Glad to see you back man great vid it's crazy that your first video back is about slingshots been really getting into slingshotting lately so thanks for all the info take care and god bless.
@SurvivoTek a small world indeed man I've been using a custom one from tm hunt custom knives but I'm very interested in the Seljan you were shooting at the end of the vid so I will probably look in to that at some point.👍
With 8 mm steel I prefer 0,55 mm purple band cut out of gymnastic bands, after spending hundreds of Euros for special slingshot bands. Only in winter time I use sometimes "anti-cold bands" but only when hunting fir cones in the woods. I am into slingshots around 50 years now. So many bands to try in this time, and so many money to spend on these. We were lucky, when theraband gold came out and that was all we need, when going out and hunt. So the bands I use now are about 6 Euros for 3 meters ... that is a good price here. A slingshot seller is asking Euro 18 for 2 meters of the same band. So go out, try some cheap gymnastic bands...maybe you have fun with testing and save money!
@@dennismccolley1380 Oh, I like my slings. And when all these new bands came out ... as a "wonder-band", best of best ... I had to try them. Some did not perform as good as the good old theraband gold...some where better for sure. But after all these bands (and all the money spent) I found "my band". It is lasting long...and I know no other band with this extensibility. It is not as fast as some others, but I am used to it now. It is good enough to hunt can´s 30 meters away. Consistancy is key - so if you find a band you like - stick to it and do not change too much. Everyone can change band characteristic by changing length, with and taper ... spending so much money is unnecessary for sure. But if there are buyers, the market will serve them. And I was in the experimental phase - now I am shooting a cheap, but good band. I spend a lot of money, but found what supports my shooting style. And in my case...it is not a special band...
With decent bands tuned up you should be seeing at least 250fps using 8mm steel when you start going really powerful and max the bands out you get a lot less shots per band great video bro keep up the slingshot shooting
Enjoyed your vid and welcome to the addiction, it only gets worse. For a slingshot to be such a simple seeming piece of kit it sure gets complicated fast. Next experiment might be tapers. Not sure but taper might be a bigger factor on speed than thickness, depending on ammo weight of course. Some of this new latex loves to be stretched, I am currently shooting sniper sling yellow and I know it blows right on by 500%, simple shot black will too. Anyway good luck in your journey and I am looking forward to future videos.
I just acquired a variety of different thickness bandsets and I have access to all different sized steel ball bearings due to being a mechanic and I've been enjoying 5.56 steel balls with light bandsets pulling full butterfly. I'm not sure of the thickness bands at the moment, I'll mic em when I get to the shop
If you trim 1/4-1/2 inch off the two legs on one side and drill a hole in the bottom of your catch you can have an auto collection system. Use a coat hanger to hang a coffee can or soup can under the hole. Similar to a grease catch under a bbq grill…. Your welcome.
Try changing taper widths. I took some 1mm latex and they were tapered 24 to 12, and I had a new slingshot; pocket sized; so I cut one band down the middle which made for pretty thin bands, but they shoot really fast with 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch steel. So not only does thickness matter, and taper, but also band width. Please do a video if you could. I subscribed and liked :)... Take care!!!!!
Off subject but it looks like you live in a awesome area , I am from Michigan so I see corn and woods don’t get me wrong I absolutely love the woods but I would like to experience other terrain and Chase new game.
@SurvivoTek I'm jelly I sold my bus cause it was impractical lol had a sweet 4runner but yeah thats all done now I'm strongly considering a van build but I want to be able to lift it!!(=
Hi my name is Robert Bussiere I live in Ontoagon MI, You got lucky to get the material to build that catch box for 108.00! For me to build the same catch box, It would cost me 8.00 for 1 2x4 x 5=40.00, 1 sheet of plywood would cost me 179.98 x2 = 359.96, 2 pieces of dowelling 8.00 each x 2 = 16.00 for me to build the same catch box it will cost me 415.96
Every hand is a bit different, but I've found the Simple Shot Sparrow to be the most comfortable to hold for my hands and the Seljan Cleaver Pro to be the most consistent and accurate. But you also wouldn't go wrong with the Simple Shot Torque or the Scout XT. It all comes down to budget and if you shoot OTT or TTF.
Slingshot bands in the modern era are often cut at taper and in millimeters. So it should read 20mm at the fork; 14mm at pouch; 270mm long. The thickness of the band is .60 of a millimeter thick.
Good job, you gave a good head start in the art of slingshot shooting. Famous quote from Davy Crockett, Be sure to aim and aim to be sure. 🎯

It feels great to be back! Small world! Slingshots are so.much fun! What is your go to frame?

@@oldworldmind Oh yeah, so far, the Seljin Cleaver is surprisingly accurate and comfortable. It was designed super well!

Thanks for sharing! Man, that would be awesome to test out especially against "slingshot bands" that are being marketed.
One things for sure you like spending money

Can't wait until you start tapering your bands with those graphs . Definitely looking forward to the results
This must have taken ages.
Your ammo to band thickness comparison is definitely along the right lines.

Thank you! Yeah, tapers would have a lot of affect, the rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper and deeper. Haha!
Wow very in-depth!
Thank you! I went a little crazy with this one, but I still have more questions!! Haha!

can you tell me what these measures mean, what is measured with them 20/14/270 0.60

Bruh. The humpback….. Where the hell is it?
Is it not easier to shoot various bands through a chronograph you're trolling us . 😅
Without a chronograph, it’s just a video of this guy talking.
