamond rating. The good part: most enemy think i go for Support or top. The Bad part: most of my team dont even know how jubgle mao worked and blame if they lose lane because everone these days Player assasine juler wich ganz constantly
I haven't played league in at least 8 years, but I still enjoy your videos. The writing and production value are incredibly high quality. Just fantastic work all around.
seriously, no other hook ability can screw people up as much as blitz Q, ok CD, good range, instant cast, and most importantly pull can pull enemy through terrain. Only 1 other hook ability can do that and that is Pyke's Q, and even that the enemy need to be standing close to the wall.
I didnt really notice that renata is overloaded. I mean her w is only 'problematic' ability, even still it is situational. I think she is a decent addition to the game and capitalises on a concept of friendly fire that is quite interesting.
This is why I play Poppy and Sett on top, even having a terrible laning phase I can still bring utility on a teamfight and save the MVPs. Unlike Darius or Tryndamere who obsess over kills but become useless to their team if they ever meet them.
When I saw the title I thought it's gonna be about Trynda... Regarding the ban rate, Akshan is not as easy to pick up and be good at than Blitz. I usually ban him top lane, but most people don't play him so it's difficult to say whether it's axtaully worth banning him.
Another thing to do with Tryndamere is, he does nothing but benefit from damage creep. With his ultimate and damage creep, he keeps doing more damage while still, not dying. You can hit him for AS MUCH DAMAGE as you want, he will not die for like 8 seconds.
I’m gold on the LAN server, about 2 months ago I was playing with my friends and I accidentally picked mid Zilean, I ended up realizing how busted is this champion after I finished everfrost and how easy you Can land your double bomb after slow+everfrost, we had a vayne on my team that had the easiest time running away from an enemy Nasus since I was a walking slow, stunt and GA machine.
I love the Runescape soundtracks in these videos! Might I ask though how you use them without any copyright issues, and if they don't have any, where it is you download them to include them in videos?
Typically game music is able to be used royalty free. Not to say that I can own it and make money from simply reposting it, but using in a youtube video is usually fine because well... if you think about it - if in-game music WASN'T royalty free every youtube video or stream would be taken down simply by listening to the game's soundtrack. That being said, something like sports games, Madden or FIFA or whatever, they obviously license out to popular music so you can't use those. But nintendo, runescape, world of warcraft halo, those OSTs are usually okay to use (most of the time)
@@Exil22 Alright! Thank you for the info! If I may be so tedious as to ask, could you tell me where it is you go about downloading the RS tracks etc to use them? I'm not the most tech-savvy person and I rarely trust anything when it comes to downloads that isn't TH-cam's audio library
Regarding the issue of power creep, if a champ is perceived as underpowered at launch, that characterization can linger long after it becomes balanced. We've seen that before as well. I would imagine players are less likely to play a champ that has that stigma attached to it. Also, looking at the professional meta, you have things like Tryndamere, Lee Sin, Ahri, Jinx, etc all with very high pick rates. While the solo and pro metas are very different, you can probably head over to Twitch right now and find a pro playing Ryze in soloqueue with a positive winrate at the very top of the ranked ladder. Power creep is sort of an inevitability in a game like League, but I feel it gets greatly exaggerated. That's not even considering the fact that in any rank below probably Master tier, gaps in champion power are always going to be much smaller than what you could gain by simply improving at the game, so this is doesn't heavily affect 99% of the player base. Champion balance just isnt something you should be worrying about in low elo.
It's funny that you said Blitz was now very strong because damage is way stronger now but that Trynd isn't better now become he literally has a "no I don't think I'll die right now" button, I expected that to be at least part of it, considering he basically cannot be one-shot which is not super common in the game.
So while agree for the rest, because so much of Malphites power budget is in his ultimate the existence of sylas holds him back incredibly hard as a blind pick at the very least so he's not quite that much of a free pick if u fall behind against a sylas top counter pick because he actually DOES have your Ultimate
As an enchanted main, I never let blitz get through draft. Even if I dodge his hook, I can’t rely on my bot laner to. Nothing I can do about it because he takes them away from my safety.
I'd really be interested in a video about heimerdinger his situation seems strange, he has insane matches vs so many characters and a rather high solo que win rate, but sees 0 competitive play.
Two of my friends have been playing league for about two years now and started calling Blitzcranks hook a full health execute. It bothers me how accurate that is
if you want an example of a newer champ that isn't popular rell is one also a lot of newbies have trouble with blitzkrank or bad adcs he's easy to deal with just hook: the champion

Stuff like Playful/Trickster, Distortion, Sleepy Trouble Bubble, Event Horizon, Rocket Grab, or You and Me. The best part of it is that even if we on the bot lane can avoid the blitz, our other 3 mates are willing to give him a handshake after he walked by 3 wards.
An extra fact:
Zilean achieved his 1st Pentakill on a competitive stage today in the European Masters.
Don't remember which teams were playing* but the player is called HawHaw.
What? How? I've stolen a lot of kills with his mere autoattacks but most i ever got is a triple kill.

