Hey Jarrod, in the cooling test why are you testing system/fan noise instead of temps? I'd like to know which laptop maintains the lowest temps when stressed. Noise may not matter as much for a lot of people.

He really is great. I found the channels 3 summers ago. And even though I got a laptop fall of 21 and a desktop this year. I still watch cuz he gives great information and that voice finally had me understanding why people like ASMR 😅
The rtx 40 series might be disappointing for a lot of people but it's the best upgrade for me who comes from the gtx 16 series. Maintaining the low wattage but improve by a lot in term of performance.
I agree fully, even at full settings on any modern game, my 4060 rarely touches 65 C temps. While my earlier 3060 and even earlier 1080 were always running near or over 75 C, fans going crazy, while gaming with moderate settings, constantly worrying me about heat damage to my laptop. With DLSS 4060 easily outperforms 3060 by 2 to 3 Times, again all for temps in 60s. In my opinion Nvidia purposefully underpowered 4050, 4060 and 4070 well knowing that they will be used primarily in laptops or undercooled rigs, where Thermals are important. I know people like earlier GPUs for their high-end power, but I for one, never wanna go back to a 'Laptop' GPU that goes crazy hot, just for a slight increase in performance.
Well i am going from gtx 970m (80 watts tdp) to 4060, so yeah, it does make a lot of sense
true, also dlss 3.0 is the only real upgrade of 40 series

I was in the same decision boat, and ended up with the 7i for what it's worth. Like Jarrod said here with AMD vs Intel chip, they seem to be six one way half dozen the other, unless you have a very specific purpose in mind where one does a little better than the other.
My deciding factor was not Intel over AMD as much as choosing the 4070 over the 4060. I hold onto my laptops for a long time and the market's already up to 4090, so the 4070 will future-proof me a little longer than the 4060.

I have watched your review of the older MSI Prestige 15 and I have plans to get this particular laptop in the future as it meets almost all of my needs such as being lightweight, powerful and has a long lasting battery life.

Love seeing XMG keeping it up. After seeing their Neo 15 I made my GP66 water cooled a few weeks after and it has been amazing. I wonder how much they're holding back by using only a 120mm rad and using a smaller water pipe now but Im sure they have their reasons. Going to be adding water cooling to my Scar 16 in the next few weeks, silent gaming on the go is just not something Ill ever leave on the table again.

Excellent as always Jarrod, but dont forget we can´t upgrade for some months to come (maybe one year for warranty issues), now we need the more from the original buying choice, as the SSD: while your best choice is great, maybe it has a 512 GB SSD meaning: it would be nice you assign some kpi's ... for example ... from 0 to 5 for each component, then you give an indicator of 0 to those 512 Gb SSD (that could be upgraded later but not for some time) and then the upgrading indicator could be 5, make a formula for each laptop an voila... btw nice tuxedo! Have to get me one!

Just wondering about the lenovo loq 15 and helios neo 16, here in my place the loq with r7 7840hs/4050/512gb/8gb cost around 1005usd and the helios neo i7 13700hx/4060/1tb/16gb cost around 1150 usd, which will be the wiser choice?

Great video and very informative. Definitely learned alot. My only critique would be to up the amount for Mid Range gaming laptop. Maybe 1500-2500? The mid range in the video seemed more like upper budget laptop. It went from 1k under to almost 4k with nothing in between.

I got the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with a 13700HX, RTX 4070 8GB, 32GB RAM, 1TB storage and 240Hz screen thanks to some of your recommendations. I got for a 720 USD discount no less at MicroCenter. Got to say it is the best gaming laptop i owned so far and it plays games such as Warhammer III Total War at 1440p, Ultra settings, 60-90FPS! For 1300 USD I couldn't ask for a better gaming laptop.

@@nine_moons3073 Surprisingly I was in Denver CO for Supercomputing 23 and thought to look up if there was a MicroCenter in the area. Sure enough it was a 15min ride from the hotel.
Although when I looked up hardware prices in my neighboring country (Hungary) the prices were quite close...
Discounts were considerably higher, like this laptop. It costs about 500 USD more, when its on discount XD
I bought the 13900HX version for my Legion Pro 5i for 1399 USD in B&H.. Best decision ever!

@@redds7 I ended up getting the model with the 4050 and it can handle everything I throw at it. I mainly bought it to handle CAD programs for my mechanical engineering program, but who said I cant have a bit of fun in between classes? 🤣

at 1:27, there is a mistake when comparing the 4060 and 3060. Look at the text. It says that the 4060 is slower by 12.57%
There is no way that a 4060m is slower than the 3060m, even on pure raster. It's probably a typo.

I like quieter keys, because I work a lot at night. So "mushy" quiet keys are my favorite. Asus and Acer are my preferred to Lenovo.

I have to agree on few of the categories, sounds especially, Asus ROG Strix G18 does perform extremely well sound wise and has integrated dolby atmos system and the sound doesn't suffer that much from turbo mode. Furthermore, it does perform extremely well in high demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield.
Are you gonna test the Legion Go at some point?

