The refereeing in England has been an absolute joke. This cheap PR is useless.
You can tell Howard's had his Diversity/equity programing.
The best referees need promoting based on merit alone
About as useless as this comment then
Now there bring more women in 😂 WOW
Overall it hasn’t, mistakes yes, interpretations that don’t suit players, teams and fans, yes….but overall still an elite set of officials where the focus is unfairly balanced to hang them at the drop of a hat……e.g last week Oliver gave an incorrect throw to Man U as his Lino was the other side and he’s an understandable distance away, so happens to give what he thought he saw (wouldn’t guess of course)…uproar…Hooper brought back an advantage for Man City he was playing as he felt it hadn’t paid off…uproar….Trippier misses a penalty in the week to take his side out…(so an error ultimately) poor Kieran….it’s just too easy to criticise
Fair play for asking better questions than Michael Owen ever will at the end. Allowing refs to use replays in VAR has highlighted how low the standard of refs really are and their head not accepting this is a huge problem
A chat from Howard leaves me with that same frustrated empty feeling asking a politician groomed in question evasion. Who then answers the question they want to answer Lots of buzz words. Like having a mosquito in your brain.
nice pr stunt lads you ain't fooling us
Human beings make mistakes. Owners, Managers, Players, Pundits all make mistakes. So do match officials, occasionally. At least with VAR there is a chance of reversing wrong decisions. Without VAR we are back with Sky Sports, TNT, MOTD etc pundits analysing slow motion replays and many so called "experts" pontificating on the contentious decision. Without proving anything, or being able to rectify any mistakes that are highlighted, or having any accountability, or responsibility should their opinion be wrong. Arguments about decisions will be present after matches whether or not the VAR process is in play.
Token gesture or not, they can’t be any worse than current refs. Hopefully…
Spend enough time watching some other leagues around the world and it can definitely be worse. There’s a lot of scrutiny within England on the English refs and VAR, but they really aren’t behind anywhere else.
Still plenty of stuff to improve and really obvious decisions need to not get messed up though.
The PL has more money & a higher profile than any league in the world, it shouldn't be a question of them being behind other countries, they should be setting the gold standard. They are not.
Welsh is actually known for making terrible decisions in WSL. Most recent being not sending lauren james off vs arsenal.
@@HessenUK I think when they're making clear and obvious mistakes weekly it's not really acceptable. At this point it's only 1 every 2 weeks which is an improvement over earlier in the season where nearly every game had a clear and obvious error to anyone with a brain but I'm not really going to give them any credit for ruining games less than they did previously.
From someone who watches league 1, Welch is not great & Sam Allison appears drunk half the time.
After Gary Neville's statements after the Newcastle-Arsenal match he pretty much proved that he wasn't interested in more competence and justice when it comes to refereeing. He should be the last person involved in this interview.
Him, Owen & Carragher are all paid to toe the party line, don't challenge the almighty FA or PGMOL. It's all PR & box ticking, they're an old boys club & nothing will change with Webb in charge.
What were his comments? I saw after the Liverpool disallowed goal he said people should stop critisizing referees and VAR because "They said sorry" so I don't think anything he says can surprise me at this point.
There's been more discussions about refs since VAR was introduced than before, yet VAR was meant to improve things so we didn't have to have all these post match discussions about ref mistakes. All VAR has done is shown that these officials are even worse than we thought Pre-VAR.
Dave Jones doesn't get enough credit for his talent as a presenter. Easy to miss when surrounded by bombastic pundits but he is such a good anchor and it is nice to see his journalistic side in this interview
This is not an interview with a (former) referee, this is an interview with a politician. Also shameless of Sky to not ask more probing questions and only highlight incidents that have been covered and extensively and puts the referees in a good light. Inclusion part is nice though.
Dave Jones is a puppet for Sky. That robot would never ask a probing question, just things they agreed on before so Webb could prepare his answers.
Seeing far too much of this Webb character. Loves the sound of his own voice.
