Also, you must take the oil measurement with the engine off and after it sits for about 10 min. I did not know that and wound up overfilling. Had to buy a fluid evacuator to correct the issue.

This model requires 8 qts motor oil. Be sure purchase 8 qts.
If I was brave enough to car the oil myself, this video for a fact would be the video I’d watch because it was perfect direct and an easy tutorial to follow.

Please use a Mann filter , they are made in Germany and designed to be in your car. Great job , you helped me do my first oil change.
Much, much easier to use a siphon device out of the dipstick tube..Been doing it for years and worked great ! No need to get under car and no mess !!
yeap got one, did a video trying it out on the audi, much easier.
Benjamin then the sediment does not drain from the pan and your filter gets plugged faster, On the ML350 you do not need to get very far under the car and it is much better to drain through the plug. Siphoning is the lazy method.
My dealership said a service A (oil change) would be 458.00 minimum... Yeah, I think not. Doing my own thanks for pricing your selves out MB.
Mb quoted me $450 in ONLY labor to change both my batteries ( main battery under the passenger seat & small auxiliary battery in the rear trunk passenger side) i took my 2012 ml350 4matic gas motor to the best and only mercedes exclusove mechanic in the area and i got to watch the whole process too. It took 30 MINUTES AND I GOT CHARGED ONLY $40 BUCKS. YES $40.MERCEDES DEALERSHIPS ARE THE BIGGEST RIPOFFS IN THE GAME FOR VEHICLE SERVICE!!!!
Oh and my oil and filter change? $100 parts (8quarts of full synthetic 0-40 weight and the filter $18 bucks. Labor $20bucks. Total of $140 compared to MB quote of $450 for the same exact thing REDICULOUS!!!!!
And btw my mechanic is AMAZING. Lets you watch, so he can teach you and learn in case youre interestested and it gives you the comfort that hes not pulling any of the classic extra money grabs from poor oblivious customers

yeah if you have a top mount oil filter this makes doing oil changes 10x easier.

If i remember correctly it is 141 inch pounds which works out to 12 foot pounds. I normally finger tight and then snug it up with a socket .
I changed oil but had no new oil filter at the time. Can I remove the old oil filter now and replace it with a new one? Thank you.
The good thing is that the filter is on top so it should not be a problem.

Does more frequent oil change (like every 5-7k) really help the engine last longer?
I know some people say no but i feel it does especially if you have any upgrades to your car. I feel its more about flushing any contaminates in the oil than the oil it self breaking down.

It says 10,000 or 1 year but I drive around 6000 and sometimes even less. Can I wait until I complete 10,000 miles? What is the hurry with these modern engines?
It might be possible but i like to play it safe as i am hard on my cars so i normally do it early. I think its that even over time moisture can get in and casue the oil break down so thats why they say 10k or 1 year. So small cost of changing the oil more often will help to stop something major going wrong with the engine i think its worth it.
Why did u use 0w40 instead of using 5w40 ? Reason ?
The 0w40 is a bit thiner and in my mind in the colder weather it helps it to flow faster on start up. I'm not a pro so take what i say with a gain of salt. But i run it in my audi and 350z with no issue.

I have to say yes we have had it for 6 or 7 years with no issues and we bought it used with 32k on it and we have a little over 60k on it now. But these cars love oil so regular oil changes are a must. I do oil changes at the half way mark of what is recommended by the dealer and I only use Mobil one full synthetic oil.

Could anyone help me I changed the oil and now its leaking when I turn on the car. Its leaking from the perimeter of the oil pan. Thanks
was it doing this before you changed the oil? sounds like the seal is bad.
Clean everything and make sure its the seal. I changed mine but had to take out the sway bar to move out the oil pan. Dealer wanted $400 but I think the parts they quote me was $179 but i think that included a new oil pan.
How much oil should I put in?
I do 7 3/4 quarts and then check after i run the car and let it sit for a hour.
Of course its 10mm bolts on the belly pan!
yeah and thats the socket or wrench that goes missing.
I literally have about 20 10mm sockets floating around and I don't know where any of them are...
What yr is this model? I have a 2012. Does it require the same oil and amount?
this is a 2010 ml350 not sure about the 2012 you will need to check your owners manual or do a search online.