IMO, Blitzcrank is the most honest champ in the game. One ability, the rest depend on it. Hit a hook, you win, so just be better than the enemy.
He is a true one trick pony champion. He only has 1 trick, but it's pretty freaking good.
@@Exil22A bit too good imo
Actually, I think that his e and the fact that his ulti has such a short cd and destroys shields are way more useful than just landing a q
I'd argue Orianna is more honest, basically a zero bullshit champ at any stage in the game. No overwhelming strengths, and her ultimate is reliant on good awareness and punishes the lack of it. If she wins an interaction it's either because you played poorly or because she played better, no ifs or buts.
meethepie i hate orianna, her range is crazy and her powerspike is so early. Such an annoying champ to lane against lmao
Blitz 1 trick here:
The core gameplay that makes up his champion might be really simple, land hook and CC, but the devs have actually done a really good job at keeping him relevant in small ways.
Exil:" But none of those bruisers have your ultimate."
Sylas:" Hold my chains"
Good one🤣
Sylas really is the counter to a lot of these old-but relevant champions. TF, Malphite, Zilean, Tryndamere all get their core ability copied by Sylas. And he has e cc along with everfrost as well!
@@Amaling And to the newer ones as well. Sylas is a better Pyke and a better Neeko for example.
Basically if a champ has a large part of their power budget in their ult yes sylas will be good

You always slay man. Keep it up. And thanks for the content
TL:DR damage is so high and everything is so overtuned that if he hooks you 1 time at 25 min you instantly die and lose the game.
Honestly, you nailed it
That's what I've been saying this past season.
Lol
The problem isnt damage itself, its peopel hating to play tanks, the only tanks who are seeing playing are shen, the most reliable tank, and ornn, the most broken tank who can give himself and allies thousands of gold in stats parried with stupid cc and unexpected burst
i strongly believe all the problems in league stem from overloaded game design, litteraly every one
Package was a massive change, that completely distorts Corki's ability to play the game. Essentially acting as a mini rework.

His hook is definitely the strongest
underrated post. it's the same reason why i ban zed when i play mid, literally no other champion in the entire game can restrict my options like he can. is he overpowered? no not really, but if he's the only champion that can close some of the most consistent doors for me to translate a lead into a win, why even bother dealing with it in the first place? Blitz is kind of the same deal, i dont generally ban him because i find naut ulti far more restrictive, but any champ that can straight up remove your ability to play based off their existence and threat are ban worthy even if you can play against them just fine.
I like using Blitz when im against support mages 👍🤣
@@Dingdong2730 malz is pretty bad for zed
when i saw Zeri's kit, i was like "hmm her ult movement speed having no cap might be dumb, they should put a 70% cap on it. her lethal tempo q range is a bit too long, and her massive 20% max health magic damage chunk might make it too difficult to build against her, but i don't think she is too game breaking. Zeri just needs some numbers tweaks."
and now we are on to numbers tweak 4287...
Oh we weren't ready for Zeri. She has officially reached a higher density of changes per patch than Aphelios, and it's STILL GOING ON !
It was insane
you forgot to mention in this video that picking blitzcrank into yuumi is a personal attack ff
it really is though
10:14 man i miss matt making league vids, i understand why he stopped but I swear it held a special place in my heart when I was just starting out league, and still now.

Can’t stop the ol beep boop crank machine. A blitz in the bot lane is a menace, able to turn matches around with one ability. I still remember him from when I first started playing and he’s still the same funny robot.
It’s all fun and games until a blitz + draven bot lane steam rolls you in 15 minutes
Simple answer would be that blitz has 1 job to focus and master. While akshan needs to play like an adc jungler midlaner and really his kit is a toolbox with diffrent tools insted of beying full set of tools built around doing 1 job. (landing hook for blitz)
There were 5 things in Akshan's kit I didn't know about:
He was my boi when I first started playing in season 7 and has always been my "I'm not here to mess around" pick 😂
Out of my entire career playing league, blitz ult getting shield removal was the most hyped moment.
She is used at the pro level as a leblanc counter pick. She actually is seen at top tier play
@@Exil22 seen in 0.001% of play lol

Blitz is my favorite support by far. I’ve played him a ton
Akshan has surprising stuff in his kit like: ult executes minions. Increased mana regen when moving towards scoundrel. And most suprisingly his stealth has about a 5 sec cooldown at level 18.
We forgot about corki finally popping off with my artillery build
Blitz model is the best thing about him >:( He's a robot, he's supposed to be clunky, angular and awkward. That's why we love him!
It feels good knowing multiple old mains of mine are getting played again. Won't make me pick up the game again, but still, nice to see old champs can still find a place among the new ones.

