Yep, since covid times, oxtail has been ridiculously expensive. When I was a kid, we had oxtail soup in the winter because it was a throwaway cut. Now, it's too expensive to buy regularly thanks to fine dining chefs putting it on their menus.
Lmao it touches the floor, maybe it will go to the dog🤣🤣. As if it is poison now. Good bbq could be thrown in the yard, and it gets cleaned off and eaten. The dog gets dog food, lol.
Ox tails used to be thrown away by butchers. My dad told me stories about how they would go get cases of them for free when he was a little boy. They have been a soul food staple forever, now more mainstream. So, yeah, the price for them is ridiculous now. Might as well buy ribeyes.
Maybe he's just not old enough, but if you go back far enough cuts like oxtails and yes even chicken wings were tossed to the side and sold as lesser meat. Then popularity created a demand and the prices of the supplies increased... (Hits the customers pockets 😢)

🙋🏻♂️ Hey Pitmasterx‼️ with my best wishes for happy Easter 🐰 I tell you a little secret for oxtail ... a little pinch of lemon zest and a little pinch of cacao 🤤🤤🤤🍷
Oxtails are about $8/lb at the butcher shop. I like that method of cooking oxtail. I usually braise mine for 3 hour at 300°F very tender over brown rice & veggies 🔥👀💥😎
Most stupid comment ever..no u dont have to braise them. Wrap them 1by1 and keep going. If u braise the collagen goes out to the gravy, if u wrap them 1by1 the collagen stays within in the meat, makes it super tender and max flavour.
I love that u dont braise them, many do that mistakes for smoking oxtail. I wrap them 1by1, that way the collagen stays with the meat. Nothing wrong with brasing, just not bbq. Brasing the collagen spread out to the gravy, with some mash potatoes or Jamaican rice its perfect 😋 But it we are smoking bbq, 1by1 wrapped, will give ypu foodgasm by eating it alone 😋😋😋 super tender and max flavour to each tail piece
What’s he’s saying ox-tails already is costing more per pound than T-bone, NY strip and most high end steaks! Growing up ox-tails was the cheapest thing off the cow! Believe me they’re not cheap at all!
Sadly, I LOVE BBQ, but it's really driven up prices for what used to be super cheap cuts. Things like brisket, ribs, cheeks, and oxtail used to be throw-away cuts that stores or butchers were happy to sell for next to nothing... now, we all how delicious these cuts can be when you take the time to cook them low and slow.
I do often try out your creations or use it for inspiration. This one is not gonna happen. Sweet bbq sauge on oxtail?? It's like you say, nothing is going to waste, its for the dog ;). Sorry to be so negative mate but some times it's good and some times its for the d...
What ??? When ??? I’m right now with a 93 years old white lady raised in the country in Texas …Her response to this video was ..We never would eat those ….Daddy threw that away …..
Just what we needed...Pitmaster X making oxtails even more expensive than they are
In the US, oxtails are as expensive as brisket. Been that way for a few years, they got popular, then expensive.
See also: short ribs. You can still get deals on anus, but it usually turns out shitty.

@driftspecs13 Yes, like chicken wings used to be .
It’s more expensive. It’s $9 per pound, same as choice rib eye. Since you’re not paying for bone weight on the rib eye, ox tail is way more expensive.
Looking good brother!
What's up UNC 😎 looka here lol
We have a waiting list for ox tails. Need cattle with about 10 tails each to keep up with the demand.
Smoked oxen tail stew would be great for dinner. Making this on Sunday for lunch. Looks awesome!!!!
Oxtail is a South African favorite 😊
Oxtails are awesome 😋
Love your videos! That oxtail came out amazing those cuts are huge! Yesss oxtail is..or was the best kept secret 🤫 not anymore 😂 …great video 👍🏾
Excellent video!
Remember when nobody wanted oxtail and it was one of the cheapest "cuts" of meat?
This recipe is also great to use the meat for tacos.
My mom used to make them all the time because of this, now everyone buys them and they’re more expensive

Bark then wrap, same as brisket or ribs, or finish in a braise.
I braise😍
I put mine directly in the pressure cooker after I smoke them at 275F for 2-3 hours

You have to braise the oxtails in beef broth until they are fork-tender,
Not true. That’s one way to do them or you can just smoke them for a long time

Hey PitmasterX, have you done anything with beef cheeks? That's the next logical thing after oxtails.
I never smoked oxtails thos long as I always had to braised them afterwards.
The price of Oxtails have been on the rise in price in the past 5 years.Haven't just started!

I wouldn't bother for that price since you can get chuck roast or even brisket for cheaper