@@didntwantahandleyeah comments like this show he can't win. I'm glad we're hearing from him
Couldn't sit and talk to someone who stares at me like dave is doing 😂
Supporter & TV should be able to hear the live process as to how the on field & VAR decisions are made, there would be no need for the Ref watch programmes at all then
yes thats what we need
Interesting, they seem to have deleted someone’s comment of a tldr
Can confirm they’ve hidden my comment from everyone except myself
@@ThePyroRob the pgmol is a dictatorship and sky is its state run media
They deleted my comment too
The key solution is quite simple.
Open. Honest. Clear. Conversation.
What does everyone want? - The correct decisions to be made ☑️
Things to make significant change :
Clear audio for media spectators, of VAR conversations. And they should be that - a conversation. ‘Ohh that didn’t look good, Can you have a check on that tackle, I’ve given the foul… but I’m concerned about the danger, I may need a review. While I set them up for the free kick can you be checking to let me know if this is something I should have a second look at’
That allows time for things to settle, and then over the earpiece a clear report of, ‘its not a good tackle I’m concerned it may have breached the threshold, please consult the monitor’ can be easily made.
The process can be streamlined through this constant conversation. Where information is being shared throughout the game from the VAR & onfield referee.
Much more similar to how rugby is used & cricket.
This being accessible to the public on broadcast would also be good, but done through the commentators/media being able to hear it & pass comment. Not directly broadcast.
Each ref makes blunder every game. Webb himself is a very chaotic ref so i can see the current situation of PGMOL.
None of this benefits the fans, who are all experiencing the negative repercussions of various aspects of football. Both players and managers, alongside the fans, express their dissatisfaction with the implementation of VAR and the state of refereeing. They are not pleased with the direction the sport is taking, yet repeatedly, we are informed that these changes are permanent. It is evident that politics is exploiting the sport of football.
He really loves airtime doesn’t he…
You think he called up the sky sports executive an says he want to get interviewed
@@joashwalters2777yeah probably he loves himself
I’m 69, at present these are the worst referees I’ve ever seen in both the premiership and the championship. They know the rules but they don’t know the game! VAR has completely ruined the game as a spectacle, mistakes happened before VAR and they still happen with VAR! Most of the decisions taken during a game will be opinions, VAR will never change that!
Bad refree descisions incoming in this game week lol😂😂
So he brings in the technical area surrounding rule yet Jason Tindall continues to be in there and around it barking orders.
The first 2 weeks of the season this was a rule and some assistants were getting cautioned. Now they aren’t!!! PGMOL bring in rules yet stop enforcing it a few weeks later.
Gone so bad with the ex pros they’ve had to get Dave on to read the script lmao
Refereeing is a tough job people don’t understand that mistakes will happen just like a player will make a mistake like missing a penalty
Get ready for some more referee mistakes this weekend.
Seen the city match? 😂
Of course they get the robot Dave Jones to do this interview, make it as easy as possible for Howard Webb
Howard looking like a bond villian on the thumbnail
If I was there I would ask him can I see your Man Utd shirt please
Pity a question of bringing in officials from outside the country isn't asked. Seems like a simple fix to bring up standards.
The first step to solving a problem is to acknowledge that there is one... And HW has just shown us that VAR won't be getting better any time soon. It hasn't even been improving, as he said, and the technology doesn't need to improve - the implementation does!
I honestly don't know how the can get it so wrong. As i see it, these are THE KEY PROBLEMS:
- Why does it have to be 'Clear and Obvious'? That makes it even more subjective than just asking 'What is the right decision'.
- The referee needs help, not to be told what to do. It's inevitable things are missed/misjudged, so just let the referee know that might be the case, show them the replays and then let them decide. Only they know why they've not given that particular decision so let them overturn/stick-with their decision once they've seen it back.
- Then why make them go over to the monitor if you're just going to listen to the VAR recommendation? It's just a token gesture which takes up even more time after its already been looked at 10 times. It would be quicker to just send them over to the monitor immediately if it might be an error.