man i love exil's videos they always just come at the exact right time
Surprised you didn't mention the hook range buff he got, it was arguably the buff that made Blitz good
Finding that blitzcrank actually rhis season have items that match really good with him has been a very lovely surprisr for me a old Main Blitzcrank.
@@Aliens1337 jep, unless you are a support(ive) character.
Full AP Malphite with the old ult scaling was so strong and so much fun, i miss it so much
Here i was so damn sure this would be a Tryndamere doc :D I love how you point out he went completely unplayed for quite literally 6 years.
One thing about blitz being forgiving is that Blitzcrank’s hook is the most forgiving hooking ability in the game. It doesn’t pull you towards the enemy like Leona or to the mid point like Nautilus. It has low startup frames and good travel speed as well
2:54 Uh Riot said the opposite. They said champion releases are going to be slowing down.
Video begins at 1:38
I belive that bringing up high elo onetricks is not pracrical in analaysis of champions because we have long known that it is possible to climb to challanger with high winrate with any champion. Also loking at a single player is anecdotal evidence. On a happier note this is quite a great video you have made and I enjoyed it.
0:46 Firefox has a built in tool where you can Rick click a webpage and take a custom screenshot where you can scroll down the page without canceling the tool.
Man this video reminded me of the period of time when LCS top lanes were always ornn vs sylas for the ult
The main problem with Blitzcrank and others that have mega stupid high impact basic abilities (looking at Gangplank) is that you can miss it 10 times. But you land it ONCE and it can be huge.
And mana costs are much less of an issue because everything has mana on it these days and lots of it.
I think a better concept for "old" = outdated = OP kit is Nasus His E shredding 45% Armor and a 94% Slow
Anyone else tired of int sion and think riot needs to remove hull breaker
Hard agree brother
Hearing that MagikarpUsedFly at 10:12 threw me for a loop. Haven't heard him talk about league in so long
Imagine if Blitzcrank had a pudge hook range.
Blitzcrank, Zilean, Gragas, Corki, Kennen and Alistar need mostly a Morgana like rework. The abilities stay to 90% the same and get only some or no adjustments.
Yes, finally. New content. ❤️
wooo
Im not surprised that people finally caught on to tryndamere, what im more surprised about is that no one in proplay has still caught on to kayle and taric being kinda op. All of these death defying champs will always be good pretty much no matter what the meta is.
Same thing about ahri's charm. 99% of people don't even realise charm makes the enemy walk TOWARDS you, and given how teams stay ''just outside of X skillshot range'' - one lategarm charm flash (yes, charm then flash) = guaranteed win.
IDK If AP Shyv is OP but I've found a lot of success with that niche pick and pretty much 1 shotting the enemy ADC/Mid Laner.

I’ve been saying more cc = more gg the whole season and now I have a whole video essay to back it up! (Thanks Exil)
Hook type ability will never be bad, especially the one as powerful as blitz, the oldest, simplest, yet the strongest.
seriously, no other hook ability can screw people up as much as blitz Q, ok CD, good range, instant cast, and most importantly pull can pull enemy through terrain.

When I saw the title I thought it's gonna be about Trynda...
Regarding the ban rate, Akshan is not as easy to pick up and be good at than Blitz. I usually ban him top lane, but most people don't play him so it's difficult to say whether it's axtaully worth banning him.
Akshan is not worth banning, just dodge.

I agree the sylas counter is tough
Gran gameplay de Kulerios papá 💜 4:15
As an enchanted main, I never let blitz get through draft. Even if I dodge his hook, I can’t rely on my bot laner to. Nothing I can do about it because he takes them away from my safety.
I'd really be interested in a video about heimerdinger his situation seems strange, he has insane matches vs so many characters and a rather high solo que win rate, but sees 0 competitive play.
As a Twisted Fate and Zilean main, i'm happy to hear this.
it was really funny when they increased hook range by 100 in season 9
im still not used to it because of how absurd that shit is
Dude i remember when vel koz was considered op...
Akshan = ADC which means blow him up when he can’t e or cancel E and it’s just an EZ kill
11:04 never truer words have been spoken and hurt me in such a way.
Two of my friends have been playing league for about two years now and started calling Blitzcranks hook a full health execute. It bothers me how accurate that is
20:28 How does a Malphite lose to Fiora? His entire kit was made to counter her
Man i want to play a malphite, blitzcrank kalista team so bad now
You always make the best documentaries. Please never leave your vids keep my love for this game going
I'd kill to have a video about singed. He's outdated but in no way bad. At least, imo.
if you want an example of a newer champ that isn't popular rell is one also a lot of newbies have trouble with blitzkrank or bad adcs he's easy to deal with just hook: the champion
Yo Exil, ever consider a video of the most powerful abilities in the game? Not the ones that do the most damage, I mean the most powerful by design. Stuff like Playful/Trickster, Distortion, Sleepy Trouble Bubble, Event Horizon, Rocket Grab, or You and Me. A look at how moves like these were implemented and received over the years could be fun, and add some neat discussion points to the conversations around busted new champions.
