    By far the most well rounded review for this laptop on YT covering almost all perspectives. No marketing gimmicks. Pure facts and relevant usage scenarios. This model pretty much ticks all my boxes but I'd probably wait until the AMD model releases as its likely to offer better battery life; 4hrs on this intel model during normal usage is a bit disappointing - perhaps due to less power efficiency of 13th gen intel processors.

Im using the auto setting as well. Im sure with a few more tweaks I could get more! Im running the 13900H and 4070 with 16GB and 1TB ssd.

    Thanks for confirming my decision. I went for the i7 13700h + rtx 4060 instead of the i9 + 4070 because I reasoned that the performance gain wasn't justified. 4070 on average performs at best 20fps higher and an i9 basically is an i7 with a higher clock speed, something you can forgive in a gaming laptop that will use turbo frequency anyway.

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not even 20fps trust me. We are taking 10% boost on a 4060->4070 max. So on 60fps gaming we’re looking at 5 fps for $200

    • @abhishekshah11
      @abhishekshah11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TechGuyBeau Yeah it's kind of ridiculous what Nvidia has been doing. I refuse to play by their rules and pay so much money for them to remove an artificial limit. Given that most buyers would be buying this for work, a 4060 would do the job just fine. For gaming I think 60fps is a decent frame rate but I must admit, playing competitive games on my desktop at 200fps has kind of spoiled me and makes me hyper aware of my fps 😅

    Plz do reply

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I’m a little confused by this.
      So you have 8gb of soldered memory. Then an open slot?
      You can add any supported amount of ram to the sodimm slot. For example 8 soldered + 16gb ram kit = 24gb. Or 8gb + 32gb kit = 40 total.
      The first 8+8 will run dual channel. The rest not(but that’s okay.
      Ram will always default to the SLOWEST option. So if your soldered ram is 4800mhz and you add a 5600mhz kit, then both will run at 4800mhz.

    Got the model with the 3.2k screen and 4070, not super happy with the cooling with the fans cycling on/off on basic desktop tasks. I wanted higher color fidelity on the display but wouldn't recommend it for gaming due to the performance hit, it likely contributes to the fan cycling. It is a beautiful display though
    Added 32gb of ram, dual channel makes a difference. Quite a noisy laptop when running hard but you can use balanced, would avoid the 4070 given the price diff.
    Static power draw is 18-25w on battery with debloated win11, about the same on ubuntu, so battery life is closer to 4h when coding/doing web tasks. Paid 2k though not the 1.1 mentioned in the video

      @@TechGuyBeau in balanced (without extensively reducing the CPU power allowed in windows) it still cycles a lot on my desk running just Firefox and vscode unfortunately. Maybe better with the more efficient AMD CPU? Ambients are 27/28
      I've gotten it now acceptable in terms of cycling where it only turns on every 20-30 mins by setting max CPU speed in windows to 50% in quiet mode. I use balanced for light games, noise wise it's fine but it took a lot of tweaking to get rid of the small stutters (that the different boost power limits introduce maybe?) in balanced for Minecraft & Battlefield 4

      @@TechGuyBeau thanks for the quick reply, I'd rather just stick to a 1 sidded ssd to be safe. Do you have any recommendations?

      @@IBadlyNamed you gonna keep running the included 980 pro as the operating system and just add a second?
      if so are you using it for games or other tasks

      @@TechGuyBeau yeah I'll continue using the 1tb boot drive, but I'd like an extra 2tb or so since games are so big these days. I also do 3d work with Maya and substance.
      And Australia.

    So like the ram is upgradable even if it has a 16 GB soldered ram

      Yes. It has one 16gb set on board, and a free slot

    this or legion pro 5i gen 8?

    • @TechGuyBeau

      Probably this. The legion 5i pro goes to a 4070, so does this. So really this is just more premium all around

    I watched this video for teardown and motherboard view. Believe it or not there are people who talk and talk and show nothing related to cooling and motherboard.

    Love your videos mate, but do us/yourself favour and do not make reviews of laptops with single channel memory configuration. It would be perfect if you did one more round of testing with 32gb just to get idea how much improvement people can get with ~100$ more investment...and improvement is really impressive as for gamers, for content creation too. One more thing, if you are not certain for something (eg. Bottom panel material, track pad material, which port is tunderbolt etc) better skip that line in review.

      Already have ram in the laptop no worries for my future vids

    Yeah but Lenovo does 1 thing right and 3 wrong. It is an incredible machine with (again) 1 soldered ram. If you move to thinkbook 16p gen4 you FINALLY GET 2 RAM SLOTS!!!! but then th second SSD is 2245 instead 2280 size....😂😂😂😂 I mean they are f***ing joking with us. They are ridiculously embarassing.

    Soldered RAM = instant fail, regardless of everything else
