It helps to put a blob of sealant where the gasket meets the curved parts of the cylinder head as it can leak from them areas. Them cam followers look fine as long as there ain't no scoring marks 👍
    Good job lads

Also the pcv valve is part of the rocker cover and if it fails it can cause a vacuum leak/ boost issue

I believe im having the same issue with my 2012 jcw. It has a boost leak due to cracked valve cover. Before you replaced the valve would the idle kind of blip randomly?

How does it not leak without a gasket? It had one on the original cover.

On my N14 (R55 S), I'm gonna try an aftermarket cast ALUMINUM valve cover (powder coated color choices-silver, red, black, blue) for the same price as an after-market plastic version. Will avoid plastic cover warping issue, I would imagine.
Will still use hi-temp RTV gasket sealant in the 2 or three halfmoon/corners of the gasket areas of the ALU valve cover, prior to placing it on the motor.
Will also follow the standard torque and order guidance (for the 13 bolts; 7.5 ft-lbs).
The garage did a shitty job on the last valve cover replacement. I will do it right and by myself. Current plastic version leaks, smells...a mess. I think they did not use any RTV...frigging idiots.