It's basically been massively over-complicated.
THE SOLUTION:
Just show the referee replays where they might've made an error and let them make the final call. It's really simple!!!!!
VAR is a mess referies training to problemsolve is abysmal
There has been zero improvement of the officiating in England under Webb. The FA needs to take some accountability and find someone that can do the job. It’s clear the officials are high on power and demand the utmost respect from the players while showing zero respect to the players and the game. How many FIFA tournaments need to go by without English officials before they any accountability for their own inaction on improvement.
Howard Webb has free fuel for life
Refs are under a microscope as it is, so why heap (and push) added pressure with the diversity aspect of the role?
I'm sure these new appointees just want to go out there, do a good job, and go home. So why press the issue of diversity ON TOP of all the other stresses? Just let refs be faceless - dont draw attention to them and focus on raising the standards, rather than piling on the pressure.
All talk no real action. That's Howard Webb for you.
Decisions about to get worse lol
This man is a major part of the issue and because of the rise of the podcasts there are so many that are desperate for content that he has no problem getting air time. Master manipulator who is completely directing the agenda and being given maximum airtime to do it. Where are the interviewers with backbone, research and knowledge to challenge the spin he constantly puts out. Where are the investigative journalists to dig into what's really going on.
Referees, certain use of VAR, ever changing rules and constant re-refereeing is really ruining the game. Keep it simple. It's the beautiful game.
Not changing quick enough really though is it,🤷♂️, there needs to be a standered that these refs have to offiate by, if this isnt met or a ref drops below this then there should be sanctions, pay deduction teams that they officiate should all be effected
Howard Webb is United biggest fan
Webb still continuing his PR tour for Sky and the FA. Pointless waste of 20 mins. The fans know better.
Not watching anything with that Dave on
Refereeing in england was a joke still is especially with one of the worst in charge of refeerees
PGMOL are pretty much the Tories at this point
Automatic offside system and hire the best refs
Hire the best refs from where? You can't just pull them out of thin air
Another PR practice once again. It is about time match officials take accountability for the product they are presenting to the game. Long way ahead of us as the fans.
What is changing for refs? Absolutely nothing
First and foremost get this and all refs out of the spotlight, we don't want to hear from them, just do your job
Been worse since this header has came in
Sky are not an appropriate group to interview this guy.
Enough with this ref PR
Webb never had much game understanding.
wow see how much the PL has spent on there new premises for VAR at stockley park. separate facility opposite road of the PL studios where they had 1 or 2 rooms- yes for anyone dosent know this is filmed in the new spa facilities where people make wrong decisions week in week out probably because they have cucumber on there eyes whilst sitting in a hot tub.
ManUnited legend.
What a complete softball joke of a PR interview. Obviously a direct result of what happened in Turkey. Joke
Webb must resign.
They’ll be a Chinese one soon no doubt🤔
pgmol, please think more about the game and less about referees. with great game to watch the respect for the ref will follow, not the other way around.
Var ruining the game. Like the nfl now stop and start
All by design
We put this incompetent in charge of the refs and then wonder why the standards have dropped
Anyone who saw his performance in the wc 2010 final would know he shouldnt be allowed within a 100 yards of a game
This is embarrassing.
rob jones = lololol
Bollockhead
He was the last top ref in our game to ref a world cup and champions league finals. The standards have dropped since those days.
Cringe PR interview teach your refs to do their job properly
Token referees
Good one Webb
Does Howard want to come on and discuss why as has been publicly admitted, Mikel Arteta has been specifically targeted for saying and doing the same things as other managers?
He hasn't been specifically targeted, stop waffling
Cheap PR. We dont care. Youre not famous. The less we hear and know about you the better.
Joke
No fan would care if they had a dog, microwave or banana officiating a game as long as they do a decent job. What's the point in making a fuss over black and female?
But can he explain the Wolves and Arsenal agenda over the past 2 seasons and what proof he has that this isn’t the case?…
… nah thought not.
Honestly it’s another useless video with Howard Webb.