Nice breakdown. I recently purchased a lenovo legion slim 7 with 4060, 32gb/1tb. I wasn't looking for a pure gaming laptop, but more of an all-rounder that could easily handle mid-level gaming with portability. Got a nice deal during their black friday sales. Coming from a macbook air, I fell in love with the slim form factor and industry leading battery life of macbooks. For the more resource intensive games, I have a ps5 and plan to build a desktop in the next 6 months. Nice work breaking down so many categories.
Same pinch. Writing this on my slim 7 1tb32gig too. What= an upgrade from my pesky macbook pro m1 13 which had a cracked screen.

Bought the Victus r0075TX variant recently, it comes with 13500HX, RTX 4050 120W, a 300nits 165hz 100% Srgb screen,16gb DDR5, and 512 GB NVME. This model has 2 NVME slots and the wifi works fine, I'm getting over 600mbps which is the best my router can throw. So most probably HP listened to your review.
You can't really have 5 axis IBIS and ND filters at the same tine. The ZV1 has electronic image stabilization only so they could do the ND.
The first and only camera to do IBIS and internal ND at the same time is the new tech in the brand new Sony Burano. Hopefully that tech will trickle down eventually!
considering about scar 16 in two options:
1) 4080 but ips - 3k usd
2) 4090 miniled - 3800 usd
can't solve what to buy not to so as not to regret later(in case of option 1)

Hello! I am on a budget and my options are between a loq 15aph8 with a 7 7840hs rtx4060 500gb SSD or a loq i713650hx rtx4060 1tb SSD. Wich one should i get? Same price on them
I think the best gaming laptop (yes an actual laptop) without any budget constraint is the Asus Zephyrus G14 with the 7940HS (undervolting supported) and the RTX 4080. It's the only laptop option with a pheonix point APU with an RTX 4080. Fantastic for both battery life as well as performance.
If budget is a constraint, then it would be the Lenovo LOQ 7840HS and 4060.
I wish there would've been an M16 with 7940HS, 4080/4090 and a numeric keypad too. I need that for productivity and all that in a 2kg package would be insane.

I picked up the 4060 model a couple weeks ago. Thinking of returning and upgrading it to 4080 tbh
7940HS and 4080 in a slim, 14 inch body with horrid cooling even by laptop standards is the best way to get 3060 performance while paying 5x the money.

I'm heartbroken since I got my LOQ 15.6 2 days ago and after 10 minutes of using it, the display started showing horizontal white strips and after troubleshoot i concluded that the display is defective. I did research and lenovo forums are full with people rioting about the same stuff.

Yay, the laptop I got was the amd chip with the 4060. It is SO good, I have it hooked up to my 27 inch monitor 1440p, playing baldurs gate 3 on max, hitting between 120 and 140 fps

So I have a ROG strix 17 i9-12900h and a 3070ti 360hz panel. Should I sell it and upgrade or keep it. If I keep it about how long would it be good enough

I don't think having a (big) external water cooling unit counts for best cooling. Would be better if we rate this criteria based on the laptop alone
Yeah I didn't bother going that route because I don't know how to do it fairly. All the laptops we get have different specs, so you can't just arbitrarily compare temperature readouts, it's a bit meaningless. Ultimately what people care about is is it quite and not hot to touch.

Best gaming laptop speaker - Zephyrus M16 is a solid contender. It blows me away every time I listen to music on it. Amazing clarity, volume, and decent base. I compared it to macbook pro 16 speakers and I actually like M16 more especially when you enable dolby access options.
Asus in general is the first company to start listening to feedback and caring about sound. It’s still not macbook level, but miles ahead other gaming laptops. They’ve been killing it all around
I agreed that Lenono LOQ 15 with 3050 is the best budget in terms of perf/price ratio after a few days of research. It is now as low as 579 at the official site. So I got one!

I'm very happy with the Asus Rog Zephyrus M16 that I picked up at Best Buy for $450 off during Black Friday. I only play COD MW3 on it and I'm getting around 160 fps at 1440.

I just picked up the ROG Strix 18 from best buy yesterday after it went on sale for $2000. Unfortunately the Lenovo Legion Pro i7 w/ a 4080 is sold out even on the manufacturer website but they both seem pretty solid from everything I've seen
Yo, I just sent back my Rog Strix 16 (2023) because it has ZERO additional SSD expansion, 2 effing USB slots, 2 ram slots, 1 headphone jack, and no mic (need converter). I had a MSI GT73VR 7rf back in 2015 and that computer destroys this computer in terms of hardware slots. I was wondering if you have the same slots on the 18.
@@ItIsYouAreNotYour it has a 2nd M.2 PCIe storage slot but the rest remains true I believe. USB-C is the future so they include 2. I definitely bought a USB 3.0 HUB but I don’t require a 3.5mm or other ports that do you so to each their own.
@@lComedianl Thanks, I'm mostly interested in the extra M.2. I bought the USB extender and a headphone converter. I'll look into it a bit more, because I DO really like the computer. I use a wireless mouse USB and a USB charger. It sucks that it's on the right side as well since it gets in the way.
@@ItIsYouAreNotYour yeah, it is kind of a problem but it also has some of the best cooing alongside the Legion i7. Happens when you have a massive vent as the back lol
@@lComedianl Oh does it? It doesn't do it AS much anymore, but sometimes my keyboard runs so effing hot that I think it could cook an egg. But it's not much of an issue with the tips of your fingers haha.
