I removed my cover and cleaned the outlet which goes to the throttle body with Carb cleaner, after fully drying , I installed it again and it works beautifully, no more leaks. The valve gets clogged in the closed position, so as the blowby gases still need a way out, this happens thru your valve cover gasket creating that nasty oily perimeter. Try this, you have nothing to lose.
Beware mi amigo!! I bought two of the Chinese knockoff valve covers that did not work. Even the gaskets were crap. So, I learned a lesson. I bought the BWM valve cover and gasket for considerable more! Everything is fine now.
Hey, Love your videos. Very helpful but, you inadvertently caused this problem with passenger side pvc delete cap. You need to install a vacume/boost catch can from GTT. They explain why this is mandatory, and why the pvc delete causes so many issues. Just thought I'd pass this on.
Hey Jeff thanks for the reply man. To be honest this was an issue from day 1 ownership but I do see the error of my way in this regard. Ill be addressing this in a later video formally apologizing. Further more if you look closely in this video you can see there is now a small inline "catch can" in place where the deletes used to be.
Hi... your link goes to a general list of valve covers. Do you have a recent link to the model you used? Or, specific info to help identify it? Others have asked the same question, but i don't see any reply. BTW, thanks for the video.
Hi BimmerDude, the link for your valve cover just goes to an Ebay page showing multiple listings for mini cooper R56 valve covers. Prices are all over the place. None of them have the Mini emblem on them like yours. Can you post who the seller was of yours or another link to an updated auction for the one you got? If you can't find it, who was the manufacture of yours and what country was it made? I see some made in China and other countries and multiple different manufactures. Thanks for the help and great videos!
I have a question: I have a 2010 mini Cooper S clubman turbo. It has 140,487 miles on it currently & I am also currently & presently changing the oil & filter. The previous owner used 5W-30 & kept up with the maintenance regularly & on time. My question is, why are my tailpipes so black?
Bimmer Dude week or so. It was nice the pcv delete plug fit perfect as well. I check it after every drive no issues. Still have a leak from somewhere else. Looks like the oil filter housing. Little bit of coolant mixed in. So that is going to be a fun job.
My engine overheated and melted the valve cover slightly on the exhaust side as well as inside slightly but no plastic melted and dropped inside the engine. how hot do you think the head got? My plan right now is to have the head resurfaced and put all new valves, springs, retainers, guides, seats and seals in the head, replace oil pump, water pump, timing components and re assemble with new coils, plugs etc. I'm concerned that the extreme heat likely destroyed some sensors, possibly even the turbo. Let me know what you think if you don't mind.
Hey, have you had a chance to open the old valve cover to see what is failing inside and/or to see if there is any repair feasible? This being the most common fail on this engine, many of us would appreciate. BTW Great video.
Hey lil brother, Just a heads up.I truly enjoy your videos. Thank you for your time. I am not a social media guy, too intrusive. Just my opinion, too many people in need of validation. TH-cam is as far as I go. I have two questions for you. I do not see any links to your previous videos. Particularly, in this video, You make reference to an Oil Catch Can. What is its necessity or purpose and if feasible, difficulty in installation. also how do you know exactly, what engine type you have ? I have a 2014 mini cooper roadster S convertible. It only has 42,000 miles. I have a truck , motorcycle and car as well so my mini is a toy for me and stays in the garage. Unless I feel, it is a Mini Kinda day . again, thank you for your time. Hey @bimmerdude great video! Very helpful. Some small detailed things you can improve about RTV Silicone and Elastomer gaskets. Let me know if you want to have detailed information. Thumbs up! Your Elring Service Team !
yeah, i know that the oem gaskets suck and sometimes people dont put gasket maker/sealer on. what i do is a put gasket sealer all around the edge where it seals and then i put the gasket on after letting it sit for a couple hours. i put some on top of the gasket too. i half tighten the bolts and let it sit for a couple more hours then i torque them down. havent had a leak for 100'000km And I thrash the car like hell so it really shows
Hey there i have a 2010 mini cooper s was drving home today and the car lost power and coolant leaking and then there is oil everywhere on the valve cover gasket and a code p0012 and p0001 and then random muilt cylinder misfire when i open the coil pack there is ton of oil in cylinder 1 -2 -3 and number 4 is dry the car turn on but feel like dying and smoke coming out the front hood
Hi, my girlfriends mini is burning alot of oil, blue smoke and running really rough at idle. Thinking of replacing the valve cover. Thanks for the help!
Just realized that I’m losing oil via VCG, should I just do the whole kit or only gaskets if cover seems fine? Worried if could crack or warp more over time.
How come your value cover doesn't have a Value Crankcase Membrane Ventilation? I have a 2012 Mini Cooper S that needs a new cover. Does it matter if I order the same cover you have or should I order a valve cover that has the Value Crankcase Membrane Ventilation? Thank you!
It's like our cars are in sync with the maintenance issues. Recently got tuned and my valve cover gasket gave out. Replacing it as soon as the part comes in but how would I know if it's just my gasket or the entire valve cover that's bad? The oil seems to just seep out around where the gasket is when i push my car too much.
Daniel Caduff Lol ! Yea bro that valve cover is gone.. the valve cover is the MAIN PCV on this vehicle. It's seeing both increasing and decreasing crankcase pressure which is most likely why your noticing worse leaks when driving hard. :/
Daniel Caduff eh I thought the same thing ..unfortunately the cover was bad :/. Check the in my description there's a link to a aftermarket valve cover for neatly 1/3 the price of a new oem one. Hope that helps. GL
Hmm, I guess only time will tell. But definitely, I'll have your link to rely on if it turns out it is actually my valve cover. (this is me being hopeful that it's not LOL) Thank you!
